The fact that you still have to do 3 in a row to level up(something I have never achieved due to instances kicking people out/resetting) in a fair few goes is so disappointing. It’s like the creation of fractals was literally just done to waste the time of those who don’t have hours to play.
The fact you have to do three in a row (silly) without someone leaving is the main issue. I’m still level 1 due to this. Finding the patience to try again is increasingly tough.
Ive done this for 4 hours off and on and just can’t even get to the presents, possibly the most un-fun addition to the game so far these timed “special” jumping events. And by special I mean “really bad” .
I have the issue atm that I’m going to have to server transfer to a server with a high WvWvW pop JUST to get 100% map completion. It’s ridiculous. I should not have to do this. I shouldn’t have to set foot in WvWvW to get 100% map completion.
Scaling dungeons down (both in difficulty AND rewards) would be the best thing this game could do.
Being able to run a dungeon with 2 or 3 people, ah I’d play the game SO much more.
Just putting together my thoughts on GW2’s dungeons and Fractuals.
I want to love the dungeons in GW2 (As I love the open world events/PvE stuff and enjoy that part of the game SO much), but I just can’t for a number of reasons.
1/ The main flaw of the dungeons is imho they are just a mess. Half the time I’ve played them a lot of the fights involve auto attacking and almost going afk the mechanics are way too simple . Comparing the boss fight mechanics to those found in other MMO’s they really lack. The bosses also have WAY too much health making these simple encounters drag out more. It’s sleep inducing.
2/ The few bosses that are challenging are the opposite end of the spectrum: too challenging. Not because of good mechanics just due to parts that endlessly one shot and that in a PUG are just a waste of time to attempt, forcing people to do the same “easy” routes again and again. A balance NEEDS to be struck. Make the boss mechanics complex over the bosses just having a huge health pool or the ability to destroy a group instantly.
3/ Fix the ability to skip trash / bosses. They should not be skippable or easy to get past (like dragging the spider queen out of her room). Its amazing how lazy people are when it comes to not killing mobs etc..
4/ We need a dungeon finder. So badly. Its almost impossible to find a group otherwise.
5/ Fractuals: Dividing the playerbase among fractual levels so it’s even more divided? Making it part of the monthly goals? Worst decisions in the game thus far. I can’t believe this was considered a good idea. Its hard enough to get a group, let alone get a group for long enough to level up without someone crashing/disconnecting. There is SO much wrong with the Fractuals it’s ridiculous.
6/ Make dungeons scalable. For those of us who don’t have time to get a group together scaled down versions of the dungeons would be SO helpful. Grouping up with 1 or 2 others doing a dungeon with scaled mobs and challenges (with less rewards of course) would just be the best feature this game could add.
I appreciate lots of people enjoy the dungeons but for me their the least fun I’ve had in instances in an MMO. A shame as the journey of getting to 80 was arguably the best.
The only thing that’s puzzling me, at this point, is the challenge-seekers who are soundly against difficulty levels because they don’t want people lacking their particular skill being able to enjoy part of the event.
Not really. I’m not against it. Just don’t see the point of it.
If you create easy/hard modes for example. People will still complain that hard mode is too hard and it’s unfair they cannot get the better reward because they cannot do it.
It’s an event puzzle. Why should rewards be any better for the hard mode, which people that are good at jumping puzzles do because it satisfies their demand for a challenge. Have a title, like “Wonderous Jumper” for the winter winderland puzzle or “Clockwork Master” for the Mad Kings Clocktower if you complete it in hard mode. Considering that titles are actually one of the few visible means of showing you actually did something, it ought to beat any reward that can be gained elsewhere.
I totally agree with this. I find the jumping puzzles tricky. I dont expect a reward I just want to SEE the puzzle to the end and see all aspects of an event etc. An easy mode, medium mode, hard mode should (imho) be part of all aspects of the game. Simple.
Any aspect of fun is removed by other people being present and there being a time limit. Very disappointing this is just a frustrating mess.
The time limit they give you is actually quite generous. Out of the 200 runs farming this thing. Health draining away is a non issue.
If you’re having trouble with people jumping in your way, just hang back a little or if you’re good – over take them. This puzzle is very forgiving time wise compared to the clock tower.
Anet even made THREE. Yes. THREE starting paths so that the mob of people wouldn’t be so blobbed together to prevent seeing where you are going.
You have to give Anet credit where it is due.
As you can, people being in your way is a non issue as demonstrated in the video.
The Clocktower was even worse I agree, but the fact is (after watching your video) most people are not as good as jumping as you. I need to start immediately as 90% of the time I’m caught by the snowflakes beforehand and the two times ive made it to the presents the first row has fallen as I have jumped at it. For me the time limit is insanely tight I need to stop and plan jumps.
Adding the time limit and having us wait around for everyone else to win or fail was a stupid idea at the Helloween event and on a jumping puzzle like this (thats MUCH longer) it’s even more ridiculous. I can’t credit them for thinking any of the implementation of this puzzle was actually good. Because it isn’t.

I’ve only been able to do one Fractual myself due to lack of a proper LFG tool. For people who don’t have the time to sit in Lions Arch spamming chat for hours this entire system is completely broken: same goes for the dungeons really. A automatic queue and porting system is needed.
