Hey!
Just reached lvl80 with my Mesmer. I’d like to experiment a bit and I wanna hear some self-finders around here or any pro with a good mind flexibility outside the usual builds.
It’s like a personal challenge/test for me, so, here are the rules:
1. No Chrono
2. Greatsword as one of the two weapons
3. Inspiration as one of the specs
4. A bit of resilience (knight set?)
5. I’d like something like ILL/INS/CHA
Any possible variant accepted, but help me to stay close to those guidelines.
Main modes: PvE (dungeons, probably fractals), unranked PvP.
Thanks in advance. ????
Random disconnected here too, can’t play basically.
Patch pls
Hey!
Long story short: I’ve a Ranger LB/GS and i’m havin’ fun with it. I’d really like to get some druid skills and “morph” into a good support / healer build when needed.
Do I really need to full different sets in order to do this or can I just switch with ease? Assume that i can afford to get some extoic and that I’m mostly interested in PvE + a bunch of Arena as a DPS.
Advices on build/ equip?
Thanks!
Hey, I’m looking for a social/friendly oriented guild and you sound awesome
I’m a retrurning player, not that pro, but a few high level chars and the will to actually get into the endgame with patience and people willing to let me wathc a bit of a cutscene the first time without insulting ahahah
Sometimes I disappear, but for work / other stuff and come back, so I can’t play all days 8 hours a day, so to say and (as a tendence) I don’t use vocal chat since I go with my mobile most of the time. But in any other case, I’m friendly and ready to help.
May I join?
Hey folks!
I’m returning into the game. I’m already in the forum’s ele guild and another couple of groups, but what I aim to is a guild to be immersed in.
Just to be clear, here are some points:
- I don’t play everyday. Sometimes I play 6 hours everyday for 5 days, then I may disappear a bit, it depends on work and stuff.
- I’d really like to enjoy dungeons outside speedrunning them. I’ve only had the chance to celar a couple of paths here and there, but what I want is a deeper experience and I’d really like to find a young guild with social / friendly purposes as a staple.
- if there’s any RP, it’s good.
If not, no problems, it would be just a plus.
- I’ve never been (extensively) into fractals and never been into raids. While I’m a social/self found kinda player, I’d really like a social / have fun oriented guild to experiment builds and enjoy the endgame.
- I like pvp arenas, even if I’m not a pro-pvp player, but since i’m fond with some mobas, that’s the thing.
So: social/friendly oriented, friendly approach to progress, group pvp when in need of blood, possibly active during night. RP is a plus.
Anyone?
Hey! I’ll try to answer “in general”, with a focus on GW, even if this is true for almost every game I play.
There are many viable builds, but it depends a lot on the meaning you give to the “viable” word
Viable in terms of high level of play/elitist/pro approach means “optimal”: they’re synonyms, since you won’t get the chance to access pre-made rosters/groups unless you show the optimal solutions for your class (being it equip/skills etc etc).
Viable in terms of “everyone else” means “everything that’s not counter-intuitive” or particularly fragile in terms of alternatives/timing.
In this case (as I do) you have just to know your class, tweak a lot and develop your own build that is it at least “useful” in dungeons and group content.
In open PvE, everything is “viable”. The absence of the “trinity” in this game lets you do almost every combination and the ease of change “on the fly” in GW2 is what I like the most, since there are zones in which you’ll have to use some of your istinct and class knowledge to “optimize” your class capabilities to the current environment: you’ll be able to play through it anyway, but you’d do it with pain if you just ignore a skill that might turn a zone/combat in “easy mode”.
So: focusing a bit on equipment, I see GW2 being the most flexible game in the market nowadays, in terms of ease of “self made” (outside PoE, which is a completely different game, tho).
WoW has no more than 1 viable build per class (in terms of high level of play) and some classes are not viable at all (alternating).
In FFXIV, which is one of my favourite games of all times, there is an actual build for every class: it’s not a restriction, that’s how the game’s class system is made. You can play every class in you character and it’s plenty of jobs, but a CLASS plays the same way on every character you’ll meet (outside the actual need of being able to play it properly and adapt that same build to the same dungeons, which is a completely different pair of hands).
So, there is this huge distinction, easily overlooked: class-play vs class-build.
In GW2 you can play your class in many ways and build it in that exact same number of ways… The gameplay is DPS focused, so it’s more about how you use what you built.
In WoW you can build a class in a SINGLE way (per spec) to be useful to any existent roster, but you have to be proactive in gameplay.
In FFXIV there’s no “building” concept (outside cross-class skills, which are not class-defining), but there’s a huge “how to play” mindset to understand.
If you look for “self mades all around” you should try games based on complex skill trees like Path of Exile, but that can be odd if you like the “standard” mmo approach.
