Just to be sure.
A vet player that bought the game 40$ (yes some had, even know one that paid 60$ when the game just got out.) and buy the expension at 49.99$ will have pay a total of 89.99$.
But a brand new player will pay only the 49.99$ (add a 10$ if you want to count the extra character slot for the equivalence, so 59.99$ in that case).
So a vet player would have paid at least 30$ more then the new player in that case…
Sorry, but I don’t see the fairness for loyal players.
I pre-ordered the game at full price (I think it was $60). That was 3 years ago. I’ve been playing the game on and off for 3 years. If they had told me in 2012 that I had the option of paying $60 now + $50 for expansion later, OR I can wait, not play the game for 3 years, but just pay $50, I still would have bought the game 3 years ago at the $60 premium.
As a vet you are entitled. Yes, you are entitled to 3 years of gw2 that a newbie did not get. I want gw2 to grow and I want them to bring in new players because I want to play a game with an active playerbase that isn’t dying out.
I also want them to make $$ to keep their game going and because they have a good product and rightfully should be making their $$. And they can’t just be running on the revenue from selling the base game 3 years ago… they have costs, and people have salaries and kitten. They didn’t just hoard their initial game sales revenue to pay all of that every year, every month etc… they make $ from their cash shop (which i’ve chosen not to use until today and still have enjoyed my game); i’m guessing that’s their primary source of revenue over the past 1-2 years, and the way you keep that constant or growing is with new players.

Thank you GW2 team!
I was going to purchase the ultimate edition anyway, but perhaps was holding out because i was just a little disappointed that the rest of the community was so frustrated (even though I thought a lot of the arguments were baseless). I think the team has gone above what they needed to do at this point and I’m just glad they are listening. I feel very good about this
holy cow! yo devs you better take care of your VIPS!

- You can now salvage your unused ascended rings, accessories and amulets to bloodstone dust.
source?
this is GOOD news. thanks for the link! Quite a few things she says. Sounds like we can have some hope for something to do with our rings after HoT is out.
This is for weapon and armor currently – weapons use the same recipe as armor to stat change except they use inscriptions to allow you to change instead of insignias.
(Above is about changing ascended items to have different stats)
CURRENTLY for weapon and armor. something to come for rings then later. right? lol…
I think it’s messed up for people that bought the game recently for $10 or (hopefully not) for full price – especially if arenanet knew they were going to make the game free. beyond that i’m ok with the prepurchase but really thought there should be an extra character slot for all (or for just existing accounts), and maybe a small, nice gesture toward existing accounts.
I’m probably going to prepurchase the ultimate edition, but I’m hesitant. I don’t like that the community is so angry over the prepurchase and now that i think about it, i don’t actually need 4000 gems.
Yeah the ring problem is my biggest peeve with fractal loot.
The intermediate drops shouldn’t matter if each “ring bag” draw is independent. That’s really the assumption I was testing – is each ring draw independent from the last.
sounds like you are assuming that which you are trying to prove.
I don’t know why i’m being contrarian. who knows, maybe you’re on to something. If you’re right then good – figure out the pattern and we’ll take advantage of it.
Well what we were trying to (dis)prove (I’m not sure whether this thread is on track anymore) was that the rng for rings is not an independant. Meaning a ring’s chances does not change depending on the result before. Nevets tries this by placing a counter example. His example has 15 occurences where the drawn ring was the same as the previous ring drawn in a batch of 84 rings. The chance of this or worse (more “doubles”) occurring is 1 in 1.6 million.
This. I haven’t made any claims as to WHY this occurs. There are various explanations.
It could be a poor RNG, it could be different tiers drop different types of rings at different rates, it could be that daily resets influence drops if you did a run before reset, it could be some rings have a higher chance at any tier.
All my data show is that only once in 1.6 million would you get the number of doubles I got IF any time the game draws from the “ring” bag, it draws randomly among the 26 possibilities.
The reason why I posted this in the first place is because so many people are like, “oh my gosh I got 3 spearguns in a row,” or “dude I got the same weapon box 5x in a row this week.”
I presented my data as I have it, and 84 rings is a large sample size, with high power, despite what people keep claiming here.
