A non-raging civil question about Precursors

Precursor Weapons can be acquired from some sources:

- Dragon Chests after killing them (The Shatterer, Claw of Jormag and Tequatl the Sunless);
- Capturing the Temples in Orr;
- Completing rewards from maps [x to 80];
- Explorer Dungeon Reward Chests;
- Mystic Forge (4 weapons of the same type lv75 or more).

These days I’ve seen an increase of Precursors from these sources. I recommend that you make them everyday to increase your chances.

Acquired is the wrong word here IMO. More suitable would be RNGed. I must have had a really bad luck because the only time i got something other than blue from a chest was during Lost Shores event.

Also I have yet to see ANY exotic reward for map completion below last 3 zones.

Fireheart Rise
Frostgorge Sound
Mount Maelstrom

Along with the Orr maps those are the only ones that give exotics.

So instead I get to have the people who started the first month paraded in front of me with their legendaries and 4 figure in-game gold, which they got naturally with no grind, while in the name of “no grind”, ANet eliminates all hope of me ever attaining a legendary in the life of the game by saddling me with bugged DR?

I’m not buying it.

Please, go start a lecture series on the benefits to society of offshoring.

You are forgetting that some of those early precursors were from people exploiting the godskull weapons in the forge. So there is a decent amount of the early legendaries not from natural progression but through exploitative means. Some of those who also have high gold amounts exploited the godskulls to get there as well. Unlike those that were initially banned from the game for the karma exploit (later changed to 72 hrs) those that did the precursor exploit did not get in trouble and did not have their items and gold deleted.

So now we have a market that is being controlled by those that can just buy out and re-list a limited commodity. The step to have bosses drop coin in dungeons did alleviate the stress of making gold but there needs to be other ways. DR only compounds to the over inflated market. It also punishes people who want to farm so that they can get the items they need. If people want to spend hours trying to grind then they should have the option to as long as they are not botting.

I am in no way against criticism, as long as it’s constructive. It’s far too common for people to “complain” about an issue in a manner that’s not productive at all. “It’s not what you say, but how you say it,” applies. Perhaps I was feeling particularly fanboi defensive after having spent some time in the Engineer forums. :P There are indeed issues that can be addressed. Particularly the culling, WvW queue times, Engineers, etc.

I am still rather saddened about the engineer thing. I started giving stuff away Friday and Saturday and stripped my engineer of his bags and gold. The engineer was my favorite class (I have a thief, ranger, warrior, ele and guardian at 80 as well). I pretty much gave up and went back to the 360.

I however can’t say this game has not been fun for me. I have over 1000 hours played, to say I was not entertained would be disingenuous. I still log on for an hour to talk to my friends and do a dungeon on my ele or warrior, but going forward I think I need a break.

Someone posts a positive thread and the doom mongers jump right in. You lot are delusional.

LOL. Quote for truth!

Don’t like the way it’s done? GTFO!

^ This. Just quit and come back when these terrible and awful game-breaking issues are fixed. Your negativity is not productive.

Actually, comments that provide no context of what specifically Anet did a good/bad job with as well as ad hominem comments are not productive… Like the one I’m currently engaging in.

I did like some of the profession tweaks (those who got them) and some fixes… I think it’s fair to say that we shouldn’t expect any major sweeping changes until the big patch update coming in Jan/Feb.

This.

If you had every comment that was positive that would stunt growth or fixes for the game. People should voice out their displeasure with certain aspects of the game, but they should do it in a constructive manner. It does not help when all people do is fan boy faun at the game when there are obvious issues that should be mentioned. The delusional ones are the ones that think everything is perfect when it is not.

The game is fun for the most part. You have accessibility to good gear and armor (aside from ascended which they are working on) once you hit 80. There are things that cater to most people which can take up a good portion of your time.

There are however issues with the game.

-Character balance needs to be addressed. Some professions just outshine others. I am cringing on the notion that ANets is going to look into damage from AoEs.

-Guesting: This was available in the beta (except bwe 3) so why is it not available now? Thankfully dungeons can be done with friends on other servers but for some places (fractals and the holiday instances) you need to be in the same server as the person. This was somewhat doable with LA overflow but what happens to those that don’t have high pop servers trying to get groups for fractals? Wouldn’t making overflows more accessible be a fast fix for this?

-Culling: There are classes in WvW that can cull and it makes them imbalanced. They are trying to fix it with some changes but hopefully they do more.

-DR: What’s the point of this? If you are aggressively pursuing bots and banning them then aren’t the people who are being punished the most legitimate players? This game is about having options to play how you want, why are you punishing those that want to farm for mats to make their ascended back pieces or legendaries by keeping something like DR. I know people will say those are optional and I will agree, but just because they are optional does not mean people should not be allowed to farm for them how they want.

What do you think is overall the best profession, and why?

2. Dont use a staff.
3. Dont use fire.
7. Swap elements. Water does offer some healing, its small but it just may save your life.
( pass it on ! )

Don’t use a staff? What? If you are earth and water spec how can you ignore staff especially in dungeons? Healing Rain is amazing. My rotation is earth 2 4 5 2 then fire 2 3 5 2 and unless people need heals i repeat this rotation. I will use static field if I need to.

