Is this for real?? ARE WE GETTING TROLLED??
I get the IDEA behind this but those of us who roam and havok get very little rank compared to those who ktrain or are in fight guilds. I spend HOURS a day in wvw but often don’t rank up more than once.
You’re just gonna have to come join me for raids sometime….
But seriously, I get the frustration… I split my time between two accounts, so I’ll never have the same rank as the people who just play one. Still…. I am glad that they are recognizing and rewarding those who are dedicated to this game mode.
We all remember it. At one point in time we were brand new to WvW. Perhaps we had played PvP in this game or another, but it was still a new experience when we pressed that button and found ourselves in the mist wars for the first time. Since that time, many of us have become battled veterans, and perhaps have lost a little of our sympathy for the plight of the WvW newb. With the upcoming update and promise of rewards, it is anticipated that there will be an influx of new players. Some will be returning, some entering for the first time. How those new players are received and treated will make a big difference in whether or not they will choose to stay. They are going to have a hard enough time with their PvE builds and gear. We as a community have the opportunity to welcome and train these players, and show them WHY we love this game mode so much. WvW has been seeing a constant attrition as more people quit the game and move on (yeah, yeah I know, bad balance, condis, DBL, glicko, reasons). But a good inundation of new players, even bad ones, can spice things up and bring some new life into a stagnating game mode.
TL;DR BE NICE TO THE NEW PEOPLE.
I have seen a lot of discussion and confusion about the date of the re-links this month. I was assuming it would be alongside the reset this Friday the 28th, but haven’t actually seen anything concrete to prove this. And after the disaster of last reset, I figured I would ask for a definite date to put the speculation to rest.
I think you may be on to something, but have it all backward. Instead of having free refuge passes for the outmanned servers, you should have “mercenary” passes so that people in stale matchups could get a chance at fun fights. That way certain guilds wouldn’t end up in EotM in total boredom. I know this wouldn’t give you the “out” you wanted, but perhaps the mercenaries you get might help you to find your fighting spirit again.
I didn’t see them claiming anything, but a small group of Anet tags were sighted running around in WvW this afternoon. And the people who had not already gotten the hidden achievement were very grateful. So thanks!
Anet claimed keep eh? Wait til you go inside….
That’s cause it was the YB Anet dev…..
Happened all last week from SBI as well.
Wait, wait WHAT?!! I only know of one dev that plays on SBI, and she barely EVER goes into WvW! I have seen her claim S camp once… and I promptly went to the BL it was on to tell her how much I loved her. We gotta encourage Anet people to play our game mode!! (ILY VIOLET! Play with us moar! <3)
As for the YB dev, he’s awesome. He was the one that I got my achievement from on both accounts!! He also is a gold rank… which means that he ACTUALLY PLAYS WVW. Could you imagine what WvW would be like if all Anet people were gold or higher rank??
(I totally get the frustration of seeing an Anet tag on your garri when you’re getting beaten really bad… the same guy claimed our hills and they had it T3 for like a day and a half with that tag staring back at us stubbornly. And I totally get that the real problem isn’t that the tag is there, but that you don’t have someone on your server also slapping an Anet tag on enemy structures.)
Honestly I think the best option here is to move to a “guest” server. Chances are, rng will screw you over anyway. Might as well hand over your fate completely. For the right person who doesn’t have as much concern over server loyalty, “guest” servers can be a great solution.
1. You don’t have to care about what happens to the score/placement of your server.
2. Every 2 months you get reshuffled and get a chance at a fresh new set of proble-err fun!
3. There’s a good chance you’ll never get stuck with BG, MAG and somehow YB. (just pray you don’t roll TC) So you’re more likely to be in one of the lower tiers.
4. It is a MUCH cheaper alternative. You could move three times already and not spend as much as you would for one of those high pop servers.
5. There’s always room, and usually a few guilds who are bandwagoning onto the “host” server who you can join up with.
6. You get to be on a server that people are slowly forgetting about….. rip…
I think some people (including myself) might be envious of YB’s situation… Server is locked, no link means that you are in no danger of getting bandwagoned, no obnoxious guilds coming in and queueing up your EBG for 12 hours or more a day. And with everyone from T1 looking for a new buggy to ride, you all may just sail right through this and stay comfortably in the tier that a lot of people consider a good place to be, without the frustration of getting locked into the DBL PvDing all night.
Just saying…
Oooo wonder if they’ll get it fixed before reset. IT’S LIKE 2014 AGAIN BIOZ!!
…. except meteor shower is all nerfed against siege… RIP.
