Why Anet abandon content?

in Living World

I don’t understand this.

First they give us guild missions, and said: “we will add more missions and even more mission types”. I though this would be amazing! new missions from time to time? Always something to do with guild!
They added 2 new puzzles and a few bounty targets in the next patch then nothing for more then a year?

They give us fractals, and said: “this is perfect platform for us to add more fractals, tell more story etc” I though this is amazing! New dungeon every month or something?
And they give us 1 new fractal after a year ( and 2 as a bonus from LS)

They give us PvP tracks, and said: we will add more, PvE gets something PvP will get new track too with new PvE rewards!
No new track added.

They said: we will add more skills! (we even add skill points in chmp bags so you have skill points to spend on this new skills! ) I though that this will be more then amazing! New skill every month? New build? New fun.
They added 1 new healing skill…

This is sad

I think if you objectively analyze the release timeline you are talking about, the answer to your rant is actually there: it takes time to work on these changes and patches. I recall a developer mentioning that it takes about 6 months work of time to produce a new map. (This was in a discussion for more WvW maps.) As the history of these patches might suggest, the Arena Net team doesn’t necessarily have the capacity to release a huge slew of major changes every month. It’s not that they’re ignoring content or “abandoning” content as your post title suggests. It’s simply: it takes time.

Now, whether or not it’s taking “too much time” is open to debate. Personally, I think most players who have been playing this game since release share your feelings. (Myself included.) The game itself has become very stagnant, and it’s hard to stay involved and excited without regular updates as most of us have already finished the storyline and other major components of the game.

I’m happy that Arena Net has no monthly fee and that it continues to produce regular updates to the game, but I’m also not sure if the amount of content & updates being rolled out is enough to keep the GW2 community interested. I am, however, really happy to see new maps being added to the pve world.

Whatever the solution needs to be, I hope Arena Net decides to start upping its level on how much content gets released regularly. If the answer is that they need to hire more staff, I hope they do that. If they need more money so we can have an entirely new array of PvE worlds and even WvW maps, then sell us an expansion (like how GW1 worked).

Sincerely,

Suppressed While Commanding

in WvW

Waffler mentioned this already, but squad chat is extremely useful (and the Commander is never suppressed in squad chat).

Useful commands to know as a commander:

1. Anyone who types “/squadjoin COMMANDER NAME HERE” will join your squad.

2. “/squadinfo” will tell you who is in your squad and the number of supply they are holding, as well as give you the total # count for both supply & players in your squad.

3. Open the map (“m”) and if you alt click (or was it ctrl click..) parts of the map, you will have the option of setting Squad Defend, Squad Rally, and Squad Attack objectives that will be marked for all players in your squad. Useful icons to help assist pushes.

My biggest qualm about the /squad is that joining it means that your squad members cannot see the commander icons of other commanders…which can be problematic if you’re coordinating among multiple commanders. I really wish they would change that… HINT HINT, ANET, #WISHLIST.

To the DR & BP players:

I don’t follow the forums that often, so I guess I should have expected the thread to be more like troll wars. But I want to break off from the finger pointing, the blame, the whining, and all the nonsense for just a little bit here. Please indulge me.

I have been playing on Maguuma in WvW since the release of GW2. It’s the only gw2 world I’ve ever known, and I’m proud to see it rise to become a very active WvW community. (The first month or two of WvW, we were still really trying to find our ground in my opinion.) That being said, I think both of your worlds have really come far.

I think the play we saw from your worlds over the past weekend were absolutely epic. I believe few of us in Maguuma honestly expected the aggressive responses and plays that your worlds executed over the weekend. Bravo, truly.

But in terms of weekday play, we have seen very little activity from your worlds. Many of you have made posts—some clearly asking for harsh rebuttal—saying that we just like capping when you all go to sleep and that during your “prime” hours we can’t stand up against your might. But let’s be real here.

From this point on, if you advance any tier higher than us, you are going to be dealing with 24/7 populated WvW forces. The reason why we’ve been pushing aggressively up and down the past couple of tiers are because the other worlds we faced had even HIGHER numbers than we did at night time. (Yes, Maguuma is still a heavily North America populated server, despite us having awesome Aussies and a few Oceanic folk.)

We are your line in the sand right now. You go past us, you’re going to be dealing with worlds that have full WvW server queues not just on weekends, but during weekdays. Not just during the late afternoons or evenings, but throughout the night and mornings too.

That being said, Maguuma is so far from being high and mighty. We might boast about our triumphs (as the right of any victor), but I’m going to be honest here: we have struggled and got our kitten kicked more than a few times in the higher tiers, but it has made us stronger and better. We are more coordinated. We have recruited more forces. We might even be meaner now too.

