Been having this issue that just started today where after running gw2 for a couple of minutes, I get a black screen, which after a few seconds dissapates and leaves me with a highly reduced performance on the game. I am running a repair of the game now, trying to see if that helps. Can anyone else shed some light on what may be happening here? Ive tested it with games like Dota 2 as well which doesnt seem to make it do that. Temps also seem to be at regular levels
GPU: XFX Radeon HD 6950

Totally agree, we could use more build diversity, but from a caster standpoint everything is essentially perfect now with the exception of Warriors.
I know I did this on the stream already today, but I really wanted to reiterate just how grateful I am for the overwhelming support all of you guys have given me over the past week. Its been an amazing ride, and I am looking forward to riding it for a long time.
At least I got 1 fan lol, thanks blu <3
No worries! Hope my guild can get a spot on weekend though
Shoot me an email. We’re kind of tight this weekend and limited during the week due to my work and school schedule, but I’ll see if we can fit you in. DrBlu42@Gmail.com
And he still won’t let me cast his team
Thanks BLU !
Good luck on your chemistry exam
Oh yea I should probably get on that
Figured I would start doing it here as well as I already do this on the reddit posts. After each day of scrim casting Ill be separating the games and linking them here for anyone to watch…. so here are todays VODs
TP vs IRON
MiM vs TMO
- Game 1 We had to start this one mid game because of an issue with the server where we were kicked out
- Game 2
Harl vs IDL
- Game 1
- Game 2 (the set had to be cut short after this due to issues with OBS, apologies to both of the teams)
Thanks for tuning in again tonight guys it was real fun doing it and we hope to be doing more next week!
Thanks guys so much for the support, it really means a lot, Actually getting a bit choked up reading this lol. However, you guys are forgetting Fixi!
He’s been with me nearly every cast so far, he deserves just as much recognition as I do.
Again guys, thank you so much for all the support over the last week, it really means a lot, and it has definitely convinced me that this game can still become a very strong esport.
I hope it’s not asking too much, but would it be possible for atleast after the stream is over, to make it available to watch on 480p or even put on youtube? That would make it incredibly easier to watch and even download to watch later/on travels/away from home etc.
Thanks for the great work and I sure undertand if that’s not feasible at the moment!
Talking to Zael again tonight, we need to send files between each other so it takes some time to upload them to youtube
Just wanted to open up a post for casters that tested out the mode today to leave feedback on what they thought about Spectator mode. Overall I feel that it is very well designed but there are a few quirks/missing things that could make it even better. Ill try to update this list as people make popular suggestions. (These are all in my opinion initially, feel free to argue what should be where)
Crucial
- Health Bars above characters (nameplates)
- Having the capture bar for points show up in the UI (I believe they are already working on this, but tonight it was somewhat bothersome to have to guess the cap percentage)
- The traits and gear menu should appear to the side and not directly in the middle of the screen, in case casters want to pull it up mid fight)
- KEYBINDS! Please allow us to set keybinds for spectator, this would increase efficiency immensely. A possible scheme could work like 1-10 would be players, q – y or whatever could be the eyes, and pressing shift would bring up the trait/gear display
Quality of Life For Casters
- Make point caps more prevalent (a ping a light around the icon in the UI would be enough, perhaps a sound as well (for decap as well, not just full cap)) because at the moment it is a little hard to notice things like that if you are involved in casting a big fight
- Make deaths more prevalent. At the moment I had a few people tell me it was somewhat hard to notice when members of the team were dead on the UI. Perhaps graying their name and bar out (on the sides of the UI) when they go out would improve this.
- Possibly add the “eyes” to their own section of the UI (possibly above or below the main character UI) with small text to note it’s location. At the moment trying to find some of the eyes on the mini-map is distracting and I often found myself missing them or clicking the wrong one entirely. this may solve itself with the implementation of Keybinds
- Initial Direction the “eyes” are facing: Some of the eyes I would jump to would initially be faced in an odd direction, which could lead to me being out of the loop for 3-4 seconds while i found what I was looking for
- Temple Eyes: There did not appear to be an eye overlooking the above ground mid buff; perhaps I did not see it but if there is not one there already there should!
