So I wish they had told us this earlier, i bought the sublime t3 wvw chest piece for light with my tickets so far. If i had known that i could of used the t2 wvw armor to upgrade that to legendary (weeks of work and many many hours btw, MUCH more than a pve raid) I would of bought the ascended T2 chest. I bought the exotic one because it was cheaper and at the time i only had to unlock that skin to get the T3 piece which I wanted for the blue tentacle effect.
Had I known that there would of been added benefits to buying the t2 ascended I would of done that instead and turned it into legendary quality. That T2 chest piece cost me more hours to acquire than it would take me to obtain a legendary chest piece via the pve raid method if I started from nothing.
PVE raids take me ~2.5 hours a week to full clear, I don’t remember exactly but i believe spirit weave is like a 5 week time gate?
1 week of wvw is not enough to unlock the t2 wvw chest piece, and due to my rank it takes me ~15 hours per week to finish the diamond chest…….
seems really fair
I didn’t know they paid others to use their accounts. I never heard of such a claim.
You never heard of such a claim because it’s completely false, we didn’t pay anyone to play our accounts.
Vallun streamed all our matches with coms if anyone wants to look.
https://www.twitch.tv/videos/161241168
We all played our mains, coms are there for all the matches
It would not deter future buyers because the buyers are now only prevented from participating in pvp (which they did not participate in previously), they are pve-ers. In no way was their regular routine game play affected (aka pve and some wvw for pips). Slap on the wrist for the pve-ers. But better that something was done as opposed to nothing at all.
In pve raids all it takes 2.5-3 hours every week of players who are familiar with the encounter and you’re done for the week and you have your 13LI and 150 magnetite shards. High skill not required, anyone who tells you that is handing you misinformation; I don’t even bring my main to raids anymore, I bring my off classes that otherwise collect dust. My point is, pve raid is just a time sink.
WvW is 175 tickets per week, but easily takes 15-30 hours to acquire them. The time investment is not nearly equivalent to that of wvw.
Can you imagine spending wvw tickets on infusions, ascended salvage kit, ascended rings/amulet/accessories? The price is laughable and I pity the individual who wastes tickets on these and other outrageously priced items.
For the sheer amount of time it takes to get to and complete the diamond chest the first time, I don’t see why tickets should not be repeatable for those who continue wvw-ing.
I can’t see anyone spending their tickets on any of the infusions and other petty rewards anytime in the next 2 years considering there are much more prestige skins to work towards instead.
oh but I did read somewhere in this thread about wvw rank finishers, that idea is awesome and I think it would be great if anet gave us a unique finisher for every chunk of wvw levels similar to how pvp has their own finishers. Wvw unique finishers A++ idea!
And about lootsticks – I should of specified get appropriate gear/build, pve ppl seem to love rotation and knowing when to use their skills; I like to think they’d pick it up in wvw. Guardians are great for zerg for the amount of utility and team support they bring (etc you already know this). I’d much rather see someone new to wvw come on a guard (in the very least in ptv as a bare minimum) than come on their ranger.

