I am highly interested in this. upon getting my Mesmer to lvl 30/31 i would really love to be a part of this ive tried the first dungeon and am still foggy on the mechanics and such. I really would love to do this if its not all speed running cause imo thats just boring ;<

So i have heard a lot about them from various places in game, and I am still low level, but I am curious as to what they are. are they just end game raids and such?

Ahhh ok. I like the idea of having clones running about and such and also big damage numbers, simultaneously using a greatsword as main hand, and then I guess a sword/pistol, or sword/torch for my second weapon set. (or focus even instead of torch. Pistol I think would be more strategically wise.)

coming from you, as you have 4 (very unique mesmers!), which of these PVP builds would best the easiest to learn and get down? i prefer fighting at a range, I would probably stick with one of the shatter builds. Maybe the traditionally but the meta build says they are difficult o learn x_x so that makes me unsure about playing those builds. D;

I followed one of his (i think roamer WVW necro builds for small 1v1 skirmishes or 2-3v1’s that I use in PVP as well) that works exceptionally well for me on necro. its probably common but yeah. (this is irrelevant xD ) I just trust Alcatraz’s stuff x)

But main question, which build do you think a newb should start off with in PVP? weapon wise and such.

Are there any beginner tips and tricks you guys can give me to building it? what’s the best build for them? and what should the role be in a dungeon or in WvW?

So i have read here and there on the forums about stuff called Living story. Can any one inform me of what exactly this stuff is? I am slightly at a loss as too what it is.

So I am a new player of about a week or so and am loving playing Necro. I dislike using a dagger, and am ok with using an axe. I see myself more of a caster and cant stand melee combat >_<

But where would I best flourish in PVP and WvW with playing with a staff or scepter? also what should my off hand be? War horn is opted out cause of being in too close to my enemies.

Also for my utilities I have been using my minions. Both PvP and WvW. I am only lvl 18 or so. I almost defeated a guardian last night in a 1v1 trying to contest a capture point. (was pretty sweet cause the enemy team that was behind the guardian did nothing but watch, as well as my team, guess they enjoyed the show, my team was cheering me on in chat! “go newbie go!” one of them said. xD Was an epic fun time ^^ )

but to the point, any advice on where i should focus my weapons and such? how i should thrive in PVP and WVW?

My first PC game was Unreal tournament on my uncles computer, I got really good at it and eventually got on his level of participating in local tournaments at game shops and such and at dragon con when it would come time for them to pass through our major city, (Atlanta). After that I got my first lap top some years later and continued gaming on it, mainly warhammer 40k (cant recall the sub name of it.) Then I went to never winter nights 2 and played it for a while and got used to playing it.

I too have always been a console player but mostly cause I have never been able to afford my own PC in which I got a new gaming PC a while back to play Final Fantasy XIV A realm Reborn, where as I have been playing it on PS4. Ever since I made the switch to PC i can honestly never go back to console gaming lol.

I guess to answer your question, it just takes time to build up your awareness and such.

When i started Final Fantasy XIV, my awareness was soooo bad and reaction time was hella slow. But eventually as i built up the determination to improve and begin to clear content and raids and such in that game my “raid” awareness spiked and am able to play my role very sufficiently.

It may also help you to just play around with your keys and such and get a feel for your keyboard, and where what is. (I play with a Razer Naga mouse, and Razer black widow keyboard which with the num pad on the side of the mouse its hella easy to use your abilities.)

But when I first started up the game and I began playing I pressed each key and found what was where and what did what with the exception of knowing the movement keys. You will get there no worries just remain persistent and keep pushing forward and learn as you progress. Its really easy once you get the grasp of it. ^^

Send your foes fleeing with fear! and chill them to make them slower! :o lol I have noticed this too. I can hold my own for a decent bit against 3 people before going down in PVP. >_< then I get over whelmed and die T_T

I dont get what the issue with using Minions is. o.o Im a new player to the game and I love being able to use my minions, i cant wait to unlock my traits and continue using them. I use mostly Staff, and scepter/focus. I hate using a dagger, but axe is fine. Still prefer my staff over all else ^^

Have you updated the Radeon roms for the G-card? try that first ^^ i did and even with my AMD Radeon R7 250 2GB updated i can run with best performance and appearance at 20-25 fps. I couldn’t at first but then i updated the roms and drivers and what not for the entire PC and it runs smoothly, the only time I ever lag is in large events with a ton of people.

When i was running events in the plains of ashford area I noticed I was running with some people that were doing the events as well and they complimented me in /say that i was doing a great job at something when all i did was cast my wells and let my conditions burn down the enemies lol after that they invited me to a party and we ran together from there

I have yet to run anything with any guild members though, I did some stuff with my guardian in my first guild, but nothing thus far with the second guild. >< I make plans to try and ask soon though maybe later this evening when i get home from work -_- lol

unfortunately for my inventory space and using multiple weapons my inventory becomes cluttered and i have to scrounge for space ><

I prefer using a staff and fighting at a range, dagger is up close and personal >< i dislike melee fighting. Scepter and focus, or axe and focus would work for me though if i used some other set aside from my staff :o idk what abilities dagger gives as a off hand weapon just yet, havent tried that.

