No weapon or skillset should be the top of everything.
You should probably forward that over to the Elementalist devs, they seem to be of a different philosophy over there.
Every example you listed is an extension of the class mechanic (virtues, adrenaline, shatter effect, etc). Engineer’s class mechanic is toolbelt skills.
Every other elite spec got 4 utilities + 1 heal + 1 elite. Engineer gets that +6 toolbelt skills, which is exactly what you’d expect. The only other thing Scrappers could have gotten (without breaking their design) is weapon swap instead of toolbelt skills.
We encourage all of you who’ve participated in the Mordrem Invasion to please share your constructive thoughts on how we can improve on these types of experiences in the future. Please share your ideas and feedback in this thread.
Thank you.
Give Champions the ability to drop loot or Blooms.
Give gold or karma for each event completed.
Show players a reason why they should care about total of incursions stopped.
Provide some sort of benefit for that.At the very least, if rewards can’t be increased then decrease the price of the items.
That way the grind isn’t so high. For future events, don’t place them so close to Toxic Alliance events where they overlap.
Also the game’s time limit and cool down could be worked differently alongside mobs.
For example: Instead of giving us 30 minutes of frantic mess, then another half hour of nothing in the next map after; provide some hot spots to entertain us while we wait.Let’s say Kessex Hills will be the next map hit. Give certain spots of the map a few Champions running around like bounties. Then the bounty hunt ends about 10 minutes before the big event. Afterwards, provide small pockets of Mordrem (which drop loot) in those maps until that map becomes the next one in rotation. Then bring back the roving bounties.
Rinse, repeat, reduce the parking lot that is the waypoints on the map.
As a result of this frustration and disappointment, I will not participate in the Mordrem activities. Nor will I encourage anyone I chat with, but I will wish anyone wanting to farm it the best of luck.
I’ll spend my time doing dungeons or playing Silverwastes.
What you just described sounds very fun, and I would definitely play an event like that all day without getting bored.
I just feel the devs really need to stop being so stingy with rewards. I get that you don’t want a gear treadmill, and I think that model is fine; but you should still make your content rewarding in some other way. The idea that the enjoyment of the content itself should be reward enough means that you have to set your bar pretty kitten high for everything you release.
I’d also just like to reiterate the point that creating an event to welcome a swarm of new players, and then having said event grant no xp is just…baffling.
More of a visual bug, idk if it belongs here, but I’ll go ahead and post just in case (posted in the bug report forum about a month ago and never go fixed, so here goes)
The ability Hidden Pistols (toolbelt skill from Charr racial "Hidden Pistol) has a graphical issue where it displays you holding 4 pistols instead of two. Two of them are pointed ahead as normal, two of them are pointed at the ground, looks really dumb.
nah keep it the way it is, so you actually have to fight the dungeon mops
You do realise this kinds of things make people don’t want us in dungeons right?
To be fair they have plenty of other valid reasons as well. Not that I disagree with you or OP.
I really just do NOT understand the changes to Consume Conditions, I don’t see why it needed nerfing in the first place. Yes, it was the most common heal skills among Necros, but that’s because it was our only decent one! Why didn’t they buff the other ones instead of nerfing the only viable one.
But okay, lets say that whatever reason they had for nerfing it was valid. Why why WHY did they take this route of self-vulnerability to a heal skill? Say you get to 30% hp so you pop your heal skill and get back to ~70% or whatever then BAM you take a massive crit to the face thanks to the vulnerability and you’re right back to 30-40%. IT MAKES NO SENSE.
If anything, it should have been changed to randomly eat a couple boons in addition to your conditions.
It would still have a downside, but one that you could actually play around a bit, plus it would just make more thematic sense: using dark magic to heal comes with a price – maybe the dark magic is a little chaotic/unstable and not fully within your control. It’s way better than a heal skill that is all about REMOVING CONDITIONS but ADDS CONDITIONS in the process.
Seriously who came up with this change? WTF
Doesn’t seem to get much attention here, anyone know a better way to report this bug?