Guys…
This was a tame change, it could have very easily been keep Lords aswell or worse,
Standardized condition stacks/duration.
Indeed! Keep lords are still fair game!
Pandas, thank you for writing this up! This would be fantastic on so many levels.
+1
5 gold says that the OP plays a bear/bow ranger……
And if he was, even if on teamspeak and following orders, I’m sure he’d be put in a trash party and not revived if downed.
If you read earlier in the thread, you’ll see that I agree teamspeak is necessary. But so is acting as a team. Which is something I’ll bet 5 gold you don’t know how to do.
Rofl ouch!! I’m not sure where the hostility is coming from! My statement was not a personal attack on anyone, and was meant as a joke (bear/bow ranger generally doesn’t do much to contribute to zerg fights lols). I am sorry though that people are treated that way where you are from. SBI is a pug friendly server, or has been… we have a lot of new xfers. But it’s pretty common practice to revive anyone who’s down, regardless of class or even if they are in squad. I honestly don’t have the time to check who it is that I’m reviving in order to discriminate lol.
As for being a team player… well… I’m an aurashare healbot ele. It’s kinda all I do. I am constantly monitoring the health of the players around me. Team play is actually one of my favorite parts of the game!

But in all seriousness, I believe strongly in the power of communication and the great advantage of TS. It’s an easy application to download, and if you download Overwolf (an Anet approved overlay application) you can have your TS, web browser, and all kinds of fun stuff accessible in game, without the need to minimize. If your poor computer can’t handle both GW2 and TS, then you are an individual with amazing determination to be playing WvW with the lag you must be experiencing!
I often advertise TS in map chat, letting people running with us know where to join up for voice coms. I will admit, I am RIDICULOUSLY spoiled, since my guild is really chill, respectful, and tends to be on the quiet side, and our commander is one of the best I’ve ever run with (not a shameless plug at all, haha).
A GOOD commander won’t stay in one place. He/she will move from side to side, back and forth. Often it’s really hard to follow these movements exactly without hearing the call outs. Also, there are times that the commander will call for CCs, big bombs, heals/waters. And if the rest of the team is on point, they’ll be calling things out as well. Being able to HEAR all these things around you gives you a HUGE advantage.
I totally understand that there are some disgusting commanders out there. Trust me, I KNOW. So just don’t join their TS. But if you don’t want to be in TS, don’t be upset if you’re not treated like the special snowflake that you are.
OHHH BABY THOSE LEATHER AND CLOTH NODES!!!!!!!!! NOMNOMNOM
Some other interesting trivia about wvw life on SBI is that a sizable chunk of the pugglet population isn’t as useful as it could be. There’s an very high amount of medium armour per capita in the pug zergs, and a strangely high number of people that just like to stand in towers ‘scouting’ (not building or using seige, not calling out numbers or enemies usually until its too late anyway, etc etc) at all times. Between our group’s moves and alts I’ve seen several servers, but I have to say the wvw ecosystem on SBI is a bit strange really.
SBI is the number one server for “Linking” call outs. No information, no numbers or server name or guild group or anything. Just a link to a place on the map. We often spend five minutes in chat trying to coerce information out of these players, and at times have lost things just due to the lack of communication.
I always called it a “community oriented” server, but that’s just a fancy way of saying Pugpopulace.
Edit: But this thread isn’t about SBI, it’s about YB being locked and not even paired. In all honesty, I’ve been scratching my head about that as well. But I have to say I’m glad you all are in our tier. I have a lot of respect for YB and the guilds on there, especially the late NA guilds like Unit and Tkx. They aren’t afraid of fighting and are really skilled as well. We’d be endlessly PvDing if not for them! Thanks for keeping it fun!

WvW last night was interesting with this bug…. More than once I had a heart attack when we were capping a tower and suddenly there were red circles everywhere. It wasn’t a consistent bug either. Half the time we had white circles, then they’d go back to being red. It seemed that structures exasperated the problem, but even that wasn’t consistent.
I love how everyone is like “GIT GUD DOOD. U DUN NO WAT 2 DO IF I KILZ UR DRIVER. L2P”
There is a reason that there are commanders/drivers in WvW and it’s not just so we can all ktrain/mindlessly zerg. Even the best fight teams have a driver. The reason for this is that the team needs a reference point to where to gather for regroups and directional callouts, and where to cast waters/fires/CCs/etc. It is good to have backup commanders and they can usually take over fairly quickly, but in a good fight, that moment of chaos that pinsniping creates can be all it takes to wipe the group.
