Crashing in Bitter Harvest

Black Dragon.1504

I have just had this bug occur to me as well for the second time.

The first time I was running my Druid solo, and was partway up the helix before it crashed.

This time I was running my Druid solo again, and was attacking the first vine wall when it crashed. My graphics card is an AMD Radeon HD 7700.

I’ll try it again later today to see if changing my graphics settings to high performance fixes the issue.

Am I the only one who thinks this is a completely reasonable price for a convenience item that is only really needed by those who have a multitude of alts and/or permanent contracts?

I doubt it was intended for average players to purchase – this scratches the itch for those who felt really inconvenienced without one.

I understand that this would be helpful but in the absence of a test server, which is our current situation, we will do as much as we can as fast as we can. We made some changes today and more will be coming as the week goes on. After that our intention is to make balance and bug fix changes to this stuff every couple of weeks leading up to the release of HoT.

Also, not everything is too strong, just all forms of damage.

Jon

I logged in specifically to say holy cow – you have done a bloody amazing job on releasing this build without a test server! I honestly cannot fathom how much effort you must have taken to ensure this was done as carefully as possible!

Well done!!

game crashes everytime i leave group

^ Yes, that would be ideal. This is extremely frustrating. I was trying to help taxi people into a Silverwastes map and as soon as I clicked to leave the party it crashed.
Now each time I do it the game will crash, even if the party leader leaves the group to leave me by myself.

“Simple Party UI” has not fixed it for me either.

-snip-
Over half of my games today had a rank 12 or lower, and in every single case they were on the team with 3-4 players vs a full 5 on the other side. How do you think these players feel when they see people leaving constantly knowing they’re being avoided by everyone? What can be done to reduce or eliminate these situations where these new players are seen as HIV carriers dripping blood all over the place?

It’s true – I am a PvP noob, and I am well aware that I would be a hindrance to my team which is why I chose to play hotfix since winning was supposedly not something that mattered too much. I do like to win occasionally but I also like to try my hand against other classes to learn how to counter them in a casual environment where I won’t ruin someone’s standings.

But the more I have played the more I have felt that I just shouldn’t bother playing. There’s always someone raging that their teammates are stupid or that they couldn’t believe the team failed after all they did for them and it’s so common now I am starting to think it’s not worth the effort anymore.

That sounds like it might be resource-intensive.

If they did that kind of thing, why not just have one Crafting Station that you can choose what it offers?

That sounds like a good idea

As a matter of fact, you can still do weaponsmithing after changing, if you change back to it. You habe to talk to the guy at the specific crafting station and pay a fee, but otherwise there is no restriction and your progress does not get lost.

Ah, I stand corrected then. I will edit my post

Well, if I were to have Crafting Stations, I would want them all because between all my characters, I have all 8 disciplines.

But, I don’t really care if Crafting Stations are in the Home Instance. I only go to the Home Instance to gather mats from the Nodes there. /shrug

Yes, but each Home Instance is different for each character. I’m thinking the stations will relate to the one you are logged in to at the time.
So for example, my main will have weaponsmithing and tailoring. When I log into my alt, it will show artificing and cooking stations instead.

You can change your professions whenever you want, so having only 2 in there is pointless..

The idea is that it would change to whatever your character has – so if you changed weaponsmithing to armoursmithing the crafting station would change appropriately.

Unless you can still do weaponsmithing once you have changed to armoursmithing, then having all stations would make sense. (I’ve never changed professions myself)

And my mistake, you can have up to three now via gemstore.

Crown Shard disappointment

I admit I was a bit disappointed that my character somehow knew exactly where each crown shard was and that he could just run up and pluck it whether the event was there or not.

A bit more detective work would have made it better imo.

Purchasing Living Story Season 1

Black Dragon.1504

I believe they have mentioned that they would like to release Season 1 some time in the future – but because almost none of it was instanced and involved lots of group events it would be very difficult for them to re-factor into Story Journal episodes.

But for now an in-game (optional) summary (could be a small video clip or something) would be great to catch people up who may have missed it.

With Home Portal Stones now available in the Gem Store, I feel that this is a good opportunity for ANet to give users a more enticing reason to purchase them seeing as Home Instances are not in a good place at the moment.

Personally for me, all I would need are:
-Crafting stations
-Armour repair
-A Black Lion Merchant?

How about everyone else?
(Besides trophies/housing – since that has been discussed already in other threads)

Mesmer confessions

Black Dragon.1504

I use greatsword unashamedly in dungeons and fracals, and occasionally just spam skill 1 on bosses so I can eat/drink at the same time.

I have never touched a torch, and probably never will. I also hate using mantras and will only ever use blade weapons regardless of whatever nerfs or bugs they have.

I don’t take PvP seriously (I only hot-fix), and will occasionally pick fights I know I can’t win just to see how long I can stall. But I am terribly sensitive to comments and will jump matches in hot-fix PvP or even quit if someone so much as hints that I am playing badly.

Aspect Crystals in Ascalon?

in Living World

Posted by: Black Dragon.1504

Black Dragon.1504

I doubt there would be. I was under the impression that the aspect crystals were scattered everywhere because the Zephyrites, who carry those crystals, had crashed in Dry Top.
Unless there was a Zephyrite crash in Ascalon, I would not expect any more crystals to show up.