Requiring 2000 wvw ranks is fine in my opinion. If you are having trouble getting there get all the boosters, every single one, get a base guardian and spam that lootstick. I completed my diamond box this morning, it took me 17 hours, for the majority of it I had all the boosters (less the firework ones) I gained 67 ranks http://prntscr.com/fh4yt8 it’s not typical because I would not normally spend 17 hours straight in wvw – but i wanted to make sure I got all my tickets this week because I’m working/away the rest of the week. It would certainly not be unreasonable to obtain 100 ranks stretched over the course of a week. Boosters make a large difference, just take advantage of them.
Perhaps we should make a thread on different methods to increase wvw rank efficiently to help out people who are struggling to obtain 2k rank.
I’m overjoyed! Finally some legendary backpieces!
Except, you can be the worst PvP’er ever and still earn it far faster than this WvW backpiece.
yeah it’s a bit insane. I’m 4k+ and it took me 17 hours to finish diamond
Seeing as I have a high wvw rank it’s going to take someone who has a lower wvw rank much longer to finish every week. Because of the large influx of people into wvw in T1 it wasn’t viable to map hop to chase the outnumbered buff for the bonus 5 pips.
My pve friend who is trying to get into wvw has less than 400 wvw ranks and spent the entire time with me, I don’t get the feeling he feels excited to play 3+ hours a night if he wants to get the maximum number of tickets per week.
tldr: PvP and wvw backpieces took significantly shorter time periods to obtain
I’m going to assume that somebody at Anet has “tested” the War Score and pip system using the current matchups.
Would it be possible to post the data for the current matchups in terms of of the new scoring system as well as average pips/player for each server?
I’m curious how the NA T3 matchup would look like under the new system. Currently the winner of this match has won all but one skirmish.
This is an A++ suggestion.
Did I say they should be hated behind the rank? No I was specifically referring to the last portion of that quote to why should higher ranked WvW players get more pips, which means getting tickets faster not gating the Backpiece behind High WvW Rank. Reading such a wonderful thing
You quoted the entire thing, it was hard to tell. I was just giving my opinion on how I don’t think high wvw rank should give you more pips for equivalent contributions between someone 5k+ vs someone ~1k. Higher pvp rank after 80 certainly didn’t give more pips in pvp, and if we didn’t want to look at that measurement in pvp, being legendary or plat really didn’t improve your score gain either! Anyway just my 2cents.
In Pvp nothing mattered besides winning or losing to get more pips getting top stats gave more pips, pvp could be acquired only during season, pvp didn’t need the gift of fortune but the PvE one did, Fractal back could be acquired whenever, Fractals required Mastery to unlock Vendor so Mastery did matter to even get it, and each reward system per those were specific to the game mode so yeah…….. why shouldn’t WvW have it’s own stipulations??
I’m assuming you’re referring to putting the backpiece behind a wvw rank wall and not the discussion on wvw ranks influencing pip gain? The pvp and pve legendary backpieces are easy to get. I would not consider what you mentioned to be remotely challenging stipulations on getting those backpieces. How much of the wvw population is over 3k wvw ranks? Most people in wvw are not even plat. But say the wvw legendary backpiece required you have 5k wvw ranks. A lot of potential people would be deterred from pursuing that because 5k wvw ranks is simply a huge time investment.
I was just agreeing with a previous poster though that the wvw rank required to get it should be ~2k or so (and before anyone asks I have significant more rank than this).
Hopefully Anet doesn’t make it too crazy to keep people interested in it ^.^

I took a break from wvw and have been getting back into it lately, yes I agree that incentive based on tagging up can and will create a problem, even more off a problem if it significantly increases your pip gain. I can see this being abused large scale. Everyone wants rewards, and they want them now.
Is there going to be a weekly cap on pips like there are on magnetite shards? If there’s a weekly cap and it’s obtainable in a reasonable amount of time spent in wvw, that would help alleviate the issue. Otherwise people will just grind wvw incessantly and many will take every step to forward themselves through tag abuse.
I can’t imagine it being over 2k, both the pve and pvp backpieces just required a little time and are literally achievable by anyone who wants them. For a lot of players I can see them struggling to get to 2k, I see a lot of players under this – it takes a considerable amount of time to grind ranks, not everyone is playing 8hrs/day in a constantly active wvw. There’s so much down time lately because of the population and coverage gaps, so getting levels in off time will be harsh.
I’m excited for wvw stuff!!!
I am a little concerned about this though:
“Pips are earned every tick and are awarded based on the following criteria:
[…]
Your WvW rank.
Whether you’re commanding a squad with at least five people in it.”
So there are benefits to commanding a squad with at least 5 ppl in it, sounds like a way to get maps flooded with tags of mini squads to give “tags” extra pip benefits.
Also for the pve and pvp legendary backpieces mastery points/pvp rank did not give an advantage; I don’t see why wvw rank should give people an advantage here. I can’t see why higher wvw rank should give the 4k person more pips than say the level 200 person if they’re both putting forth the same effort and performing equally.
It has 2 capes!
I’m going to be fabulous!
Maybe LFG for wvw would be useful on smaller servers? I can see it’s usefulness for eotm, but I don’t recall seeing any eotm lfgs the few times I’ve actually looked at that tab. I’m not sure, I can’t see any large server using it – there’s already a player established means of forming squads and I don’t see this changing any time soon.
And yes wvw can be unwelcoming to new wvw players, but it’s like any other game mode – most don’t want to hold your hand to help you get better (it’s even harder when you’re 1 person to keep track of in a group of 25+), it’s nice when people come in knowing with an idea of what the wvw meta is and what is expected of your class. I feel as though wvw is much less elitist now than it was a few years ago. Anyway no one wants to deal with the pug rally bots/die on first push. Like pve there are many guilds in wvw that you can join that are welcoming to beginners who will help you with wvw builds etc. If you’re having an issue with dying or the like, I would suggest recording your game play and rewatching it, you are your own best critic.
That said, I’m really excited for the new wvw rewards and the influx of players this is going to bring to wvw!
I think it was more of a wvw problem and not pvp conquest. You almost never saw epi in conquest because it’s hard to land and there are other utility skills that you’d rather have
I’m curious, what is your over all win:loss ratio?
I had a lot of matches that were +3, +4 for a while. But at the same time if I had 1 loss it would be like -25; and this was decently well into the season, not the beginning. Seeing this is demoralizing, it translates into a wasted hour and a half +. I wont really go into the lack of population, sometimes terrible matchmaking (like why put 2 high rank duo ques against all lower rated solo ques? is this fun for either side?) etc issues since we all know those are present.
If you lose I think yes you should lose rating, but 1 loss should not be the equivalent of 5+ games. If you do lets say 4 games per hour, because ques are ~7min, games I’m giving 10 min or so, you lose over an hour of progress with 1 loss. >.> It ends up feeling like a waste of time and does not encourage high participation.
I had this problem to, but in wvw. Cannot tell you how irritating it was in bay. Repeat jumping around trying to get out religiously dropped me through the map.
Are we seriously talking about how to flip a camp?
Really?
Everyone is a different skill level! They came to ask for help, and offering a hand is the nice thing to do!
It’s not too hard to do on ele. You can do it much cleaner than my examples – but just los/pull to you, cc+aoe blind of necessary, then aoe dps

