Is there like a MAC guild.. because i see this problems are gonna keep happening.
It’s still April 11th. I’m sorry you live in the Europe, but this game runs on West Coast time. It’s annoying for me as well; honestly I wish they would run on GMT, because the resets are on GMT, but sadly they don’t. Of course the PC gets a fix quicker; there’s way more PC players and PC actually has a native client. I feel like none of you are thinking about the time zones before you post. It was one thing when no one was answering us earlier this week, but now they finally are and have said they are working on it.
It’s almost heartbreaking to see the lengths people go to defend a company, even now when it’s not “morning April 11th” anywhere on this planet. Wait.. they didn’t say earth time did they? Hmm.
if you are not sure about a fix then stop dishing out dates and time,,, not wonder people get impatient,,,,,
Where is Anet?
Is it still morning now?
whats a crossover?
Crossover is yet another commercial fork of the Wine-Project(in simple terms, wine translates the “commands” of windows software so that a Unix-like system as Linux and OS X can “comprehend” it). Cider, which is used to make GW 2 run on a Mac is also a fork of Wine.
I’ve had this problem for a long time. It rarely has even worked in the past year I’ve played. Tp constantly has issues.and seldom ever worked properly. Now it’s nonstop 3 weeks at least of absolutely not working at all.
This is very frustrating and making me upset that despite my tickets nothing has been done.
1. Fix the TP
2. Fix the TP
3. Fix the TP
4. Fix the TP
5. Fix the TP
In other words, I’d like them to fix the TP.
Updated every Monday
Hi Danicia,
updated
As you have noticed, there is concern in the mac community about arenanet’s policy to not say anything but what seems to be appeasement along the lines of “We will keep you updated (with statements of keeping you updated)”.
1. Don’t call it a beta if it isn’t. It’s a lie, as in not the truth. It’s a finished product somewhat poorly wrapped.
2. Tell us if you are working on a native client
3. Please remember that no matter how good your intentions might be, the only thing that players are able to see is what is in the game and your posts here. This leads to the impression that Arenanet doesn’t care at all for the mac community and has over and over again tried to push our complaints away in a “we will update you soon (on nothing)” manner.
4. again, _TELL_us if at least one person is working on a NATIVE client. And with working I mean at least one person at Arenanet is getting paid to work_full time_on a mac native adaptation.
5. Last but not least the performance related things…
Fix anything, really. Bad framerate, low textures supported, trading post not working most of the time, lots of crashes & all that beautiful jazz.
I have no idea how and to what extend it can be improved but you always have the option to change something in the mac “beta” client and then ask for our opinion on whether or not it brought an improvement.
5.1 What bothers me most is having to play with really low settings.
5.2 I don’t have a lot of crashes, virtually none actually so I can’t complain about this but as it seems other people go through lots of trouble to get rid of those crashes
5.3 The main thing is that we only get 1/2 of quality/fidelity of what the windows version has to offer…

I am going to write my list assuming that a native (non-cider) client is a pony that is unlikely to happen in the near/medium future; so these all wishes for the existing cider client:
1. Resolution of the existing crasher bugs that have been in the cider client since launch…. or at least for a very long time. — Hopefully the mac support people have a better feel for these since they crop up in the forums week after week, but in my particular case it would be the “dstBits” or “lockedRect” crashes that seem to occur when you have graphics settings cranked up and are in a place with a whole lot of models and spell effects, such as WvW zergs or living story content. This would be the single biggest QoL change for me because it would mean I would stop crashing in the middle of events and boss kills and losing credit for them.
2. Fix the trading post / gem store loading issues. — I feel like I am playing the lottery every time I try to load up the trading post or gem store… sometimes it works… sometimes the spinner just spins forever… sometimes it loads the gem store tabs but not the rest of the content, etc.
3. Investigation into major performance bottlenecks. — I have a 3.2Ghz quad-core xeon (Nehalem), 16GB of ram, and a GTX 680 with 2MB of vram. It is no pro gaming rig, but it should be pretty reasonable. Instead, if I sit still in front of the mystic forge, set the graphics preset to “Best Performance” and change the resolution to 1024×768 it is just barely able to get over 50fps… this is pretty miserable. I understand that cider is having to translate DirectX -> OpenGL so some performance is always going to be lost… but 50fps while subsampling 1024×768 on a GTX 680 with the lowest possible settings is just crazy. It has to be getting tangled up in something else. (Attached a screenshot)
4. It is 2014… surely TransGaming has made a 64-bit version of cider by now so that we can use more than 4GB of memory and have High textures and stuff… right? If not, please post their customer service phone number and all of us will be glad to call and complain directly to them.
5. Not a complaint/issue but since you said these could be anything, thank you for continuing to support the mac client even if it isn’t a high priority! I would be very sad if mac support was dropped.