Just so we are clear, by “double” you don’t simply mean duplicate. so not just drawing a ring you already have – but furthermore you mean the exact ring you just got on your previous fractal run. I don’t think that is clear. Also, this does not account for the entire loot table. in between getting two of the same rings, you could’ve gotten a fractal skin, armor chest, weapon chest, absolutely nothing, a different quality ascended ring (ascended/not ascended).
And then to accept what you are saying you have to assume that Tim’s formula is accurate for this scenario, that the math is correct, and that your data is correct. i’m terrible at math so i’d question the 3rd: you really put your rings in the bank in the order that you received them and haven’t touched them since? have you ever used the rings you got from drops for your character? on your alts? are those all accounted for? edit: and did you ever buy rings? such as when you started fotm in the very beginning to get AR? did you include those in the 84?
(edited by Benson.9063)
ok i read through more of it and now i wish i hadn’t.
but that 1 in 1.6 million number… what does that represent the chances of? rolling duplicates? or rolling duplicates consecutively? i don’t get what you are trying to prove to be honest. Rolling duplicates – there is a very high chance of duplicates the higher and higher you get don’t you think? there’s only 26 outcomes. once you achieve all of the outcomes, you have 100% chance to get duplicates.
So i think you are trying to get the probability of obtaining the same ring consecutively with the math that Tim provided you and based on your picture; that is a very specific hypothesis and not the only claim you are making in this thread (and i’m not sure if you’ve even made that specific claim yet).
Why are you trying to figure this out? If you believe that if you get one ring you will then have a far greater chance to get it again on the next run, you should use this to your advantage – try to figure out if maybe you have higher chance to get the same ring on a sunday, or on back to back runs, or at night-time, or with your warrior, etc. if you get a ring you also want for another alt, then repeat and give yourself a better shot at it, if not come back later.
let me know if my logic anywhere if flawed. btw… you really put your rings in your bank in the order that you got them? and you haven’t touched them since? O_O
*edited to be more clear.

The math sounds really bad to me. I’ve read through only the first thread.
This reminds me of a discussion I had with my friends after a gambling session. i believe we were palying roulette. Read about the Gambler’s Fallacy and see if that applies and helps you to understand:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gambler%27s_fallacy
. . .probability of getting heads on a single toss is exactly 1?2 (one in two). It follows that the probability of getting two heads in two tosses is 1?4 (one in four) and the probability of getting three heads in three tosses is 1?8 (one in eight).
Now suppose that we have just tossed four heads in a row, so that if the next coin toss were also to come up heads, it would complete a run of five successive heads. Since the probability of a run of five successive heads is only 1?32 (one in thirty-two), a person subject to the gambler’s fallacy might believe that this next flip was less likely to be heads than to be tails. However, this is not correct, and is a manifestation of the gambler’s fallacy; the event of 5 heads in a row and the event of “first 4 heads, then a tails” are equally likely, each having probability 1?32. Given that the first four rolls turn up heads, the probability that the next toss is a head is in fact . . . 1/2.
While a run of five heads is only 1?32 = 0.03125, it is only that before the coin is first tossed. After the first four tosses the results are no longer unknown, so their probabilities are 1. Reasoning that it is more likely that the next toss will be a tail than a head due to the past tosses, that a run of luck in the past somehow influences the odds in the future, is the fallacy.
Also there are other things to come into play. there are 26 outcomes but maybe they are not all weighted equally. If you really wanted to test this ask people to open up their banks and show their rings. I have some duplicates but otherwise a great variety. The OP has only gotten 5 rings………. they aren’t even all the same 5. i would also suggest to run more fractals and tell us what your next 5 rings are? next 10 rings are? etc.
(edited by Benson.9063)
i honestly don’t see any issue with your particular scenario and am very glad they raised it to a majority of party. I would suggest either doing as someone above said and be more tolerant/instructive, be more descriptive on LFG (experience requirements etc.), find content you can duo, find 1 more friend/guildmate … i’m sure there are other solutions. bringing it back down to 2 would bring back so many more problems. and also i don’t know what content you’re doing but if you consistently just happen to be getting 3 other idiots is it possible some of the fault lies on you?
