Or just play the class that you find so OP instead.
Maxing and alt in this game takes much much less time than any other MMO, which was the best idea in the history of mmorpg’s.I’m gonna play a class I don’t even like just to take advantage of a mechanic I don’t like. Wow, that sounds like the dumbest idea I’ve heard since downed state. Hey, do you work at Anet by any chance?
Nope, but all classes got ups and downs.
Downed state is part of what makes GW2, just because you’re used to one way of PvP from other games, it does not make it the “right” way to do it.
GW2’s PvP is a different game, WvW in its nature is widely different than sPvP, that you cannot even begin to compare the two.Until the day Anet will change WvW skills to sPvP, it will still remain as PvX and not solid PvP, so you cannot compare the two.
oh really? what are the upsides to the downed states of ranger, engineer, warrior ad necro?
Okay, getting someone’s hp downed to 0 equalling a kill might not be the “right” way to do it, hey why not just give instant rezx5 so we have to kill each other 5 times? but in all seriousness, I know downed state is the wrong way to do pvp.100%.
I meant ups and downs in general that compensate for it, not specifically for downed states.
Also, if GW2 was the first game to introduce PvP – you wouldn’t know any better.
So yeah, you only assume you know what is the “right” way to PvP basing your idea of it off other games. The right way to pvp is if you get someone down to 0 hp, they die. If they die they’re DEAD.
The fact that this happens in every. single. game (of any genre). with. player versus player. goes to show that it works better than the downed state mechanic, since no new game has implemented this ground-breaking new way of doing pvp…
LEFT 4 DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it has pvp
I stopped reading after “glass dies”, I can beat bunkers in 1v1, the problen actually is that it takes long and their team comes to help
EDIT: since game is down and I have nothing better to do I read your post and you said you borrowed a build from and excellent pvp thief…. too bad you didn’t borrowed his hands
(edited by Bassman.9245)
this should not be on lions arch, try a less populated zone if you have time
Asuras DON’T have smaller hit boxes just as they don’t have less reach with their weapons
this is not AION
check your search filters, unmark everything
yeah all the legendary look cool, but which one sounds cool?
QUIP
wait until you have a sure shot and then just dodge away or withdraw, or just keep walking and get his back if he is immobilized
There isn’t really an spvp p/p build, because no one runs that weapon set in tourneys. The set’s damage is too easy to avoid, and it lacks any sort of stealth or mobility.
over 100 tourney wins with P/P

Devourer Venom prevents enemies from dodging but feel free to swap it for Shadow Refuge if you want
You got 3 dodges and shadowstep/return, also unload has a great advantage on thieves and mesmers as they keep getting hit when they stealth
I rarely lose a 1v1 if all my cooldowns are up, but that’s because I actually have a pair of hands
Critical Haste will make you waste your init faster while Combo Critical Chance will make you deal more damage with it, do I really need to prove that?
report/block them, it’s not Anet’s fault
don’t forget Black Powder, smoke someone’s face before stomping and they just can’t touch you
wells suck, just dodge over them
your video has a major flaw, Sundering Strikes and Critical Haste sucks, the correct build is 25/30/0/0/15, take Combo Critical Chance and Thrill of The Crime
also 65% crit chance is too low, get sigil of perception and sqash soup to get to 80%
that actually makes a difference
i can still remember, i think it was the second headstart day, someone said in map chat “thieves are so squishy [insert some random qq]”, and i instantly replied “if you keep getting hit you are playing the thief wrong”
as Brassnautilus said, we are meant to dodge, not tank
why would a full zerker use divinity runes? they suck
i can’t believe that little dmg with 22 stacks of might, i can burst down anyone like any other decent thief without all that silly stuff you built
“On the pvp front, when facing a P/P Unload spammer, dodge towards him and you will see how fast things go downhill. Most P/P are free kills.”
