Is Scorpion Pull at all useful?

Maybe I’ve just been unlucky with it then, but considering I have to decide between Shadowstep or Scorpion Shot (Signet of Shadows and Shadow Refuge are my other two utilities)… I’ll keep trying to slot in Scorp when it seems like it’ll be more useful, but with how the distance part of it is calculated I don’t think its going to be any use on anything running away.

i use it on jumping puzzle vs campers, i stealth and pull them before they knockback/fear me
outside JP i find it uselss, skill is easy to dodge /block, and it won’;t pull more then 600 range:)

That’s actually the most use I’ve gotten out of it against a Mesmer who was camping in Obsidian Sanctum. But beyond this, I’ve never managed to pull someone off of walls yet (always get obscured) and it seems that by the time the wire hits where they now are, they’re far enough away from the initial cast of the wire to be out of range.

I think it’d be a lot better if they’d only check for the range on the skill’s cast. It can keep the animation/cast time, so player’s can dodge it. But if they were in range from when it was cast, it should still hit. Or heck, if they’re still in range of you (it seems like it compares the range from where they are when it hits, to where you were when it cast – which I think is the major reason why it seems so bloody useless when I try).

So, I’ve been playing around with WvW a bit, and while I’m an admitted novice and still learning, it seems like Scorpion Pull is next to useless, especially when compared to the other pulls professions have. Despite at least a near dozen times trying to use it, it only succeeded once – and that was against a Mesmer who was standing still. It seems that unless they’re right on top of me (invalidating the need for the skill, really) its impossible to grab someone because they’ll just be out of range by the time the second long animation finally ‘hits’ them.

Is there just something I’m messing up? Or is this skill really that useless and doesn’t deserve being on a skill bar?

I love the teleport in PvE. It is dramatically useful, allowing you to go from the likely very deadly area you’re in, to a safe area on top of the rest of your party to be revived easily. It frequently means the difference between being back up or being killed, and at the very least saves your party from a ton of damage they would have taken trying to get your kitten back up. Mind you, I wish it would let me go into tower portals in WvW, bloody Elementalist run. /:

Smoke Bomb however… Yeah, it used to be amazing for PvE when it could drop combat so I could get back up easily. Now its just kind of useless. /:

The ten Shadow Arts was for Infusion of Shadow, primarily for PvE content so that CnD only has a 4 initiative cost (making it pretty spammable between stealth cool down timers). Granted that’s primarily for PvE content, I’d likely have to fiddle around with a build for something right for PvP (perhaps with a less crit mindset, although 100% backstab crit chance is so nice).

Thief seems to get a nice supply of these, just from their steal skill. One of my favorites is the green area steal (forget its name) which you can leap for chaos armor. Also, a lot of elementalists drop fire AoEs on a target, to which a quick Heartseeker will give you fire armor.

Not sure what the whirl with Leaping Death Blossom does, yet. xD

Either for exploration mode or PvP, I’ve sorta been wondering this as I’ve scratched my way to level 80 with almost full strong/zerker gear. The current build I’m using is 25 deadly arts, 30 critical, 10 shadow arts, and 5 acrobatics, so I at least get +100 tough/Healing Power and 50 vit from traits, and get 5% of my precision as vit as well (about ~80 vit with 1600 precision): so, total of about 100 tough/130 vit.

I’m usually invisible half the time in PvE due to cloak and dagger/backstab spam, so I don’t tend to draw much attention. The last dungeon I did, CM story, I was pretty much able to attack liberally without much issue, only having trouble on the golem. Still, I’m wondering how much I should invest in tough/vit gear to off set the zerkers I’ve been accumulating.