- Clicking on mini map icons of players should put you in their POV: Ive noticed sometimes when trying to move to something I note on the minimap that if there was no eye near it I would have to guess who was at that spot, and for teams with double classes this would sometimes lead to me moving to the wrong people.
Smaller Things to Implement in the Future
- Drawing on the game: This currently exists in DOTA 2 spectator where you can draw on the world itself to illustrate things, would be AMAZING if casters were able to do this. It’s a minor thing, but a worthy suggestion nonetheless
Pls also if you are gonna stream it without having stream resolution options do it in a format that people with the average internet connection will be able to watch it without getting frame lag every few sec.
Also a bit less switching cameras would be great ..you know ,once today there was this 1vs1 and as one mesm got down there was his thief friend that came in to the resque and then..BAM..switch ..we never found out :P
Anyway gj for having the balls to be the first to do this in this game
Unfortunately having the option for multiple stream qualities is only available for Twitch partners (as it uses a lot more of twitch’s server capacity), and I have found 720p to be the resolution that most people can view. Anything below this and details start to become harder to note and some viewers may not be able to pick up on certain things. I will definitely be seeking an opportunity to fix this with twitch in the future, but for now it is something I cannot change
Definitely noted, thanks! Will be applying this over the next few weeks. Apologies for some language tonight, I was having some technical issues and they were a bit stressful for this being the largest audience I have ever had. Once again, apologies if I offended anyone.
Thanks guys. The response I got tonight was amazing! Just wanted to address a few of the concerns people had…
Technical: I believe all of these issues have been fixed, working on a new mic, but the crash at around 8:30ish was due to twitch’s servers crashing, not my own error.
Fast Talking: This really only happened because I was alone and wanted to deliver all the info I could.
Game knowledge: I have been out of the loop for about two months, but as I ease back into it I should begin to state things with more confidence soon.
Co-caster: I have two people that have signed on to stream with me already. Fixi from the first game had to go early (late in EU), but I will be with him again tomorrow. I will gladly cast with anyone wishing to try it as well. Just hit me up by email and we can talk: DrBLU42@Gmail.com
Thanks again for the amazing reaction guys… was a great first day for esports!
They had stated this awhile back that only hotjoins and customs would be open to spectating, as many have said in this thread already. Don’t expect to be able to do this at all in all honesty, iirc they said they would give certain casters access to spectate ranked matches to practice casting but no one beyond that. It makes sense and it helps to alleviate cheating
Hey guys just wanted to chime in again and remind everyone my first official stream will be tomorrow at 5PM EST (East Coast USA). Ill be jumping into the first Custom Arena that asks me, so as soon as I am live, its casting time! I hope everyone will jump in to join the action and provide feedback as I want to improve as much as possible. LETS DO THIS!
Thanks to everyone who helped me with the quality tests today. Everything should be set for tuesday!
I’m getting it as well, this tends to happen to a random group of people right before and after a patch, it should blow over within a few days
Just wanted to chime in and show off my “studio” of sorts. I’ve been setting this up over the past few weeks for general streaming but now it has a much better purpose. I can even seat a second person in the studio using the TV behind my main monitor if I wanted to do any casting in house with people.
Heres the Imgur Album: http://imgur.com/a/SuHqQ
this is not a bump. this is me askin you to please cast for this tournament- http://binarybeast.com/xGW21304240
please please please get in touch with them and talk to them about it. i want to see it do well.
I have spoken to Vonethil already about this. Grouch is currently the main caster planned for this tournament, and I respect that. If he chooses to have me as a cocaster I will of course accept, but that is his and Vonethil’s decision as they are the one’s in charge. I am working on contacting other organizers at the moment as well, ill be sure to announce when and if I am casting any of the upcoming tournaments.
