Gee, what a surprise. One of the “petless ranger” dissenters. You know, some things are just intuitive, like the fact that people like contributing something unique in group play rather than just being totally interchangeable with everyone else. Or prefer multi-dimensional tactical combat over one-dimensional DPS fests. Or feeling some degree of attachment to their class based on their ability to customize the way they play it. Or that most players early on joined and left as guilds when they figured out that group content didn’t meet their needs or desires.
I feel no compulsion to try to argue against anyone that disagrees with obvious facets of reality.
And you, sir, seem like you’re trying to force your assumptions and opinions of the game and its playerbase as reality.
I was one of the people who played the beta and played at launch. I quit because I didn’t find any kind of enjoyable endgame other than grinding for legendaries. I quite liked the dungeons and the non-structured format of the professions. In fact, I would say the lack of defined roles, as well as the concept of dynamic events and living world, are the reason why I even care about the game in the first place. In my opinion, those two things are the game’s most valuable asset.
Unlike you, however, I know that what I like is just my preference and opinion, and nobody should jump to cater to my whim and desires. If you do not like how Guild Wars 2 works, go find another MMO; there are many out there, and the majority cater to what you want. But if you want to accept ArenaNet’s vision and not try to force what you prefer as the best and only way, then I think you’ll enjoy the game a lot more.
Unfinished and yet probably the most polished mmo out there and is 4 years old in a genre with mmos actually very rarely fade away in comparison to any other genre, in fact the lifespan of a AAA mmo is going on for 10 years+ I suspect you have not played GW2 very long as you argue for the very things that GW2 champion (e.g horizontal growth etc etc. What MMORPG would you say gives you all these things you refer to?
Well, I’ve had GW2 since the beta, and I can say I agree with OP in some aspects. ArenaNet develops new and improved systems for new maps and for HoT, but the original maps and content remain largely unchanged. It would be nice if all the upgrades that are used in the new content would be applied to the old content as well; it would make for a much better experience, imo.
People still use Teamspeak? I thought everybody already moved to the superior Discord.
Yeah, it’s unfortunate. The “hardcore no-life” type of players still think TS is the kitten because they’ve been using it for years and refuse to acknowledge when something better comes along. Stubbornness and arrogance, I guess.
I, for one, refuse to join any comms unless it’s on Discord. I won’t install a garbage VoIP program when there’s a much better one available that I use daily.
If you don’t buy it now or in 7 days, then buy it when it goes on sale. Because you will be missing free content. You will have to buy the content you are missing.
Incorrect. Living story is unlocked as long as you log in, whether you own HoT or not.
I don’t buy the excuse that it was meant to be experienced in open world. They can just put it in instances with the map changed, like they do in other LS seasons.
I certainly hope so. A couple of friends and I are interested in playing again.
I’ve played GW2 on and off since launch, and I must say I was pretty mad about the whole full-priced expansion thing. However, I learned that HoT was on sale in July, but I missed it. I thought that price was pretty fair and would be willing to pay that.
So is there any chance of another HoT sale of at least 50% off?

Please update us with how your issue was handled.
Apparently it won’t be handled.
People like me who recently bought the game will need to buy(separately).
Living World Content along with HOT, amounting to over 70 USD ontop of our base GW game cost(which for me was 20 USD).
The game is fun but I am never going to spend any money in the cash shop, I maybe buy HOT when it drops to 20 USD or less but I feel no desire to be furthered screwed over by AreaNets policies.
I’m kind of kicking myself for not buying ESO.
Your base game purchase will automatically be refunded when you buy HoT now. They changed it because so many people complained. https://www.guildwars2.com/en-gb/news/pre-purchase-community-address/
If it’s at the end of November, you can easily farm enough gold to buy a precursor by then. Just run every dungeon path from every dungeon once a day, and then use the tokens to buy exotics and salvage them for rare runes/sigils/ectos. Very profitable.
Those do sound pretty cool.
They will make precursors craftable soon. The problem will be addressed then.
Considering that Sylvari are barren drones, and all are being grown by the Pale Tree, without the Tree they will simply die out (*). End of story.
Which gives me an idea
(goes to pack an axe and a lot of flammables)(*)There might be other trees, but the same applies for them. Sylvari as a race simply cannot exist without their mother trees.
I don’t think that Sylvari are drones. That’s like saying babies born in real life are drones. Yes, they don’t know anything. They were just born and are completely clueless about everything. But to be a drone they need to be controlled and not have their own thoughts or goals or desires. The sylvari have their own thoughts and goals, and they are not directly and fully controlled by the Pale Tree. Even if she does tell them what to do and affect their ways of thinking, that is more akin to brainwashing than actually completely controlling them. A lot of humans in real life are brainwashed too. But none of them are drones.
i totally think confusion is warranted here. i mean, are we to believe that the Queen and Anise staged a ruse in the form of PUBLIC speech that endangered the lives of countless innocent civilians simply to flush out Scarlet? it makes zero sense. Queen Jennah might not be smart enough to cover her nasty feet in a pair of shoes but she can’t be that daft, can she? i want a better explanation of events but it’s doubtful that that will happen.
What does being barefoot have to do with intelligence? Perhaps she just likes the feel of the natural floor when she walks instead of shoes. Please don’t equate unrelated concepts or a person’s preferences to intelligence.
You don’t have to buy gems with real money. You can exchange in-game gold for them on the currency exchange at the trading post.
Yes. This. Completely support.
I wholeheartedly agree. The world isn’t really “dynamic” now, as Anet said it would be.
Yes, I miss it too. I remember fangasming about it in the beta, lol.
Same problem here. I submitted a bug report in game. I also have pretty bad load times. I will try this on low settings later on and see if it lets me continue.
I agree with this. The events aren’t very “dynamic” right now.
I agree. My computer is unstable and prone to crashes, so when I do fractals I’m scared every second that I’ll crash and be unable to join back in.
