Still staff. For single-target weapons, axe or dagger and focus or horn.

For a condition build, scepter/dagger with epidemic and staff.

for trash mobs and dynamic events, condition is fine. Thieves level in record time with blossom/cluster bomb +caltrops. It’s just in dungeons that you’ll hear tantrums.

Thanks for that. I highly doubt I will be doing dungeons. I started two weeks ago (today I believe) and my highest is just level 60. I didn’t want to do dungeons until I got a real sense of the game because I hate disappointing people. I would hate to be “that guy” that just gets the group killed because they are so clueless. I mostly intend to just level up, learn the game, and then bum dungeons from my guild so I can learn that aspect.

Hey, it is better to frustrate the people you know than the people that don’t know you, simply because death threats from friends are so much more cuddly :-)

Cheers.

Ahh, I was under the impression that mail was across characters. Found it in my mail of my alternate.
I am not sure if the other Luck item disappeared but it is far more likely that I used it and forgot.

Thanks for that mate.

Disappearing MF consumables?

I opened my mail and saw that I had like 5 “click to consume” objects that increased Magic Find. Since I was not up to date on what exactly they did, I didn’t grab them from my mail nor use them because I was worried they were for one character (I was on an alternate).

I got another for completing a daily achievement and noticed it said account. I looked in my mail and noticed the things were not there. I logged off the character to look on my alternate character, thinking I may have taken them. They were not there as well. When I got back on the character that finished the daily achievement, the item that increased MF was gone.

I am fairly certain (at least 80%) that I didn’t use any of these items. Did they just disappear completely? I am currently at 1% Magic Find overall and only have 560ish Achievement Points (started like two weeks ago). Am I missing something here?

I suggest NOT picking a tall race if you can like how the other races look. Tall races have camera troubles when trying to do certain jumping puzzles. My Charr took like 2 hours to do Troll’s End when my Human took like 10 minutes.

Asura probably fit the best with the Engineer as they are the Gnomes/Goblins of this game; they invent stuff. Charr Iron Legion also works as they are the big hulking sociopaths that build cities and weapons out of metal.

Radiance 15 is the most important thing I can say about Guardians. I am just level 58 but leveling to 40 was so much more annoying compared to later when 15 Radiance was open. Getting Might, Blind, Vulnerability, and a lot of damage on an attack is simply so great AND having it recharge is worth its weight in gold.

I have been just using a Greatsword. Between Justice, Greatsword 3’s blind, and Aegis I have a difficult time dying. I can kill Veteran enemies and take no damage. Open with Greatsword 3, Enemy miss, Justice Blinds them, Enemy miss, Aegis blocks the next hit, the enemy is either dead or close to it. If I am feeling cute, I can use Retreat/F3 to get another Aegis and use the Elite skill that recharged Virtues to gain another Blind + Aegis. I like how the class avoids damage through effects rather than with a huge HP and mitigation pool.

I am doing the rude thing and bumping:

I understand (I think) that leveling Conditional Damage is not the best as you don’t do as much damage as quickly with the necessary ramp up time compared to pure Power. As such, what kind of weapons should I try to use?

I started like 10 days ago and leveled a Guardian. I have enjoyed playing him but I want to add a Ranged type champion. I know that any champion can go Ranged but the Guardian’s Ranged capabilities seem heavily lacking as they are more for a Support type thing. I like being Support but sometimes it would just be nice to kill things from a distance.

I know the answer is “well, any class” but what is a good Ranged Profession? What Profession can solo without me feeling the desire to rip out my hair? How are they in WvW or dungeons later on?

Any advice in this regard would be awesome.

I have only been playing like a week. I wanted to try a different class than my Guardian. Engineer looked interesting.

What kind of equipment or traits should I use when I am making the push up to 40 and than 60? I kinda thought that using Grenades sounded cool but was wondering what would level me up without too much heartache or frustration.

Have a good day.