Give the gift of random kindness this holiday season and spread joy to random strangers via pixel presents! ^.^
Please fix out lag ANET! EB in T1 lag is terrible! Lag on your pretty new bls is TERRIBLE during the Oasis event (which we all /love/)

I was very pessimistic and overwhelmed by the amount of content when HoT first came out – seeing that I needed 400 hero points per toon I wanted to fully unlock was really overwhelming and was a huge barrier for me to get over, as I only really wvw and spvped before HoT. But I have been converted! I gave HoT a solid week, decided to focus on one thing at a time (maximizing mastries atm – not done but I’ve gotten a good pace for it!). Lowering the amount of hero points made a big difference for me. I’ve really been enjoying the meta events and the sense of achievement I get by finishing mastery levels. Helping out my guilds in the mean time upgrade their guild halls is a nice thing to have in the background to.
So in the end after giving it a good chance I am happy that I bought the expansion and just didn’t quit after my initial reaction!

Just so we have an idea of where we stand votes are as follows:
REMINDER 0=NO FUN AT ALL, 10=MOST FUN I’VE EVER HAD!
(score given) – (number of votes)
0 – 25
1 – 12
2 – 21
3 – 20
4 – 13
5 – 7
6 – 6
7 – 8
8 – 18
9 – 15
10 – 11
if you gave multiple numbers rating scenery, music etc and I could not decipher a clear rating → you got skipped
Personal thoughts:
-I love the aztec/myan (whatever you want to call it!) feeling temple area, it’s beautiful!
-I regret having so many alts, no I do not want to grind hero points for them all to unlock their specialization. Sometimes I want to play an ele that LOOKS different, is a different race etc → looks like I won’t be doing that if I want to utilize tempest. Some grind is okay, I have over 8k hours in game, I will work for what I want if it is reasonable – but unlocking multiple characters is not. People do not have the TIME to fully unlock specializations on multiple toons, specializations is just a fraction of the new content…. The amount of experience required to unlock higher mastery levels…..I don’t think I need to say more about that for those who have experienced it.
My rating: 3/10
Comments that stood out:
-beautiful
-game is grindy, Grind of Thorns
-HoT is like a second job if you want to get anywhere in it
- tedious
- not good for solo players