It’s really time to add the ability to throw exotic stuff in the forge for other exotic things. The exotic minies from the jewel boxes are worthless atm, it’d be fine even if the results were account bound aswell.
agreed! sigils and runes too
i do fractals and pretty much exclusively fractals because it’s fun. i pug 100%. i’m just not a fan of the zerg content. Also doing it for the rewards – might not be the most lucrative thing to do, but if not for the rewards i probably wouldn’t do fractals at all. probably wouldn’t be playing gw2 much. i’ve gotten a ton of rings, the infused backpiece, and a couple of armor chests. hoping to get more chests…
I’m in the 31-40 tier currently.
Is that a general bug or only specific to thaumanova?
general fractal bug it seems:

a lot of good info here. I built my own PC for the first time without much knowledge of how to do so. I would say if you have the time then DEFINITELY build one. It is super easy if you have time and want to learn. there’s nothing wrong with a pre-made but you can do a whole lot better building on your own.
Resources I used were already listed:
- TomsHardware – do SOME research first. then start a thread
- pcpartpicker (once you have idea of CPU/GPU you want you can view other people’s builds that include them too)
- Youtube – I basically had this video open while i was actually building and followed step by step: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0zOYdNEHDQo&list=FLesXde5bXxeIw06B87wXbcw
Online stores in US (as already mentioned): newegg/tigerdirect (especially if no tax for you), ncix, amazon.
Brick and mortar stores you may have near you: Microcenter, Fry’s
I just posted in the gw2dungeons bugs thread about this. After reading your thread I’m very sure that there are some server issues or something going on that just started causing these problems.
This exact same thing happened to us after we were teleported to the chest room in thaumanova and ready’ed up. Also, I joined another LFG group in hopes I could still get daily chest and they too had this happen after 3rd fractal.
I hope they fix this.
Oh btw the 2nd LFG group that I joined… nobody after (that wasn’t in the original party) was able to get the fractals pop-up and enter their instance.
(edited by Benson.9063)
So I did Thaumanova today 3/31 at lvl 34 fotm… I solo’ed heat room and guess what? I didn’t go invis. I even said in party chat that it was very weird.
New Bug (for me at least): We teleported to chest room, all got our loot without any delay, and then all readied up. We got the “beam me up scotty” animation but then we didn’t go anywhere. We just stayed in the chest room… we tried relogging and it brought us back to the very first room with the detonator. The wall was intact so we were stuck in there. Briefly I heard one of the quest dialogues but that’s about it. No clue why it could’ve happened but there were no wipes at any part and we weren’t skipping mobs or anything. Was actually a very smooth run. 2 days in a row i get stopped midway into a fractal. This was more frustrating because it was right before the boss fractal… ughhhh. They need an option to restart level if they’re going to have so many kitten bugs.
(edited by Benson.9063)
old bug (not sure if it is still there, and dont fell like testing it haha), Molten Furnace Fractal, entering the Molten Alliance weapon testing area before the NPC’s, tests do not start. No known fix (that I know of)
Had this happen to me last night 3/30 and we had to restart our entire run. Consistent with this thread:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Fractals-Molten-Facility-Bug/first#post4931389
Then there’s the bug in Thaumanova where you become completely invisible as a character. Can’t even see your weapon so you have to use spell effects to gauge your relative position on the floor the boss is in.
The Thaumanova bug seems to be related to the heat room. Every time I do the heat room, I go invisible afterwards. It seems to be fixable by re-entering the heat room.
This happens to me 100% of the time. I usually solo heat room but i thought it happens to everyone in party, but maybe not. We’ve fixed this by logging out and logging back in but i’m used to it.
happened to our group last night at 33. we entered the boss room prematurely, saw some npc get flattened, and then had to wait for braham and company to enter. they came in and nothing triggered. couldn’t find a way to kill npc’s and we suicided in lava but they just started following us after that. I’ll know not to enter boss room w/o npcs now… but can’t believe this bug hasn’t been fixed. we had to restart our fractal as well.