As this week’s matchup is starting to draw to an end—-and I know chances are, we’re going to playing both of your worlds again in the next matchup—I just wanted to say that we were in your position once—many matchups ago. We adapted, as I know your worlds will too. I am expecting a kitten three-way starting on rematch Friday.

And one day, I expect your worlds to meet us in the top three tiers as well.

Cheers.

Sincerely,
Sinful Panda

ATTN: Maguuma Guild Leaders & Serious WvWers

in WvW

Posted by: AceOfEden.5197

AceOfEden.5197

This thread is following the example set by some of the other world threads with the purpose of more organized WvW play.
———————————————————————————————————————————————-

I am looking to get in touch with guild leaders and serious WvW players on Maguuma World with the intention of forming more organized WvW plays for our world.

If you are a guild leader of an active WvW guild on Maguuma, please message me with the size of active players in your guild & play usual play times. Thanks

If you’re not a guild leader but actively play WvW on Maguuma and want to get in on some organized play, feel free to message me with your usual WvW play times. (No reason to be excluded just because your guild doesn’t do organized WvW runs.)

Thanks!

WvW Skill points?

in WvW

Posted by: AceOfEden.5197

AceOfEden.5197

If you are referring to earning skillpoints by leveling, yes WvW is a great way to have fun, do something dynamic, while gaining experience constantly and leveling (thereby earning a skill point that way).

If you are talking about WvW being a good place to earn skillpoints through Skillpoint Challenges, then I have to disagree with you.

And here are the reasons why I disagree:

  1. There are only 3 to 4 Skillpoint Challenges per WvW map
  2. There are literally dozens of Skillpoint Challenges in the PVE maps (take a look at the cartographer’s map: http://gw2cartographers.com)
  3. There is generally an incredibly long wait in the queue before you can get into WvW. My wait time on my world is typically 1 to 3 hours. (It varies heavily.) You could easily be getting other skillpoint challenges during that time.
  4. Some of the skillpoint challenges in WvW are deep in enemy territory or require you to go out of your way (from any real objectives) to complete.
  5. The primary purpose of WvW should not be to get skill points. (If it’s just on your way to battle, go for it.)

On the flip side, it should be noted that all the skillpoint challenges in WvW are all “commune” only ones. Meaning, you don’t have to spend your time fighting any NPC.

6 months from now, everyone will be a Commander

in WvW

Well, I have mixed opinions about this one.

First of all, I agree with Slamz that ArenaNet needs to look into the risk of oversaturation of commanders in the long-term. Also, that as it stands, there needs to be more Commanders right now in the WvW field. (Lack of organization right now with so few Commanders, if any.) The current structure is simply just not conducive for organization right now, until Commanders exist to form squads.

That being said, there are a lot of counters for this including have guild run parties where folks aren’t even really using chat anyway (ventrilo, teamspeak, skype, what have you).

Also, Slamz’s proposal doesn’t prevent an oversaturation of Commanders, as 5,000 influence is actually very easy to purchase (it’s 5 gold since you can purchase 1,000 influence at 1 gold a piece). Theoretically, anyone could form their own guild and pay 5 gold coins to get Commander status. What Slamz might not understand is that 5,000 influence is actually not a lot of influence for any guild that is active.

On top of that, I just simply don’t agree that Commander status should be limited to only the chosen ones of active guilds.

I think a better solution is to look into the possibility of creating a separate WvW experience line or achievement track based off of the participation of WvW events (i.e. defend or take over an outpost counts as an event) you participate in. Commander status should be achieved, and more importantly awarded to EXPERIENCED WvW players.

At the moment, I think 100 gold is sufficient enough for at least the next year to be enough of a barrier that only truly dedicated WvW players (or guilds) will have Commanders. (Keep in mind there is nothing stopping an active guild to ask 5 gold from 20 of its members in order to get to 100 gold for one Commander.)

Good suggestions. I hope something does come out of it.

Although, I’m not sure if I agree about the stats boost since I can see it being particularly troublesome a few years down the line if new players want to get into the game.

All in all, I would settle right now for there being more organization abilities for WvW. I know it’ll happen in due time as more people become Commanders (goodness, 100 gold is hard to come by so early on), but it would still be nice to have some more order to the chaos…or an Overmind to the zergs…

How do you 100% Eternal Battlegrounds?

in WvW

Posted by: AceOfEden.5197

AceOfEden.5197

^ What Luthan says is true.

From what I have seen over the past couple of weeks, the base camp location for your world in Eternal Battlegrounds rotates every time that a new match up is made. The match ups seem to be redone on a daily basis (someone can correct me if I’m wrong). So it’s very possible to get 100% EB completion, given the changes in home base locations.

It’s just challenging to do that all the POIs in a single night. (Challenging, not impossible.)