Obviously you can play your game however you want. If you get off by pinsniping, then good luck with that. Personally, I think it’s a cheap tactic. But that’s just my opinion.

Like Gaile mentioned, devs play on a lot of different worlds and move around frequently and that includes the WvW team. However, the WvW team also plays together on a different random world once a week.
Well since SBI is the new bandwagon server, I invite the dev team to come and join us for this week. It’s what all the cool kids are doing!
No. The less clutter the better. This game is already puking rainbows, and I have no need for some new extra shiny badge or number above my head. If you want to show off – use WvW titles, they are rather grindy and not many people have them.
I don’t want clutter. All I was hoping for was a title. I have some of the WvW titles and they’re okay. (70 yaks away from yakslapper, why are there always 5 people walking them??) I even have the old “Mist Runner” title. But a title like “(Bronze/Silver/Gold/etc.) Mist Hero” would be pretty cool. Like you said, the game is already puking rainbows, why not puke some our way? :P
Lvl 54? What is your rank?
I’m pretty sure he meant the mastery level, as it’s what we display on PvE now.
Thanks Jeknar. That is what I meant. Honestly I forgot what it was called. I wouldn’t have any mastery level if it weren’t for the hours grinding AB for 3 sets of durability runes when they came out. That PvE stuff is confusing.
(edited by Ann Jay.2950)
Honestly it’s just a matter of wanting to be as cool as the PvE and PvP kids. I play WvW rather exclusively, and while other’s are hopping around LA with their diamond and legendary ranks for PvP, and others are sporting their mastery level 5000000 in PvE, I’m lookin’ like a total newb with my PvP emerald, PvE mastery level 54 character. But I’ve spent days on end in WvW. My rank may not be the most impressive, but it took a lot of work to get it. It would be so cool to get a title to display in normal game play. As of now, the only way for others to see your WvW rank, is if they are on an opposing server in WvW. That’s great and all, but It’d be fun to have some bragging rights. Amirite?
Edited, good catch Balthazzarr.

Our immediate focus, besides scoring, was to bring the Desert Borderlands map back, in the mixed borderland setup, that the community recently voted for.
Now that both maps are available to players, at all times, we can begin deciding if we want bloodlust to become a feature in Desert.
Might I suggest what I think is an easy fix (I’m not a programmer, it might be really hard, I don’t know).
What if, instead of having bloodlust obtained through capturing runes, it is obtained though securing the mercenaries in the Eternal Battlegrounds (i.e. the frogs, dredge and ogres). There are three of them, they are in neutral areas, they can be flipped by one person easily. They can be “shut down” by opposing servers, and they naturally decap over time, creating more opportunities to steal/secure. It would bring more interest to an area that is usually just a path to run though, and all of those areas are great for fights (good chokes, obstacles, etc.) so it might encourage more action there as well. EBG also tends to be a more populated map and I think will profit from having one more feature, however small it may be.
Just a thought.
Ok first up, Please do not turn threads into matchup threads, they get very quickly locked.
Next.
IMHO, many well meaning posters suggest what their enemy can do to be “competitive”. It is not up to the enemy to match your playstyles.
In a PvP enabled zone you only control the actions of yourself.
If YOU , yes YOU, suck all the fun out of it for your enemy, they will stop playing. Pv Nobody is not as fun for many as PvP. If you are in fact winning 20 vs 50, maybe field 12.
If you are in fact more organised, charge in recklessly now and then. If the enemy wins even once a night the chances of them logging in tomorrow increases.
Maybe Run uplevel minion master nights, maybe field 30 pistol engis and let the comms take a break. Maybe do not use meta builds now and then, whatever you can stomach that keeps players in the game helps the game.
DO WHATEVER you can to keep the game fun. If you just grind the enemy into the dirt, I would expect them to just pve for the 4 weeks it will take to shake loose even more guilds and players from the game.
good luck, try to enjoy the game and allow your enemy to do so if you can. There is a lot players can yet do to save what was once a terrific game mode.
SO VERY MUCH THIS. Yesterday afternoon I did MAP COMPLETION (a little part of my soul shriveled up and died). Last night looked into WvW and then logged off and told myself that I was quitting the game. There’s no point. It’s not fun. It’s miserable. I get the glicko thing, but you know Anet isn’t getting their numbers from this week anyway (if they used current numbers for their linking, DH and EB would never have been put together).
I challenge the tryhard server to take this person’s advice the rest of this week. It’s only a few days. See if you can crack a smile on those serious faces of yours. Find out what this “fun” thing is all about. Do something ridiculous. Raid naked. SOMETHING. There’s a chance you might even like it.