Actually even more consistent with the OP in this thread:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Molten-Furnace-Fractal-Bug
We wiped on the adds before the wind walls / after the boulders, and the wind holes started to pop up again and we saw gear icons on the minimap and had to re-boulder them. might be part of reason…
(edited by Benson.9063)
Hmm I don’t know I’m iffy on this. I think it should be hard to get the ascended gears but you SHOULD have something to do with them if you get them and don’t need them. i believe the “current reason for new heights” (as the OP says) is enough though. i’d be afraid of making it feel like hitting 50 is necessary. I like it as it is now as there are enough people to find parties at 11-20, 21-30, and 31-40 (haven’t gone above that) and i’d be afraid that those lesser levels would see less people playing in them. and also more people would rush through the tiers without actually being ready. my opinion at least.
I also wouldn’t mind seeing consumables and other things in fractal merchants. I like that there are 20 slot boxes already. Would like to see them expand upon that. +5AR food?
I can understand your grief, and I wouldn’t kick someone for that, esp. in story mode, but I understand the kick too. Good news is that it is easily preventable. Like other people say, check the LFG description or make your own LFG so that people know you want to experience the story and cutscenes. But i don’t think you should even need to do that – most people i’ve encountered are very friendly or are in the minority of hte party. If you join a normal “CM STORY LF2M” or whatever it is, just make sure that you tell them at the beginning you want to watch the cutscenes. They will either be ok with it and you stay and enjoy, or they are not ok with it and you find a new party. I find it annoying sometimes because I’m impatient, but sometimes it’s annoying because, had i known someone was going to watch the cutscene, maybe I would have watched them too, rather than just wait there and twiddle my thumbs.
i know what you mean. even if it’s a ring i get excited that there’s something purple at least. but at 30+ most likely you don’t need anymore rings and it’s basically just trash. so i’d rather have increased chance of the chests and decreased chance of ring, meaning increased chance of diddly squat. but yeah, spend 40 min (1 hr+?) in there and get nothing and i feel like… such a waste of time! don’t really know the solution though because you can’t just simply award an ascended item 100% of the time. account bound exotic maybe?

Thanks!! where did you see that? in the video in the article?? I still can’t find it. sorry i fail.
I like the idea of agony channeler being some way to give extra AR to someone lower, like a mentoring system. And recursive resourcing i HOPE is a way to get rid of our rings. PLEASE! but most likely a way to deal with the vial and shards etc. Hyperactive singularities could be harder fractals but i’d think it is more to do with a fractal that keeps recurring – such as a way to stop rolling a fractal you hate if you keep getting it.
where does it say fractals are a whole path of masteries in the article?? It does say: “You’ll even be able to use some of them in the Fractals dungeons.” That quote seems to imply the opposite though… that you can use masteries not intended specifically for fractals in fractals.
I’ve decided on some parts,
CPU: i5 4460
Motherboard: Asrock H97M Pro4
GPU: Sapphire Vapor-X R9 270X 2GB
Power Supply: Corsair CX600M 600WAny opinions on these?
parts are slightly lower than what people recommended and definitely a budget build.
It will do well for gw2 but probably already outdated for some of the newer games out there. you can probably max settings or come close to max on gw2. if not sure google it i’m sure people have similar setups.
what I do when I build a PC is i don’t say I must have an R9 270x for example. i know it is in range of a 760 GTX and 7870 and 7950 in performance (off the top of my head so not 100% on this as the R and X naming from AMD confuses me). Then I get whicheer of the 4 is the best price. or if i have time i’ll see if any gpu’s from a tier up go on sale for the same price range.
this was happening to me. I thought it was someone else spamming shouts but it kept happening when nobody was near me. I zoomed in on my character and her mouth was moving every time so it was definitely me! I thought it was hilarious to hear my character “impersonating” other races. but yes it got annoying.
I would start by picking the CPU and GPU you want.
I’d go i5 4670k or the slightly upgraded version 4690k, or the i7 4770k or its slightly upgraded version 4790k. look up the AMD equivalents if you want AMD – they are very cost-effective and budget friendly.
For GPU you want something in the range of nvidia 770 gtx or 780 gtx. you can look up the amd equivalents. my friend just got an older AMD 7950 for $110 which gets the job done on a budget and can play max settings. you don’t need AMD processor for AMD GPU btw.
I built mine a year ago with a 770 gtx and i7 4770k and from there if you don’t know what you want go to a site like pcpartpicker.com and you can see what other people are building with those 2 components with prices.
- i don’t see any benefit of Z97 over Z87 motherboard for most people (esp. if you don’t know what those means). make sure the socket of your board matches your cpu (socket 1150 for any cpu listed above).
