(Wvw) Hi everyone, where is the main damage source of d/p? I ask this because my backstabs dont chunk as hard as d/d and when i trade auto attacks with someone i take more damage than them. Im running full beserker with ogre runes, cav acessories and trinkets, and beserker rings. 10/30/30/0/0 or 0/30/30/0/10
Is there something wrong with my build or am i playing it wrong? Even with blindfields a gs warrior just outdpses me.

Im sure this has been answred on the forum before but i could not fond a recent thread and wanted to avoid necroing a thread. In pvp and more so in wvw, how does one ay elementalist against a glassy thief. The problems i face are: the thief stealthing when low and opening up again when you have used your dodges, the thief dealing more damage than i can handle then finishing me off with heartseekers while i heal in water, and not being able to land rtl, burning speed and other non targeted abilities because the thief is in stealth. He reopens after hes stealted and i have 3 seconds to hit them before he nrestealths. I can either get in two lightning whips or a ride the lightning before hes gone again.
Ive tried running tankier setups but he chews faster through me than i can to him.

Where did all the dp thieves go to? Is the playstyle still as viable in wvw ? If so what has changed and how does one build it now? Im running full zerkers with centaur runes. Not sure about traits.

Pretty sure the only way to obtain cavaliers ARMOR is from fracatals. Perhaps ascended crafting. Correct me if i am horribly wrong.

Wvw is a whole other story. Most classes outperform elementalist in terms of dueling unless the player is very skilled; like serane. This is because the map is huge and there are no real ‘safe sones’. You are pretty much on your own if you are jumped by someone forcing you into a fight or flight situation. The latter which is difficult due to the massive landscape but a ridethelightning is very usefulto escape. This is why thieves are so powerful (i mained theif before ele) . Their stealth allows them to wait and kitten the situation whether to go in or not. If they decide to go in and try start losing they can simply use their stealth and blinks to escape and jume the enemy. Warriors can just charge and spin away. Unfortunately ele only really has ridethekightning and lightning flash the former which is used for fightig meaning you dont have the luxyry or being able to escape ifthings arent going so hot for you.

I feel like evasive arcana is a great tool to have at your disposal. Despite it bring ‘standard’ its really worth to have it with you. Dodging an ability when your in water will grant you a heal. If you dodge in earth when theres a fire field nearby then you gain might. I love signet of restoration right now. I dont have to focus on healing. I stay alive by casting spells and doing damage and i try to kill them before they kill me. If thry engage on me i will fight back with all i have (save for tornado as that is for large scale fights where we dont do so good and for defending points) if i know im going yo die THEN i gtfo and only then. Its much to do with practice. The way i see it, if they have enough damage to kill me before i can fight back then it means they are glass and if i get the jump on them they die. If you ate experienced with other classes you know what their weAkness is. I mained thief before ele and now i have no issues with them as i know when they will try to backstab me and that to burst me they must be just as easily bursted.
You are right in that its a matter of practice. You will eventually know what you can fight and what you cant. Remember, to avoid sitting in water to stay alive put the pressure back on them with damage OR use arcane shield and continue to put pressure on them. The only time they will stop attacking you is when you force THEM on the defensive or they die so make something happen.

Mathematically if the circle that the original meteors fall has a radius of 360 and a a single meteor blast has a radius of 180 when it lands, when and if said meteor lands at the very end of the 360 circle have of the 180 blast (90) will be inside the original circle and the other half outside.
Given that this can happen on all sides of the 360 circle the true diameter potential would be 90+360+90=540
Emphasis on potential radius since the meteor stones fall in random place within the circle of the skill.

