Well, for what it’s worth, this is what i’m running as best i recall.
I built for precision and power, i liked Acrobatics for the extra dodge and all that. If there’s no meta to speak of, that’s actually a good thing. I like being able to do what I want and not feel as though i’m missing something that’s “better.”
Gonna take me a while to get back into the swing, and since i am relearning anyway, thoguht i’d take the opportunity to cleanse some bad habits. here’s hoping, and thanks.
So I played a bit last night, fixed some camera issues (thank god there’s action camera in this game), played about with spec and did a quick Fractal to see if i could remember what I was supposed to do.
I was slow, I was terrible…but I think I’m vaguely remembering how to play, which is nice.
I miss old specs…i used to go like 20/30/15/10/15 or something (can’t remember exactly) and I miss being able to do that. Now I can’t decide if Mug is worth it over proccing poison on dagger attacks.
Help, what’s the meta for non-daredevil right now? (i’m going to try it, but not spending money on HoT yet)
I was always a dagger/pistol fan, yeah. Though I could never make up my mind about double dagger or pistol/dagger for my swap.
Has anything really changed for us or have old skills continued to go into disuse?
Hey everyone. I started at launch and played up until the toxic castle event at the lake/liberation of Lion’s Arch back in the day. I used to WvW a lot, a little bit of SPvP on the side.
Thief was always my favorite class, really dug the style and abilities: stabbing people is fun.
What do I need to know and look out for most coming back after all this time? I pretty much missed all of Heart of Thorns/Elite Spec stuff.
I SPvP some, but i’m bad, so i’m not sure I like all these changes that much. :P
If they went ahead with your ideas though, i’d just adjust to being bad in a different way.
Also, fleet shadow cancels the signet, but the signet doesn’t cancel the trait. You always take the higher of the two buffs. I have traveller runes and i still gain a speed buff while in stealth when i run that trait.
This is what i’m doing right now (you’ll note not everything is exotic, because I haven’t got everything i need yet…). It’s mostly PvE, but i do run with some friends from time to time in WvW. My SPvP is much different, but i haven’t been doing as much lately and I’ll probably change it when I do.
I played basically the same thing before the patch.
I haven’t rerolled, but i play a few other characters. I just like thief the most.
Still playing, GW2, i do think thieves got hit bad, but i also think that people just need time to adjust. Things will always change.
I don’t think thieves need anymore downgrading for a while, no.
Apparently some people are still doing well, i don’t know. I’ve always been a little slow on my thief, so i can’t say personally. Though i also don’t play any of the builds that got “nerfed” (i use quotes, but i agree they did get smacked hard), so I’m not sure how much harder it is, other than from the complaints on these forums.
Sorry your experience was so crappy.
That’s an interesting suggestion. hrm…
PvE is easy. Not only that, it’s forgiving, so if you screw up recovery is not tough at all.
Evade vs stability/aegis is kind of pointless. They both require some manner of skill to play, but even with the thief built in evades in their attacks, you can pretty easily tell when you need to do them to dodge an attack while hitting.
Yeah, fixing the problem sections of our class would be great, but there are a crap ton of threads devoted to that already. :P
this is not final fantasy
It most certainly is fantasy, though. Nothing wrong with what he’s suggesting. We already have tons of bikini armor in this game…
If your main priority is the PvE side of WvW, you probably want to focus damage and steatlth mostly. Dagger and shortbow help mobility and i’d suggest runes of the traveller to get the 25% runspeed without using a slot skill so you can have more tricks.
Sorry i’m not much help, but if you aren’t worried about enemy players other than escaping when you need to, i think this will work fine.
I got a decent pull out of it last night on a warrior. He looked pretty surprised that it worked, maybe he’s a former thief.
I agree it should be changed. I think swapping it with a major trait would be the best solution (other than giving us something entirely new).
However, if you can’t play knowing when it’s going to happen and adjusting your style (or even spec), i don’t know what to say. I’m terrible at this game and i think i’ve been “killed” by Last Refuge less than 10 times in a year.
Yeah, i see what you’re saying. Won’t be on until much, much later today, but looking at the builds, they’re both pretty nice. 98% critical damage seems pretty good.
So I’ve got a 50+ guardian and as things go, I’m liking virtues. I’m thinking of using it (and i’ve read some of the opinions on how they work, so you don’t have to tell me how bad they are) but regardless of that, I had a friend who played guardian for a while and he was full zerk gear at all times using great sword with Revenge of the Fallen.
Basically he would charge, throw chains, retaliation field then whirl, kill EVERYONE he caught with chains, then i would come in behind on thief and finisher everyone while he got into a 50/50 battle with whoever was left (usually i found him on the ground beating the crap out of people from his back, rallying over and over again).
In any event, were we just lucky (all the time) or is this a real thing?
Also, what are your strange moments with the guardian class?
It works as intended, i agree completely with Jon, the Dev. Work on not dodging by accident and improve your situational awareness. Renewed Focus is great, but there’s a reason we have multiple elites, the same one isn’t the best for everything.
I hate that kitten giant. I kill him through rallies on my thief. Though i should try him on guardian (when i get there, only 52).
That was a pretty quick kill, though.
i think i t will be good against zerk melee classes
but as you find yourself against more tankier or bunker builds you’ll start to feel the pressure of low initiatives combine with low health and armor poolyour dmg is average with low crit dmg
test it yourself and tell us
I was thinking the same. What are the good damage builds? Do they ususally revolve around dodging or staying stealthed?
The the rest of the feedback, I’ll need to do testing. Unfortunately, i’ve been playing this build in one shape or another for a while and it hasn’t worked, i’ve tried higher damage builds, higher survivability builds etc and they’re fun, but I know i’m not playing them right or i’d be having more success. I only recently started to get really focused on coming up with a plan, rather than just trying to win by reacting constantly, i had the luxury of being more opportunistic in the past because i ran with a group, but now i’m stuck solo.
The idea behind this build is to dagger/pistol 3 to shadowstep into the enemy and blind them, hack away until poison is applied, dodge, pistol 5 to heartseeker into stealth, dodge behind them, steal then backstab, then dodge again and try it all over when initiative is back up.
My question is, will the general idea work? Is this build the best way to do it? Basically playing a theif since launch and my playstyle hasn’t meshed well with what seems to be intended (ie, i stink).
Anyway, here’s the build.