- get a 240gb ssd hard-drive which you can get for $85-95 nowadays. up to $150ish
- get a solid but cheap cpu cooler like a hyper evo 212 or noctua. $25-50.
- 2×4gb ram is enough (~$60). 2×8gb ram is not too expensive at around $100-$130.
- power supply is important. i have a 650w Gold for my i7 4770k / 770gtx build. wasn’t more than $50. once you pick your components google “psu calculator” to determine what wattage you need
I use slickdeals.com and hunt for deals so i made mine very cheap (under $700 w/o monitor). i can run on max settings on gw2 as well as the only other game i’ve played on it which is shadow of mordor.
(edited by Benson.9063)
agreed. the current system is illogical and confusing. very silly how they do it. fractals gets no love though so it will never be fixed.
agreed this was not a good idea.
I am definitely in favor of the new party changes. Majority is very necessary. I also agree with removing anonymity. i pug 100% of the time and i prefer people put thought into kicking than just doing it frivolously, which is usually the case.
i think it would be significant if they made superior runes/sigils into a random new superior rune/sigil but eventually market would adjust. also i think there are other recipes that would work. like i said, even using the major rune/sigil MF output table would be a positive. but it’s not for me to say what the recipe should be. i just think there should be one!
I don’t get Rauderi’s reply. I tried googling Wintersday and a combination of superior rune sigil etc. Does it have anything to do w/ superior sigil of mischief…? edit: oh ok i thought that was sarcasm hah.
(edited by Benson.9063)
I was about to make a topic about this but found this post from… 10 months ago. I think being able to turn superior runes/sigils into a random through MF would go a long way (or some other recipe involving superior runes/sigils).
I looked at Lishtenbird’s topic in the feature list but that is 1 talking point among 167, and I didn’t see much discussion in that thread about this; furthermore I believe the issue is too different from the discussion that takes place regarding ascended gear in the mystic forge to be grouped with it. On a side note I have like 20 fractal rings and would love to have something to do with them other than vendor, but i have seen a lot of threads on that topic already.
Right now there are too many superior runes / sigils that are on TP for vendor price. Sometimes I will put superior runes up and can’t even sell them because there are no buy orders… at all (for 2s55c vendor price)! It was like 1 year ago exactly that they had the feature pack with runes, sigils update and that really hasn’t done anything for the myriad lesser used runes since it’s still the case that nobody uses them. When min TP price was 2s17c there were still a lot that sold for 2s17c. If you removed the vendor price minimum or TP price minimum, these runes would go far lower. why even have these runes in the game? (about the same reason there are junk items).
Look at the price of Major Runes. They are ALL above the price of many many superior runes. It doesn’t make any sense logically (but it actually does since u can MF major runes and u can’t MF superior). It might mess up prices but I’m sure they can think of a formula that wouldn’t have too much effect (JUST for example they could even make the output table for putting superior runes into MF the same as or slightly adjusted (for the better) to the output table for putting in major runes – I believe MF is why major runes have a floor of around 4s to 5s in the first place).
(edited by Benson.9063)
adding to Ezeriel – there’s a lot of runes that people are selling for vendor price … wouldn’t you make more money if you just sold to vendor? lol.
For the next update they should include about 10 or so rune sets in the “Sell Junk” option when you go to the vendor. quality of life improvement right there.
I’m in agreement here. The rune changes were very underwhelming. I was looking forward to trying new things…
The LFG system has automatically joined me into parties quite a few times, and people were cursing at me because I supposedly didn’t read the party name. I think what happened is that I joined a group that got disbanded and it just sent me to the next party for the same dungeon.
I’m in same boat as Augiash – I have 9 completed and only 7 counted towards the wings, but I have only done Dragon Devotee, so there is another non-Dragonball achievement that is not registering.
Can I have an invite? I think this is a great idea.
I’m on a wvw guild that just transferred to Blackgate from Yak’s Bend. How is the PvE on blackgate? I am having a really tough time selling the move to Blackgate to my real life friends. They don’t want to move b/c it’s a hassle, they are mainly into PvE, and they have personal 1-person guilds for guild bank/personal storage already and don’t want to lose the upgrades.