I have found success in hotjoin pvp and solo arena pvp by running d/d strength runes and a zerker trinket (start with knights or soldiers if your not comfortable with a low hp pool). Running 0/4/0/4/6 taking:
Zephyrs boon and bolt to the heart in air
Cantrip mastery and cleansing wave (think thats what its called) in water
Invigorating precision (vigor on critical hit) Elemental attunement (boon on attunement swap) and evasive arcana. Apologies for any incorrect names.
The true challenge with ele and why its such a loved class with a dedicated playerbase is because the class is difficult and requires skill. No build will give you experience so just practice and experiment in hotjoins and tweak the build until it suits you. Elementalist is a naturally difficult class that you wont get the hang of immedietly. As for why your dying or forced to run away think of what is happening. Are you dying to conditions? Try taking ether renewal or cleansing the conditions before fighting. Dying to raw damage? If you are taking that much damage with tanky stats they are probably glass and you should turn on then try to kill them before they kill you. A good combo to get you started would be air: ride the lightning, updraft (target is on the ground), shocking aura, fire: burning speed (can be combined with lightning flash when your comfortable to stack the flames under them), ring of fire, get some distance between you and the enemy; 500 units or the distance of a norn lying down on the ground, fire grab, then either go into water and use frozen burst for the blast finisher or earthquake (groundpound!) in earth to stack might.

Edit: i run mistform, arcane shield and lightning flash on utilities. Tornado skill 3 can keep enemies off a point long enough for allies to come or for you to de/cap it.
Try trlling us what your running so far in terms of weapons traits, runes, sigils and trinkets. ^^

Before i used to hate warriors in wvw and pvp. I feel with the ferocity changes all classes took a hit including ele however ,because eles rely less on crit and more on power and survivability, wearing the enemy down gradually, they came out less affected in wvw that is. Their build diversity allowed them to get around the straight zerker build that other classes relied on. Speaking in pvp, pvt Warriors with hammers arent that bad. Its the hambows that are stupid.
Also, eles have 4 times as many skills as another class. Its just the way ele is that we have to press 3 more keys to achieve something another class can do with 1.

Short Analysis on current PvP Dagger Dagger elementalist:
Patch notes i will be talking about
Elementalist
Burning Speed: This skill now evades attacks.
Frozen Burst: This skill is now a blast finisher.
Signet of Restoration: Removed the split on this skill so that the signet passive heal amount will be increased in PvP to match the current PvE amount.
Armour of Earth: Reduced the recharge from 90 seconds to 75 seconds.
Superior Rune of Strength
+25 power
+10% Might Duration
+50 Power
+15% Might Duration; 25% chance when struck to gain might for 10 seconds. (Cooldown: 5 seconds)
+100 Power
+20% Might Duration; +7% damage while under the effects of might.
Earth
Stone Heart: You cannot be critically hit while attuned to earth.
Evasion on burning speed has provided a bit more survivability however this change is rarely noticeable due to burning speed being used more offensively than defensively. When used to escape, this evade helps mitigate damage you would have received.
Frozen burst receiving a blast finisher was very beneficial to main-hand builds. This allows the elementalist another blast finisher to stack might. The addition of more blast finishers works well with Rune of Strength which extends duration of might and provides more damage when under the effects of might.
Armor of earth cool down reduction is nice. Does not change a lot though so continue using it as normal. A simple QoL change that doesn’t change a lot :P
Change to sigil of restoration nerf reverted making it worth considering over ether renewal in situations where the enemy team lacks condition users. However, with the meta taking a large lean towards condition builds (hambow warriors, condition necros, condition engineer build, occasional p/d thief, etc. ) the loss of ether renewal may prove too much as elementalist is still quite susceptible to conditions.
D/D builds are beginning to step away from 30 in the arcane tree. Blinding ashes is not worth taking as the blind being limited to single target is not useful enough in PvP skirmishes. Lightning Rod can be considered but the only interrupts are shocking aura, updraft and earthquake (ground pound!). (please tell me if i have missed any) making it a bit of a waste of skill points to invest into. The damage gained does not warrant the money spent for the trait or the trait points.
Stone heart is quite underwhelming in the face of the condition meta. Diamond skin builds to counteract this condition meta are quite useful in PvP and WvW but yet to be explored.

