Interesting, some guys complaining here, yet good players are not here to cry about stuff that are really not affecting their game. I do play sPVP and PVE, not so much WvW. I really love the changes, of course some may cry about it but that’s life.

I can’t find a way to mute or change that IRITATING announcer sounds from this part of teh game without turning down volumes of other sound effects also. I would even go ahead to edit the game files to remove that voice if someone would tell me how to do it.

Many voices are bad, mediocre in this game. From personal story cutscenes to NPC voices, but oh well that’s included with the game. But this announcer is driving me crazy. It’s bad, it’s loud, it will never shut up for a few seconds. Can someone help me to remove that voice only without turning down other sound effects volume aswell?
Or of it’s not possible from teh ingame menu, then by other means?

The first boon digs into warrior core mechanics.

The second digs into mesmer core mechanics.

Being able to stealth mid fight is enough. IMO, thieves do not need additional stealth, and clones are controlled by AI, you should be able to recognize the real mesmer by simply paying attention to how they move.

Hint: Mesmer clones cannot dodge roll.

Mesmer clones can’t strafe, mesmer clones don’t run away from you, mesmer clones don’t revive teammates, mesmer clones don’t stomp you. Quite right. Mesmers job is to decieve. Let’s leave poor mesmers alone) they hate thieves just as much as thieves hate them.

While is see many sad posts about thieves nerfed down, as I read the patch notes there are only buffs to this class. Most thieves relied way too much on stealth, meaning they were in stealth about 90% of the time in any battle.
When changes came and that’s good they came, now you need a bit more skill and timing to do the same thing. It’s only it was actually easier for the unskilled ones to look up the net for some “never see me” “I hit you but you shouldn’t hit back because I am so used to stealth that I forgot how to use my mobillity”

Thief is the profession who’s weapon skills have NO cooldowns. Thus this is the one profession that really can be played in Many different ways with the same weapon set without any need for rotation, the thief will switch weapons if he wants to, given the circumstances, not because he has to.
This is by far the most versatile class from the game. I love it. I main as thief, and I really like the changes. I used stealth where I needed it. But that was not my ONLY option to stay alive.

I am sure that I am not the only one still confortable playing as thief, I am quite sure that there are still hundreds of others. But the voices of sorrow can be heard louder then the voices of joy

I main as thief and I don’t know… I really see only good changes here. I never relied on perma stealth, it was never what this class is all about, stealthing once-twice in combat dodging, smart moves made this class unique while we have no cooldowns. Some of our skills were even buffed, so I really can’t complain

Considering it was a DPS loss over just auto attacking, I think this change is justified.

What they should do though, is change it to an instant cast, single big hit ability rather than a channel of lots of little hits. That way it can be entirely dodged / blocked / reflected. Call it kill shot or something.

ahaha lol you need even shorter burst now? Poor warriors lose all their adrenaline to do it.

As a pro ranger that hasn’t touched longbow for a very long time, I will defend this buff. Not only is it incredibly easy to counter, but it’s the only viable burst skill rangers have. Keep in mind every other class has burst skills that can usually hit higher than this. Also keep in mind the one shot sniper rangers existed before the patch. Also keep in mind said rangers are held together with string and merely blowing on them will down them. ALSO keep in mind that the dodge button is always there if you decide to use it.

Some Pro Ranger you are then) Yeah dodge button, dodge button that’s about the single thing you can say all day on this thread… if we are talking about wvw you might be right on a 1v1 situation, but in sPVP how much dodges does one have to clear off the constant AOE damage areas spammed by others and allso keep an eye on you and have some left to dodge when you decide to rapid fire, ah go away ya pro) defend this toy kid, but you will not be able to, because these changes are not final, and when this will be nerfed you will be among the first guys crying over it

They would and maybe they will. GW 1 had the skills altered in PVP (different activation times, cooldowns, effects) and some were locked. Here we already see locked skills in PVP, so it’s not silly to think that it will be like that in the future

You guys realize that Rangers damage has not changed….that 13k could be achieved before Sept 9th.

It all depends on DPS it’s not the same if you do 13 k in half of that time you did previously

Why is everybody complaining. There was no damage increase to rapid fire. Rangers were just as deadly before patch as they are now. So what the skills shoots a little faster, that means it’s easier to dodge. Pre-patch one dodge would negate 1/4 of the damage, now one dodge negates 1/2. Honestly, people see a big number hit them fast and they cry, while they are too ignorant to realize that the same number could be achieved pre-patch. People need to stop crying like a bunch of morons, you sound like you can’t play the game.

Said the Ranger who’s burst time is halved now) Allright mate nobody ever explained to you what DPS means? Let’s say you have 5 seconds to deal damage, when the speed of your skills is GREATLY increased you will do more damage in 5 seconds, thus your damage is greatly increased. That is why we are counting the damage in dps. It is much easier to trash damage on an enemy if you can do it faster. Maybe it’s just that you are happy now, even if you were…not happy before because you could not win a game?

