In September 2014 FGS 4 was supposed to receive a +140% damage buff. This was never implemented and currently only the tooltip reflects the change.
It’s been almost 8 months since this should have been implemented and severely affects the viability of the Elite. Currently, FGS is only used for mobility.
Tornado: Needs a substantial rework. It’s one of the few Elites where you’re actually better off not casting it. Ever.
FGS: Really good mobility. If they fix the damage bug, the missing +140% buff to FGS 4, the DPS will be pretty good. With no Dev feedback to multiple threads about it, it seems unlikely they’ll fix this soon.
Elementals: They’re alright. In PvP, it is sometimes used for the Ice Elemental. A condi cleanse, heal and CC on a 15s CD is pretty good even if it’s a bit clunky. This might be used more if, like Necro minions, they had no fixed duration and the CD started when the Elemental dies.
In the September 2014 balance patch, the leap part of Fiery Greatsword 4 was supposed to receive a +140% damage buff as the fire trail was nerfed. Only the tooltip received the buff and the actual damage dealt by the skill is unchanged. This would make FGS used as an Elite for more than just mobility.
This balance change was supposed to be implemented several months ago and I hope it can implemented soon.
Thank you
This is my “it’s almost 7 months later” FGS 4 hasn’t received it’s damage buff thread.
In the September balance changes, FGS 4 was supposed to receive a +140% buff to the leap part as the fire trail was nerfed. This would take it close to a level 1 Eviscerate. Only the tooltip received the buff and the actual skill doesn’t do the correct damage. There has been no fix or any response by Anet.
Having submitted a bug report in game and posted a thread in the bug forums, are there any more ways of getting a response? It should do 3000+ base damage on zerk builds.
Having the same problem. I select a character, the map load screen comes up and then I get the “The game client lost its connection to the server. Please wait a few minutes before restarting the client and trying again. (Code=7:11:3:191:101)” message. Cannot play the game at all.
(edit) Only getting the problem with characters in the silverwastes.

Pretty please? Just one quick reply?
(I know I’m bumping this but this bug changes FGS from good damage to sub-par on a zerk build)
Already done that and got no reply. There have been several threads on the forums with no dev reply.
Sorry to necro but I really need an answer.
Following multiple threads about the FGS damage bug I was wondering whether a dev could quickly answer these questions:
1. Are they aware that the FGS leap did not receive it’s +140% damage buff?
2. When can we expect this to be fixed?
The lack of this damage really impacts the DPS of FGS as, on a zerk Ele, FGS 4 should be hitting for 2.5k+ non-crit.
Thank you.
It’s not working as intended. The fire field received a massive nerf and the leap received a +140% damage increase to keep the Elite viable. The damage buff was not received.
I posted a thread in the Bugs forums a few days ago but got no reply. Surely they must have seen this when testing this skill internally: the tooltip even displays the right damage. I don’t suppose we’ll get a Dev response considering it’s a relatively minor issue but this really impacts the DPS of FGS.
FGS – good damage though FGS 4 doesn’t seem to have received it’s damage buff.
Tornado – situational though synergises well with Lightning Rod.
Glyph – negligeable damage though the Ice ele has a massive heal on a short CD. They generally feel very clunky. The 3/4 self cast time for their abilities is particularly annoying.
Most professions have this problem of having not very good elites.
The tooltip shows damage of 2000+ however it actually does damage of about 1000. While the tooltip is not a precise measure of how much damage a skill does, the actual damage is always higher than the tooltip never lower. (Of course for enemies with high toughness this will not be true but testing the skill with skills which should be doing similar damage like Fire Grab it’s obvious it’s not doing the correct damage)
The patch notes say it should have received a +140% damage buff. This seems to have applied only to the tooltip and not to the damage of the skill.

No this is not the nerf you think… FGS 4 will stop casting if you use lightning flash. This nerf was inflicted because of the ridiculous damage you could get with the fire field. The fire field has now been nerfed so this is no longer a concern. Can FGS 4 be changed back so that this can be used with lightning flash for increased range etc. ? Any thoughts?
So far I’ve been doing dungeon and fractal runs on primarily my Ele but have been playing quite a bit of Engi lately. What sort of builds/gear are good for doing dungeons/fractals?
Thank you very much.
Is there any way of getting blade shards in game anymore? I sold most of mine to the vendor forgetting I needed 250 for the ascended spinal blades. Thanks.
The problem with removing vigor is that professions with low health/armour rely on vigor make up for that lower amount of health and armour. (Ele’s, Thieves and Mesmer’s for instance often have high vigor uptimes) If you remove the vigor, you have to provide something else for the traits/skills that provide vigor which provide the same survivability. At least vigor is less passive than protection and invulns.
It was fun but as a boss that takes multiple retries and a healthy dose of luck to finish it was too punishing. With no simple retry button like similar bosses from other games, you had to pay the WP cost, armour repair, run 1 minute back to the arena and ensure you have enough tickets. That part of the boss is far too annoying even though the boss herself is fun.
Sitkaz, here on RoF, we’ve been placed against Blacktide 4 times, each of which we finished over 100,000 points ahead of Blacktide, we won ALL of them and finished 2 of them close to 350,000 points. Point proven?
Away from server rivalry, here on RoF we’ve just crushed WsR and Arb for the past two weeks and looking forward to a harder matchup maybe against Dzag (who we’ve fought many a time and enjoy fighting despite their questionable tactics) or RoS because while we are only ever fighting for 2nd place, we play strategic/tactical servers and so it’s fun. We weren’t expecting to be dropped into Tier 9 by the randomiser after crushing Tier 8.
Although, to be fair, in the long term when these stabilise a bit more, it should be fun because we’ve just had some very stale matchups and Vabbi/Fissure of Woe never get any chance of winning or an interesting matchup…