Don’t waste your time this game will never be a e-sport. Take a minute and play other games and you will realize how bad GW2 would be as a es-port not only that but i very very very much doubt Anet will ever fully complete there promise of supporting the game as a e-sport.
I could care less if other games are popular and better candidates for esport games. I spent the last two months playing DOTA 2, and in the end I realized I was not enjoying it. I want to support esports. Anyone who played with me knows I am one of the most adamant supporters for esports in general and I have had a dream for over 10 years now to be apart of the esports community in a bigger way. I want to see it on TV’s all across the world and in the Olympics, and I don’t care which game is on it, I just want to see that happen. We all can support esports in our own way, and I have chosen to do it here because I feel it has a chance to become great.
Whether you agree or disagree with that is your business, but realize that I am here right now on my own terms, and I could care less about money and time, because if it has a chance of progressing the name of esports, you can be darn well sure I will be there to support it.
Hello folks, name’s BLU. Some of you may remember me. Back at launch I was one of the founding members of Team Tsunami, and I played actively until late February where I took a hiatus to get college, life, and other stuff sorted out. Well I’m happy to announce that I have been accepted to college, and now that spectator mode has arrived, I am coming back, and in a big way.
I want to cast, and i want to stream. I have experience casting getting pointers from Zael (some of you may remember him from GuildSource ) and working from games that I have saved. I have people ready to work with me, and they know everything I’ve missed over the past few months, and we are already working on our synergy as casters.
Starting on the 30th when spectator becomes available, we will be available 3-5 nights a week (pending on our IRL schedules, but never less than 3). No matter who you are (tournament organizer, team captain, nooby Mcnoobson, I don’t give a kitten) if you want your game’s casted, just ask. I want to make this game an esport (and if you have ever played with me you know that I want that to happen) , and I want to cast all of this now so that when and if this game ever shows up at DH, MLG, or anything else it can have the darn best caster combo possible.
So how do you get a hold of me and my co-caster? I’ve split this into two categories, so please follow them.
casting for scrims/casual tournaments : If I am online in game, the stream is live, or if I am on Skype (if you want my Skype ask me in game, I will give it out to anyone who is serious), so long as I am already not casting anything, just ask me, and PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE TO ASK. There is about a 90% chance I will drop whatever I am doing at that moment and jump in for you, and even if my co-caster isn’t available I’ll jump in solo, because I need the practice and I want the practice.
casting for serious/preorganized tournaments : Please email ahead of time at DrBLU42@Gmail.com at least 2 and a half weeks in advance. Ill allow for anyone to ask me for anytime at the moment and I will try to squeeze it in, but anything beyond May 15th I need prior notification for to clear up any issues with my own personal/work schedule. I also need time to set up my studio/room for the event, which is why I may not be able to do some last minute requests. Regardless, even if it is passed the 2.5 week mark ask me anyway, and I will see what I can do.
All of the casual casting will be done from my channel and while I would prefer most tournaments to be hosted from my channel as well (I want to do it similar to how TobiWanDota runs his streams) I will not mind or be bothered if you want it on your own channel. I cannot stress this enough however, just ask me regardless of the circumstances, and I will try to do whatever I can do make it work
TL;DR: I was an active player, left for a few months. I’m back now to cast, I have Guildsource with me, so ask me to cast your stuff… please
Edit: Caed has graciously donated an account that I may use for casting on NA, so I am available in both regions now!
Let’s try this esports thing one more time, and lets do it right this time.
(edited by BLU.8961)
You have two separate tourny ques at this moment. One for 3 round and one for 1 round. In a blog post you guys said that they had separate matchmaking. Paid tournaments previously demonstrated that you guys have the ’’feature’’ in place to force someone to be 5 premade players to que in to the match. You also now have a ‘’join solo’’ button.
If you piece these pieces together you get:
1.Make one tournament que ‘’join solo’’ only, 1 round
2. Make the other que ‘’submit roster’’ with 5 only , 1 roundLE VOILA!
It’s okay, we can scrap the idea of duoq for now. Put that in your ’’soon’’ basket. You can do the same for the random map generator, just keep rotating maps manually the way you guys do every 2 days or something.There. That is the solution that will allow solo players to play the game without getting stomped by teams.
