Agreed… unfortunately I don’t think Anet is going to fix these issues anytime soon. All burst/bunker builds need to be toned down to promote out-of-the-box builds… imo of course.

I could get 11 stacks easily (sometimes more) using elixir b, hgh, and the healing/might trait in the power tier (using med kit).

I run a 0/0/30/20/20 rifle bunker build with tool kit, elixir gun, and elixir r. I have no problems with any classes though it is difficult to take down support eles and bunker guards alone. This build has regen up about 80% of the time and tons of protection. Let me know if you want more info.

Hello all… I love playing my bunker pistol/shield engineer in free tourneys, but how viable are they in paids? Considering other profs fill roles better. I guess this is directed towards high level players. What builds and roles do engineers use and serve at this level currently?

Btw… a pow/vit/tough bunker build would be something like 0/20/20/30/0 or 0/10/30/30/0 with soldier’s amulet. These builds concentrate on cc.

Power/Vitality/Toughness would be fine… just not an optimal bunker imo. You could keep grenades (which u seem to prefer) but power would benefit rifle as main weapon. If you want more help on a build, I’d just need to know what it is for (spvp or wvw or pve).

I use a condition roamer build you might like… 10/30/0/30/0 with pistol/shield and rabid amulet (toughness). For utilities, you could keep grenades and use Elixir B with the third slot open to preference (probably use an elixir to take advantage of traits).

If u are using pistol/shield, power is useless (except for your grenades). You would be better off with a 0/10/30/30/0 or 0/0/30/30/10 build using bombs or tool kit. Bombs give u knockback, condi dmg, combo fields, blind, and cripple. Tool kit gives u cripple, condi dmg, 3sec block, and 1200 range pull.

Power is geared more towards rifle builds, grenadier roamers, or offensive bomb builds.

This is my opinion of course, but hope it helps.

I’m not so sure about the life of pvp in this game. Gamers seem to lose interest quickly if they aren’t pleased. I have been playing (mostly pvp) since first public beta, and the decline in pvp population has to draw some attention. This patch was a small step forward when imo a large amount of pvpers were hoping for game changing updates. The only thing that keeps me playing is the fact its f2p.

GW2 pvp is balanced around the conquest mode, no? Deathmatches would have a ton of thieves running around like hot join lol.

They were adding a new PvP mode on the update of 15th november as I recall though. Maybe that’ll spice things up

I am rank 31 and feel comfortable playing engineer, necro, mesmer, and guardian. Most of the ppl I pvp’ed with at launch have moved on. I would like to find a big guild or team.

This post is kind of changing my whole perspective on Anet’s pvp division. They say they listen to their playerbase… apparently 50+ pvpers agreeing with the OP means nothing. Keep us in the loop; don’t mock us with irrelevant replies. Change is a must for pvp to stay afloat.

If pvp is balanced around 5v5, why is hot join 8v8? The maps were designed for 5v5, no?

Agree 1000% and have been saying this in multiple threads.

Another thing I would add is small amount of xp for structured pvp to try and draw more of the player base into pvp and hopefully get them hooked. Of course no point in adding this until there is match making, otherwise they would see how horrible 8v8 is or get stomped in free tournament and go back to pve forever.

This is a great idea! +1 for matchmaking as well as small experience gains.

Good matchmaking systems MAKE good pvp games that survive longer. Examples: every good fps including halo, cod, cs, wow arena… just to name a few.

Since GW2 does not have dedicated healers, I would think the damage could be scaled down so that encounters last longer than 5 seconds. I have my concerns with several topics, but this seems to trump most. Pvp seems more like a fps? Burst seems to outweigh condition damage slightly. Balance issues force players into limited builds to compete. I would like to see all burst scaled down, possibly quickness removed, shatter mesmers toned down, 100B could probably use a longer cd. Don’t get me wrong, I think the game is in decent condition… I just hope issues get resolved sooner than later. Ive seen my friends/guilds list (mainly pvpers) shrink considerably and I’ve actually tried the pve content due to pvp frustration.

Hopefully our pvp community will see some results on the 15th if not sooner.

And guess what… I’ve been bursted down by a 100B warrior, pistol whip thief, and confused to death by smart mesmers… but I’ve also killed all those professions. This game is about team work (hence combos) and filling a role. There aren’t really “do-it-all” builds, just pick a role and build for it.

I’m sick of reading all these qq posts. I’ve pvp’d up to rank 23, tried out most professions and feel pvp is fine. There is a counter to everything. If you can’t 1v1 someone, call your friend to come help. The water map isn’t in tourneys and if you don’t like zerg-fest, avoid hot join. Anet has already said changes are coming (thief HS spam was fixed quick). Balance isn’t number one priority post launch… hang in there, try a new build, pvp is fine and if you don’t like it keep it to yourselves or just don’t play.