Cheers!
Hi!
It seems like this is a common issue: after character select, during loading screen, an error occurs and the client shuts.
What’s happening?
Thanks!
Hey!
While I’m capping and dressing my mains, I’m looking for another alt and the only “archetype” I’d like to try is tank/support.
Would you like to advice a well balanced approach/build? The main idea is being melee, but if mid-ranged is viable I’d take it as an alternative.
What I’d like to do is give some side-healing and buffs/direct support while dying for the country. xD
My main game mode is PvE Dungeons, but I like some casual PvP and WvW.
Thanks for your time and patience!!!
Hey!
I’d like to share a build I’m workin’ on for PvE content. This is just an alternative to what is my main “aim” with this char (S/D – Valkyrie Ai/Fi/Ea), but I tried a bit and seems to deliver a nice gaming experience.
I’ve almost nothing in the equip to boost it, but I’m planning to get some of the loot stuff I gathered from PvPing.
Here are the core concepts:
- fun to play;
- full support with the ability to deliver some CC;
- Staff.
I’m still experimenting with the skills, they’re not the ultimate choice, but I’ll give a brief explenation:
- Heal Skill: Signet of Restoration. With the Earth Perk to keep passives rolling is a nice catch.
- Arcane Shield: by now is mandatory. You’re squishy and that saves life.
- Arcane Power: this is catchy, kinda hidden rotation perk. This is there for damage spike needed when the party is in full “control” or there’s no actual need for overhealing. jump into air or fire, deal some damage, reverse back to water to get boons and repeat.
- Glyph of Elemental Power: CC.
- Glyph of Elementals: 1 more guy is good.
Here’s the link: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vFAQFAWhcMonhNOwoB0RMsBYVPYDWDmGQAYCQfgLwZE
Thanks for watching. Advices are welcome, but avoid “go berserk” xD
Hey!
I’d apply
Casual Noob, so don’t count me for serious stuff or you’re gonna lose xD
- Elyhandre
- Tester/Student (I’m noob, but I like to experiment)
- Game mode(s): PvE, WvW, casual PvP.
- Piken Square
- more into social than anything else, surprisingly enjoying casual PvPing, but I feel squishy as hell.
My objective/Build focus is: Valkyrie Set, Air/Fire/Earth. Currently at lvl 61.
Cheers!
Hi!
I’ve tried the Revenant with the boon trial and It will probably be my go to for the lvl boost or at least the target of a lot of tome of knowledges xD
This game let me even like the PvP (which I usually hate), so it can be an option in the future.
Thing is: being “in meta or not”, I’ll mainly play demon/assassin for PvE. Since I don’t want to focus on too many things about equipment and I’d like to avoid the usual zerk, I need some advices on the equip I may get.
I’d focus on Power + Vitality/Thoughness + Ferocity/Precision, since I want a reliable dps with some survivability in PvP too.
Thoughness over vitality? Precision over ferocity? And, more important, Why?
Remember that I can easily stick to exotic and I prefer going with low cost alternatives which can be easily bought or crafted, since this is not my main right now and I don’t have enough time to farm ascended or other “hard to get” pieces.
Aaaand… I like the “dual sword” for roleplay/appearence reasons, but I guess Sword/Axe is a bit better in terms of DPS, isn’kitten
And what about secondary equip? Hammer or Staff?
Thanks a lot!
Hi!
As i said, I usually (and by “usually” I refer to my general MMOs experience, I don’t know if I’ll be compelled to invest time in other game modes in GW2) play PvE-roaming + dungeons. I don’t know if a good dungeon build can be useful in fractals too.
Anyway, for this specific build, I refer to PvE content.
Thanks!
In the end this game let’s you tweak your build even in the endgame and I love it for this. Hope to hit lvl 80 soon (i’m 75 right now). xD
Hey!
Prologue: I know the “meta” says “Zerk!”, but let’s assume we don’t care about the main meta.
I’d really like to tailor a “shortbow-condi build”. It sounds dumb, but I see potential in terms of fun and probably some PvE support.
The idea is to use skills like “Protect me” to grant your self the ability to get the enemy’s back easily while applying the impairing effects of the shortbow.
I’m focusing on signets to speed up (hunt and wild right now), quickening Zephyr, but I’d put in protect me to enhance the mentioned strategy.
For this purpose, I probably should focus on condition damage and duration to max out the idea.
Any experiences? It would be a nice alternative to my main longbow-Crit and a possible (when I’ll get to 80) Druid-support + staff (which is probably more fun in groups).
Ideas?
Hey! Thanks!
So, Karma merchants have reliable pieces of equips for PvE gaming even for endgame content?
Hey!