Anyway, in sPVP you are not engaging a single ranger by yourself on the whole map so you kinda have to dodge many things when you have mesmers around, engi and other wonders,and while you are exhausting your talent the ranger just climbs teh cliff and trashes you with his very short burst damage. So yeah learn to dodge… Please don’t lecture other players on things that you are clearly not familiar with

So what you are saying is You can deal with the very low skill requirement ranger player if you make a build that can’t do much damage and it’s only good vs this new ranger (which will soon get nerfed btw)

Or you are saying that You can do well against a very low skilled player if you are a really good player… because trust me, good rangers know when to use their skills, they don’t spam all the time so you can just dodge it

What he is probably saying is that there are options on the table regardless of class to counter.

I will say I agree 100% that good rangers post patch are crazy good right now. I say kudos to them for staying the course with the class. They deserve it.

Guys chill, this stupid thing is going to be nerfed sooner then you realize, since Anet staff are actually trying out the PVP games with guilds.
Untill then roll ranger and have fun with this stupid thing. Ranger with longbow was pretty good even before the patch, now this new patch is for those who wanna teach their grandmother to play PVP “Come on gramy, sit down here, you see this is called a ranger. now you press tab untill you target someone, then push this button, then this one, and you see, he is dead good job gramy! If they wanna get close push this. Trust me thise guys really have to work hard getting close to their targets to burst them down , while you can do it just by pushing these nice buttons”

For those that are saying “learn to dodge”) These guys clearly are not thinking . OK give me the insta kill hammer with 8 sec recharge and 1500 range with added stealth knockback, cripple skills, then you learn to dodge it)

Problem is… so many traits a P/P Thief would need is scattered all over the place, it’s hard to get out something of it. But in teamfightsyou just take good care of your positioning and you really can hurt enemies, if they are not closing in fast on you.
It’s more like a gatling gun build, trading in overall mobillity for sustained damage

Both sigils (MH and OH) may proc when using any weapon skill, including autoattack.

Well I was looking on information about how dual skills work and I know that dual skills damage is based on the 1st weapon. But I’m confused about this skill when I’m trying to experiment on PVP builds. So the Sigils can be equipped to both weapons, but the effects of the sigils work simultaneously when I use a dual skill?

For example if I use dual Pistols- 1st weapon ha sigil of rage, the other sigil of blood, both of these will kick in when I use Unload?

What I really want to say that even if there are no good or evil sides, we saw the struggle between Luxons and Kurzicks in GW 1. This didn’t really put players in good or evil side, however gave more variety in the personality of the story and PVP

Go to the mists. That’s where you are the bad guy who can steal the keeps from the good guys, if you want to see it that way.

If you want a detailed storyline with many actions and consequences then don’t play a PvE MMO. MMOs are about repeatability and shared environments. Repeated consequences are a bit contradictory and although every player wants their personal impact upon a shared environment it is hard to deliver.

I am not thinking about satisfying every taste here, but you can really see that this adventure is one sided, with no real meaning of choice. As for the Mists…. ahh give me a better CPU already)

Well ideally we’d have ultimate freedom. However that’s not possible, a game by it’s very nature restricts and prevents (even a game of hopscotch limits you to only certain action). This is usually referred to as mechanics but in terms of narrative the same concept applies. There isn’t enough man power to produce enough content to do so. So it’s not an inherently bad thing that we don’t have more narrative freedom (a focus on a single plotline allows for more polish).
However what we do lack is expressiveness. Think about Mass Effect (which get’s brought up very often…) you’re always doing the same thing you just have the options to swing Paragon or Renegade while doing so and practically all that means is different dialog options. The ability to express differing opinions goes a long way in not limiting us to the: “Nice guy who likes flowers”-thing even if the dialog in the bigger scope doesn’t change anything.

Well basically content is really created here at a good pace, just it’s not something that adds more variety, new contents so far are just expanding the same. While that’s a good thing, it’s just like adding new towers to the same castle instead of building new buildings. If they have the manpower creating the towers they could also focus to variety here.
You have a good point with Mass Effect there, but we’re looking at a MMO where the promise was: “This is your story”.

While this is a real jewel of a game I’m playing from it’s release… It’s a real shame that my personal story is not a personal story at all. While I do enjoy saving the world once or twice when I create a new character, it’s just sad that I can’t go the other way in my personal story. Sometimes I don’t want to be the hero, I don’t want to be the guy who’s praised by all those common people and peasants, Maybe I would like my necromancer to join the Elder Dragon in one way or the other. I can even Imagine some dynamic events starting not because random npc’s are starting to get nasty, but because of Players who are starting it from the evil side. That would create fun events for the players helping to clear the mess on the good side.
Why should we be stuck in the “Nice guy who likes flowers” personality? That should be my choice instead of the game forcing me into it. No matter what profession, what race, what path of the story I pick, even if I’m just roaming around the world, I always have to be the helpful guy with a good heart who can’t avoid being the hero in every situation.