So in this suggestion, people would only play as a team of 5 or by themselves. That would mean effectively disabling tournaments for people who want to play tournaments with a friend. Or two friends, or three friends, but don’t have a full team. I can’t imagine that would go over very well either.
Well dont imagine, ASK THE COMMUNITY! Its the game WE play for FUN, stop deciding what YOU think is fun for US, let US decide. We are the ones who have put 1000+ hours into the game, so at this point in all honesty I think we know what the community wants a kitten of a lot better than you guys do!
(edited by BLU.8961)
Apparently no one understands that
A) Matchmaking is in place, so the only pubstomping will be occuring at 3AM, which happens in every game anyway
B) This is the first step toward a solo que
C) Lowered entry level = more people from PvE and WvW communities actually wanting to try
Bravo Anet, I applaud this change
Well since we are being cynical….
Getting rid of the god awful ranking system that measured who had a life outside of the game and/or who could farm the best? What a horrible thing!
I disagree, at least for the time being. I dont think you guys realize how much of an effort would be required on anets part to make this happen. They have a lot of other things to worry about (like getting things that WOULD make this game an esport) before anything like this could be done
So lets get to work on what this week is supposed to be about and that is testing this new map. Lets hear what everyone thinks! Personally, from what I have seen so far I like it!
The buffs make very a very active and dynamic game, along with some surprises. no longer is the fight contained to just three areas but there are people fighting all over the map!
The map I feel may be slightly too large, but that is just an initial opinion, Ill comment again at the end of the week.
Some other things I noticed is that due to the many levels of this map Thieves and Eles may be favored over everything else just for the sole purpose of being able to move to the buffs. In addition, mid point seems far too small for the area it is contained in, leaving it favored highly for AoE classes (but this may be addressed in the Feb update?)
Ill keep editing with things I notice, like, or dislike throughout the week, but lets see what you guys have to say as well.
Put me on for Ranger and Engineer under EU 1v1 and Free Tournaments. Ill also assist with Overall strategy for frees as well.
As a side note I’d go on paids but I dont match the QP requirement, which in all honesty I dont agree with. There are plenty of great players not on that list (I know a few people that could vouch for me), and IMO a lot of bad players are on it as well. Not trying to start a witch hunt here, just saying that that may not be the best policy.
Well, I’m Canadian…
I guess they don’t want me on Desolation.
Too bad, and I was thinking about the switch too.Guess I’ll stay on Dragonbrand :*(
We can always recruit your nationality with a denouncement of your citizenship soldier.
Greetings fellow Patriots. I am general BLU of the USS ’Murica calling any and all able bodied Americans to assist our brothers across the pond…. again. We need able bodied men to transfer to DESOLATION EU for late night weekend patrol duty. Serving under my command will bring you glory, valor, and most importantly ego for our Superior country. Contact me in the field to be conscripted into our glorious army.
Non-RP: Hi there I am BLU. I have been among the SPvP community since launch and many have come to know me well as “The American that plays on the EU servers.” I have been doing this for the longest time only finding myself incredibly bored on weekend nights. I have created the guild “Were the Americans [USA]” in hopes of bringing some assistance to Desolation’s WvW (which seems to struggle late night) as well as make some friends and have some fun on the weekends.
Please note that I am starting this guild from scratch meaning we will have to build ourselves from the ground up. We will be working closely with IRON and many of the major Desolation WvW guilds as well to ensure maximum coordination. We will be playing Friday and Saturday nights starting anywhere between 9:30-10:30PM EST and going until we fall asleep.
Anyone interested contact me in game to join. Guild is currently on open invite so no application required. We will start when we get around 20-30 members, so join now! Our glory will be live streamed every night for all to see, so there will be lots of fun as well. I additionally encourage any Americans playing SPvP on EU servers to come over and give it a try to sate your boredom while we wait for ANet to get in gear with PvP features.