Estate of Decay Issues

in Personal Story

You also need to kill the one/two undead who come from behind every so often, as they’re carrying food for the mouth. I believe if one makes it, the floating weapons return. (I didn’t kill one and the weapons came back)

Definitely don’t forget about what Rylla just mentioned. Kill the couriers, because otherwise the Mouth will regenerate its health.

I didn’t realize how difficult this mission was until I heard some stories from some other players who were playing as caster professions like yourself. I ran through this mission with my Ranger without too much trouble (although the charr NPC heroes died pretty fast in this part, making them both pretty useless). Probably because I primarily use longbow on my Ranger anyway, so I never encountered the Mouth at close range until he was down to his last 30% of health. (By then, all of the spectral guards were gone.)

I learned the hard way though, that the couriers bringing the magical objects do actually lead to health regeneration and abilities for the Mouth. (It logically made sense, but I chose to ignore the couriers at first anyway for whatever reason. It led to him regenerating about 50% of his health.)

Bottom line: stick with range weapons, kill the couriers, keep attacking the mouth.

p.s. with the couriers, you’ll want to start attacking them as soon as you see them walking down the stairs, to ensure that you’ll be able to kill them before they get to the Mouth.

limit on drops and karma?

I have been farming for about a week now, and I have noticed lately that uncommon drops are much less common. My gold per hour has been cut in half. I’m hoping this is just bad luck.

Which area were you farming? And how long were you farming that area?

Have you tried boosting your “luck” with a set of armor specifically for farming, based heavily on + magic find % runes/sigils? Someone I ran a dungeon with had a +50% magic find on their chest piece alone, and I thought that was wild.

advice on WvW build

in Ranger

Posted by: AceOfEden.5197

AceOfEden.5197

I find this build all over the place, but it strangely works (for me).
I’m using short bows for both weaps, (both with cause bleed sigils in them)
quick facts:
I’m a fresh 80 Syl ranger
I wanted to be a crit +condition ranger initially (typical I know) and ended up with a support

I apted for spirits in this build (by accident), because of the realization that burning is NUTS. I also wanted to extend the boons(which I activate on demand) I got from swaping weapons (for fury mostly and 5% damage when I have a boon) to end up with this build and forced to use spirits.

because of the toughness and vit, I can take a whole ton of damage (mostly because in WvW gang bangs are a regular occurence) to revive teamates. The mobile spirits are a dream come true. I also specc’d vit because condition rangers is about DOTs , so it makes sense that I must have the life to out live my opponent(s) while they melt away.

not that I’ve tested the numbers, but I believe I actually pushed out more dmg from this build specing vit than I got from specing power with much more survivability. Mobile spirits ramp up damage of the group quite quickly and exponentially (vs piercing arrows or the trait that increases precision).
Bleeds from crits, so with fury, I decided I don’t need sharpening stone (blasphemous to a conditions ranger? I know) . I took QZ because (its fun =D) of the increased attack speed (plus shortbow, 45% to cause bleed AND fury from swaping weapons) came out to be the better choice.

I’ve decided to drop lightening reflexes also
1) I have no business BEing in the middle of the fray ANYWAY.
2) inconsistent , it doesn’t always work in the fashion its supposed to
3) I can take a LOT of abuse =D

(however for FULL support, i’d take LR over QZ)

Another realization out of this build is because conditions can be removed (quite easily) was also why I decided to make sure burning was used because I can constantly keep conditions on as they are being removed.

closing remark.
- I haven’t played another class (past lvl 10) and I find the ranger is a “jack of all trades” and this is exactly what this build ended up. =)

pardon the long post and thanks for reading =)
comments and advice are much appreciated

PS. can some one explain to me how of nature works?
how does it debuff and revive.

Sweet. I’m a pretty big Ranger fan so I’m with you on focusing almost all my gw2 time with my Ranger for now.

So it’s late, so I had to reread this a couple of times to double check, but you’ve only posted one third to half your build and I’m trying to understand what kind of advice are you looking for exactly. Are you asking folks for their preferred WvW build for the Ranger? Your post seems like you are actually looking for comments and critiques on your build. If that’s the case, here’s what we’ll need in order to provide you an adequate response:

1. What does your trait points spread look like? (You mention you have toughness and vitality, but you don’t mention at all how many points you put in it, and where else you points into. Also, which trait abilities did you choose for your major ones?)

2. What are you using for your utility slots and elite slot? You mentioned a few skills but then you mention you decided to drop them. After reading your post I’m simply confused.

I’m sure the community would love to help you out or give you some more feedback…. you’ll just need to be more clear!

And if you could outline the build (assuming you want feedback on the build) in a bullet point format first before you go into a story, that might work out best.

Sincerely,
Sinful Panda