It’s a great concept. Hope we get something like this soon. Adding combo fields to some of the attacks, as you’ve got the Earth finishers but a lack of combo fields. As it’s a one handed weapon however, it would synergise well with dagger (You’ve got the gap closers and Ring of Fire) and with focus (Flame wall and defensive spells/auras) but would need at least one more combo field.
Use the 1 recipe, if you’d done that with the 1 recipe you’d have tried 110 times not 11. It’s RNG, the smaller the number of tries, the higher the volatility. The more times you do it, even with the same drop chance, the volatility is much much lower giving you more clovers. Seriously, do the mathematically sensible things, use the 1, not the 10, recipe.
It does 10k ONLY with 100%+ Crit Damage + abilities increasing damage to low health targets + Full zerker gear and traits + Is against a burning target. With a balanced Ele build it will do 2K to a burning target. It also has crap targeting . It’s also melee on a class with very little health or armour and is on a 45s CD.
Yeah, they’re most definitely the most difficult to fight because their mechanics are very different to most other games/classes. If you’re really stuck, try making a Mesmer alt and try out the different weapon sets. Once you’re familiar with them and know what the Mesmer can actually do, it’s a lot easier to fight them.
Surely it would be currently be the charr or humans. At the moment we nothing of the Charr homelands so can’t make a judgement there. Neither do we know anything currently of Cantha or Elona whose populations would bolster the humans substantially. More importantly, we don’t know what will happen to Orr once the corruption is cleansed, if it once more becomes a human kingdom, that would again increase the humans population. Ultimately, we have no idea but hopefully some of the possibilities will be dealt with in new content and expansions…
The problem would be how the “underattack” mechanic would work. This means that you know when someone’s trebbing/golem rushing/attacking you. You can then find the source of it. (Though this all takes time). With a siege tower you could get through the first wall of any keep/tower/sm really easily as there is no warning. Equally, it would force defenders on any tower to have massive amounts of siege to be able to man it quickly enough to take down a tower coming towards you as you have no warning short of having a scout in every tower, watching every side of every keep and the sm.
The other thing would be that it would work much better cross-server. At non-peak times there are enough throughout all servers but not enough on each server. This renders gw2lfg.com complicated and map chat pointless.
Surely the most important thing here is that how strong humans are depends on what has happened in Elona and Cantha and, more importantly, what will happen to Orr. (Will it be rebuilt and then see a second strong human kingdom) The strength of the Charr has so far been focusing on greater threats to hold their society together and we don’t know whether they can make that transition to a peaceful society recognising almost strategic parity with other nations. The Norn would never be conquered by anyone because they live in a harsh climate with a decentralised system where you would have to burn the entirety of their land to completely conquer them. (Kind of like Switzerland in WW2- not as strong as other powers but no one would want to conquer them)The harsh climate would make it difficult to move an army through and there isn’t much to conquer. The Asura are probably the weakest because their technological strength is undermined by the lack of co-operation and continual attempts to undermine each other for personal pride. They are equally too arrogant to work properly in alliances with other races. The Sylvari are powerful because of how they’re produced however at the same time the Pale Tree is unlikely to order the Sylvari to march and wipe out one of the other races/kingdoms. Equally the Charr or other races might be able to burn the Pale Tree but they would have to transport siege weapons etc. through miles of forest where the trees, animals and the entirety of nature is against you. (Things like Binding Roots would destroy siege weapons).
Although this is quite an old post I just combined some rings and earrings into the Mystic Forge and I got a darksteel earing. I’m a level 315 jeweler. Anyway, I’m quite happy because its worth close to 10 gold.
Get yer PvE out o’ me WvW just give me a gold star fer WvW so I can have me legendaries now.
Counter point ta yer post. Jes because I despise PvE doesn’t mean I shouldn’t have to do it to get my star and 100% map completion. Just think of it as a massive Dynamic Event where you need a lot more people to achieve it.
Edited for this point:
Who’re you to judge how, or why I play the game? I like PvE STYLE of play, not WvW, which is why I put in a lot of hours completing the PvE maps. You haven’t, and clearly prefer spending your time in WvW. Good for you, I am genuinely glad to see you are enjoying yourself. But if you want to turn this forum into a blog about why you think the WvW experience is superior to PvE then please take your soapbox and go start your own post.
This is the way ANET wants you to play and make the sacrifice to obtain a rather rare achievement (which also gains you the opportunity for other gear that the majority will not gain without a huge monetary dump). So, nobody gets special concessions. That includes you.