Well since it’s just wishful thinking, I’d actually be really happy if DH and Ebay stayed together. Obviously since we have less wvw population combined than pretty much all the other servers by themselves, we’d need to be paired with another much larger server. Whoever that would be, I don’t really care. But I’ve really come to love my DH friends. We were thrown together in this T4 hell, and have bonded over the constant kitten and pillaging of our structures and camps. With our populations being what they are, we would contribute almost nothing separately, while together we might actually be able to flip a tower or two! Dbay! Ehmry Haven! GO!
It’s true, Ehmry is the place to be! Where else do you have a constant skirmish RIGHT OUTSIDE SPAWN?!? You don’t even have to run anywhere. There is ALWAYS something to flip, or everything. And you will learn cool tactics like having your small pug group sacrifice themselves at the front gate of your stolen, waypointed keep over and over until the 5 other people break through watergate!
But in all seriousness. You will never find cooler people than the ones that fight day after day, night after night despite the terrible odds and the awful matchups. They are the true WvW heroes.
<3 Ehmry Bae forever. <3

I predict that another third of players will leave when the desert borderlands come back.
(So far I haven’t been wrong with any predictions – just saying
)
Well clearly the majority of WvW community prefers easy content that they can just faceroll thru with zergs. but i’m saying bring desert maps back along side alpine ones and use desert maps as roamer maps. Design it that way. make them smaller maybe, but break up the zerg mentality. That way roamers have a map and Zergs have a map, Id also assume to be on top of the leaders board taking 1 – 2roamer maps would help out a little.
Every map is a roamer map in T4. Come on down and join the hype! :P
Was trying to defend you nerds today at your spawn. Telling SF to back off and that DH has been getting it hard enough today (saw SBI wiping you guys every where you tried to go). I was going tonic form and trying to be passive with some of you guys but people kept attacking me <-<. Was pretty frigging funny when 20+ of you tried to roll me near Speldan however and I managed to escape
.
You’re taking it too seriously though, Jelly. Most people are aware of how crappy the situation in T4 is and those of us that care enough to enjoy ourselves in WvW have moved elsewhere.
It’s the people that make the server, not the name of the server. If you’re not having fun, stop playing or move somewhere that you will have fun. I’ve been hopping servers since I started playing and I’ve met literally hundreds of great people because I don’t root myself to a single foundation. I go where the action is, I keep in contact with the friends I’ve made and I make new ones where I go.
Don’t force yourself to endure the frustration. Move elsewhere or be at peace with what you’ve got.
This is a rather arrogant/ignorant statement. Not everyone plays this game like you do. Some have loyalties to servers or guilds or friends. Some don’t have the cash/gold to move. Just because I choose to stay on my server does not mean that I am not allowed to be upset about the current match up. I paid real money for this game, I continue to support it by purchasing gems for gem store goodies on a regular basis. But I do not feel like I should have to continue paying in order to maintain a playable atmosphere in the one game mode that I enjoy the most.
The blame for this whole mess does not lie on the players who remain on these two servers. Anet was the one that essentially murdered both Darkhaven and Ehmry Bay by putting them in this match up. They took two proud, well established servers who were in the middle tiers and placed them in last place to be beat up week after week. I don’t expect you to understand how devastating this is to a community. Most server hoppers don’t understand about communities anyway. A lot of people did take your advice. Guilds that had been the backbones of the servers left, and some disbanded. Those remaining got to watch their servers fall apart over a matter of a couple months. I think the few people who are still WvWing on those servers have more than enough reason to kitten about it. This wasn’t the natural collapse of a server, but instead the swift death brought on by terrible calculations of the game lords.Actually, community is very important to me. That’s exactly why I left. Because the people I cared about on DH had moved to other servers or stopped playing. Why should I stay where my favorite people aren’t? So I followed some of them to other servers.
I understand that not everyone has the money to transfer but I was trying to be supportive by suggesting that there is still hope to enjoy the game if you let go of your inhibitions. Of course you’re allowed to be upset but refusing to transfer is like refusing to socialize outside of your clique. Have your friends move with you, meet new friends where you go and enjoy the game more as a result.
But I’ll stop trying to convince you since the tone of your first response already suggested to me that your mind was set. Good luck with things, though!
I hear what you’re saying, and I understand. It is people and friends that make up the best part of a social game such as this. I have had friends transfer, friends stay, and a large amount of them just quit the game entirely. I love my server and the few people still on it. And don’t think I could play anywhere else. Ehmry has been in last place before, and we clawed our way back into the mid tiers, only to be dumped right back where we started with no say in the matter. I think that’s what makes me the maddest about this whole thing. Sorry if I vented a little of that frustration on you.