“Hidden Pistols” is the tool belt skill associated with the Charr racial “Hidden Pistol.”
There is currently a graphical bug with this skill: when you use the ability your character holds four pistols – two held normally and two pointing straight at the ground (looks really weird). The bug persists through the entire skill animation.
Attached is a screenshot in case my description was poor.
(This bug seems to happen 100% of the time, and has not always been the case)
I played a few games with it after I saw your post on reddit, it’s a really fun build!
There is a distinct lack of charr eles on this thread
I can help with that.
(edited by Atheismo.5164)
Ah that’s a shame, so it’s generally sub-optimal in any build?
But not those gloves… those arms look seriously messed up. :[
Maybe I’m wrong but aren’t those and the shoulders both Magitech (from the gem store)?
The hands do look quite distorted so its hard to tell, but the left side definitely looks like Magitech.
What do other Charr engineers think about Hidden Pitsols? I really enjoy using it when I’m just out in the world exploring, but I’ve kept it out of dungeons so far because I wasn’t sure how it stacked up to other damage sources.
The damage on the main ability is basically nonexistent and is just useful as an evasion, but the toolbelt ability seems to dish out some decent damage. Also Sigil of Intelligence seems to effect all 8 shots, although maybe I’m just missing something (new player)
Sorry if this has been asked, I tried using the search feature but it seems broken or something.
Looking to speedrun my Engi to 80 as fast as possible – I hate the main story and really just want to get to 80 asap so that I can do the more interesting storylines.
Was wondering what the most efficient build would be to do that.
Thanks for any help
One of my favorite things in GW1 was the Signet of Capture and hunting down rare skills that weren’t sold by trainers.
I also think one of GW2s main issues that leads to players leaving is the relatively small amount of utility skills available for each profession. It’d be cool if they added like 10 new skills for each class that are only obtainable via Signet of Capture.
I think it’s less to do with you being Asura and more to do with not being a Norn. I love my Norn, but it’s clunky as kitten playing him. All the terrain issues seem magnified tenfold on Norn.
Hey everyone. I’m sure this has been asked before but I tried searching and wasn’t able to come up with much, so I apologize for the repeat question.
I’m kinda new to GW2 so I don’t really understand this whole boss week thing. I have done all 5 of the 6 achievements currently listed under “Living World – Boss week”. The only remaining achievement is Boss Week itself. I am currently 6/9 towards completing it (“3x Hunt the Dragon”, “Shoe size: massize”, “She’s over here”, +1 from idk where).
So my question is what other acheivments count towards Boss Week, and are any of them repeatable?
I want my black wings. Give me 1 black wing. I don’t want a flower. I don’t want a dream catcher. I want something bad-kitten .
And I find black wings ugly while flowers are pretty.
And while you are entitled to your own opinion, as is the OP, you have to admit that the vast majority of back pieces already fit into the realm of what you think of as pretty. What’s so wrong about him wanting a couple pieces that would look at home on say, a Necromancer?
Half the exotic weapons on the trading post look better than all but the elite-tier legendarys (Twilight, Juggernaut, Sunrise, etc).
I know it’s a different game, but I’d really like it if there was more viable options to earn money. The really bad thing is that this issue, which should be purely contained to the economics of the game, is actually spilling over into the actual gameplay. I just hit 80 and I’m having an enourmous amount of difficulty getting groups together for Explorer dungeons so I can get my gear. Why? Because all anyone wants to run is CoF path 1. Why? Because it’s the only remotely viable way of earning money in this game. Sure you can grind out materials/greens but that won’t make money nearly as fast as just doing a single CoFP1 run.
I really feel like Anet needs to make drop%‘s more appealing. Or at least add some other way of generating income. It’s bad for the game to be so one dimensional.
I don’t get low level loot from 80 dungeons, I do however get only blue-quality loot. Don’t think I’ve ever gotten anything better than a Green from a boss drop/Chest, certainly never an exotic.