Simple as it gets: should I buy gear? I’m a lvl 70 ranger and I want to understand if buying from the TP is actually an option. It seems like it does, reading some guides, but what i don’t get is: is it worth to invest money on stuff that I’ll easily replace with good drops in the near futures?
What is your experience? Should I wait or should I buy a full zerk gear and kick a..es around?
Thanks!
Hey!
New player here too… They said everything needed, I just add the “usual” but still efficient advice: take your time. Every single activity rewards you with XPs. You won’t regret some extra time spent exploring, talking, gathering.
Hey!
It’s a free game. The Investments needed to get a reasonable amount of comfort is relatively low (something Like a couple of saturdays out).
The have to gain something: the opposite way is the monthly fee, but believe me if i say that other games with fees (WoW and Ff) still put some limits and THAT is insane.
As a new player i can say that there are a couple of things which are pretty dumb (like not making waypoints account based), but some restrictions are part of the game itself and what you get here for a low cost B2P is insane.
You can reach lvl35 in three days intense gameplay and that’s a reasonable amount of hours that are not a great problem for a motivated player. It’s like a threshold.
I see a lot less reasonable the waypoint thing, since this game blows other games out and needs to be a bit more alt friendly… Buy anyway, I understand Anet has to get the money somewhere and probably having players around forced to explore connects well to their needing of microtransactions.
In WoW you are not actually playing If you are not lvl100. The starting areas are empty cause everyone goes with lvl boost for that reason… And you still have to invest lots of hours to farm stuff to enjoy the game.
Here you have an open world approach, fast leveling (I’m 47 in 5 days) and a fun learning curve, since you can do almost everything as soon as it is available.
So, there are flaws, but not this one IMHo.
I’m new too, currently at 43 “level by level” (very few days, but I played a lot for staying at home partially ill xD). My advice is the precious one they gave to me: level up a character and take your time.
The game is wonderful: great maps, fun casual questing, daylies, crafting activities, chatting. The learning curve is smooth, but I cannot even imagine what I would have done with a 80 lvl character. xD
I don’t know if the actual endgame is the “core” part as it is in other games (cannot say much about this, but compared to other MMO, the leveling process is smooth, fun and full of things to do).
In the end, I love this game because of this 43 levels and I won’t mind leveling the others. I did my first dungeon to day and was tons of fun.
Remember that every single thing gives you experience (exploration, hearts questing, dungeons, kills, crafting, etc), so every single moment you invest is actually rewarded.
And, if it’s needed, remember that this game doesn’t involve the “holy trinity” of DPS/Healer/Tank, since in the very core everyone “is dps” during leveling, than finds the way to support the group (I’m a “hunter-like” druid with power and precision, but in the first dungeon today I leveled some “spirits” to give support and mitigate dungeon damage).
Take your time and leave the auto-level for your second or third character, when you’ll be pretty sure of what to play (since every class seems to be great and fun… as others say, since I just know the ranger by my experience and the other classes just for some videos I watched).
Feel free to ask, there’s plenty of good guys/girls/stuff around here.
Take care,
AE
Hey!
Need a bit of help.
My Ranger is 37 right now and I leveled with a full-Signet build which is tons of fun for me (casual gamer, map events, PvE only). Everything with a longbow.
Now: I’d like to try new builds and I trained a bit with Sword + Horn, which is nice (i think) for buffs and melee aggression. I got the spirits skills, but here come some doubts.
1. Is there any convenient way to switch a whole set of armor? Since while I use longbow + signets (or whatever I’ll get to buff my long-range dps) I want Power-precision-ferocity boosts and when I go into “melee-support” I’d like to boost vitality and healing. Should I get specific sets? Is there the ability to keybind a “swap all” kinda thing? Or I just switch stuff depending what I’m gonna do?
2. Is it the Melee + buffs viable as a solo strategy? I don’t care a lot about meta, but I like some theory crafting and since I’m not a lot into the math of the games I play, I need at least some direct experiences.
In the end I’d start soon dungeons (at least the Catacombs) and there I’d like to be of some help.
3. Any “combined” strategy longbow + buffs you found funny/reliable?
General advices are welcome.
Cheers!
Thanks mate, that’s my route in the end. xD
Are areas race-specific? So that (let’s say) I want to level an alt, I can start from completely different zones?
Hey!
Here’s the thing: I’m level 27. Some of the maps around my area (started as a Sylvari) are lvl 1-15. I get there is an aout-level mechanic, but I don’t get if, in the end, the EXPs I can get are less than average for this reason, so that the time investment is not worth.
I’m taking my time, so I don’t have any apparent reason to skip zones, but I can possibly let them for another character in terms of “suprirse” and just stick with zones of more appropriate levels.