I wanted to finish the monthly thing. Considering I had just started like a week ago, I obviously didn’t have time to get all the salvage. I also didn’t want to do dungeons or WvW because I was and am still learning how to play. So, Jumping Puzzles.

I did quite a few of them but got utterly and totally stuck on Troll’s End with my max height, max size Charr. After I finished it in 2 hours, my blood pressure was probably to dangerous levels. I got fed up with them and just decided to run around in WvW and fail utterly. I finally got the 50 kills.

I decided to try on my smallest size Human necromancer. Took me 7 minutes. The camera wasn’t stuck in the wall the entire time so I didn’t have to make jumps from memory after watching videos of people do it.

The camera isn’t even the biggest issues. When you jump with a tall race so close to the ceiling, it looks like you only jump about 3 inches; almost like a fidget. You know the first jump you have to take after dropping from the ceiling and walking across the boards? As my Charr, I couldn’t tell if I was stuck to far into the corner and not really jumping or I was doing a full jump and the camera was making me think it was just a figet. With my Charr, I failed to make that first jump 27 times. Yes, I counted. The jump was effortless with Small McTiny.

When you are making the jumps surrounded by the stalagmites as a big Charr, it looks like you are stuck in the wall. The camera goes off center. I failed those jumps at least four times apiece.

I only had to repeat it twice with my Human, both because of my own mistakes. With my Charr, I lost count how many times I failed and had to start over from the beginning. I highly doubt I just got so much better after doing it once with my Charr that I was able to do it quickly with my Human…

Please look into this. It is ruthlessly unfair for players who are bigger races. If you have done the puzzle with a smaller race only, try it on a Charr or Norn.

Be well.

Thanks for all the advice. I was just playing around with a Necromancer and just felt that minions were turds.

So the best bet is using Wells and such? What about traits for leveling? If you would be so kind, explain what each trait means. 9 days total played does not an expert make.

Be well.

Necromancers, or the equivalent, are always some of my favorite classes in games. I love the DoT type classes and I like having pets. I have been playing my Guardian and have enjoyed being the guy that pretty much doesn’t die because of Blinds, Blocks, and having good Defense. Now I want to try the guy that throws out a plague and leeches from the enemy.

Now, my highest guy is like level 52. I have been playing about a week so I could really use some advice on what is the best way to go about slaughtering dudes and leveling. I started one and noticed that pets were an utter joke. If I had to describe what they were like in a single word, that word would be “weenies.”

Cheers.

Sadly, I can’t get to 30 so I will have to stick with the 20’s. Basic idea is to run with a zerg, try to support them where I can, tag everyone, trying to look very non-threatening?

AzernakO.9627

So I am level 51. I am trying to get the monthly completed. I only started like 10 days ago. I don’t want to do dungeons yet as I feel I would be a hindrance, I am no where near being able to complete the Monthly Living World Category, there is no way I could salvage 242 Salvage in 60 hours, and after doing the Troll’s End Jumping Puzzle as a max height Charr I am so angry that I want to murder people.

So that is exactly what I am going to do. I am going to go for the 50 WvW kills because I think it will make me less angry than having to do another jumping puzzle.

I have no idea how WvW works, nor have I done any kind of thing in this game short of basic leveling. Is there something I should know ahead of time? Where should I put my oh-so numerous 41 Traits?

Cheers.

I don’t really switch weapons as the Greatsword has been a killing machine. I tried out Hammer for a while but just found the animation slow and sloppy which made my Kitty look lethargically slow. I unlocked all my weapon skills aside from Staff and Trident, though I do have the speed boof from Staff.

I am dropping the 10% damage protection for Save Yourself for a little while. It will really speed me up. I couldn’t care losing 25% of my damage on my attacks to drop Bane Signet yet. It has let me killing entire groups with Spin to Win and Blind.

Thanks for all the advice. I do like how the Guardian is made. Low HP but throws out a dozen “that didn’t hit me.” Makes going all Power and Precision safe (so far).

