Competition is not the issue. It’s not that I don’t want competition. It’s that I don’t want to compete for gear. I want to compete on the WvW battlefield on an equal footing without worring about the fact that my gear puts me at a disadvantage. For me, I’d be fine if white gear was all we had. As long as we all had white gear equally.

I’d be fine with Anet adding tons of new gear progression for PvE players who need that sort of thing. As long as it doesn’t affect WvW.

Let me put it another way. A sizeable portion of the GW2 player population doesn’t care about gear because gear doesn’t equal competetion for us. Dead bodies on the WvW battlefield does. For us gear actually prevents fair competition.

So your communist/capitalist metaphor doesn’t work. At all.

Why do I fear power creep?

Fear is not really the issue. I"m a pure WvW player. I was told that Exotics were the BIS gear. I spent energy, resources, and time to get my gear the way I wanted – so that I could forget about gear and focus on WvW.

Now – out of the blue – I’m informed that exotics are not going to be BIS. There’s another kitten hurdle to get over before I can get back to just doing what I like to do.

The issue is not fear – it’s trust. Mine has been violated. How the hell do I know if Anet really means it this time when they say and this is the last hurdle. They fooled me once. Why should I believe them a second time?

It’s like Charlie Brown being told by Lucy to kick the football. I really won’t pull it away from you this time, Charlie Brown! No, wait, I was just kidding, sucker!

I ain’t falling for it again. I’m not Charlie Brown and I’m not kicking the kitten ball again.

The news about needing to go through the gearing process again has really discouraged me. I don’t want to think about gear. I want to enjoy WvW with a max-geared toon.

The news that my BIS gear will soon need to be improved has left me wondering if I can still get my money back for this game.

This thread is nothing compared with the 107 (and counting) page thread on the general forum. Much heat and very little light.

Outside bloggers and gaming sites are already starting to talk about how Anet has broken its word on its core design principle for this game.

I’ve been mmoing for over a decade and I can’t remember this many people getting this upset this quickly. Anet is really going to have a pr issue on their hands if they don’t respond quickly. The feeling of being the victim of a “bait and switch” has the potential to really sour people on the company for a long time to come.

Do you even have the facts? And fyi, ANets philosophy is that gear can be obtained by various means. So even if you just WvW you still get karma, you get badges. What’s the deal?

No, we don’t have all the facts. What we do have is an official Anet blog post which says that our exotics will no longer be best in slot. And the blog only lists pve dungeons as the way to get the new items. If there are other means to get the new gear, they aren’t mentioned.

That may be poor communication on Anet’s part. It certainly isn’t paranoia on ours.

If it is true that Ascended Gear can only be gained through pve, I will be very very disappointed. I’m a dedicated WvW player. I haven’t done any pve since I was around level 60. I have no desire to ever do pve again.

If the only way to gain the best gear for WvW is through pve, I will probably stop playing. And I would be so pissed at Anet for doing this, it would be a cold day in Hell before I’d ever buy another of their games.

Hopefully Ascendant gear will also be available through WvW play. I look forward to hearing more.