It’s one of the things that makes this game so frustrating for me. I have no incentive to do anything because all the loot sucks. You can’t farm high level mobs for loot because everything gets spam nerfed.
One of my favorite things in GW1 was taking my 55-Monk and AoE-farming Ettins for hours for a shot at loot. I know it might sound kinda boring in writing, but for whatever reason I enjoyed it a ton. I think I’m just a treasure hunter by heart and GW2 does not encourage this type of play at all.
I already log off after like an hour from sheer boredom, can’t see myself even bothering to log on in another month or two.
I don’t get why this got moved to the Necro forum. The OP used Necro as an example (as did I) but I think the overall idea here was referring to all classes.
Of course they aren’t. If they were ‘too expensive’ then no one would buy them and the price would come down until people did.
The demand for celestial/white/black/abyss is so high that people can sell them at these prices easily. If the demand was lower, or if there were more sellers competing, then the price would go down.
The Fire/Frost dyes are another perfect example of real world economy as they are a consumable item (‘destroyed’ upon use) that have a /very/ limited supply since they can’t be obtained anymore. Thus the 50G+ prices.
The new achievement rewards are generating a crazy influx of gold too, so I expect the prices of pretty much everything to go up for the next month or so. Once the influx of achievement rewards dies down a bit (as back-logged people catch up) prices will normalize again – although I expect the rare dyes to stay about where they are.
As other people have said, I don’t feel that any of the Legendaries that we can wield fit our class at all. I like Bifrost, but I feel that it would look kinda dumb with the sythe overlay.
I’m hoping Anet gives us access to Greatswords at some point (Hey, mesmers have em), because Twilight would be absolutely BA on a necro.
edit: actually the underwater weapons are actually pretty cool on a necro, but it’s hard for me to justify 1700gold for a weapon I’ll only use underwater (never).
I’m level 75 and I’ve used a power build the entire way, using mostly axe/focus + staff.
At 70 I switched it up and totally re-did my traits and gear and went for a pure condition build. Even picked up 6x runes of the afflicted. I run Scepter/Dagger + Staff, Signet of spite, Blood is Power, Epidemic
All I have to say is it’s hilariously fun playing a condition build. I run around and aggro like 8+ mobs (as many as I can without them resetting). Cast Signet of Spite, Blood is power, and AA a few times, then spread my 20+ conditions to all the mobs. Then I just deathshroud 5+4 and run in circles. Everything dies within 5 seconds of casting Epidemic.
Speaking of which that’s gotta be the most powerful 1-point utility spell in the game.
kitten I actually want the black/green one more than the black/red version ;p
Good post. As a fellow necro, I agree wholeheartedly. I know that currently the community looks at us as “op” so this post might get stigmatized and de-railed, but there are several weapon abilities that are just so useless that there’s never a good time to use them. In theory I’m supposed to have 10 weapon skills to swap between, but it usually feels more like 5-7 depending on my weapon combo. It makes “rotations” appear too (which are the worst part about mmos imo): "cast spell 1, 3, 4, then swap weapons and use spell 1, 2, 5. Repeat. Yaaaawwn.
It’d be awesome to see Anet go through and re-vamp a bunch of the really lackluster weapon skills (for all classes ofc) as well as some of the utility skills that never get used (I’m looking at you, Spectral Grasp)
As far as Classes go, I’d love to see the Dervish make a return – they were kitten.
For race, my #1 would probably be Koden, but it’s unlikely given how much effort would have to be put into customizing armor appearances on them. Tengu are probably the most likely.
Hey guys, I’m in the process of leveling a Necro at the moment. So far I haven’t been super impressed with the class, but on the other hand the first character I leveled was a Warrior, so I’m spoiled.
Anyways, I’m pushing ahead because I really want to like the Necro and I feel that I will enjoy the class at 80. So far I’ve primarily been used Axe/Focus and Scepter/Dagger as my two weapon combos, with occasional use of the Staff. I like the balance of having AoE conditions along with some single target spike damage for when I need it.
