First off, english not being my main language, I’d want to make sure that in saying
“entitled to a legendary” i mean players that feel its their right to get one, that
they have kind of a claim to it.
And it seems you guys didnt get my point, i didnt want to just start an opposive thread
to all the threads about precursor drop-rates, i just wanted some input or discussion
going on the general idea behind legendaries, so to speak. What i tried to ask above, is when 50%ish of the legendary is RnG (getting the precursor from mystic forge), why do people feel they have a right to get it, if they dont get it from the mystic forge?
In other games where you got raids for instance, you got specific items that only drops
from certain bosses in the raid instance, and there is no other way to get it than from that boss-drop. Ive personally raided alot in other games, and some raid-instances i’ve been raiding regurarly for more than a year without getting the weapon i need from last boss, cause it simply wont drop. Then im on vacation for a week and the new guy in guild gets in on his first raid. This is an example of how things work in many other games, and there is only one reality, that if it doesnt drop, i wont get it.
Obviously we can all shout and scream about how bad RnG is, but at the moment the fact is that you can only get it from being lucky in the mystic forge, unless you got 300g to spend at the TP. And very few post have
touched on this subject, but one that has is the OP at the sticky which makes some great points. The “legendary” in a legendary weapon doesnt only translate to it looking cool, it translate to the quality of the weapon, and most importantly the rarity. Legendary weapons are not only the hardest weapons to get, but its the rarest weapons out there, and with a set recipe they wouldnt be rare anymore, only require alot of time.
I just wanted to see some other posts than “RnG stinks, kitten RnG kitten, give us a
recipe now” etc. Id like to see why people think they should get it if it doesnt “drop”
for them. I wanted to see peoples thoughts on the subject they are complaining
about, and not an endless list of how to improve how it currently is, which is why
“i felt entitled to make a new thread”.

im not trying to argue wheter the way to obtain a legendary as it is, is perfect or not, cause its always improvements to be made, in all aspects of a game. Im simply asking a question; if/why people feel they are entitled to a legendary (if this is the case), so no need to be a kitten rain
and i did say that you could throw in weps in MF after you’ve gotten your legendary to try and make some profit, which is something i personally plan to do atleast, which would still keep precursors on the TP.
and btw is funny that you start with “this again?” on a post that doesnt whine and QQ about precursor droprates <3
First off, i do not have a legendary weapon yet, but every day im abit closer then
the day before, and even tho it’s slow, its steady. This post isnt coming from
a legendary-owner wanting to “bashthosenubs” that havent got one
So, no matter where i go and which post im reading on this forum concerning legendaries,
and in particular their precursors i can’t help but get the feeling that the general
opinion, or rather the general “mindset” of this game’s community is that they are all
entitled to a legendary. I really cannot understand how this could be the case, as
legendary weapons do not give any bonuses at all, and most importantly does not give
any player an edge over others. Legendary weapons are simply a cool looking weapon,
and that it looks cool and different is the only thing that differs these weapons from
other weapons. The day your character is wielding a legendary weapon, it displays to
other players that you are a really active player which have sacrificed alot of time
to obtain something that looks amazing. I personally come from other games where the road to getting top-of-the-line gear takes ages, getting the best weapons are something that doesnt happen to some players no matter how much they play, and the endless farm for gear needs to be done for every single armor-piece from all different sets. And if you dont do this farm, you will have really bad stats compared to other people.
Coming to this game, and being able to fully gear up my character with best-in-slot gear withing a couple of days of hitting lvl 80, then reading hundreds of posts of people
complaining about the only single thing in this game which requires grinding, and only
gives you a “visual edge” is simply mindblowing.
And then i go on and read about people that have used 100-200-300g on rares/exotics to throw in the mystic forge without getting anything, which puts me in a place where i am unsure of wheter i should laugh or cry. This amount of money is more then most people in this game have obtained by now, and if you’ve managed to come up with that amount of money in this short amount of time, you are far “better” then most players at making money. So what you should do is continue that, buy the precursor, make the legendary, AND THEN you can gamble with the mystic forge and sell whatever you get for profit.