still the same nothing changed
Thank you so much for the update. Greatly appreciated!!
3 days later… still no news.. :/ Im a sad person right now
Well I guess that no fix has been made yet.
Let’s see if I have got this correct? A change was made with no consideration whatsoever of the Mac community. If there was any, then they would have tested the fix and not made it until they had got it right for all. Instead they went ahead and compromised Mac users without consideration.
As a result, we are unable to price, sell or buy anything on the tp in a critical period leading into a major update. We also are missing out on various specials and discounts in the gem store, and we cannot deal in gems. Most importantly, we cannot use the gems they charged us real world dollars for (which I guess makes for an interesting legal position).
Now, we have several additional days of waiting for a series of promised fixes, none of
which seem to be appearing. Guess they love the Mac community with all their hearts.
Yeah, your right. It’s disgraceful that Amazon forgot to check GW2 before rolling their keys. They should defiantly have left all their millions of customers vulnerable to heartbleed related issues and delayed the critical security change.
In case you didn’t realise, </sarcasm>
EDIT: It’s also not “an interesting legal position”. Maybe you should read the contracts you’re agreeing to?
@ CC Danicia – Are we looking at reset for the hotfix?
As a Mac user, i have also been having the same issue with Black Lion trading. I tried Anet’s proposed solution of deleting the Guild Wars 2 folder from library and emptying the trash but that has not worked.
Please come up with a solution soon
Still broken for me too, so I did some digging…
The symptoms that users are reporting here are roughly similar to what folks were seeing in Wine with GW2 and other games that use Awesomium to display web content in game. https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27168
Because the Cider framework that the Mac Beta uses has a very ancient version of the supporting libraries (crypt32.dll aka libcrypt32.dylib) that were implicated in the Wine bug, it’s quite possible that this is what is breaking BLTC content display for GW2’s Mac users.
Possibilities for fixing this include:
- ArenaNet could try to get SSL certificates that don’t require chaining for Awesomium to validate. It looks like, from the bug reports above, that this might mitigate things. This will make the certs more expensive, but the certs for *.guildwars2.com and *.ncplatform.net are going to expire in about two weeks anyway, so now would be a great time to do this. Unfortunately that may not be possible for the CDN *.cloudfront.net that is being used to serve some of the in-store content, which probably makes this a non-starter. :-(
- Get TransGaming to patch Cider’s DLLs/dylibs for the Wine bug mentioned above. This will be somewhat tricky given how far these pieces of code have diverged. And since it’s in the neighborhood of the crypto code it will need a very thorough testing cycle once completed. Don’t want to accidentally repeat the mistakes of Apple and OpenSSL and GnuTLS and countless others…
- Awesomium could try to workaround these bugs in the emulated Windows libraries. This will create a lot of needless maintenance burden for them and is definitely the wrong way to approach fixing this.
My only character is a boonway cleric, and I typically play WvW roaming solo or in a small group making my party perma-swift and practically invincible, with full might and fury every 30 seconds.
But today I had the whole evening to play, not just half an hour before sleep but the whole evening; so I looked back at the times I was crafting this guardian running all dungeons with this small 7-man guild.
Facing subject alpha with mediocre green/yellow gear for the whole team which was up to level 70.
Dodge the fire, focus on the little turds, get up the downed and die constantly.
And we eventually succeeded. It was really fun. It was bullkitten hard.
So yeah, I thought about those times and I launched the magnificent LFG tool. Avoided the “full zerker, speedrun lvl80 only experienced rush” tags since I’ve already been in many of those teams which just skipped everything.
First thing I noticed with this party is they would all run straigt to the same corner, wait for the monsters to also pile up and roll their face on the keyboard.
“Oh well, I suppose subject alpha shall be different with those death rings and massive attacks”. Nope! All stack on a crate and do nothing.
“Well then, there’s no way we all pile up at the console part with all the golems exploding into rings of fire”. Nope! all piled up at the console killing the golems too fast for them to explode. Then everyone timed the console so it glitched and skipped the remaining waves at the same time.
“Screw this dungeon, I’m going AC. Hopefully at the pull-spin boss we’ll see some moves”. Skip? thankfully people were like “no, it’s quick and it’s a champion”. Allright, hooray.
Then guess what. Everyone stacked in that column fissure and fought standing still. WHAT!
“Fighting the graveling boss which shoots that deathray shout? People will DEFINITELY play around and dodge that beam”. LOLNOPE! Stack on another crack in the wall so attacks don’t hit.
Screw it. From now on the only dungeons I’ll be running will be story mode with noobs.
I also loved climbing up solo the tower of nightmares. It was a fun thing to do. But everyone else semt to only move in the choochoo train.
Just like in WvW. Who cares about defending a tower or a camp or hitting with a small squad? It’s just choochootrain everywhere! Even the symbol of swiftness is encouraging that style of play! MAN I’M kitten ED!
Am I the only one who hates the way gw2 is evolving?
Simply put, I’m getting bored because:
1) Items I want cost gold. See #2
2) Obtaining Gold in this game is like watching paint dry. End game based around economy is good for anet, bad for me…I know it’s a crappy cycle too, the more gold we are able to get, the more gold I would need because prices would rise/inflate.
3) Don’t think I have had an Exotic drop in at least 2+weeks. Drops are abysmal
4) Hate this games RNG…see #4.
5) In 1yr of playing had 1 precursor drop where I think in 1yr of playing I should have had 1 of each exotic weapon that is able to drop, drop.
6) Open World pve zerging is wearing thin for me. This ant swarm tactic for content is sucking the enjoyment from my bones. Autoattack is boring.
7) The focus on Scarlet for living story is boring me. Want to see these racial enemy sects stories progressed. The Svanir/Inquest/Flame Legion/NIghtmare Court so on and so forth. Connecting them to Scarlett isn’t doing it for me.
8) See 1-7

yes please. i think lot of us would really appreciate and love this

To start with.
Don’t reply to this topic if you can only say things like “don’t game on a Mac”.
I want to suggest a native Mac OSX client.
There is an active fan base of players who are using a Mac for their gaming fun.
Arenanet supplied us a GW2 mac client, but this was in fact a wrapper, and therefore the gaming performance is no where near the possibilities the Mac hardware gives us.
On the Mac part of this forum a lot of people are asking for this. However this subsection is not “covered” by Arenanet with their attention.
So I made a support ticket, where I wanted to request this Mac Client.
However support directs me to the “Suggestions” section of this forum.
Therefore I am setting up this thread.
Mac uses OpenGL instead of DirectX and with a native client I truly think OpenGL can give players even a better performance then playing the game through DirectX.
Please give a native Mac Client a shot, because I know a big player group would really enjoy the game more and it will also attract a complete new group of potential players.