Just wanted to say you spelled my name wrong on the list :P
its “BLU” not “BLE” lol at http://www.twitch.tv/blu42
and I play on EU servers
Twitch.tv/blu42 Ranger, Engi mainly
The owner of gw2lfg has added tPvP (free and paid) to the list of available events to group with on the website. Everyone can use this to find that extra fifth regardless of what server they are from. This will definitely help some pick up groups formed faster and possibly in greater volume, so lets use it!
void would be good for the game.
skype drain my e-speed.
if you really need something at least use raidcall.
+1 for op
raidcall….. shudders
I dont think any rangers stream if that’s what you’re looking for, and if that’s true im sorry :/
Lucky for you I just started the other day and I think I’m going to keep doing it…. Wham
I think the NA kiddies (btw I’m American) just proved the European’s own point with these childish responses. ggwp
/thread
I am currently in Aurora Glade server and wanna transfer to a US server, does this mean I will stop receiving the chests for sure, or does it only affect some people?
Yes you will not get any chests until your US region wins match your EU wins
This game totally needs someone to self righteously claim himself as the best ranger around pretty much like what happened on “a game with dc characters in it”.
Link for reference so that everyone can see the best player of said game -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9OO7vuxAPI
I GOT THIS, give me 2 weeks and Ill be the best ranger in the universe, Vids to come
^ for NA
Big players in EU are TP (they’re not gone, just on vacation), DI, CN, Estars (still together?), SS (formerly sponsored by Eclypsia), and there are a lot of other teams on EU as well on their way up
Well, I’ll sacrifice my forum account for a few days….
Lets face it gentlemen, PvE issues are more important and the bug department obviously either isn’t competent enough to fix this bug (in which case, lol), or the big boys in ANet are too busy caring about not PvP. The Devs aren’t responding because they dont have an excuse besides saying:
“look guys, PvE bugs are more important. Haven’t you noticed they get fixed in days while yours take weeks at a time? Just wait until PvE is flawless and then we will get your bugs fixed”
And we KNOW they don’t have the balls to say that, which is more than likely the truth. Come at me ban bro
Im sorry, was I the only one not enjoying the actually complex meta for the few days mesmer clones were broken? Seriously, the game suddenly became so much better with mesmers broken. People were actually running different comps, but now that they are fixed double abusing macroing mesmers are everywhere and the meta is the same pot of frustration that it was before. You should not be able to one shot someone (whether it be from an exploit or not) and then survive 3 people at the same time through the use of invis and invulnerability for who knows how long.
What exactly would any of this accomplish? Basically nothing has changed since launch; extreme lack of viable builds within the metagame, and it’s forced by the gametype.
Absolutely nothing the players do at this moment will change anything. It’s ALL on the developers.
Obviously the majority of people DON’T want to play Conquest, or watch it either.
3v3 on the other hand; I think that would be kittening amazing in this game!!!1
At the very least, the content from people would help to spur some of the WvW or PvE population into playing SPvP
@Suzu
What are you talking about?
@Seether
I understand but I am referring to a lot more than just the lack of interest for the tournament. Very little streaming and almost no youtube content is also a factor in this argument as well
The point I was trying to make through the linked quote was that the teams complain about there not being any support of an esport (like tournaments), but when one comes along people (like the one linked) pass it off essentially contradicting their own priorities for this game
Right a tournament in a open game where many people WILL come and disrupt the tourny and will most likely be a huge pain to finish. NTY
16 participants, it would not be hard to get 8 of them to come into the same room at once. Please read all the content of my post before worthlessly putting it down
The point I was trying to make through the linked quote was that the teams complain about there not being any support of an esport (like tournaments), but when one comes along people (like the one linked) pass it off essentially contradicting their own priorities for this game
The current project is the one I want to talk about because this is the one where I am losing patience. I have advertised this tournament nearly everywhere I could (and it will soon appear on HDGW2 as well) and I approached many major teams to sign up. So far I have received entrees from Team Paradigm, Origine Online, and a third lesser known party. Bravo to you, but to the rest of you who outright told me no, you are a shameful example of why the SPvP in this game is suffering. Don’t believe me? Upon asking a top 15 QP leader if his team would be interested, he said no and responded with this (name blocked out of respect).