For my utility skills I’ve been running Epidemic, ‘Blood is Power’, and Well of Suffering to augment my weapon choices (vulnerability/power + condition spread).
I’m level 27 now and I’ve been thinking of giving MM another try once I hit 30 as I will have access to the Flesh Golem. I’m wondering if there is any way to make MM viable for leveling. I tried it once before (around Level 15) and wasn’t impressed with it at all because of how squishy the minions were.
Anyways, is there a way to make MM viable for leveling? Or should I just purchase Lich Form as my first elite skill and continue using my current build?
Good thread, I enjoy seeing these combos way more than 100 pictures of full CoF gear.
Hey guys.
I’m currently leveling up my second character (warrior) who will become my main. Right now I’m level 47 and my Weaponsmithing (primary profession) is at around 225 I think – I can make Darksteel (level 50) weapons.
So far I haven’t found crafting to be all that useful beyond extra XP for leveling (I gained almost 8 levels yesterday from crafting). The weapons I make are rarely better than the stuff I get from quests or buy from Karma merchants, and the items are almost worthless when I try to sell them on the Trading Post.
So I’m starting to wonder if it’s even worth crafting…Maybe it’d be better to just sell all the raw materials I get while doing zones?
Is crafting worth it at level 80? Can I make a profit from it?
I know the Legendary weapons are one of the biggest reasons to do crafting, but I doubt I’ll have the conviction to actually make one of them – they might be cool but from my understanding they take months of grinding to actually make.
Cool thanks guys, I’ll definitely have to check it out when I get home tonight.
When I first started GW2 at release one of the things that struck me was how positive the community was compared to most online games. Nice to see nothing has changed!
would love a flail! was thinking how cool that would be the other week. can’t actually think of a mmo that has flails
Diablo 2 wasn’t an MMO, but it’s the only game I can think of that had flails.
Hey guys
Lemme start by apologizing, because I’m sure these questions have been answered already but I can never find anything useful with this forum’s search feature – I suck, I know.
Anyways, I’m returning to the game for the first time in like 5 months and the Adventure Box appears to be one of the newer features so it caught my eye.
I’ve collected around 500 bubbles while leveling and was thinking about using them, but I’m a guildless level 20 player and I don’t really know anyone who plays.
So basically my two questions are:
1) Do I need to be level 80 to participate in the Adventure Box mini-game?
2) Do I need a group or can I solo this stuff?
I use a 1-handed sword in pvp and pve no problem now I know when and how to use it. Ie. in areas where I wont fling myself off a cliff and when I realise that my no.2 skill is how I dodge out of combat etc.
As I stated, the #2 and #3 abilities are the reason I like the sword. The problem I’m having with it is the combo chain on the #1 ability, because it forces you to do this ridiculous animation that blocks me from using any other ability or even using a roll. I haven’t noticed this problem on any other class.
I’m sorry, but no: it does not get any better at higher levels.
If you are not enjoying the class right now, then you will never enjoy it, unless we finally get the ‘significant changes’ John promised us.
Bleh…Just can’t seem to find a class I like in this game.
Really? Apart from Rangers and Engineers, every other class is more or less well-balanced. Exactly what kind of play-style are you looking for?
Well normally I like playing Rogue-like characters but I just didn’t really enjoy the thief in this game, mostly because I prefer having a single long-duration stealth ability rather than a bunch of super short ones.
My only L80 is a guardian and I pretty much just hate him, very boring to solo with although I do feel useful in groups.
Figured I’d try Ranger because I liked the idea of being a sniper with a bunch of traps, but that doesn’t seem to really work out.
Maybe it’s just the game itself, I usually get way more interested in an MMO to the point where I’m addicted. I played Rift and WoW for more than a year without ever getting bored (WoW for more like 3+ years), and this game just has be worn out after a few months…

I thought I would really enjoy this class but now that I’ve started playing him I’m not so sure.
