Do you think connection matters that much when you play from Argentina? And they don’t complain because they are sure there is no way in hell to change it, so they play it like that, and they get bored, and they leave. Happens too often.
Basically, it’s like playing a game of prediction instead of a game of reaction. Not hard to guess which one is GW2. A player with less ms has far more chances and gadgets to win than a player with delay, who cannot use his interruptions and evades accurately. Is this ever, ever going to be fixed? Can we get some servers for sPvP? Because if your only concern is players from the US and then im afraid in short most LA players would have left this game.
Thief here. I can backstab, use smoke field, wait 3 seconds (in which I have all 3 dodges for ranged attacks) and go stealthy again for another backstab without using any slot skill. Every backstab hits for 6k. While im in stealth, I got regen and regeneration from Shadow’s Grandmaster trait, for a total of 253 hp/seg. It’s a slow fighting method, but it guarantees that I will not be hit except for aoe attacks and snares that I can counter with the Acrobatics Master trait that removes both cripple and weakness every ten seconds, a time vastly inferior to the cd of most disables. Finnally, I use Stealth to strip 2 boons from my foe, get 3 of my own, backstab him with petrify and spam 2 for a while.
Stealth is the only thing in-game without a counter. And if you are thinking aoe skills and stuns, consider that dodging does not remove stealth either. Why would I want ANet to nerf a skill I use and abuse over and over? I think anyone could answer that question.

I disagree with pretty much everything.
Allowing players to host their own servers opens the door to cheating and hacks, so it’ll never happen.
Hosting servers across the world is also more complicated than just buying a server and sticking it in a country. You’ll also need to hire staff to maintain that server, which may mean you need to hire someone in that specific country where you haven’t an official presence. Is it worth it to pay an extra $20k-$30k a year for one person’s salary just to maintain one server in Oceania? And you probably at least two people, in case one person is sick or quits suddenly. And then there’s the data side of things. I don’t know how ANet have their player databases stored, but considering the fact that they couldn’t even get cross-region guesting working between the US and Europe, adding additional server regions would just be tripling or quadrupling the amount of maintenance and complexity.
Don’t get me wrong; as someone from Australia, I’d love to see more servers across the world, but as someone who works in the IT industry I know lots of reasons why it just wouldn’t be feasible or economically sensible to do so.
I agree my solutions may not be at all feasible. But as Oro said just before me, they invested heavely in a fast-paced combat almost 1/4 of their population can’t enjoy because of the delay, so that makes not much sense either. What would be a smart solution to this problem?
How do you see your MS in GW2 from their server?
You don’t, just use ping from the cmd on the gw2 server.
In Aion you could just type /ping, how do you do this in GW2 I’ve seen lots of threads asking for a /ping command so just curious.
Not in this game, not now. It is astounding that they haven’t added that command from the start, but the fact that it still isn’t on…
Well that’s what I was wondering, how you got an accurate MS from the game ^^ I mean I can ping a random server but I don’t think it is a good determining factor as far as knowing your ping in GW2. I’m a computer tech, but admittedly terrible with the networking side :P I like game ping because you can see if the lag is web based or computer based usually.
Using /ping would be the same as the cmd command, truly, as long as it is the server you are on. By the way, how much would a couple of low capacity servers cost, for example, some regional servers for pvp?
I would guess upwards of $500 for a server($2000+ for less laggy ones). I think MMO servers are actually a series of servers possibly a series even for just 1 “game server”. But a networking person would probably have a better idea :P
Well what the hell, then it IS a worthy investment. Why don’t they do it, why don’t they promote the game in other countries, they would get INDEED more winnings at the end. My entire guild has left the game because of the delay in PvP If they had stayed, how many people would they have invited into it?
Why the hell don’t they do it?!?!
MMO servers are much higher priced I imagine.. Players can buy tournament(?) time or space and host on special servers using Gems “soon”. At least thats what i think they said, I’d have to see the post again I don’t sPvP much. Also other country’s have various laws and expenses as far as using servers and playing the game. Even beyond that, some aspects of the game are not vetted for other country’s so a country could be offended by somethings name or look in game (see cantha). I “think” there is a Chinese beta, but different servers. Also people connecting to a US server from far away would experience epic lag based on location. It is possible all that could happen one day though, never know.
That won’t fix the delay at all. The custom arenas are still hosted in the servers, and the laws vetting games are applied in only a few countries, and certainly not the ones where gamers are focused. They won’t let people host their games since they are afraid the data would be used for private servers. Well, they ought to know: It won’t stop them at all. Allowing players to host the game for sPvP would improve the quality of the game to a seriously high degree, since A LOT, and I mean, A LOT of players don’t want to play because of the delay. There are only two solutions for this issue: Allowing players to host, or adding servers only for pvp across the world. It’s foolish from their part, since the gains from the people that couls play this game compared to the loss from paying the servers, it’s a lot. And people would see that they give a kitten about them.

If you have less than 50ms you might want to save a few minutes of your life, or spare them if you want to know the conditions why a lot of people you meet in-game plays a game of prediction instead of Guild Wars 2, a game of reaction.
First of all, evading. Even if it seems instant the effect doesn’t kick until 0.5 seconds (half the dodge) so this gives us an ecuation to consider when avoiding skills: Delay+Reaction=Dodge delay. In the most generous scenario, this becomes 0.7. Which means that you cannot react with dodge to pretty much 3/4 of all the skills of the game, and if you do, you are pretty good.
Secondly… a list of the skills that someone with 200ms cannot use like they were intended.
Thief:
Disabling Shot
Infiltrator Arrow (when moving and targeting at max range, distance gets reduced a bit)
Shadow Return
Flanking Strike
Pistol Whip
Shadow Shot (no instant blinding = no skill cancelling)
Death Blossom
Shadow Strike
Headshot (can cancel 1seg casts)
Black Powder (no instant blinding)
Withdraw
Roll for Initiative
Scorpion Wire (no instant knockdown)
Dagger Storm
Shadow Escape
Smoke Bomb
Cheapshot
Blinding Powder
Signet of Shadows
This in one class only, without mentioning traits.
Basically, any skill that interrupts or dodges becomes, not useless, but replaced by skills not based on reaction, and that makes for a different game. Players with in-game delay have less chance to win against players without delay. As obvious at it seems, it doesn’t answer why wasn’t this fixed. And it won’t. This will not change. Even if it takes a couple of regional pvp servers linked to the pve servers, it won’t change. Because ANet doesn’t care about what you want, and you best be dealing with it instead of wasting your time posting on the forums.