I have full faith in the power of legendary defenders
Watch as they ……wait…..where are my legendary defenders?
bump bump bump ^.^
Condi ele is underrated. Everyone thinks they are either sh#t or another class can do it better i.e. “oh u wannabe necro”. Just because we don’t have access to poison without sigil help or transfer conditions, people think we are trash. Compared to other condi classes we have loads of condi removal from weapon skills/traits and utilities.
I roam daily and face people with all kinds of builds and 95% of the time I win. I would only lose to those burst mesmers and occasional thief (got c#cky). What I’m trying to say is is that condi ele is sick and you guys need to play it to see what it’s like or shut the f#ck up.
- and it’s also good in small scale fights too. The burst may be slightly slow, but it is extremely effective. The conditions stacking up are a beautiful sight to see from an ele.
+1 Dahir
Condi ele <3
@Haters: Good luck keeping up with us. We do it all without cheese invisibility.
@Valento: Try condi ele for wvw roaming, it is rofl stomps. Just make sure to pick a good build ^.^
anet moving their aquatic benevolence from GM to a minor trait lol…..maybe they want us to be healers instead of op damage dealers narrows eyes
Why is celestial nerf listed as a reason that could be awesome? Celestial and healing power etc etc. So many builds are not celestial. Including any sort of healing power in your build is not necessary. I sense someone is a celestial ele.
ER should be left the way it is currently. It’s a great heal for eles and fits many builds allowing us to not spec into water for access to better condi cleanse. The pros of this heal is obviously the condition removal on a low cd; risks to using it are that it is easy to interrupt due to a long cast time. So although it has a short CD it is important for the elementalist using it to be responsible and aware, so that when they cast it is less likely to be interrupted. I think the risk:benefit is fair as it is at the moment.
I do not see any need for it to become a cantrip, as this would just cripple other builds who are no cantrip centered. Not all elementalist builds spec into water or arcana, some do not include access to soothing mist or regen, for these sorts of builds ER is the best heal in my opinion. Short cd + condi removal. Also really great for glassy specs as 1-2 hits can take large chunks out of your health, making access to a low cd heal important.
I also do not see the benefit in it being an instant cast if it would still remove 8 condis – ER is great for when you’re alone and running away from multiple people in wvw or pvp. Everyone behind you using all their ccs and condis to slow/stop you ->use ER and watch as conditions are cleared as you go.
If it were a cantrip then I imagine CD would be increased. Also to get the added boons the OP mentioned, you would still NEED to spec into water atunement. If CD were increased and the number of conditions it cleared were reduced to 2-3, then it would seem that to make this heal viable you would need to spec into water. Also to offset the theoretical reduced condi clear you would be required to trait for more condi clear or take more condi clear in your skill bar.
Thinking about it all – I don’t see why anyone would want ER to become a cantrip, I think they’ll be making a big mistake if they do that.
Edit:
Additionally there are a number of runes that give you an effect on heal (ex. rune of air gives swiftness for 5 sec, aristocracy 3 stacks of might etc. use wiki if you want to look up all the runes that give you boons, effects w/e) many of which are on 10 sec CD. Untraited our other heals are on 25 sec CDs. ER is the most logical choice for individuals who chose these sorts of runes and want to take the most advantage of their effects. Most other professions have more than 1 choice for short cd heal.

SKILL POINTS:
You are converting preexisting skill points to mystic forge materials.
-What specific materials are you providing us with?
-When you phased out glory, will you have a similar phase out with skill points? So that individuals with THOUSANDS of skill points can decide the best course of action with them prior to you changing them to materials which we might not want or need.
-I and so many others have paid gold and skill points to unlock traits on MANY of our alts; how are you dealing with this? How are we going to be compensated? Will these traits be “unlocked” in their equivalent after the patch? Or will we need to unlock them again?
-How do we get superior siege?
-It seems like we need hero points for build flexibility and the only way to get them is to get to 80 and “hero” (skill point) challenges in pve maps. I am sure there are many wvw players as well as individuals who have multiple characters (not just 2 or 3, but 10+ alts). To stay competitive access to build flexibility is important. It seems like we are being forced to engage in pve to open up build flexibility. To achieve maximum build flexibility am I forced to pve for hero points? Or will there be an alternative method of obtaining maximum build flexibility through wvw methods? Currently if I want to unlock all my traits I simply pay the gold and skill points (not a problem as I have heaps of skill point scrolls). I and many others are perfectly okay with this, and we do NOT want to spend hours of pve doing all the little tasks to open up our builds (especially with multiple alts, it would be incredibly repetitive, and mind-numbingly boring). Great that you have a “free” way of opening up traits for newer players or those that enjoy pve, but there’s no need to punish individuals with multiple alts or those that have been playing a long time with more resources.
@Dahir – good video I enjoyed your fights
@Mohagi – using evasive arcana just to reapply a condi is potentially wasting a lifesaving dodge
@CallousEye – if you feel short on condi removal switch your heal to ether renewal
I really enjoy condi ele, so glad to see someone else who does to! I personally like perplexity runes because confusion does ridiculous amounts of damage on a pretty low cd. I think signets are great for applying condi, low cd + 1 is a short cd stunbreak