Wow. You don’t want to participate in a “for-fun” tournament because you are afraid of losing? My tournament was created to be a fun little contest to keep the community alive, but some of the top teams do not want to participate because they are afraid of losing? Well, have fun when real tournaments come around then, because those involve more than one team as well.
The main point of my post here today, is to call out EVERY major team. You all should be doing something to contribute to the community. Whether it be streaming or putting up guides on youtube, or even a written guide if you do not have the technical assets to do the previous two. Something should be done by the leaders of the game, instead of just constant complaining. A perfect example of where this input could help is with new players coming into SPvP from either just buying the game or coming over from PvE. They are going to get their faces stomped in without any help, but guides from other top players would certainly help this, but unfortunately there have been a huge lack of any in the past few months.
I call out to each and every major team (EStars, Onibawan, Super Squad, Chieftain Ninjas, Paradigm, PZ, and so on) to show me that you are a worthy member of this community. From what I have seen, Onibawan, Paradigm, and Super Squad are the ONLY big teams that stream or produce any kind of video content (please link to correct me if I am wrong). Well you can change that and possibly even save this game’s chances of becoming an esport. Sign up for the tournament, or if you are scared of loosing, make a guide! Whether it be written or in video form, you all need to do something to benefit the community, or there won’t be one left when the time comes to play at IPL, MLG, Dreamhack, and so on! I’ll leave it at that, and I would appreciate it if the members of the top teams could respond as well with their own feelings.
Tournament info: http://www.reddit.com/r/gw2esports/comments/144a7w/announcing_the_team_replika_formerly_tsunami_live/
Closing Apology: I realize that this is probably hurtful to many of the top teams and possibly even offensive, and I will edit the post if valid evidence is given that these teams have made an effort to support the community, but to be honest, I am tired of watching the teams make minimal effort to push this game into the world of esports. This post is intended to cause a storm, because without the input of the major teams, nothing will get accomplished. The “State of the Game” show was a good start, but to be honest I feel it was poorly formatted (2 main thieves and 2 main mesmers is an odd choice of guests when discussing balance to say the least), however that can be discussed in another topic. I once again apologize for any hurt I may have caused the big teams, but as I said, I’m annoyed and I want this game to be better.
I hear an endless amount of general kittening day in and day out that “x is the devs fault, and they are ruining this game” and “theres no players, devs this is entirely your fault” Well thats not true at all. Devs are only a small portion of why people are laughing at this game’s SPvP atm. Where the kitten is the community at? Literally no one has attempted to do anything! The top teams on EU or NA do literally nothing for the community besides streaming, and I am just sick of it. You guys (should be) the voice of balance and the community in general, but instead you sit in a corner and whine about X and Y being put into the game without putting out guides or even tips to your own stuff. How is ArenaNet supposed to make this game an Esport when the playerbase does absolutely nothing to promote it. And it is in absolute load of Bull kitten that “we don’t have the tools to do it.” Guides, 1v1 tournaments, 2v2 tournaments, Blogs, Streaming, Webshows, Casting, the list goes on of what you can do! Before anyone begins calling me out for not doing anything, let me state everything I have done since prelaunch in addition to going to school, working a part time job, and putting in 20+ hours a week to my team.

Still have plenty of spots guys! In addition, we have Auriel from HDGW2 post casting the tournament after, so if you cant make it be sure to be on the lookout on their channel.
Origine Online has joined our roster, leaving us with 5 spots left!
Hey, we’ve been running 1 on 1 tournaments. When the fights exceed x amount of time we suspend the use of healing skills. Just a thought for your tourney.
We’ll certainly take this into consideration thanks!