I’d like to see you dodge while immobilized (you can’t) or I can just shadowstep or withdraw
I’m glad P/P has this terrible reputation in pvp, makes me feel better every time I win
stop talking like p/p is the only set that has only 1 big damage skill, i can’t argue with bodyshot being useless in 1v1 but headshot is great at interrupting heals (and taking into account the amount of hp that could have been healed thats more dmg than unload) and black powder is great for finishing downed dudes
vital shot needs to be fixed but we still need it for the bleed in order to trigger the +dmg trait
and stop trying to add mobility to it, get withdraw and shadowstep and thats enough, when everything else fails, shortbow your way to safety
Another advantage: I can run “hide in shadows”, which allows for easy repositioning and escaping/initiating.
Same scenario as you: Warrior bullcharges > Roll for Initiative > Warrior is now dead. Why? Bullcharge is spent, I broke the stun, I’m still shooting at him non-stop, and I just gave myself an extra 6 initiative which, together with my build’s natural regen, will allow for an extra 2 dazes or daze and unload.
Don’t get me wrong, Shadowstep is a phenomenal skill by its own right, but so is RfI, with very specific pros and cons for very specific builds.
funny how u blow away your healing skill for initiating and still have the balls to call me a bad “copy paste” thief, oh the irony…
I can’t believe some ppl choose Roll for Initiative over Shadowstep, and call themselves thieves
That would be because you’re a bad “copy paste” Thief who doesn’t know what each skill is for.
Shadowstep is absolutely godlike for melee builds that have to get in and out quickly. It gives you a massive teleport and two stun breakers that allow you to either instantly catch up with an enemy, or get away from pursuers.
Roll for Initiative is far better for ranged builds. Not only is it a stun breaker, but it allows you to create distance from an enemy quickly – while keeping your face turned to them (which is far more useful for a ranged build) AND giving you an initiative boost AND cleaning cripples, chills and immobilizes – The three most dangerous conditions to any ranged build.
If your build can accommodate both – even better.
The reason you see Shadowstep used more often is because most thieves are melee, dagger based, builds, in wich Shadowstep rules supreme.
really? that is so NOT how i use Shadowstep
say a warrior is comming your way, i start shooting then he jumps/spins/bullcharges at me, shadowstep away, keep shooting, again he jumps/spins/charges, shadowreturn, keep shooting, win
thats only 1 scenario, i also use it to position myself behind the enemy only to mess with their cameras, twice
or u can just use it to travel 1200 units in a second
can’t do all that with RFI (also i clean movement conditions with Withdraw)
I can’t believe some ppl choose Roll for Initiative over Shadowstep, and call themselves thieves
I’ve been using this build since beta
30/30/0/0/10 (PVP) http://www.gw2build.com/builds/simulator.php#1.7.6.10.20.0.17.22.22.0.155.168.169.160.179.2.2.25.453.460.461.470.474.476.0.0.0.0.0.0.515.0.0.30.30.0.0.10
Panic Strike + Devourer Venom = Immobilize 8s
if they survive that somehow just kite, a well timed headshot is an insta win
for PvE+WvW i go 25/30/0/0/15, full berserkers + rubys, swap venom for Shadow Refuge
every weakness p/p has can be solved by having a shortbow as a secondary weapon (like everyone should)
the answer is pretty simple: because u can’t turn while immobilized
i got my 5 boxes o’ fun for 3g at black friday (and im sure a lot of ppl got them for nothing at lauch)
next time take just a little more time and buy the correct one
oh the irony
F11 – In-Game Clock: server time
/thread
maybe someone suggested this already
why not make it like tournaments, where u can’t get out and if u do u automatically get back in (maybe do something to prevent switching characters)
Tulisin was right about what i was trying to say, but this thread has one fact wrong thus rendering the whole ecuation irrelevant, my Unloads are not worth 3,000 dmg, at least on fractals 10+ bosses im dealing 8,000+
so yeah, im dealing more dps than a d/d thief (ON BOSSES)
just to clear something out, dps means damage over time, so chaining unload all day long from safety does more dps than a hit n’ run burst build (against bosses)
been using p/p since beta and im usually the group’s biggest dps