I still don’t get how its grey. I still have a orange discoveries as I draw to a close at the end of that tier… Maybe it’s something to do with the level 0-75 tier, which I don’t remember much due to me floundering around and discovering everything myself (so much wasted mats…)

There’s usually two sets of insignias/inscriptions you can make, the first three (claws, venoms, and fangs I believe?), then you get another three or four using the fine crafting materials that weren’t in the previous. After that, you’ll get inscriptions for all of them that require 8 materials. Make the 8 material inscriptions and find discoveries with them by combining that with the two components for an item, and you should be set.

If you don't like a character at level 30. Change!

You do get higher level traits, which may or may not affect your decision.

Some trait options seem to make a huge difference, though. Infusion of Shadows, for example, makes a dual dagger back stabber much stronger and more active than without it, and could make it more fun for players.

Should I invest in the 18 slot bags? D:

Thanks for reminding me about buying new bag slots. I decided to just fork over the 2g for two bag slots, and buy a pair of 12 slot bags. Total of around 2.5g for 24 extra bag space, that should be all I’ll ever need, unless I decide to carry around multiple sets of extra gear.

I hope disabling the helm appearance works, it does for me but I’m not sure if that’s just because I picked the bandana option, rather than the hood. So, best of luck!

The Order of Whispers karma armor does have a hood, I believe. Its the armor you see most of their agents wearing (and looks… well, it looks funny on norns. Asurans just have the problem of not looking good at all with a hood).

However, from my experience, it looks like the armor choice you make at the start affects your character’s default look, so deciding to turn off the appearance for your helm causes the option you selected to show through. For example, I’m using the bandana option, and I can either decide to wear the fancy swashbuckler look, or disable the helm appearance and have the bandana show instead (it also shows when I’m wearing the goggle/eye piece attire).

The best way to level professions is my discovering new weapons/armors, which you do by taking the inscription of your choice, then putting that and the two components for an item (example: padding + armor for shoulders), the result is a new magical weapon or armor which should give you 1.5-3 levels per discovery.

Pretty much the best way I’ve seen to level per tier is get the first 20 levels smelting/refining items, then make the rest discovering new weapon/armor combinations with inscriptions/insignias.

If you already knew this… Well, not sure what else to do to help you.

I’m seriously stuck in a conundrum about this. Its 2g for each bag for me to craft, but I’m still running around with the four 8 slot bags I made back in the first starting zone when I first leveled leatherworking. I’ve got plenty of gold at the moment (~16g, a bit less due to dying a lot getting the exploration completion for the orr zones), but its still a rather hefty chunk of change… And could definately be worth it, especially since I’m stock piling items to throw into the mystic forge, and have a magic find gear set on my person now.

So yeah, dunno if I should or shouldn’t.

My opinion?

Tybalt. ;~;

But other than that (I’m still not over that. ) I’ve been enjoying them for the most part. It seems to drag a bit in the Orr zones, but hopefully it’ll pick up, its probably just frustrations with me playing a rather squishy build and exploring thus being a pain in the rear. Most of the voice acting seems pretty good or great to me, and the character development it gives to your own character seems pretty darn cool (although might not fit your own desires for that characters voice/interaction/what not). I just wish there was more Asuran things my thief could say, like in his starting acts.

And seriously, Tybalt. TT_TT

Crafting for profit?.

you cannot craft for profit in this game, you cannot get wealthy with crafting because everyone get farm everything.

Actually, you can. I’ve made several gold off of crafting level 35 rare weapons and selling them on the Trading Post, originally for 50s a pop. Now, however, the price of the blood vials have increased and the price their selling for is drastically lower, there’s still a bit of profit but not much. I’m looking for another means of using my profession skills now.

Still, I’ve gotten to 16g primarily just because of the initial boon of making rare weapons for the trading post. I could probably find another market where costs of mats on TP are lower than the going price and sell, but the level 50 rares take forever to sell, higher probably won’t do much good either.

I'm always underlevel

I was usually higher level than the content I was working towards, and I progressed pretty evenly. I was leveling two professions though, so that was largely the difference (and all the farming for fine mats to level leatherworker and weaponsmithing Shiver).