Almost all of the utility skills seem pretty bad. The traps would be cool, but even when I’m using a bow I can’t get them to reliably trigger since my pet tends to take the aggro. When I’m using a melee weapon I sometimes place the trap directly on top which is okay I guess, but it just feels kinda ‘meh’ since I don’t have many things to trigger the combo field with in melee range.
Also my pet. Man does he suck. He drops sooooo fast whenever he’s fighting an equal-level enemy, and if there’s more than 1 npc on him he pretty much instantly dies. Does this get any better?
Finally, I’m having some real issues with the 1-handed sword animation. It’s my favorite melee weapon to use, because Hornet Sting and Serpent’s Strike are really nice abilities. The problem I’m having is the auto-attack (#1) ability chain is really annoying due to the animation with the jump + kick thing, it makes it really hard to use abilities or even dodge because my character gets sorta “stuck” in the jump animation.
Does any of this get any better in later levels?
Hmm okay, thanks for the advice.
So short of waiting a new CPU to be released there’s not much I can do to get better performance?
Hey guys, I’m enjoying GW2 but one thing I’d really like to do is get it to the point where I can keep my graphics on High while doing events/WvW with TONS of players/spell effects. I first noticed it with the recent Lost Shores event; despite being able to run max settings with 60 fps when going solo or running 5-man dungeons, I needed to turn my settings down to low to get acceptable (30+) framerates.
So, I’d like to upgrade my system this weekend while I can find some crazy deals on Newegg. Here are my specs:
Phenom II X4 955(3.2GHz)
8GB DDR3 1TB HDD Capacity
AMD Radeon HD 6870 (1 GB)
What component should I upgrade? Should I just get a new Video Card, or will something else yield better results?
Thanks for the responses guys, feel free to ignore this thread now – I have no intention of rolling a class that requires a pet.
Crap…That’s disappointing.
Hello everyone
I’ve played the game since release and I’ve now tried every class except one – Ranger. My reason for not even giving it a try is pretty simple: I hate bow+pet based classes.
Anyways I’ve grown a little tired of my main character (guardian) and wanted to spend a little time leveling an alt; the problem is that at this point I’ve already tried all the other classes so it doesn’t seem as exciting to start a new character.
But the Ranger is totally fresh and new in my eyes – it might as well be a newly release class. However, I don’t even want to bother rolling one of they have to use a pet – I hate pets. I think it’s kind of cool that Ranger’s get a pretty wide assortment of weapons and aren’t forced to be bow/gun ranged DPS like they are in most games.
How relevant are pets to the class? If I wanted to complete forgo using a pet would I even be able to do so? Would I still be viable?
Hey guys, just curious what you all think of the Mesmer class as a whole?
The only two classes I’ve literately never played are the Mesmer and the Ranger (and I"ll never play a pet class that uses a bow) so I’ve been considering starting a Norn/Human Mesmer to play.
Just curious how well they play in different aspects of the game (PvP, WvW, PvE, etc).
Any input is welcome, as long as it’s relevant to the topic.
Well considering the long drawn out way they are releasing the Ascended gear and the Karma nerfs it’s likely the old dungeons and open world endgame areas will be obsolete for a while. Welcome to the new FotM game.
I’ll probably give it a fair chance for a few weeks and then head back to League of Legends if they don’t radically change their design philosophy…
Well said. I’m actually already seeing the effects; I just hit level 80 yesterday and excitedly went over to Lion’s Arch to get a group for Citadel of Flame story/explorer, because I hadn’t run the dungeon yet (it sounds cool) and the exotic armor from CoF looks awesome.
Here’s what I saw in chat:
-LFG for FoTM 3
-LF2M for FOM level 4
-LF3M for fotm level 1 (level 80’s only)!!
-LFG for FOTM
-LFG for level 2 FotM
After about 25 minutes of trying to get a group started for something OTHER than FoTM, I gave up and started a new character. Maybe I’ll try playing the “end game” again in a few weeks when the FotM is no longer FotM.
