That is one potential issue as things stabilize. Even if you have the same matchup each week, if you also have the same color, you’re always in the same starting place on the maps relative to each other and it does make it harder to get the other POI’s and Vista’s in other parts of the maps.
This brings up a whole separate issue that the maps are too stagnant in that they are identical across borderlands. It would be nice if there were a bit more variety and you had different starting points.
But again, this is a separate issue from whom you are facing each week and the impact that has on the scores.
Your basically saying any match up is fine. If you apply that to real world, every sunday would you enjoy seeing the same 2 teams compete…..every week? Its human nature to want some variety is all.
Well this isn’t really an apples to apples comparison. In football, there’s a champion crowned at the end where it matters whether the Giants beat the Cowboys and Redskins and whether the Redskins beat the Eagles, etc.
In football it actually matters because its a competition above and beyond the 60- minutes of the game itself.
In GW2 none of that exists. There is no trophy at the end. No champion declared. Nothing. We do have Tiers which for some reason people interpret as a scoreboard when it was never designed nor intended to be one.
So again, why does it matter in GW2? (I understand the fact that there is no ‘trophy’ at the end is a conversation and of itself but until that changes, my question remains).
You do realize people want a middle ground between the 2 extremes right? Your only using each extreme end of the spectrum to complain about the complaining.
Some good suggestions so far has been the #1 of a lower tier swap with the #3 of a higher tier to try to avoid the same match ups for 3 weeks in a row, or at the very least do color swaps so there is SOME variety, and to help with 100% world completion for people who dont want to swap servers.
There are many ways to try to help the situation out without going back to 300k to 50k to 10K scores.
Explain to me the fundamental reason why it even matters which server you’re up against?
The goal is for your server to either Win or Lose and have fun while doing it. The matching system is supposed to create an opportunity to give each server as reasonable a chance as possible for both of those things.
If you want middle ground between the two extremes. I think we already have it. Scores aren’t blow outs anymore. You’re getting the most reasonable chance at playing against enemies that will give you a good fight without one team ROFL-stomping the others (to an extent).
I’m missing something.

Oh my god! Match ups are so broken! Look at the scores.! Every match is a blow-out! When is Arena going to fix this screwed up matching system so we don’t have scores that are blow-outs 300k v 50k v 10k. WvW stinks until they can get it right.
Now:
Oh my god! Match ups are so broken! We’re facing the same servers over and over again! And even if you move up or down a tier one week, they are just bumped back to where they were when they stomp or get stomped in the other Tier! I want some variety already, this is getting stale.
So which is it? Do you want scores and swings wildly week over week where you either blow out your opponents or get blown out? Or do you want stability where you actually have a reasonable battle with an “even” chance to win or lose?
I have never seen more than a few GOONS making up a small portion of the Maguuma force, so I still do not know why people are still talking about you guys as if you are some giant all encompassing zerg.
Haha! I get it! The reason no one ever seems to see GOON’s on Maguuma is because they are all on other servers playing spoiler!

two DB (thief and necro) and one EB (mesmer) actually teamed up to take me down on the point where you jump into the waterfall.
What you may not have seen is 10 minutes earlier where the one person from EB ROFLstomped the 2 DB people so they decided to let it go by the time you wandered by. Or 10 minutes after they were done playing with you where the 2 DB guys smashed the EB guy.
You already have elected commanders.
There can only be so many visible on that map at any one time. From what I understand it, the ones that are visible are the ones with the most members in their squad. Joining a commander’s squad = voting for them.
Don’t like one guy, leave his squad and join someone else’s.
Whomever has the most, are the ones that are visibile.
Our Oceanics are also decent…..
Our Euro is pretty strong …
This by far is what Ehmry Bay needs to work on the most. We can usually keep it competitive in US prime or even take control. Its the rest of the day that gets us into trouble and sets us up for a tough slog to try and recover from each night when we get back into US primetime facing a completely swept and fortified map.
I love fighting Ehmry Bay, but they always have a lot of people crying on the forums about why they ain’t winning and how they are still the better server. Keep making me laugh guys.
To all the respectable Ehmry Bay players: I’m looking forward to the great fights i know are going to happen the rest of this week :P
If you go back and read any of the previous match-up threads, you’ll find the same few people spouting most of the negativity, excuses, etc. I don’t know if their account names they post here on match what they use in game or on our server forums but very few of them (if any) are recognizable elsewhere from what I’ve seen.

