But my opinion IS that you guys are being irrational (until proven otherwise in-game). I don’t see the problem here. :V
You’re missing my point.
I think you’re missing mine. :V
My opinion is that, so far (with maybe two story missions left to go), I like Trahearne, and that you guys are being irrational about him. I intended “proven otherwise” to be taken as “I’ll admit I was naive” if I turn out to hate his guts soon, not that preference can be “proven”.
:V
Considering that you provided no evidence in support of your assertions and actually resorted to an ad hominen attack on your opponents by saying that they must be “irrational” for taking the position they chose, and then tried to beat a hasty retreat by using the “I don’t expect an internet debate like this to end, since neither side ever seems willing to end it, so I’m not sure why I’m still replying,” you have all but affirmed that your position is untenable and that you have lost the debate.
Wait, what? I haven’t called her irrational in any way for her argument. My opinion on this Trahearne issue is that people are being irrational about their hate for him, since I don’t see what people are talking about. “Irrational” is not a bad term in this sense. It’s just my opinion that I feel like people are overreacting to him. :V Plus, how can I give proof of my personal opinion? Guess I can try.
So far it seems that he’s just been the underdog since he was introduced into the story. He hasn’t had much time to shine since it was relatively late into the story when he came in, and he’s handled himself well up to this point (which, like I said, is with maybe two missions left in the personal story for me). I feel like he’s doing the best he can, for being a scholar thrown (willingly, yes) into the position of Marshal for the combined armies of The Pact. I just think people are being too hard on him as a character. Sure, the voice acting can be iffy, but if that’s what annoys some people about him, I’d say that’s a rather trivial point to debate. Just turn off the sound and imagine the lines in Morgan Freeman’s voice, for all it matters. :P
I realize that that’s not even a reason most people give, but I have heard it said.
I’m just insulted that you think I was calling people irrational out of spite. :c I just feel that they’re overreacting to Trahearne, not calling them irrational folks in general. :c I’ve had a good time playing with the people in this game, much more so than any other MMO I’ve played thus far. The community is healthy and still gets along quite nicely! We all have our opinions, but that doesn’t keep me from getting to know someone in my guild or over map chat or something.
Sorry that I said anything. I just wanted to state my opinion. :c

I guess I’ll have to “wait and see” like I did with Lori, but I’m not holding my breath that you people are being entirely rational about this whole thing. :V
Believe it or not, it’s possible to have differences of opinion without either side being irrational. That’s the whole point of an opinion as opposed to a fact.

I have a bad feeling that this is going to have a “Lori effect” for me.
Meaning that, while I was still catching up on The Walking Dead, people on Facebook and such kept saying how much they hate Lori and wished she would die. And once I finished the first half of season three, I still didn’t understand.
I have the same feeling so far about this Trahearne business. People hating on him left and right, and I’m personally really enjoying him in-game. He’s not an iron-fisted general or anything like that, but I don’t see why that’s a problem.

Here’s my Norn ranger, Havkaar, posing for us in front of the Wolf Lodge with his bow. He’s only level 14, but I love the heritage armor on him, and the color scheme is awesome in my not-so-humble opinion. :P
And then we have my trusty Arctodus, Rin. He’s my absolute favorite pet thus far. A wolf AND a bear? Sign me the heck up! See? Havkaar’s even dancing for joy in the background.
Here’s one of my favorite, no helm, and in full T2 human cultural armor (I couldn’t believe I could afford it, and it’s one of my favorite skins in the game at this moment.) Also, it was taken in front of Kormir’s statue, the best goddess, obviously.
Also, another one with the helm and the T1-skinned cultural greatsword. i love it
I do like that name. The surname seems just a tad generic, but I shouldn’t say anything, ‘cause I didn’t want a surname on my character. :P 9.99999/10 from me!
Folkvar (He would be a Norn guardian if I ever got the chance to switch him; the name literally means “guardian of the people”. I’ve been Folkvar for Norn-like races and Dwarves in games for as long as I can remember, and I usually play the tanky character.))
Havkaar (Norn Ranger. Not really sure where I was going with that name, but I liked how it sounded. :P)
I dunno why, I just tend to shy away from surnames. Probably because I like short and sweet names ingame, and then add them later for roleplay if I feel like it.
My female human has dark red hair. :P
Mine does too, simply because it seems to fit a mesmer.
I’ve never really liked white hair on humans. Seems very out of place.
I mean, you’re free to do what you want, and I won’t be bothered by it ingame, but the concept of it just annoys me, especially when paired with a fifteen-year-old face. :V
Nah, I love humans, too. I just want to see every race’s personal story, so that’s the only reason I’m keeping myself from having five humans and nothing else.
Probably because the human race in GW2 is the underdog for once, and they stand for a lot of what I stand for, so I just kinda relate to them better.
(though the only race I have yet to enjoy is Charr. I can’t make one look good, and even if I could, they have the same problem as a lot of horde races in WoW do; they are constantly hunched over.)
Norn are my second favorite simply because of their architecture, their hospitable and spiritual yet competitive and warlike nature, the area they live in (seriously, snowy mountains and pine forests are probably my favorite ecosystem in the world), and they remind me of large dwarves, who were my favorite race in WoW before I switched to GW2.
…that was quite the tangent.
What I’m trying to say is just to find some reason to love a race, and roll with it. Don’t be afraid of making lots of the same race; I’ll most likely end up doing just that somewhere along the line.
Eh, everyone has their own opinions. I have absolutely loved the personal storyline thus far, and every time I get within two levels of the next chapter, I drop whatever I’m doing and go play it. Sure, it’s not the most efficient way to play (supposedly the exp scales with level so I could technically save all the personal story events until late-game when I need a boost), but I just enjoy the story too much and really like seeing where it goes.
Aw man. I’m almost to 80, but I have a terrible memory when it comes to quotes!
But a lot of these I do remember, and I have laughed out loud on so many occasions XD
ANet, you guys are brilliant.
GUH. I can’t read this yet. I just got to and am currently leveling to partake in the Battle at Fort Trinity.
Must.
Resist.
Reading.

Nah. I love low-level events where I’m the only one there. Gives me a chance to practice with a new weapon combo I’ve been wanting to try out, or just enjoy the already-fantastic combat in general. Plus, events with single veteran mobs or something can be extremely rewarding, personally, because not only are they challenging, but ANet gives us the tools to take stuff down at a higher level or power than our character.
There are events with Champion mobs, like the Maw, but those shouldn’t be touched. You’re not supposed to solo everything the game has to offer, otherwise this would be a single player game with some multiplayer elements. :V
a nice way to go about this is remove the different tiered gathering tools, and just replace them by normal tools that have charges, and instead of depending on the quality of the gathering tool to decide whether or not you will get materials from the node, make it depend on your crafting level that requires/uses this type of raw material.
That is far from nice. That would force anyone who wants to gather to be a crafter. The effect would be driving down the value of crafted items even further(more supply). The cost of the raw materials would also increase since some people will refuse to craft regardless, this means fewer people gathering and fewer supplies.
Every character will now have to be a lv400 Chef as well otherwise they won’t be able to harvest plants for the potential Unidentified Dyes.
Edit: Oh and you’ve also just replaced one problem with another with similar issues. “Do I have the right tool?” becomes “Do I have the right professions on this character?”. Even worse is that while you can buy gathering tools from many merchants, master crafters are relatively rare.
^this is what I thought of that post. That’s a horrible idea! So instead of “wasting” a measly amount of silver to get better nodes, you completely inhibit a character’s gathering ability, and limit gathering to those who can do something with the materials.
No thank you. :V
