What makes GW2 fun is the Anet philosophy that enveloped both GW1 and GW2. What makes GW2 more a challenge is the difference in how the game is played.
I’m really not trying to start an argument here, but… Are you really trying to say that the zerging and button-mashing in this game are more challenging than the gampelay of the original?
And to stay more or less on topic, I’ll just say that Crater nailed it.

Started playing less after the final event on Sunday, but now I’m sure I’m done with the game for the time being due to not only the Ascended gear, but also the bugs. Can’t stand it anymore. Also, it doesn’t help that after the first few weeks of playing, the game became pretty repetitive and not what I hoped it would be.
I logged-in today thinking I’ll only do my daily, but then a friend convinced me to do a FotM run with him. After losing 45 minutes on trying to find three more people for level 2 and after spending another 45 minutes doing the first two fractals, the kittening game crashed for all five of us while doing the third fractal. That’s 90 minutes of my life I’ll never be able to get back. Due to a bug. Kittening awesome.
I’m also sick and tired of people spamming LA chat with “LFG FotM lvl insert a number higher than 10 here”, pinging their awesome new pink trinkets and then arguing who has the best gear around. Not really what I was expecting from Guild Wars 2.
Most of my friends with whom I was playing the game quit as well and that certainly helped me to finally decide that, sadly, it’s time for me to move on. I really wanted to like the game, but I just can’t seem to. I wouldn’t go as far as to tell that I quit solely because of the Ascended gear, but it certainly was the tipping point for me.

I’m surprised there isn’t one that says “I enjoy PvE, I have lots of time to play, and I hate the new geargrind to the point I quit.”
This.
Didn’t quit though, but my play time has been reduced to around 20 minutes per day. I log-in to do the daily and say hello to the few people in my guild that are still playing.
I just don’t feel like playing the game anymore.
Did you find yourself really caring when Zhitan died? Did you even care a little bit? I did not.
I actually felt sorry for the poor dragon, just hugging his huge pillar and staring at those cannons. The only thing that was missing was work in progress in the upper right corner of the screen.
The rest of the story was also awful and the characters were just… Meh. Hell, even Little Thom, Alesia or Dunham were more memorable than all of the characters of Guild Wars 2 put together.
I’m not even going to start talking about the zerging, button-mashing, bugs or not sticking to their manifesto. It just reminds me of all those The game will be out when it’s ready! and Guild Wars 2 takes everything you love about Guild Wars 1… which, in turn, remind me of how great this game could’ve been and of all the broken promises.
In comparison to Guild Wars, this game really is garbage. And it makes me really sad to say that, considering how much fun I’ve had playing the original game.
There’s a chest at the end which rewards you with some exotics, rares and a 20 slot account bound bag.
I got The Colossus and another guy linked Zap in map chat.
Another guy who gets it. Thank you. I feel better about life now.
Actually, a gal.
And no problem, at least I made someone a bit happier.
And here I thought nothing could drive me insane as much as Tick, tock, the mouse ran up the clock, and time swallowed it whole – tail and all! did…
or better yet, play Guild Wars 1 and remember why u advertised GW2 the same.
This.
Guild Wars 2 takes everything you love about Guild Wars 1… Sadly, it doesn’t. It takes everything I didn’t love about other MMORPGs and puts it into GW2.

Currently uncontested on EU Gandara.
They’ve taken so many steps back from Guild Wars and I don’t understand how they could have.
Word.
As a Guild Wars veteran, I completely agree with the OP. When implemented correctly, RNG can be quite a rewarding system. And ANet already showed that they’re more than capable of implementing it properly into a game and I simply don’t understand how they screwed it up so much in Guild Wars 2.

