I gave up any hopes ANet would take even the first of the thousand steps of redesigning the ranger profession into something at least close to acceptable.
But now I finally think it looks more like some infantile revenge thing on the ranger players for calling the situation by its name.
So ArenaNet, feel comfortable on your well earned throne of disgraceful balance service while I fortunately don’t have to play your game…
…
/reinitiate disregard protocol
That phrase defeats its purpose as there is no grass to be less green on the rangers side…
…the present day ranger is a wasteland.
Doesn’t mean there can’t be no people to favour a wasteland, though
I knew it was too good to be true.
Even if we get the nebulous other pushes (Longbow+Pet reliability) I already expect other classes will get more love – making tomorrows patch another relative nerf for us rangers.
Though I also expect the rage in the ranger forum to stop because the last competive pvp+wvw player will resign. Be sceptical and call me a pessimist, but thats what IS going to happen…
Are you working there? Otherwise I must think you are just speculating cause the TO just proved your theory wrong…
to hell with rng!
first that rng-karka-event that granted several players thousands of free gold flooding the WvW battlefield with undeserved commanders.
now people that get thousands of rings…
… and me always being the idiot forced to grind a bazillion hours to get where some players reach not even knowing their classes…
to the pillory! with those that had the glorious idea to turn gw2 into an ordinary MMO-grinder-mishmash
Well, if they can mess up pet animations at least it means they must be somehow working on pets in the first place…. I like
Dont understand why ANet is so stubborn.
It makes no sense. It should be top priority stuff and yet they do literally everything to make sure we can’t but believe it will be completely ignored. The gap between any reasonable way to care about it and the way it is ignored for months is so big, that i really can’t imagine how to explain – let alone understand it.
Yes, it might be tricky to sport a perfect fix for the ranger but that really shouldn’t mean no fix. Making it a competive class by just pushing its signature weapon overall longbow-dps like 30-100% (depending on your opinion if it should be a competive class or just a playable pvp class) could have bought you the time to make a proper fix without telling all ambitious ranger players: gtfo!
Instead ArenaNet chose maximum frustration:
nerf-hammer => no fix => finally announce fix => do nothing of the anounced, instead another relative nerf (compared to other classes pushes) => complete silence ignoring major rage

I agree with op and Rhydian.
The initial motivation to play GW2 was the promising WvW and I like the art design of the game. Its still fun for me but its hard to ignore the extremely bad class balance for high-end players. Its broken to a point I cant understand. It was well balanced until more and more players mastered their gear and pvp-skills about 6 weeks ago. Imho it now cries: hotfix! this game is broken! High-end wardens and high end thieves erease equally well played rangers within seconds. The gamechanging utility to place portals is given to one single class that is already heavy loaded with utility and without any setoff in “hard stats”. And this portal is commonly exploited in WvW to make big groups of players invisible attackers by stressing the servers.
The thing that really annoys me is how slow ArenaNet reacts to the signals of the community asking for urgent tweaks. Instead they focus on making new content. But for me its a pvp-game with pve gimmicks. Seriously how can the devs be so slow in fixing balance and pvp mechanics (mesmer portals, overpowered damage, broken longbow etc.). I dont ask for perfection in balance, just make a big leap in fixing it please.

Definately no fix…
I have a feeling they might have slightly tweaked some vars a bit about a week ago but still you can sidestep-evade like 90% if you concentrate on that one ranger attacking you.
Before i come to my specific point:
Arenanet, fix the ranger, fix the longbow! All rangers want bows and actually hit with it. Do it now – no more idling about it – just do it.
The ranger has no signature feature. He can trait range but that doesnt work (misses). He cant hide, hes not the fastest, has no ports, he is the worst dps, has no prominent support skills… the list goes on. I see nothing prominent in the ranger. The only reason i play it for is the concept which in fact is just a dream generated by the tradition of this archetypical class.
Ask your self: Is there any more substantial reason to play the ranger? Any signature features?
The ranger is about bows. Last patch you promised to fix the ranger. But the only thing the devs didnt even touch was the completely broken bow performance. I dont care about the sword and spear stuff. The ranger is about hunting: bows, knives and swift feet. But actually all of that is broken.
In a film you would laugh about a character that performs like the gw2-ranger: Five people running through the wilds. Three of them heavy armed soldiers and two in leather. One of them barely keeps up with his platemailed colleagues. Then they stop and hide behind a rock spying on an enemies camp. The fast man in leather turns into dust and disappears ghosting several enemies seconds after. Then the archetypical archer appears on-screen… and misses in like 6 of 10 scenes, actually killing no one. Between every of this scenes you see one of the other soldiers randomly picking up ranged weapons from the ground – blowing up stuff, hitting with every shot making things burn and explode. Then the camera focusses back on the Archer…
You would seriously think: What a wuss!
And thats exactly how playing ranger feels…
