Engineer or Elementalist?

I’ve been struggling with this choice, myself. :P From what I’ve experienced, Elementalist is more effective at a few key things (damage, healing, maybe tanking), whereas Engineer has a much larger variety of tricks and tools available to them. And, I’d say control is one thing that Engineer wins out on. :P

Bear in mind, my perspective is from PvE. As “bunker” is generally more of a PvP term, I’m not sure that what I said holds true in regards to your particular needs.

If I were engineer I would probably go PP or PS, and for elementalist probably DD or SD, but im yet to look into it more. Does this help?

You have probably seen me post a forum where I asked if I should go Engineer or Necromancer, but I’ve decided against going Necromancer. I quite like the idea of going a bunker Engineer or a control Elementalist, or something like that. Both of these classes are difficult to master but fun to play from what I’ve heard, what do you guys think I should go, and what builds? I’ll be posting this on the Engineer forum too.

Thank you, ^-^

Necromancer or Engineer?

Necromancer does less condition damage than Engineer so power/critical builds tend to fill more roles, particularly in PvE and WvW.

Most of Necromancer’s conditions are soft CC that help sustain it when not in its Death Shroud “invulnerability” mode. That soft CC benefits from condition duration, not condition damage.

Nearly all of Necromancer’s condition damage comes from bleeds, not burning or fear, so keep that in mind when choosing runes for that stat. Burning damage is insignificant, IMO. Engineer has much greater access to burning.

I will try out both classes, but thank you. ^-^ Are there any stat sets that provide power and condition duration, as well as either ferocity or precision?

depends, do you want to move like a corpse dipped in treacle or jet around on rocket boots?

in pve both run zerker gear for meta. for wvw and pvp you have a lot more options build wise. necro is worse for pve than engineer, but has very strong builds for wvw (power wells) and pvp (cele signets). neither are top tier classes for pvp, but they can both work if you’re good with them. engineer is much more intensive finger wise, you have a lot of skills that you have to combo fast~ whereas necro normally seems to get stunlocked and die, but maybe that’s because I’m always ccing them.

i hate necromancer, i deleted mine at lvl 40 years ago and have never looked back. i have three level 80 engineers, so you can see where my loyalties lie. i choose based on aesthetics, feel, play-style, and the nature of their skills.

perhaps have a look at their builds on metabattle.com and see which ones look like they would suit you more. you know, like what kind of skills you would like to have.

Thank you for the answer, I’ll try both classes out and see what I prefer. ^-^

I’ve already posted this on Engineer, moving it onto Necromancer as it covers both topics. Going to get straight to the point, what do the classes focus stats wise, what kind of roles can they play as (since GW2 does not have specific roles like tank and healer), I heard Engis and Necros use Ravaging and Rampaging stats but what are those, what do they do, etc… As well as this, which of the classes excel in PvP and WvW as well as PvE and Dungeons?

Thank you. ^-^

ENGINEER !!!!

cause yar on ENGINEER FORUM !

anyway engineer yar have more fun, bomb / nade / mortar / FT /Egun so many builds to play around and easily to swap around

while nerco you will be a Power nerco only

I was hoping for a more serious answer, but I admire your humor. Anyway, what I was looking for was statistics and actual factors. Like, what kind of stats do Engis and Necros focus? I heard they use Ravaging or Rampaging, but Idk. I’m going to also move this onto the Necromancer forum as it covers both topics.

I’ve only played Guild Wars 2 for a month, and have tried majority of the classes. I’m going to make an Asura, but I’m not sure if they should be Engineer or Necromancer? I’m currently on holiday so I can’t actually make my character now, so I’d like a reply so that when I return I can get started. I have heard Necro is has fairly high DPS and HP, but isn’t as versatile as the Engineer that has a moderate amount of HP, and can heal, do a good amount of DPS or go defensive.

I’m not really sure what class to go though, and it’d be highly appreciated if you guys could help me. Thanks. ^-^
