[Suggestion] More (alternative) Music

Hi there @ Arenanet

After playing GW2 for so long I come over a thing which I wish to see updated in this game: Music (-style)

By this I don’t mean new orchestral songs as you added in the last update (good work by the way!) but some new kind of musics from different genres. There are so many races in this game and some of your audio tracks already are attached to their “culture”, but I think there could be more difference.

For me I would like to see some acoustic guitar tracks (typical campfire style) or some folksy stuff – for example as many D&D games offer. For the Asura maybe you will find a way to add some electronic/modern stuff (that fits the game of course), for the Sylvari something more natural, maybe “elfish” or old Irish or Gaelic based. The Charrs could even get some (soft) metal-like music matching the steampunk environment.

I mean I love the music in GW2 , I often listen to the soundtrack when I am offline, even sometimes when driving (it helps in traffic ;-) but I really wish to see (hear) some more variety.

There are many (older) games out there that have those special songs and soundtracks that stay in your ears long after playing them (or even can get you awake during the game). If you remember it, see the Song “Scroll” from “Lords of the Realms 2” for example – it’s very old so bad quality and a little naive of course but a really catchy tune. Or see Baldur’s Gate 2 of course. In GW2 there only seem to be the main theme, then a long time and then all this medieval “easy-listening”-stuff played by the same orachestral line-up (nothing against the composer, I really appreciate him, but it all sounds like the Elder Scrolls ;-).

Edit: Ok, I will add this after first comment: Of course you can play your own track-list even from your standard music player, but that was not what I intended. It of course should fit and integrate into the GW2 world.

Come on, this is not tool time. It is a fantasy game. I am with the OP. As a warrior (especially a Norn) it looks a little bit weird if you wear two fat axes and smash your opponent again and again with only one hand.

And from a historic point of view: know that shields (for example) were often used not only as a defensive wall but were integrated into the fight in many ways – smashing, knocking, getting distance. And I guess not only every 30 seconds.

@JemL: Yes of course. That wasn’t what I meant. As stated in my first post I indeed sometimes “like” it if a champ punishes me that way if I didn’t pay attention. But a champ is a champ and a regular mob is just one of a million.

Edit: Changed topic to explain it better.

Ok, seems that I am not the only one. I have noticed this with many of my characters. At the moment I am running through Sparkly Fan with my Warrior (77). But remember all those centaurs, ogers, spiders, krait, undeads, drakes, humans – uhm, is there any kind of mob that doesn’t knock you down all the time?

I do not want PvE getting “easier”. I want Anet to be a little more creative finding ways to “enhance grinding experience” than this. Because at the end and after 1000 mobs it only remains as another form of time sink. Again: laying on the floor for 4-5 seconds in every(!) fight isn’t fun.

Yes there are some classes who don’t have those problems (at least my ele or ranger didn’t notice this so often). But I think you shouldn’t punish melee chars like this – no matter if they do more damage or not.

Hi,

is it just me or did you also notice that nowadays every little mob is able to knock you down or stun you in some way?

I think this is not real kind of fun over time, rather annoying..

See, I do not have any problem, when a boss mob or even a veteran stuns you for some seconds leaving you vulnerable when you don’t pay attention or so. But when you are forced to kill 30 guys to fill this kitten ed heart and every one of these 30 is able to knock you down for 3+ seconds that sums up quiet fast and gets a little bit boring.

Yeah of course you can dodge (if you see the undead raising his hammer or so) but firstly that is not always visible (my favorites are those stupid Kraits underwater) and at the end it really doesn’t care if you loose time dodging or sitting on the floor. Again, that can be fun for special enemies but please, do not overuse it.

Hejda!

I am not going to comment your giant post right now as i am only 62 with my guardian at the moment and i have not yet seen all the game to be able criticise your post.

All I wish to say is, Eveningstar, for me this is by far the best written guide to any role playing game class I have ever seen bevor in my long mmorpg live (there have been plenty of them for me until now). It just feels so right to read it and could be an official guideline or part of the startegy book (you should insert some pics for that ;-). It just was fun to read it. Thanks for that!

Around L50 I asked myself if Guardian is really the right class for me – because other classes seem to have so much more fun doing damage especially in WvW. But when I read all your comments on our abilities you opened my eyes for the wide range of opportunities that we are given by Arenanet. You are right – there is so much to explore in our traits, our different weapon sets, our consecrations and their combination. I love my Guardian more than any other twink now (ok – not in WvW) and a big part comes because of your guide.

So I have to say: Very very nice work!