How did your character...?

My character would have been disappointed that Belinda was weak enough to allow herself to be killed by the vine.
And he was also glad that Marjory had the decency to want to leave for a bit – he does not need any more emotionally compromising members in the team.

While I agree that the silence is disconcerting, I can’t help but think that they have likely implemented some form of sign-off process with responses on the forums – especially around bugs and other issues.
This means that while they can comment on how some ideas are ‘neat’ and other ‘nonsensical’ threads – saying things like ‘We are working on this bug’ or ‘This issue is currently being worked on’ can potentially work against them if they are uncertain whether they can actually fix the bug within reasonable time, so I suspect they have to check with a manager or something to see if they are able to respond and if not then tough, you get silence.

But that is mostly just guessing from my own experience with developing. /tinhat

Seeking advice for better PvP build

in Mesmer

Posted by: Black Dragon.1504

Black Dragon.1504

Hi everyone! I don’t post much in the forums but I would like some advice regarding my current mesmer build.

It is essentially the build proposed here

I understand that this build is likely quite outdated, and I have swapped by second sword for the focus purely for the speed boost as well as using the healing signet that was introduced after this build.
My right skills are also currently: Blink, Null Field, Decoy (Feedback in PvE) and Moa (Time Warp for PvE)

It has worked well for my play style through PvE, and has taken me through dungeons and fractals as essentially the most survivable of my group of friends that I play with and enough DPS to be significant.

However I have now begun to play PvP, and I find that I almost never hold a 1v1 and do not usually have enough cooldown/endurance to escape efficiently. A lot of this is a lack of skill, as I am very used to PvE where the enemies are relatively dumb, but I was wondering whether there was something I could do to this build to help me contribute to my team as well (I have only played hotfix as I do not wish to be a liability).

I am keen to look at other builds, but if this build is not a lost cause I would love to hear tweaking suggestions too.

EDIT: I also will mention that I have also been trying for Liadri, and usually I find I do not have enough DPS to finish her off in time. Would I need to change my entire build to defeat her proper?

Thanks everyone! /pvpnoob

Personally I have always liked that F was the ‘do something’ button. I would be frustrated at having multiple keys to do things that one key easily covers – but that’s just my shoddy memory.

The AoE loot idea I can get behind though.

Suggestion: Trait Reset-more toxic behavior?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Black Dragon.1504

Black Dragon.1504

only allowing traiting in cities will have no affect on OP’s issue. The demands will still be there. Only under the OP’s system, it will take players that don’t have the required traits more time to get them. This will discourage new players from joining groups. I think Anet has the right idea.

Touche – that is a valid point.

Suggestion: Trait Reset-more toxic behavior?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Black Dragon.1504

What are you talking about?

First off, don’t join those groups of players who ask you to change traits. If you are excluded from a group, make your own and have fun playing the way YOU want, with like-minded individuals.

Secondly, making it only work in major cities partially defeats the purpose of making it doable anywhere in the world since you would have to go to a place that the trainers were in in the first place. The only thing that would change at that point is the small cost associated with the reset would go away. This also would not stop people from “forcing” you to go to a major city to change stats to play with them.

Lastly, I still don’t understand why people like you simply cannot live with being excluded from some groups even when it’s just as easy to make your own group and let others play the way THEY want.

Don’t worry – I don’t plan to join a group of people like that. It’s not myself I am concerned about (I am happy to ignore those kinds of people), it’s the effect on the community that my concerns lie.

But I know my ‘solution’ is hardly solid (just a minor inconvenience if that) – but if anyone has any other suggestions then that would be great.

Black Dragon.1504

Hi Team,

I love the work you guys do, and I am very excited for these upcoming changes in the April Feature Pack (especially the wardrobe – I’m going to be spending a lot of time with that one)!

I like that there will no longer be any cost to resetting traits – it makes things more flexible for players, especially new ones, and people can try out different things without being punished for it.
However I was discussing this change with a friend, and she brought up a valid point. Being able to reset traits at a whim anywhere on the map may have a negative effect on the online community.

If someone wants to join a group in a dungeon, it will now be easier to request others to alter their traits so that the character works best with their group. Not inherently terrible, just inconvenient.
But if we think about how this will grow culturally, it will soon become expected to just ‘alter your traits’ for particular events (e.g. Tequatl, Wurm) regardless of whether you want to or not – and that could lead to flaming or exclusion (similar to how rangers are currently treated in dungeons).
I have a hard time enough as it is remembering my current trait set, let alone trying to swap between three separate ones on the fly. I don’t want to have to be told how I must change my traits if I want to be of any use.

While not a huge set back, I think at least limiting trait resets to major cities will help counter this sort of culture. It’s inconvenient, yes, but it does not punish you in the same way that spending gold would.
EDIT: There have been good counters for this. My question now is how can we counter the possible toxic communication this new feature could foster?

I am grateful that it does not cost anymore, and I will certainly have fun testing and trying out new things thanks to this change!

tl;dr – I am concerned people will start trying to impose certain forms of play on others due to the upcoming ease of altering traits