I’m not asking for extravagent armour per se. I’m actually looking for elegant armour, and elegance is often very subtle.
This.
Oh, what I would give to have my Elite Stoneforged armor or my Mesmer’s FoW armor…
Honestly I think you could affect gear progression by using a variant of the “imbued” system from prophecies.
It’s infused.
Just wanted to clear that up, do continue with the discussion.
Finally gave up, after more hours than I can count. Can’t say it was much fun; it was rather frustrating and required more patience than I have.
My biggest problem with this was making it part of a holiday event which lasted for a couple of days only. If it were available all year round, I’m sure most of the people wouldn’t get this frustrated and wouldn’t cry so much about it. There’d be less pressure and people would just do it when they felt like doing it. Myself included.
Trying to finish a timed jumping puzzle is hard in itself and adding ten other people to jump around you doesn’t make things any easier – especially if three of them are huge Norns, two are Charrs and one is just a stubborn Human who doesn’t want to take off his huge armor because it isn’t getting in anyone’s way. This is usually when people start insulting each other: hoping that the Mad King makes all the Norns die in agony, calling Charrs kittening kittens and cursing the hell out of players who have their armor dyed pink. Or even worse, they start summoning golems, elementals and oakhearts so they screw up everyone and no one is able to see anthing anymore, let alone themselves.
And then there’s the camera. Words can’t even begin to describe how I hate the camera in this game. My first hour of attempts to do this puzzle was wasted solely on figuring out how to make it past the platform where the first lightning strikes and it was due to the camera zooming in all the time.
The wait time, the cutscene and the poems by the Lunatic Courtiers drove me insane, I swear it. I still can’t stop reciting Tick, tock, the mouse ran up the clock, and time swallowed it whole – tail and all!
That being said, I’d like to see the jumping puzzle return next year, with a few improvements. Love the idea behind the puzzle. Hopefully I’ll be able to make it all the way up to the top and finally get my achievement.
On a side note, I did find the Mad King dungeon to be the best part of the event and I think Josh made an awesome job there. The instance was the only thing I enjoyed thoroughly during this event and the jumping only added to the fun. Had a blast with my guildies while doing it, we laughed our kitten off on VoIP.

Well if you have no time and no money then perhaps you shouldn’t be looking at crafting Halloween exotics items. I don’t get it why your crying on the forums??
If you read his post again, you’ll se he’s not crying on the forums, he’s just wondering if he’ll be able to craft the specific gift after Halloween ends.
Anyways, I’d like to know the answer to the question as well.
In between steps 17 and 18, I had one more: sing Tick, tock, the mouse ran up the clock, and time swallowed it whole – tail and all! and go completely insane.
Didn’t make it to the step 20 yet, though.
Also, turn off GW2 sound and have your own music playing in the background.. The endless NPC one liners WILL drive you crazy.
Tick, tock, the mouse ran up the clock, and time swallowed it whole – tail and all!
This one drove me insane, I swear it.

Legendaries are meant to be over-the-top weapons with trails and fireworks which, no matter how emo you make those aspects, will always be toys.
If you want an actual weapon, equip an exotic.
Just my 2cp.
So those of us wanting a legendary weapon to actually look like a weapon shoud just shut the kitten up and equip an exotic?
Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m really not trying to start a squabble here. However, I do think that those of us who don’t really like the over-the-top weapons with flowery trails and pink unicorns got a bit disappointed and have the right to express it. We’d just like to see more variety when it comes to legendaries. Some of us like rainbows and fireworks, some of us don’t. To each their own, right?
To tell the truth, I’d even settle for the ability to dye my weapon if we can’t expect more skins. Some of those weapons would be more appealing to me that way and I’m quite sure that would also make them more appealing to more than a few players.
Did a couple of runs with guildies (all four of us were level 80) and a level 33 PUG tonight and, to tell the truth, we didn’t even notice that the guy wasn’t a level 80 character. It was going as smoothly and as fast as it would’ve with another level 80. Personally, I really don’t see a problem with not being max level for this dungeon, especially if most of the party is.
It’s such a shame to see people kicking out lower levels, especially since a run with a few lower level characters takes only a few more minutes to complete.
If you need a group for running the dungeon, feel free to whisp me in game – my guildies and I would be more than happy to help a lower level character run the instance.