So my question to you guys, is looking at other games where grinding is actually mandatory to be on par with not only others but with what the game’s content requires, how come there is so much whining in this game about a visually different weapon? Typing this actually feels stupid, but do people actually feel entitled to a legendary weapon? And if the answer is yes my question is; WHY?
dont know about glowing ones, but personally i think the orrian travelers dagger looks imba, its rather big so looks almost like a small “dual-edged” sword.. dualwield those and you look kitten
Was wondering if the obsidian shards from Temple of Balthazar is soulbound or account bound?? cannot find the answer anywhere and it would be great help if someone that’s already bought them could answer
i totally agree with this, until Anet can manage to fix this properly, an alternate vendor should be available somewhere else, may it be another place in the Orr zones or in a hub, just make it possible to get the items he’s selling one way or another..
people need to realize that every single time they put 4 weapons into the mystic forge, they have the same chance of getting a precursor.. its not like after you’ve thrown 100 swords in, the chances are high of you getting a Dusk for instance.. this being RnG, the chance of you getting a precursor is equally LOW, every single kitten time!
yes, it is more likely that after 1000 weapons, you will have gotten a precursor, but the CHANCES are not higher, and its actually a huge difference.. seing people complain and complain as they throw more and more weps in, believing their chances are so high the next try is so sad.. some of you might put one million greatswords in without getting a Dusk but people dont seem to realize this, they think that after putting x amount in, their chances are close to a hundred percent..
do yourself a favor and dont HOPE for a legendary, dont buy up 1000 weapons simoultaneously to throw in, sitting there the whole time just hoping and hoping and hoping!! just play the game and save up gold, and whenever you feel lucky, buy 4, 8 or 12 weapons to give it a shot; and if you fail you’ve only “wasted” max 2g.. this wont demotivate you as much, and its actually no lower chance of you getting a precursor this way, as its all about luck!
as a side note, i do belive they should change the precursors;
they should make them account bound, so no one could make a kittenloads of money just by being lucky, and they should increase the droprate by like 1 percent or so, they should still be rng imo, as if theres a 100% recipe, everyone will have a legendary in the end, and then its not legendary anymore is it?
i got my Dusk on first try.. just thought id might be lucky and get an exotic and make a gold or two, but ye;
rares – 4
precursor – 1
oh. so the gift which requires the bloodstone shard is not soulbound?? in this case thanks alot for info, and please look past my stupid post)))
Im in the process of crafting a legendary weapon for my guardian, however as my ranger got 220 skillpoints i figured i could buy the bloodstone shard on that character, and give it to my guardian.. When talking to “Miyani” it only says that the Bloodstone Shard is a trophy.. So i spendt 200 skillpoints to buy it on my ranger, only to see its soulbound and having wasted 200 skillpoints..
I dont see in the first place why it would be soulbound, account bound ofc, but soulbound? Its so much farming required to get a legendary weapon so atleast being able to get some of the materials required on your other characters should be possible.
Or ATLEAST make it say soulbound on the item before you buy it so we are aware of this..
Reason behind this post is the new guardian changes, in which Anet basically re-arranged the placement of the greatsword abilities.. some of you might say this is no issue, and you will adjust to the new one in no time, and as this might be true, after kittenloads of hours playing a character, you dont just get used to the “hotkeys”, but they also feel most “effective”..
I really liked how it was setup, with auto#1, symbol#2, whirl#3, leap#4 and pull#5..
when this has all changed, im still able to play my guardian, and i dont believe ive turned into a complete cripple cause of this, however something feels abit off..
I know Anet have gone out and said they dont support customUIs etc, and that this never will be implemented in the game, due to this giving some players and un-fair advantage over others.. I dont agree with this, tho I understand where it comes from and Anet’s reasoning behind it..
And in this case, what i would really like to see, is simply the ability to arrange your abilities from 1-5 in any order that you like.. If I’d like to for instance have my leap all the way to the left on the #1 slot, and the symbol all the way to the right at the #5 spot, i should be able to have this; as this would imo make it more “fun/appealing/visually pleasing” or whatever you want to call it, and it would not give me an advantage over someone that did not do this..