I can imagine an antagonist storyline, but not just that. Those hearts on the map symbolize the good deeds you can do to help the ones in need. There could be another type of sign aswell where if you are attending you are actually doing the opposite. Like Helping the evil guys, or raising the dead who will occupy outposts and so on. This would create even more dynamic events branching from the players actions.
Guilds could also join one side or the other thus creating the prelude of the Guild Wars!
This was actually always the strong side of the mmorpgs. The difference between factions, paths and people who were introducing themselves as different personalities in a living world.

Here I found some great benchmarks with build explanations.
Now as I will have to go for a new set of MB+RAM+CPU to go for an i5 with 8GB DDR it is way to expensive atm. But there is no rush since the game is playable, and those prices are going down VERRY fast as they always do. maybe I will invest in that sometime at summer or later, untill then I don’t think there is any point for me to swich over to 64bit OS, since all my other games are working like a charm. GW is REALLY CPU HEAVY.
Thank you for your answer, it explains entirely why my FPS doesn’t drop at all even if I use the highest possible settings in the game and doesn’t get higher when I slide those options all the way to low…. CPU bottleneck… kitten #8230;.
Thank you for your help, see you ingame. (even if I behave like a noob in WvWvW since I only spam easy skills, since the FPS si dropping when 40+ppl are fighting, like I’m watching a series of screenshots in a slideshow, I can be a pretty good team player)

Hello everyone. I opened this topic in with those many problems most of players are experiencing as I do, and trying to find possible solutions. I will talk about stuff that I did to solve some of the problems, while I have questions about other problems. Please if you answer also post the information about your computer.

The problems are (but not limited to):
1.Crashing to desktop with or without out of memory report
2.Slowdowns and crashes using the world map
3.Extreme FPS drops is some areas and/or crowded places in WvWvW
4.Crashes, or other problems while loading a new area

My computer is:
PSU: Corsair 650W
CPU: AMD Phenom X3 8750 (triple core)
RAM: Corsair DDR2-800 2×2GB (4GB)
Video: ASUS Geforce GTX560 900 MHZ 256bit 1GB DDR5
Monitor native resolution 1920×1080, at 60hz
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit

now for the stuff I solved, while GW2 was nearly unplayable when I first installed it.

Video Driver issues: every Nvidia Drivers up to 306.23 had huge problems with GW 2 causing nasty performance at about 15-20 fps outside of Divinity’s Edge.
The 306.23 WHQL driver solved most of the bad FPS problems, but still is not good enough.
The newer 306.97 WHQL driver was performing worst then the previous 306.23
Now the newest WHQL signed driver, the 310.90 driver was actually improving giving better rates then the 306.23 so that’s what I’m using now.

1:Crashing to desktop with out of memory report – somewhat solved.
Looks like most of the out of memory problems atleast on my 32 bit system are caused by memory overflow caused by textures. Sliding the texture option in the graphics to medium or low caused this problem to go away
2: Slowdowns, crashes, and unusual colorful stripes that somehow appear usin the map/ zooming it in-out looks like are also caused by textures overcrowding the memory
3:Extreme FPS drops is some areas and/or crowded places in WvWvW…. GUYS! I CAN’T FRICKIN’ SOLVE THIS ONE!
While in some areas I can get to 60+ FPS in Lion’s Arch, crowded WvWvW places the Fps is ridiculous! I don’t wanna hear anyone telling me that this is “normal” since those places are like that and we should get used to it. THE MAIN PROBLEM IS: I can play around with the game’s graphics options as much as I want, there is no cure to this. I have 10 FPS in some cases even if I set EVERYTHING to lowest possible settings, and have 60+FPS in other areas even if I turn everything up ALL the way, even supersample, and other cookies. No matter what graphics settings I use there is not more than like 5% overall difference in FPS.
My guess is: this may be caused by incompatibility of drivers, or hardware with GW2, or the limitation of the 32bit.
So I need Help here since only GW2 has this problems of all my other games wich are played on wery high settings, without any problems. Sain’ts Row3, GTA4, Crysis 2, AC3, many, many others, I play them all with great performance at the highest settings.

now I have a question. Switching from 32bit to 64 bit Windows 7 could solve this issue? Anyone done it? I would like to know if it is worth it to change just for this game, and have better FPS after that.

4: Crashes on loading new areas-Somewhat solved:
I installed the newest important Windows 7 patches, set the texture size ingame to medium, disabling most of the background programs before running the game

I bought 1600 gems! I bought 2 sunglasses (accidentally), I bought the pirate outfit, an armor set and none of my items came through, I checked my mail, checked my bank, logged out and back in, nothing. I bought thatkittenhat for 0 gems and I got the item right away. Now…. How in the world will I get my items for wich I payed?!