So I hit level 45. Jeez is 15 Radiance really nice. The amount of mitigation it adds is frightening. Providing I can kill at least one thing in a group before they take too many hits, I can pretty much take no damage when killing groups. I can see why it is “Get 15 Radiance; nothing else matter as much.”

I am curious what utility skill I should be using. So far it is Signet of Resolve (having played around on my dad’s warrior, I will say free condition removal is worth its weight in gold), Bane for the like 20% extra damage it gives for my abilities at this level, and then the others I pretty much have just left because I have no idea. Retreat for the sanity thing when traveling but for actually “let’s kill stuff”, I am clueless.

Someone mentioned that my damage seemed low but I have nothing to base it on. I am just trying to get a grasp on the class before I get too high level for my own good.

Cheers.

I am getting to the point that I am able to get into dungeons. The situation is that I am not even in two weeks of playing yet so I have little idea what I am supposed to do while in a dungeon.

I have just been leveling as Greatsword with three signets just because I didn’t need to activate them. Is there a specific reason why Guardians are wanted for dungeons that I should know about?

Thanks for the advice. I can see the power of Radiance. “I click this button, you miss, I do a lot more damage with a single hit. With t5 points here, I hit even harder. Oh and when you die, I do it to your friend over there.” Neat

What do I do before 40 and that opens up though? I just have 0/10/0/5/0 at level 25. I like the Vigor thing for more Rolling Happy Fun Time, Hmmmm! and Signet Mastery makes my Heal come back faster. I have no idea where to go from there though. I don’t use Virtue of Justice that often because I kill so many things so quickly that the Passive is better. I do use it for single tough guys though; having two Blinds and Aegis is quite silly.

But where do I go from here? I like the Passives too much to warrant getting the “when using Signet, does X” so I am kinda lost.

For everyone who has welcomed me to the game with friendly advice, I greatly appreciate it.

OP’s Son here:

He seems to take so much damage and die so effortlessly. With my Guardian, I can just kind of sit there and use my Greatsword to turn a group into pieces. He is generally getting beat to oblivion as I am still doing fairly well.

Is there a way that he could still do decent damage without getting waffle stomped? Any advice on gear or anything? So far, he is using Signet of Healing, Precision, Power, and For Great Justice wit the +Precision per Signet trait.

Hello everyone. I am shockingly new to this game. This is how it happened: my dad said “Your sister is playing this game. I am going to try it out too.” Since games are something that my father and I have always played together and enjoyed wonderfully, I figured I would get the game too. My cousin said “You like playing things that don’t die and are really annoying right?” “Absolutely!” “Yeah, go Guardian.”

So I am playing a Guardian for a grand total of 5 days. I like the class; love the defensiveness. Been using a Greatsword so far because I love the Blind and the Spin to Win. However, I am slowly getting up there in levels (like 20 at the moment) and am sensing that the wheels on my little train are going to come flying off if I have absolutely no idea what to do. This game has less of a “training wheel” session as some other games I have played so I am a little lost.

So far, I have kinda, sorta followed http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgQ7Gp9cosw and http://www.guildwarsinsider.com/the-vanguard-guardian-leveling-1-40/ , have 4 points in Radiance and 5 points in Honor and am still using a Greatsword. I was wondering how a Hammer compared to a Greatsword for leveling (I believe the video suggests hammer simply because it is preference for the video maker) or how I should change traits and skills for a Greatsword. I like using the two-handers simply because it strokes that little ego button in my brain that makes me feel like a bad daddy.

For Skill I have been using Signet of Revolve (Heal, Condition removal), Bane (+Power), and Judgement (couldn’t think of anything else; taking less damage is more better.)

ANY advice, ANYTHING would be highly appreciated. I am enjoying the game but am really lost overall. I am not a novice to MMO’s but I am sure everyone can sympathize with the feeling of drowning involved with entering a new game.

Thank you.