Implement a hotkey for locking/unlocking the UI, (shift+L for instance) and when its unlocked we may mouseclick and drag the 1-5 abilities anywhere on the 1-5 bar..
I dont think this would be a major problem to implement, and i think it would make a lot of people happy; as Gw2 is yet the only game ive played where you cannot change where you’re abilities are located..
if F2 is the first ability a pet uses once its swapped in, it got good reaction time..
and with 5points in beastmastery, getting zephyrs speed, its really not that hard getting those F2 abilities to hit, atleast not the charging ones like lynx.. and there will always be times while kiting, the opponent stops to either change direction or use targetted ability or whatever, and its the timing of petswap with zephyrs and the F2 at this moment which makes them hit most of the time imo..
lately tho, ive been running mostly with boonpet and brownbear on follow just for buffing and surviveability, cause most pets die superfast if you send them in anyways.. so on this part i really agree with you, pets should get alot of aoe-resistance, so they dont randomly die in 1 second, but if targetted they should melt..
can anyone link this one master build of all builds btw??
ive never heard of this; im playing around alot, trying out lots of different builds and combinations and im still doing rather good in pvp..
and to say pets are entirely useless is really not true.. if used correctly melee pets will hit, for instace the lynx, or if you dont manage you can use a ranged one like the devourers.. and you also got awesome boon-pets like the red moa (fury) or jungle stalker (might) to buff yourself and the grp, which you can have on follow and dont need to hit anything at all to be useful..
tbh, if you have 5 seconds on a thief you should definitely kill him..
that time is enough to kill even two thiefs i think
dodge, bubblesignet or “protect me” as he goes in hide or steals so you avoid the backstab, and simply press zephyrs.. the autoattack alone usually melts them in my experience..
As for other classes, i think rangers do well; they’re not any worse then the others in 1v1 imo.. zephyrs can give you some kitten burst with your autoattack, and remember to stick your pet at them aswell as the pet gets quickenss to.. and dont forget to use your pet abilities, there’s some really nice ones out there..
with quickness, my lynx does almost equal dmg as me so dont neglect your pet..
you also got other defensive stuff like condition cleanse with brownbear or fear with the wolf.. i think theres nothing wrong with ranger 1v1..
as for 2v1, or 2v2, people should use their AXE.. seeing people complaining about other weapons for ranger is sad.. yes the swords are kinda lame, but the axe/warhorn combination is really really strong.. and while fighting 2 players, then axe/warhorn gives you higher damage then the shorbow, due to the fact you’re actually hitting your target twice.. and if you go overkill with zephyrs you litterarly kill your target in a few seconds with axe if its not tank’ish..
i dont see the big fuzz, ranger is strong <3
Suggestions for alternative ways to get precursor weapons (legendaries)

getting the precursor should suck.. it should require sh**loads of stuff, or cost a gazillion karma, or something like that; but it shouldnt be random so one guy can get it first try by luck spending like 80 silver, and others having to pay 200g on tradepost, or even more trying to craft it themselves..
i really really REALLY want the rainbow shooting bow for my ranger, i think its one of the most awesome weapon ideas ive heard of ever.. tho, i agree with OP that it could be two skins of each weapon, a “funny” one, and an “epic” one, as taste isnt something thats shared, and im sure alot of rangers DONT want the unicorn bow for instance
Apologies for double-post, as i’ve already posted this as a response to a thread on the General Discussion forum, but then i saw the Suggestion Forum and figured it’s better suited here..
I know there isnt supposed to be raids etc in gw2, HOWEVER, its probably alot of raiders, or atleast pvErs from other games like WoW, Rift, AoC and so on, which have decided to lay off those games and come try out GW2.. Problem atm is that its not alot of content offered to these people, as the endgame is GW2 is basically WvW, and the gearing for that. So basically the only endgame for pvErs in GW2 is farming Karma, or doing dungeons; may it be to collect another set with different stats, collect another set for visual apperance or gear up their alts..