In the future could we please have legendary weapons that actually look like weapons meant for bringing down ancient dragons and not weapons straight out of sailor moon? Please.
This.
I have nothing against rainbows, unicorns or bubbles. I just plain and simple don’t like them and don’t think those skins are worth the time and effort put in to obtain them. If I wanted something colorful, shiny and sparkly, I would play Hello Kitty Island Adventure with my three-year-old niece.
Also, I’m a girl so it has nothing to do with gender.
Something that actually looks like a weapon and not a toy, pretty please.
Did the dungeon around ten times – got a few exotics, some boosters, a couple of unidentified dyes, Black Lion stuff, tonics, Halloween crafting material and a lot of green vendor trash. Guildies with whom I’ve been doing the dungeon got about the same. More than happy about it, considering it takes about 10 minutes to finish the instance.
In addition, killing the Mad King was the most fun thing about this event so far. I’ve had a blast with my guildies on VoIP, we laughed our kitten off when someone failed the jump or was feared of the edge of the platform.
I predict whatever it is people will complain one or more of the following things:
1. The loot was not adequate.
2. The loot was too hard to get.
3. The loot was too easy to get.
4. People are selling loot for too much.
5. The loot is so common the loot is selling for very little.
6. There is no loot and there needs to be loot.
Funny/Satisfying/Slightly Cruel Answer: Botters from all over Tyria will be summoned to to LA and shredded gloriously, gorily by the Mad King. And then banned forever.
Funny/Satisfying/Slightly Cruel Answer #2: Players will get an observation mode and watch ANet developers are forced to run clockwork – as Asura along with a mob of Charr and Norn who do not fall and continually stay on top of the devs toons. Devs won’t be allowed to logoff or quit for at least 12 hour or until they complete the event.
Fearful Answer: There will be some massive PvP event which will be different and fairly cool, but ruined at the end because it will be won by people who find some loophole that ANet overlooked. (E.g. last open beta event — which was won by people who popped elixirs.)
The two of you just made my day!
Stopped getting that bug, but now have a problem with some of the sound effects – they get louder than any of the other sounds. Actually, they get loud enough to make me want to throw my computer through the window.
The most annoying are Fire Elementals’ fap-fap sounds and Polar Bears’ drumming. In case of the Fire Elementals, it’s them flapping those cursed wings of theirs; and as for the Polar Bears, it’s their footsteps. And the worse is the combination of the two sounds – it makes my ears bleed.
I use Pitch instead of Black/Abyss. It looks dark enough on my light armor.
As for the White/Celestial, I’d go with some of the Ice dyes since they seem like a decent alternative.
Enjoyed reading this, it’s a great guide. I do CoE runs regularly and am very disappointed to see how PUGs become terrified of the dungeon when they learn they have to deal with Alpha three times. I really do hope that some of them will read this guide and learn something from it. It’s not that hard when you learn when to dodge, when to stay put and when to walk out of AoE.
And the laser part is guaranteed to make you laugh, even if you’re doing it with PUGs.
On the other hand, path 1 is just plain ridiculous. It’s possible to finish it in 20 minutes (give or take a few), even with PUG groups. And if that isn’t enough, there’s even an exploit. Before the last boss, people jump onto a torch and to the gate to get past an encounter which lasts for approximately 15 seconds. It’s the fight where you have to stay near those four little torches and kill a few trash mobs while one party member goes to the console.
I can’t believe people are actually willing to use an exploit like this one. And even more than that, I can’t believe I get “l2p, noob” when I refuse to use something as absurd.
So yes, I’ll agree that I’m finding it hard to believe that these dungeons are tested by devs. Some of the dungeon paths are near impossible, while others are way too easy (and exploitable, to make matters worse ).

