Thank you for the Festival

I couldn’t agree more. The Festival of the Four Winds is everything I love about Guild Wars 2, while having a charm that is uniquely its own.

I love the map. I love the crazy haphazard bamboo architecture clinging improbably to the soaring cliffs. I love to see waterwheels and boxy little houses piled on top of each other. I love the climbing. I love the jumping. I love the ZOOM. I love catching a peek at a crystal glimmering on a distant ledge and wondering how I’ll get there. I love the colourful awnings. I love the lanterns and the little paper boats. I love to see the sky full of billowing sails. I love the surprise. I love the whimsy. I’m sad to see this place go, because there’s nothing else like it, but at the same time it reminds me why I love this game so much.

The moment Guild Wars 2 truly won a place in my heart was the first time I found a vast sprawling cavern complex full of ruins, beauty, bosses, rewards and a jumping puzzle simply by following an idle whim to follow a stream back to its source. When that tiny cave mouth opened into a whole world I hadn’t even guessed at, I knew I had found a game that understood the joys of exploration. The first time I explored the Labyrinthine cliffs, many months ago, I had that same feeling. I still do. After two festivals, many hours and tons of falling damage, I am still discovering new things about this place. I hope I have the opportunity to discover many more. So thank-you. Thank-you for the festival.

Canach quest buggy for me. Anybody else?

It worked fine after I relogged a couple of times. Went smoothly after that. Hurray!

You’re actually up to fighting Canach? I envy you. No, my problem is that the mine detector flat out doesn’t work for me. I know, yes, thank-you, use the detector pulse thing, pay attention to the icon that pops up over the mine and use the corresponding skill on the mine detector. I CAN parse text, and I DID speak to the NPC at the beginning of the dungeon.

Problem is, that doesn’t work. I can, sometimes, manage to turn one mine green after one or two tries, and then it never works again until I go out and come back in, resetting my laughably minute progress. I use the detector, take note of the icon, use the corresponding skill, inch forward to the edge of the boom-circle, use it again, use it again, shuffle around so I’m facing it from a different angle, use it again, use it again, use it again, use it again, use it again, use it again, use it again, use it again, use it again, use it again, you get the idea.

I even tried cycling through the other disarming skills to try and make it explode, which is what is meant to happen if use the wrong one, but it didn’t even register that. Even Murphy’s Law fails in the face of it’s brokenness. The one constant of the universe.

I just want to thank ANET for responding and for promising to try and find a way to reward us. I know it won’t be easy and I know it isn’t something they had to do, and I imagine this whole weekend has been a lot of hard work what with all the bugs that needed urgent fixes. So however frustrated I am for the way things worked out, kudos to you guys for trying to make it right.

I have to say I was enjoying the finale event with the Ancient Karka right up until I DC’d on the lagbridge between Camp Karka and the mainland. The reinforcements portions were gruelling, but everyone was working together and having fun. There was some nice variety, with the ‘kill this obstacle’ sections and the bit where we had to run arund collecting rocks to make the geysers explode. But I got up early for this and I was getting tired.

When the lag started getting bad I started to worry. When I started running in place on the lagbridge I worried even more. Then I got disconnected. I sighed and logged back in … and the overflow server I was on had already finished the event. And I had no recourse to claim my reward for the one-time unrepeatable event that I had spent hours on. I spent half a gold waypointing back to LA and then getting on the ship back to the islands in the vain hope that I would land back on the overflow where the event was still going. Nothing.

I’ve been disconnected and missed the reward for events before, but even bosses like the Shadow Behemoth and the Shatterer are at least repeatable. It’s disappointing and frustrating but at least you can try again on another day. Here I feel like I missed out on something really special. I guess I’ll watch it on YouTube to see how it ended, but that won’t change the fact that I missed out. On the accomplishment, on the loot, on whatever cutscene or final payoff came at the end, and on the FUN.

tl:dr: love your game! QQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQ

Was it worth it?

Might have been worth it if I hadn’t DC’d and then not been able to get back to the overflow where the event was still going. I was enjoying myself up to that point. Now I’m wishing I had never set my alarm to do this event.

Where EXACTLY do I need to be for Phase 3?

I would also like a red response, since the wiki says Southsun Cove but the sticky says all three one-time events take place starting from Lion’s Arch. I don’t want to miss out ! Especially when I got up at the crack of dawn especially for this.

Twitter links back to the forums, all they’ve said is that they’re going to push a fix through ‘this evening (GMT)’.

Can we please get an update on when the fix is expected and just what content will still be available after phase 2 starts? The last update said we need to complete the event chain leading up to Noll before 12 noon North American Pacific Time. Does that include Noll himself and all the steps after?

Is the intention to fix the Noll bug and then go live with phase 2, closing the window of opportunity to complete stage 1, or to keep the latter half of the investigation chain open after 12 noon when phase 2 goes live?

It’s now two hours until that pointless time limit, I have been up all night waiting in case a fix came through earlier since the deadline is at the crack of dawn, Brisbane time, and at this point I can see that I might as well have just set an alarm, but the further along you get into a certain course of action, the more invested you become, despite mounting evidence that you should cut your losses and move on. If the fix materialises less than hour before the deadline, I shall become vexed. If the deadline is extended without a fix in sight, further delaying my sleep, I shall become irate. I’m only glad I didn’t invite a friend to witness this embarrassment.

It doesn’t, but you can just swim up to the ship and whack it with your underwater weapons, so there’s that.

I am also having this problem. It’s disheartening to see that ArenaNet apparently isn’t even aware of the actual problem so their fix probably won’t even address the problem. And playing on another character until the fix comes through is only a short term solution since this quest is where all personal stories converge.

Has anyone who has had this problem found that it fixes itself if you restart the personal story step? I’m going to try that. It might actually yield some useful information.
