Uninstalling afterburner kickstarted the install – even with antivirus and a firewall up.
thank you to everyone who stopped to post suggestions – they have kept me sane in the last few days.
big thanks to Ashley too
nice to know that the community is so lovely – even before I got into the game.
thanks again.
i uninstalled them – driver fusion installed but is crashing on opening. tried several times.
rebooted computer. same thing.
is there another program that will do the same thing?
computer is very sluggish atm.
It is disabled and was for the 2nd test – thanks for keeping with this
Im using a Netgear DG834GT – not sure if that helps?
the first report was far better connected – were there traceroutes on that?
I’m just asking – I’m a little out of my depth
I am using a router – I can’t bypass it at all without buying a 50 foot ethernet cable and probably risking divorce.
I can’t understand why it would be causing such a big problem – I play predominantly MMO’s – this has never happened. TOR and Rift both patched and loaded today.
this is the new one.
I was already running with the majority of programs off as I did the msconfig on friday night – however I did have my firewall up and Antivir running when i did the first test. I have made an exception for ports in GW2 in my antivirus software, etc.
Oddly – looking at this one – the connection seems worse now.
You are the expert – let me know what you think.

the cmd i tried was
microsoft telnet> open GW2 64.25.40.118.6112
i also tried it with telnet as the hostname exactly as you wrote it.
could not connect.
First time I had ever used telnet – not sure if I was using the correct commands. had to take a very quick crash course.

Rift and TOR installed without problem - what makes GW2 different?

I use vista – the game won’t begin to download – I have a portable HD which I could try and install on though – its something I have not tried yet!

Not trolling genuinely interested – is there something GW2 needs that needs different configs of internet settings.
the last 10 MMO’s I’ve played installed, loaded, and played without issue. I’m on day 3 of CS support and the game won’t install…
I’m still trying to everything I can!

can any help me with this – im struggling to get it – CS passed this on:
1. Locate and remove the Ethernet cable that is plugged into the back of your router from the modem. This cable may be connected to a port marked as a “WAN” port.
2. Replace the Ethernet cable currently plugged into your system with the cable you removed from the router.
3. Confirm that your Internet connection is working properly by visiting a few websites. If you cannot browse to a website, please reboot your modem by unplugging the power cable to it and plugging it back in.
I dont have a modem – i have an ethernet adaptor.
I have one ethernet cable going to my router from my computer.
if I follow the steps above: nothing will be plugged into the router. Should there be something else plugged into the router? Into my router I literally have a :
phone line in
power cable
ethernet cable
Am I missing something? I have read that CS suggestion 10 times and don’t get it.

No probs – I feel the same. This seems to have been left out of many of the reviews… there seems too many of us having the same problem for it not to be taken seriously. But my ticket has been sat there for 24 hours now.

the windows part in vista was cool it was the netgear router – would not allow me to add a primary or secondary dns address manually…

I just tried opening all ports and opening the .exe – same message – unable to download – check internet connection.
I checked the ports were open on canyouseeme.com
I gave the opendns a try but my router does not seem to have the function to manually add a dns source – it had a few for me to choose from but i could not opt for the one you suggested.
thanks everyone – I really appreciate you taking the time for this.

I made exceptions for GW2 and did not leave the ports just open. Won’t shieldsUP simply tell me that they are closed/stealthed?
I’m new to port forwarding – most games I buy work out of the box – i don’t have the right connectors atm to bypass the router :/
thanks for your suggestions – that is a great site btw.
if you have afterburner on the computer but not running would that make a difference?

I got a return in 5 hours last night – but no reply in the last 12.
it was a cut and paste though. Now I have asked a further question – things have gone a little quiet… I only joined yesterday. I can’t even get the game to install to 1%…

I have tried updating everything, forwarding ports, running in safe mode, as admin, direct download, I have no safety left on the computer what so ever!
Still getting the same message that most of you got – unable to download – check internet connection.
Been playing MMOs since UO – been at this for hours now and am nearly beaten.
You are better people than I.
I have put a ticket in – if there is anything you think I might have missed please add link – i’d love to give it a go