Just a quick question. After building Economy III, my guild decided to queue the +10 Magic Find for 3 days. The upgrade was built properly and it’s now activated. However, there’s no indicator that it’s really active. For example, after claiming the buff from a banner, it clearly states that you have that buff for the next X minutes. With this +10 Magic Find for 3 days, there’s nothing like that except that it’s active under current upgrades (and it’s counting down how many hours it’s going to remain active). Is this how it’s supposed to be working or should there be some kind of an indicator? Also, does it stack with +10% Magic Find Banner?
The question goes for all of those boosts that can be activated as they also appear to be active without any visible indicators.
CoE explorable, yesterday. Second path, first run of the day, lasted more than an hour. Got 20 tokens. After that, we had a break for about half an hour and then went again, this time to do the first path. A guildie disconnected in the middle of the run and wasn’t able to reconnect, the rest of us couldn’t find the fifth member so we tried to do it with only four of us. In the end, the run lasted more than two hours and this time I got 60 tokens.
The day before that, CoE, second path, lasted more than an hour. At the end of the dungeon, a guildie and I got kicked out from the instance after completing it and thus got only 1 token. The rest of the party got 60, 45 and 6 tokens.
Today was even worse (yeah, it’s possible, believe it or not). CoE again, first path. The four of us guildies decided to PUG since no one from the guild was interested in running something as bugged as dungeons at this point. The PUG went offline in the middle of the run so we waited for half an hour for a friend to come online and help us with the dungeon. Everything was great until Bjarl. After his health dropped down to about 50%, him charging into a pillar had no effect – he didn’t lose his Jormag shield. Tried to bypass this bug by leaving the instance, relogging and not attacking him while he had his buff on. Nothing worked. Ended up wasting more than two hours for nothing (and I was hoping I’ll get my 1 token again…).

All in all, a great dungeon fix! Solved all of the problems which those of us who hadn’t been exploiting were experiencing! Looking forward to seeing your next ingenious patches and am eager to be a guinea pig once again for all those magnificent fixes you have in store for us. It’s really great you’ve been so consistent and really published the game when it finally was ready, like you promised. All of us who were supporting you for all those years are really impressed!

Same thing today. CoE again, 20 tokens, first run of the day.
It was always 50%, reported by many players doing tests.
You feel scammed? It would be a scam if it displayed a HIGHER than actual value, but it showed a lower one so nobody was tricked into buying it for that value.
Seriously? I should’ve read various threads on various forums from players doing tests and not believe what was clearly written in the freaking game? Why would I do that?
I’ll agree scammed was perhaps a wrong word to use. I just feelt utterly frustrated after reading the patch notes and realizing that I’ve been doing it wrong. And only because I never even imagined that a typo like this could happen to ANet.
Hell, I’m starting to get frustrated with the whole game, when I think about it.
I’m quite sad to say this, but everything you stated is completely true. A great guide, Enaruki!
The same happened to my and a friend of mine today. CoE run, 1 token, first run of the day, huge repair bill.
Same happened to me and my guildie an hour ago, we got catapulted outside the dungeon into the water and got only one token, zero silver and zero experience. The other three guildies who were with us got 60, 45 and 6 tokens.
You have to be more stubborn than they are. Doesn’t work every time, though.
Did CoE today, got only 1 token and zero silver for completion. A guildie also got 1 token and the three others who were with us got 60, 45 and 6 Crystals. It was my first run of the day in any dungeon.
Being the friend who was with Seven doing CoE, I can confirm. Got only 1 Crystal and zero silver. The three other guildies who were with us got 60, 45 and 6 Crystals and all of us did the dungeon for the first time today.
And why would I even try the Black Lion Kit if it clearly stated that the Master’s has more chance of salvaging rare materials? I was going for materials only, as were tons of other people I know.
I mean, it probably was easy to figure it out if you tried both kits, but I didn’t see the need to try the Black Lion Kit since I wasn’t going for sigils or runes.
In today’s update notes it states: “Black Lion Salvage Kits now properly display the correct percentages for rare materials.” Before the update, it stated that the Black Lion Salvage Kit has 10% of rarer materials, while today it states that it has 50%.
So, basically, all of us that used Master’s Salvage Kits (25% of rarer materials) over Black Lion Salvage Kits to salvage rare materials from items prior to the update got scammed? In the update notes, it doesn’t state that Black Lion Kits got buffed, but that they now properly display the correct percentages, which would mean that they always had 50% of rares materials, we just didn’t know that since we believed what was written.
Am I the only one bothered by this?
(edited by Bella.3502)
Bugged on EU Gandara, even after the update.
The Spectral ones in Cursed Shore, however, work like a charm.
Both of them are still bugged od EU Gandara as well.
Still bugged on EU Gandara.