Ehmry Bay has much to be proud of based on where we’ve been as a server and how far we’ve come. We still have a long way to go however. I personally care less about what tier we’re fighting in as long as the fights are fun — this week has certainly fit that bill thus far. I would hope that no one lets the opinions of individual posters take away from what has been one of the best weekends yet for this game. We’ll see how things translate back to normal work week when prime time can’t be extended longer due to having to get up early for work.
So far looks like similar score from last week.
Ehmry: 23,064
Northern Shiverpeaks: 11,272
Sorrow’s Furnace: 8,945
And just like last week, Ehmry seems to have been able to hold on overnight. We’ll see if the pattern also holds true that NSP logs on this morning and sweeps the map until late morning when other people start getting back online.
The gap to Sorrow’s is a bit less than last week so hopefully they decide to stay in the fight.
All the people that are saying they are happy the orbs are gone because the buff was too unbalanced. THAT is why they were worth fighting for. The points round robin of taking keeps is FAR outweighed by “night capping” imbalances, so even if you were off-prime and another server had a massive zerg, you would still want to at least protect the orb even if you lost everything else. Honestly there was no way you were going to protect everything else anyway so the score would end up lopsided like we’ve seen over and over again across multiple tiers.
The orbs were something worthwhile to fight over. I agree their loss will make the borderlands less critical in the grand scheme of things unless you are in a well balanced match-up with prime/off prime population equality.
And for those of you saying, just wait until they come back. How long have we been waiting for other ‘fixes’? I don’t expect them back anytime soon given A-nets track record thus far when it comes to WvW.
NSP clearly has the numbers online right now for sure. Barely anyone from EB online to try and stop them. Should make for an interesting week. Especially if you throw in Hurricane Sandy creating log-in problems all week with people in the East potentially losing power.
There’s a bunch of Ehmry Bay bots in the Ehmry Bay Borderlands lake, on the north side if anyone needs some free badges.
As an Ehmry Bay player I will say that even though Anvil Rock and Borlis Pass may not have enough population to go around and cover multiple maps, wherever they do happen to be, fun fights ensue. They both can field tenacious fighting groups and can take whatever they set their mind on regardless of what we have on the field. They may not be able to keep it when there’s multiple attacks going on at once but where they do fight its a lot of fun!
Ignore the score and come out and play. Hopefully it won’t be a boring week despite the lopsided score so far.
Didn’t they remove the despawn timer in one of the betas? Or was that a bug and the despawn timer is now back?
And also, are you sure it wasn’t lightning damage from not owning the quaggan camps in the lake killing it?
Add this to people logging in to clog queues, watching map and chat, feeding chat to get people to go to wrong targets, people with commander books leading the mindless pug zerg off to middle of no where, etc.
I guess all is fair in war until it isn’t.
It appears it was lag after all….logged in and they are now in my inventory.
If you try to buy pinenuts in bulk from Scholar Tholin in Timberline Falls, it takes your Karma but nothing appears in your inventory.
At first I thought I may have just mis-clicked so tried again. It definately is taking Karma each click. Hopefully its not just server lag and I all of a sudden have 50 of them appear in my inventory — guess I’ll have Pesto coming out of my ears if that happens.
One of the great things about GW2 is how they have striven to be different. You compare it to WoW as the baseline of what a gear progression game should be like. If you want a gear progession oriented game, you should go play a gear progression oriented game.
Asking them to make GW2 like something else will only lead to a watered down “me to” of a game. I applaud what A-net is trying to do here and not just be another WoW.
Especially considering there is no monthly subscription you are making an apples to oranges comparison.
