Hi guys. First of all, I want to say that Anet’s art team is amazing. My number one favorite area in the game is the Living Season 2: Hidden Arcana, where the player explores Glint's lair, which is made of beautiful iridescent crystalline architecture. I turned off my HUD and took an ungodly number of screenshots to play through that mission.
The Herald’s ground icon showing upkeep facets is a good idea that is liked by many. However, I think the current art used for it looks like a cartoonish UI placeholder. The iridescence is lovely, but it looks like it came straight out of a flashplayer game. GW2 created a fantastic “painterly aesthetic” that has been stuck to consistently for three years, so it seems odd to have such a jarring departure from that artistic style used in a key feature of a new profession.
I propose updating the ground icon to make even more sense lorewise: base it on the crystal assets created for Hidden Arcana and increase the transparency.
The icon itself could be subtle and translucent, with the facet icons that toggle on/off glowing brightly for visibility. As it stands currently, the facet icons are not visible or useful enough to justify it as part of the UI and not painterly or lore-appropriate enough to justify it as an artistic touch (my opinion, which I’m sure many disagree with).
That’s my two cents!