Since the feature pack update the introduction of the new Rune of Strength gives Ele a lot more damage output than before due to the ability to stack might without purposely utilising combo fields. This gives the elementalist more damage and gives might a longer duration. The changes to runes has nerfed the classic 2/2/2 boon duration build and this provides a healthy and possibly better alternative to boon duration.

Conclusion:
Elementalists are in a better state than previously. The introduction of improved strength runes allows elementalists to reach a higher damage output and consistently maintain might stacks. Assisting with maintaining might stacks is the implementation of a blast finisher on frozen burst (skill 3 dagger mainhand) and the improved might duration from the rune. Signet of restoration nerd has been reverted and can be considered when the enemy lacks conditions. Traits opened up more room to explore with different builds especially to counter the condition meta.
Super tldr; D/D Elementalist is fine in PvP. Go experiment and have fun
Rather short analysis for anyone wondering how this patch affected dagger dagger elementalist. These are my thoughts so do not feel like you have to agree with them. If you have constructive criticism you would like added or you stronkly disagree with what i am saying feel free to post it below.
(This analysis did not cover ALL the changes to d/d elementalist. There are many builds that use traits or gear i did not cover. Analysis was based off the classic 0/x/x/x/30 build and how it changed.)

From a wvw context focusing on dueling and roaming what are the thinga an sd thief will excel at compared to a dp or dd thief and how should sd be played in a duel? Ie rotations, what abilities to focus on, class specific strategies, etc
Also what should my gear and accessories focus on?

Ive experimented a bit and i think im fine about gear so what do i do in a fight?
Lets say i see an enemy running past me and i have an opening strike on him. What should i do? Also, are there any tips for going up against a d/d or d/p thief because im varely tankier than them but they burst me harder. Where does my damage come from?

After exploring dd and pd thief i have moved on to try wvw sword dagger thief. I am familiar with the mechanics of sd but have no idea on the traits, gearing and combos\wvw playstyle. I am using a valkyrie set with exquisite ruby jewels with 2 knights earings with zerker jewels and the rest of the acesorries zerker.

What should i build on my dagger pistol thief Equipment wise. I already have the trinkets and acessories sorted out but i don’t know what to take my gear. Im using valkyrie stats emblazoned armor and thinking of putting superior runes of the scholar on them but they are extremely expensive. What other alternatives are there to the rune of the scholar? Im thinking of beryl orbs but they seem kinda ‘cheap’.

hi everyone. I was just wondering if it was possible to craft an emerald orichalcum earring but not ‘of the knight’. I saw someone have an emerald orichalcum earring of the berserker and deduced the only possible way was to either have an emerald orichalcum earring then infuse it with an exquisite ruby or infuse the emerald orichalcum earring of the knight with an exquisite ruby. But by performing the first option i don’t waste the exquisite emerald that goes into it.

Hey everyone!
I recently got into wvw and been playing thief. However when i play dagger pistol thief i cant seem to 1v1 anyone. Should i be switching to dagger/dagger because i feel my damage is too low and they just out damage me. Also, i have two beserker daggers that are around level 77 and when used together out damage my beserker dagger(lvl 77) + exotic pistol. Why is this?
Tl;dr : is d/d better than d/p in wvw? Some tips on dagger pistol would also be great. Ive checked out alot of videos.

I strongly agree with Harbinger. I love the solo queue option and even if i’m pretty trash against all the good players it provides a challenge compared to pub pvp in which you can dominate quite easily. I’m not the best at it though with like 11 wins compared to 20 losses >___>

a solo queuer may find it very difficult for premades but at this stage there are little premades anyway, or at least at low ranks. An experienced player can hold their own but it can really go either way. That being said, my win loss in tournaments from just solo queueing is pathetic. something like 15 wins and 25 losses.

It is not a crime to intrude on someone’s 1v1, after all a pvp server is to be played on by many people. It is however, very courteous and expected to leave the people alone as Anet has provided many different servers that other people can play on. You are doing nothing wrong, some people just get mad for no reason. What raptured has said is pretty much correct,