I find it a great source of fun! So much champion bags!
I can’t wait for next week! Will probably build some trebs to spawn camp ebg! Shame all dh wants to do is hide in spawn!Span camping a graveyard is pretty boring. Nonetheless, I’m amused at your PvE attitude. Perhaps you would like to redirect your enthusiasm to a more fitting map called Edge of the Mists. When you again are placed into a viable match up (should I say “IF”?) you might find yourself more at home in that environment.
On the original topic, I feel bad for SBI. T4 is hell. But perhaps nothing is as hellish as being at the very bottom of T4. Anet essentially destroyed DH and Ebay. And at this point I don’t even have a suggestion for fixing this kittenfest. Anyone up for Overwatch? Minecraft? Club Penguin? Hello Kitty? Tetris?
Actually I think its dh/ebay that should go play in EoTM if they havn’t already.
“It too hard they got too many, gonna let sbi put a wp in our ebg keep ;-( "
You’re adorable. But you lack common logic. You think DH/Ebay should go play EoTM, but if the few of us gave up completely, everything would stay green, and you’d miss out on even more of your precious champ bags.

1. How do you feel overall about reward tracks?
Ecstatic!
2. What are your thoughts on the rate at which you gain participation?
Seemed right on par with PvE map rates to me, which is good.
3. How do you feel about the rate you earn reward track points?
I had no complaints. It seemed great to me.
4. Overall, what are your impressions about the types of reward tracks we have?
They’re perfect. It gives the hardcore WvW player a chance to get goodies that PvPers and PvEers have better access to. I’m ridiculously happy about them.
5. Are there any other reward tracks you would really like to see?
More WvW rewards? I know there’s one for armor, but what about a mist weapon track reward?
May I just say that I’m so overjoyed that WvW is finally getting some love. I am seeing old faces around the battleground again and new ones as well. There’s a new sense of excitement and I think I speak for a lot of us when I say “Thank you!” for listening to the community and trying to make our gaming experience great.
They’re probably correct that most WvW players also do some PvE, not necessarily by choice though. Most players I know do PvE to support their WvW. If the game was structured where you could be self sufficient playing only WvW, you’d have a lot fewer players farming DT and SW.
Pretty much this right here. WvW players are FORCED to PvE to support their WvW play style.
As far as this week goes . . . . I haven’t logged on since the very disappointing reset. And as long as that horrible golem buff exploit exists, it’s going to be a chore to play WvW and try to keep up the ppt throughout the week. Thanks so much Anet.
Hey OP, I think you’ve gotten enough grief for your lazy approach to “WvW”, so I won’t add any more. But I do think you need to leave Ehmry Bay as soon as you can. It’s a terrible fit for your play style and your personality. Wishing you luck at finding your dream server.

Tornado could use a little something else.
Maybe reflecting projectiles, or making it a cantrip so it can be affected by several traits.
Maybe allow attunement swapping while under this form. Maybe even have skills that change with the attunement. Each attunement could have three skills: An autoattack, one targeted, and one PBAoE:
- Fire – “Firenado” form, the tornado looks more orange and deals burning on contact.
- Fireball.
- Flame Blast
- Ring of Fire
- Water – “Twisting Blizzard” form, the tornado looks bluish, and deals chilled on contact.
- Ice Shards
- Freezing Gust
- Frozen Burst
- Air – “Twister” form, the tornado looks like it does not, and pushes on contact.
- Chain Lightning
- Lightning Strike
- Windborne Speed
- “Dust Devil” for, the torndo looks more like a Dust Mite Twister, deals bleeding on contact.
- Rock Shards.
- Dust Devil
- Ring of Earth.
I would also like for all professions to have healing, 4 utilities and elite for each of their available skill types. That means for elementalists there’s missing arcane healing, and missing elite cantrip, arcane and signet.
I actually love everything about this idea.
If this type of event is successful, we may look to do more events like this in the future where for short periods of time the rules of WvW are changed to different rules, scoring and scenarios to help both keep the game fresh, as well as to change up the experience and try new fun things for WvW.
Anet is the kid with the magnifier glass and we’re all the ants. Fun indeed. This is just a half-hearted pretension of care for the WvW population. Like a crappy skin that’s given a new effect and presented as a brand new thing.
Yes, bugged indeed in Ehmry Bay. I couldn’t find her anywhere.
Would have been nice to complete for my Shiverpeaks event daily.
