This game is broken and balance is as bad as in wow.
Pvp will soon be extinct due to developers unable to take any decisive actions. Overpowered classes, skills that should never find their way into competitive game (moa bird- 10 sec. stun, ‘I win’ with no counters), mesmer teleport making other classes obsolete on one of three pvp maps, broken critical damage mechanisms allowing lucky thieves to kill anyone in 1.5 seconds and many, many more.
Those two games have one more thing in common: happy developers unwilling to listen to anyone. Wow’s developers lack skill to balance pvp, Gw2 developers lack the will . The keyword is here ‘WAIT’. Devs don’t want hasty nerfs so some people keep waiting while majority already gave up.

What about fixing pvp? Starting with quickness going through bunker builds and ending with moa and teleport?
——
If developers keep pretending everything is fine, pvp in this game is going to die, plain and simple. Wanna bet?

They will make fixes when there is noone left.

“Short-bow Condition rangers can kill “Bunker” specs with ease.”
——-
Ehm…no?
-Jonathan Sharp, game designer
I don’t even have to add that those rangers who play tournaments with some success all run the same build: short bow with quickness.
Damage is mediocre, team utility is NONE and your pet (which was the reason of post-beta damage nerfs) does not hit moving targets.

Currently whole meta is evolving around burst/bunker issue. As ranger is neither, the class (and the whole concept) of sustained damage dealer is completely ignored. Game is completely hijacked by guardians and mesmers. You can meet some rangers during first tournament game, less of them in the second phase.
If you manage to get to the final your opponents will be teams with no rangers, no warriors, occasional ele or necro, plenty of engineers, tons of mesmers and HORDE of guardians.
And if you do see a ranger instead of mesmer in opposing team it always brings some relief: your team might actually win despite having only 1 guardian…
But according to Mr. Peters ‘balance is pretty good’.
Arena Net: I can understand your ‘short steps’ policy on class changes, but I do not intend to wait till next year to see rangers buffed in pvp, moa transformation and mesmer teleport nerfed and guardians brought in line with other classes.

“Balance. Really, balance is pretty good”
——-
No it is not. Pretty sad you can’t see it.
And no, Handsome Jack is not going to defeat himself- similary Moa transformation is not going to nerf itself.
It waits for YOUR action – as gw2 players do.

As scoring system is broken your results mean nothing. And what about leavers?
-Jonathan Sharp, game designer
Seems we are second rate customers for Arena Net. We lost competition against PVE hamsters again. It is pretty sad concerning what kind of game GW1 was.

150% damage on your pet next attack -thats one of ranger’s signets.
And you forgot to add traits like giving 1% vulnerability on opening strike or amazing 30 pointers like ‘moments of clarity.’
But you’re right. Talent like ‘Guard’ should have been simply removed, its current state says a lot about atitude of developers.
The most sad part about the ranger however is the pet – traited with speed it is barely able to catch and hit moving golem, not to mention players.

Dear Mesmer, you forgot to add:
Moa = OP
mesmer’s pets =OP
teleport = OP

Thank you Arena Net.
We need more thieves and mesmers.

Time is running out Arena Net. People are getting tired about your vision of class balance…

Game is dying, so what are you doing to fix the only content you have?

“People are getting owned by what they dont understand. Nothing is op, there is a way to counter everything. I’m rank 25 in spvp, i believe its just fine.”
——————
And you play…let me guess: mesmer or thief?
Nothing is currently right. Broken abilities like 100 blades, pwhip and moa, broken classes like mesmer, broken runes like ogre, 70% of the traits are completely useless, downed state is ridiculous, balancing system ruins good games adding an odd player, there is no penalty for leavers and many more issues.

I don’t want to delve into class balance issues here, but when some classes have more appeal than others it is usually sign of not-so-good design. Interesting that after some beta adjustments Arena Net is silent – while the pvp badly needs designers’ attention.
Without pointing out particular skills, I just want to say I don’t want to play pvp dominated by two classes because it is simply boring as hell and I am sure a lot of people feel the same.

Interesting that Moa removes from play ranger’s pet. Why?
-Jonathan Sharp, game designer
Currently I often see 4 or more mesmers in any given game. That speaks a lot.

“Other than that, Mesmer has no I-Win-Button I can think of, neither is Mesmer damage somehow super bursty. I have yet to break 3k damage with one skill, for example.”
————-
Let me help you then: illusionary unload alone can dish out as much as 9-10k damage in single burst.
-Jonathan Sharp, game designer
“Mesmers need nerfs, but not huge ones. Moa needs to have its duration cut in half and its cooldown cut in half. Phantasms (particularly duellist, swordsman, berserker) need their damage toned down a bit, and possibly have slightly higher cooldowns.
That’s it. Mesmers would be in a really solid spot without being OP with those changes.”
————————
I would add fixing the downed state for mesmer which is currently ridiculous.
-Jonathan Sharp, game designer
Buffing mesmers too much Arena Net created a monster profession that can do all and better than others.
Weaken phantasms, extend the cooldowns, bring downed abilities in line with other classes and rework moa so it’s not ‘I win’ 100-0 button.
Thank you.