Since major cities have the waypoint already activated, I don’t know if I shouldn’t just go there and start brand new areas.
Advices?
Hey!! Don’t know what to say… Amazing pieces of advice!! I’m lvl 21 right now but i take my time exploring maps and even repeating events. I’m kinda clumsy with keys lol
I’m experimenting bindings, tactics and stuff. This is a great game. Huge game for my tastes. I don’t ask much and all I ask is here. Relatively low number of active skills, manageable number of stats, insane amount of fun builds for mid-casual play.
Thanks a lot for your help. You are great.
Side note: the general feel is that this community is different from the average MMO population. In a good way.
Guys/girls/things, please… I read Fractals in the wiki, but don’t get a lot about them in game. I’m into Fractal of the Mists and I abosolutely have no idea of what to do… xD
Can you explain them to me as if I was a baby? xD
And nooow that we are here (waiting for the “new build” to install), a couple of general advices/questions:
- any way to “retrain” spent hero points?
- let’s say I’m a ranger (that is real): I’m focusing on signets, but I’d like to try even some BM skills… Any drawback in doing that?
I don’t get if the flexibility of having tons of skills is there to adapt yourself or if there is any other counstructive way to invest HP.
Thanks a LOT for your patience.
Hi!
Well, that clears up lots of perspectives.
Still i’m kinda puzzled since both the NecroGasm and MesmerSpam charm me.
I guess the Mesmer is philosophically more my thing, but necro seems a bit more playable for my needings… As a Souls player I’ll obviously choose the difficult way lol
Jokes aside… I’m kinda confused with the Elite stuff.. If every profession as only an Elite class… Where’s the choice? Is it actually a choice just stick to the main? I.e. I can avoid being a Druid with my ranger or is it actually mandatory?
And… Any hints about weapons? The basics seem to advice “bow for ranger, staff for X, sword for Y” but as I read some “self finders” around it seems like even akward choices can be viable.
Hey folks!
As some of ya might have noticed, I’m fully addicted. No hope for the near future.
So… I rolled a Ranger and I’m havin’ fun with it (still lvl13, so basically nothing) and I’ll stick to it since I like the playstyle.
But I wanted to try a caster. I read a lot around here and Elementalist is definitely not for me.
I’m sexually attracted by the Mesmer and the Necromancer.
The Mesmer seems challenging and inspiring in terms of gameplay, but since I’m mostly a “solo PvE casual guy” (not that I refuse guild cooperation, but I mostly wonder and kill stuff, exploring, reading lore…) it seems not to be good for solo activities and Necromancer seems to feet more an OK alternative to my sexy ranger…
BUT, I can choose to spare my time and stick to my Ranger as my “main solo” and create a “group focused” build, so the Mesmer is still doable.
Considering I’m not a “full meta” kinda guy and like experimenting Self Found builds, what do you advice?
Thanks for your time and patience!
Take care.
Guys/girls/creatures… you’re awesome. Lots of nice advices here.
I’m lvl 10 right now and I can’t stop playin’ xD
I played (and sometimes re-play) lots of online games like FFXiV, WoW (just for the guild, don’t like it that much), NW, PoE (for button mashing istincts)… GW2 is probably the biggest blast I’ve ever got in this 2-3 years of online gaming.
It’s insane. I’m taking my time, for sure. Everything is great in this game. Even jumping around to reach views lol
There are tons of things to take into account tho and I’m a bit scared… But I’m just doing it “natural” and let’s see what happens.
The thing I like the most is the trinity absence, thus you can basically build whatever you want (until high end game raiding, which as you said is obviously another pair of hands).
Anyway, feeling great right now. Exploration is rewarding and that’s a huuuuge winning factor, compared to other MMOs, where it’s kind of a collateral thing.
I won’t waste the level boost… No I won’t.
The ranger right now feels great for what I like, but I’ll obviously try a caster… Necromancer being my first choice (IRL roleplaying games area here xD).
Hope to catch around in the forums for some feedback/theory crafting/whatsoever.
Cheers!
P.S. If you have a veeery social Guild in mind, just let me know and I’ll check.
Hey folks! Nice to meet ya all!
Short story: looked at some guides, said “naah”. Todey I downloaded the client, ended the character creation 30 minutes ago, 2 levels as a ranger, upgraded to HoT. kitten .
Now, I’m playing ranger, still in the processo of learning. If you have some generale advices (outside the usual “videos”) please feel free to help
Consider that:
- I’m a casual;
- I’m on Piken Square (for what it’s worth);
- I’m a PvE guy, mostly soloing;
- play for social, mostly.
I still have to decide my main, probably this lovely sylvan ranger (I play women to get more favors xD), but I’m still struggling for a caster. Any further hint is appreciated.