I currently do have locust signet, and have been using my healing well for heals cause when i do events and such I generally shot for parties and party up for them. ^^ always more fun with ppl :P and so thats why i use well of blood over consume condition x) more convenient for allies imo

Ah that i was unaware about ranger. Havent played it yet, and dont think i will lol. Necro will be my main and yeah I can tell we are heavy condi dmg dealers, and minion manipulators :p

Playing Guardian is fun but I dislike playing up close like that yet love using a greatsword xD when i found out they could use staff’s my mind was blown ._. I still stick with a greatsword though when i play her. But then I found myself going back to my Charr necro ^^

But really whats confusing to me is the sub stats and builds, what stat should I focus on for what build as a necro? Right now the build I am aiming for is these one’s

And the PVE build seems to be working well for me thus far. I have yet to learn about the traits and what not, i will be entirely newb to that pretty soon x_x haha.

When leveling I wouldn’t look to level 80 builds for guidance. To work as intended they generally need all or most of the component parts, which you won’t have until much later in the game. Certain builds can work with a bare-bones spec if you will, but even then it’ll require you to be pretty far along in the game. For PvP though go nuts as soon as you can get in.

Since you don’t even get your first trait point until level 30 (and one every 6 levels after that) Just pick a weapon setup that works best for your playstyle and/or the task at hand and the same for utilities. You have plenty of time to experiment.

Also there are no passive mitigation stats like dodge/block/parry. In GW2 all of those actions need to be initiated by the player in one form or another. This may be what you’re referring to as “far more challenging and diverse in player skill than anything else”.

Yes thats what I am referring to is that those skills rely upon the player themselves and its not all RNG. that to me and in my opinion is the worst aspect of FF XIV, its all RNG based with the stats, like parry, dodging, block rate, crit rate, procs you can get, so on and so forth. its basically a game of luck and odds where you can slightly increase your chances and odds by a slim amount.

Where as here in GW’s its all about awareness and player skill from what i see thus far. You see it, you gotta react fast or it equals death in the long run. It requires a huge amount of raid awareness which is what i have looked for in RPG’s, and now I get it in a MMO-RPG.

FFXIV raids are just so basic and simple, you smack the floor a few times to master a mechanic and get it down and then move on to the next one and continue from there. only to wipe more times to learn the mechanic. Its just so watered down. I have yet to do the dungeons as said, and for that matter any bosses except for event bosses and in those I just basically sling my spells and such and inflict my conditions while keeping on the move.

(another aspect i love about this game, you dont interrupt your casts while moving unlike in FFXIV-ARR where as you have to remain stationary to cast your spells unless you use swift cast, or the cast time is really short, or if the spell is instant.)

To me GW2 is what every MMO should strive to be in my honest opinion lol

Honestly seems like you have a solid idea of what you want. Saying that I could give out the regular advice -

Learn to dodge – big one this. I’m guessing you’re already getting the idea of it but later on there are times that it can be dodge or die.

Dungeons – you specifically mentioned these. The first one becomes available at level 30 (personally I’d wait until level 31 to run it as that’s when you get your elite skill). Dungeons are a step up from open world content. Their difficulty is based on your level and knowledge (of the dungeon and your class). Entering AC story mode at level 30 with other level 30’s will be more challenging than entering at level 80, but it’s still completely doable. Dungeons are split into two types. Story mode and Explorable mode. Story mode serves as an introduction to dungeons and specifically the type of enemies and such in the dungeon. Explorable is a more challenging experience to story providing more mechanics and difficult enemies.

Guilds – you can have 5 guilds overall so it may be useful to find a guild to help you out and answer questions as you have them. If you check out the looking for section of the forum you should be able to find the right sort of guild for you. Also if you have the money starting your own guild as a personal bank storage space is usually worthwhile.

Yeah its a fairly simple game to comprehend in some aspects, although some I am still foggy on and left in the dust, but will come to acknowledge them soon enough in my progression.

I am also in Two guilds already of which has been of great help to me thus far ^^

So i started out as a Necro and went to guardian, so now I have a lvl 26 Guardian, and a lvl 16 Necro.

I started about a week or so ago this being my second MMO ever played. I mainly play FF XIV ARR and raid on it, I am seeing that this game though is far more challenging and diverse in player skill than anything else. I have messed around with and played a little of everything but I have yet to step foot in my first dungeon.

I have been using Metabattle.com for build guides playing as my charr necro and they seem to be of great help.

is there any advice that ppl can give me as a beginning player to this? i have also glimpsed through and book marked guides and such on the forums for they seem helpful.