The karma-farming gets really repetative, really fast, as the different events aren’t that different. However the encounters in dungeons are way more complex, and offers way higher variety, which is something that usually keeps people from getting tired and stop playing your game..
Im sure alot of people playing your game actually want to farm dungeons, may it be for the three reasons stated above or something completely different; tho they cannot do this when you are discouraging them to do so, which is something i havent seen in any other game. Even tho players dont pay a monthly fee to play your game, it must be more profitable for Anet to have them keep playing, right?
My suggestion for the dungeons would be to remove the dungeon-specific tokens for specific gear, and implement a single “dungeon-token-currency”. Any gear from any of the dungeon-vendors should be buyable with the same dungeon-tokens.. You should also add a 30-45or60 minutes lockout once you’ve done a dungeon so you’re forced to go do another if you want to farm This way people get encouraged to experience more of your game by doing different dungeons, aswell as making it harder for bots to continuosly farm the same ones..
In this case, (or actually in any case), I also think the travel-fee should be taken away if you travel directly to a dungeon-waypoint..
I think this would be a great change, which would be alot more pleasing and fun for everyone
so my exotic gear i just got (that looks horrible), can still be transmuted? i just have to unequip it first??
i found jeweler pretty cheap to level compared to the other crafts even tho i had to use ectos.. problem with jeweler is that you get all the cost at 380ish and not all way through so it seems kinda expensive..
well i want to know the same thing as OP.. im thinking of working towards rainbowbow but i really dont want vitality and toughness.. i want power, presicion and critdmg like The Lover has; will my unicornrainbowbow have these stats aswell or will they get nasty vitality that my cute ranger dont like?? <3
WHYYY are there no checkpoints in storyquests? have happened quite a few times now, that during a story quest i crash or something, and i have to do it ALL over again.. Just now i was on the lvl 76 quest i think, where you have to protect Trahearne as he performs some kind of ritual.. I was really close to the end, when i crashed and now i have to do it all over again.. Thats like 20-25 minutes of wasted gameplay, and its kind of eeeexxtremely boring as some of these quests, this one in particular, is nothing but running from edge to edge, killing some mobs and waiting forever for trahearne to do his rituals.. I think some kind of checkpoints in story quests would be awesome, as it wouldnt force you to do stuff you JUST did, all over again, again and again..
just my thoughts
hmm.. i didnt do anything special this time around, just as every time before.. i killed absolutely every thing i saw, but that was about it.. trahearne died during the misson aswell so, hmm.. its really wierd
just did this quest.. seems to be working now
i see people cry and whine about difficulty, but what if it was a total steamroll? it wouldnt be any fun at all.. people are crying about events being to easy, cause its basically not fun to mindlessly grind something without the option of failure.. then when its about storyquests, and its something challenging, people want it nerfed?
it doesnt make sense to me at all..
im neither an elite player, however ive learned how to deal with different situations on my different classes, and therefore ive completed the storyquests aswell..
I did die alot yes, but dont you agree its much more awesome finally finishing the quest after being stuck there for a while? imo it is, and i think alot of people agree with me!
and btw, to say its impossible is total BS, thooooouuuuusaands of people have completed these quests, so if you cant, you need to play abit more, or practice abit more on your class, or get some better gear.. and to see people complaining, and then be underleveled? wtf.. one level actually matters in guild wars, its not like other mmos where u can farm lvl 50 mobs on lvl 43..
its not about being ungrateful or unpatient or whatever, its about stuff like this should REALLY REALLY work!! and if its not working, it should be top priority to fix.. like ASAP!
its not like getting to 80 in this game is all there is, its not like once you hit 80 you can start raiding etc. alot of this game is the actual way there, and if you’re getting contentblocked, its not that easy just to screw it and go back later on..
im having loads of fun just exploring, trying to get my 100% completion, but none of the zones ive been in lately have been even possible to complete, due to bugged events etc. its really frustrating trying to move on, and then you just end up in another zone with 98% complete aswell.. then when the MAIN STORY LINE QUEST, bugs aswell, it just downright sucks..
problems like this should be adressed and and worked on, fast.