Don’t use fire? That is just crazy. How can you neglect a whole attunement?

Warrior might be the best class. Highest health pool, high defense, high damage even when using range.

Where did the game go I used to love?

For me the Fractals and Orr’s problems isn’t a factor for me, i think the most fun in the game is raising all the professions. I’m 440 hours in, and haven’t been in Orr for probably more than 10 or 15 hours across all of my 3 80’s so far. I’ve never run fractals, or any of the dungeons above CM. I may be poor for all of this, but i still look forward to playing every day because I’m not just sticking with one class so it’s all new and fun. This would be my suggestion for you because as I level through end-game changes mean nothing if they create problems- It doesn’t affect you as you progress up to 80. I may be poor but the gold i do earn is from a lot more activity and fun with the game than farming and selling certain things, or running the same activity/dungeon 10s of times.

You might hit the wall at around 6 or 7th profession. At a certain point you will be doing the same activities leveling people to 80. After 30 you will be doing the same story missions and then the same zones like Sparkfly and Bloodtide. I stopped leveling my mes at 12 and my necro at 10. Everyone else is 80.

@Addice

Can’t really argue with you on D3 I was really looking forward to it but my best bud ended up getting it first while I was still having issues with my old PC. After hearing what he said I don’t think I’ll be getting it, I tend to trust only reviews from people I know anymore since it seems any game can get hyped up now then be given awesome reviews by magazines and still get horrible player reviews later on.

I do keep hearing Borderlands 2 is pretty sweet though, only bad thing I heard was cartoony graphics, but if the gameplays good I don’t mind.

There are some caveats with Borderlands 2 though. First you have to actually enjoy FPS games. Second, you should have people to co-op the game with. You can solo the whole game but the fun of it is playing with friends. It has a decent story but the game shines when it comes to the people you meet through the story.

I don’t know how D3 is now but before the grind to get good gear was incredibly ridiculous. You had to spend hours upon hours to get a good drop or farm enough gold to get a decent piece of gear. Definitely not a rewarding game for the time you had to put in. I would have been kitten if I bought the game, thankfully I won it from Alienware Arena.

Farming events is unrewarding!

This game is getting ridiculous when it comes to farming. They got diminishing return system.. but they also have magic find attribute (which helps botters) and the ingredient list of a legendary weapons is something that you just can’t get without farming a lot. But they don’t wanna make the game grindy… mixed signals? :\

And yes I realize that a legendary weapon is not for everyone.. but diminishing returns kick in waaaay too soon. Can’t stay anywhere more than an hour.. An hour of gameplay is nothing special. I don’t log in to GW2 for 5min … I like playing a few hours or so.

It also does not help that this DR system is invisible. So you never know when you’ve hit DR.

Actually botters don’t overprice mats, players do. When all the bots were banned and weren’t around mats just kept on going up higher and higher. The botters will tend t always undercut because they just want their money whereas players will usually try to get as much as possible.

I still don’t see the purpose of DR if they are going to aggressively ban botters. If there are limited amounts of bots running around because of them being banned then isn’t the DR only punishing legitimate players?

No.

What about the fact that there is still no guesting available which was there during the beta. It was promised to us and yet still not here.

Why is it harder to get into overflows? That was one of the only ways to do fractals with friends on other servers as well as the new Wintersday stuff.

What is the point of DR when it comes to loot? If you are banning bots and force people to grind their way to legendaries and mats for ascended gear then what purposely block players from getting their sooner? How is this any different from when WoW blocked people in vanilla by making bosses unbeatable?

@skotie: There are some disappointing things about this game, but biggest letdown is a bit much. Besides GW2 is not even close to the biggest letdown, Diablo 3 will take the title of biggest letdown.

I won’t vote for Max Payne just to vote against GW2, that is just petty. My pick for game of the year is Borderlands 2. At least there is some resemblance of balance between the classes there.

Who is going to stop playing engineer and roll another class for pve and wvw? (good thing they didnt touch bunker engineers)
30% grenade damage nerf is too much and sigils are really not worth 30% of damage.
The only other option is the flamethrower that still cause crap damage and the miss miss miss…

Well I’m going to play on my warrior since they never get nerfed.

As you can see from my signature I completely feel you, i think tho we should at least let people spend some time testing what this is like now before complaining that way we are backed with figures and numbers. I’m the first person to complain trust me.

Engineers can use Elixir S and become immune to damage just like Warriors, is your signature supposed to mean something?

It is a joke. “Shake it Off” is not the immune skill, it takes off a condition. “Endure Pain” is the immune skill.

I am going to retire my engineer for a bit. I have other 80s but my engi was my first and my favorite. I am more disappointed I wasted all that time farming fractals to get the tokens to make a back piece I put on my engi. I should have just put it on my ele along with the rings.

Nerfs happen. I should be used to it, just a little shocked. I still don’t understand why this particular nerf happened. It’s not like we were that OP and for the most part we had to work on timing to get all the nades to him moving targets.

Welp, time to re-roll. How are elementalists?

Just roll a warrior, they never get nerfed. Ele are fine.

Time to retire my engi. If I knew this was going to happen I would have put my ascended back piece on the ele or warrior along with the rings that I got.
