It can provide a lesson. I play a ton of WvW on CD. 75% of the time in attacking blobs/zergs, it’s some hammer war rushing out to be the hero. MOA, then a likely down state/death, or at least the great subtle pleasure of watching them do a 180 and run…fast.

Honestly? In general, no. Ele’s have on-demand swiftness when needed or attunement change to air (if traited) and can simply ride the lightening + swiftness or mistform, away to safety, to heal and fight another day. Mesmer’s go down valiantly, PU won’t get you far (enough), by the time it takes to cast veil—your down. The problem being outnumbered is their AOE takes out your clones/phants too quickly. Portal/blink/Prestige can work, but you gotta be spot on timing. Again, JMHO.

Edit: I suppose we should define what is outnumbered for a Mesmer. 1v2 or even 1v3 is not really outnumbered. I’ve seen some of the great players even attack 5-7 players and take them. It’s rough 1v4+ though simply because of the cool-downs.

I think the majority of advice is about spot on. But you mentioned you’re a former pvp player and enjoy roaming / 1v1 activities. I have both mesmer (my main) and an ele. Put simply, if you like to actually win 1v1’s 70-90% of the time (wvw/pvp)….Mesmer all the way. If you enjoy playing a support role for thankless zergs (surely, you like supporting hammer warriors…?) Not that ele’s can’t excel at 1v1, but you will work and work hard for it. JMHO.

lmao…are you serious? There is zero time to dodge….huge zerg attacks….dead. Anet knows lag is the killer not necessarily the skills of the opposing team.

loot? casual players does not care about loot that much. only farmers.
dungeons? nice dungeons runs with casual guilds members. no zerker gear required.
armor? buy exotic set with karma or dungeon tokens. ascended armor not upon us yet.
weapons? buy exotic weapons with dungeon tokens or badges of honor. close enough.
personal story? good casual experience for the first time.
world bosses? tequalt may have failed for casuals. others still not too bad.
sPvP? hotjoin is good simple fun. standardized glory / rank got its good and bads.
WvW? run with the zerg or roam with friends.

well, casual players play the game and have fun with whatever they can get, find etc. if you have lots of demands then perhaps you are not very casual.

*Loot? No…champ farming nerfed to oblivion as well as magic find…no more exotics for you!
*Dungeon running? No unless your a full time zerker, with like minded quick runs. No heroes so you can try on your own
*Armor? Well i suppose if you crafted 500 hours for mats, i guess some call it “fun”
*Weapons…don’t make me laugh
*Personal story? 3 80’s later and haven’t been able to complete it even once!
*World bosses…Tequatil says it all…fail fail fail
*PvP i.e. hotjoins, “we don’t care how good or bad you are…here’s your glory…mmmkay?”

I’m trying to enjoy this game. It’s not GW1, but still, trying. You just keep making it so casuals cant get ahead in anything…ever. After 3 years of WoW kicking me in the teeth gearwise (pvp & pve), I learnt my lesson. It won’t 3 years here Anet, just saying.

Seeking the best of the best PvP and WvW. You enjoy 3v1. Zergbusters…is what I’m looking for. You can’t help but chase them down….that’s who I’m looking for. Towers are just a yummy treat. Plz be at least rank 20+, if you’re under, you must fight me 1v1 to join…and win.

The below picture is frequently typical on hotjoin matches. When one side starts to get a gap in score, people switch teams so they’re not on the losing side. There should be a penalty or substantial debuff time for this. To be frank, the autobalance doesn’t catch up very quick.

You will never get a legendary. Heck most of us struggle to even get exotics (chuckle away trolls, I really don’t care anymore). You will not see most dungeons. I’ve never been beyond AC story and I’m pretty sure alot of others haven’t either. You can’t solo them. Don’t even tell me to join a guild—my ex-guild was almost at max capacity and never help anyone. Never even been to WvW – gear not good enough. Typical. Most players could care less if you ask for help if you can’t do speed clears—because your obviously a noob. After making level 80, I had a whopping 80 silver.Thx ANET for even taking any earnings to simply travel, repair and AH cut. Perhaps you had more—just my personal experience. The game is fun from a general sense, but we get zero rewards for having fun. Just my humble opinion. Thank goodness this game is not WoW, where no-mater how much they cry and patch, gear > skill. The one thing ANET did right with GW2 in sPvP.I usually score top 3 on any given hot-join PvP. I guess the wacked glory system is it. Period. I still detest the cowards in sPVP who never face 1v1 and run away at the slightest hint of losing…you know who you are. I really don’t understand who this game caters to, and this is my second round trying to enjoy GW2.

So exactly, how is this even remotely considered balance? It’s not luck getting 27k damage, separate encounters, but back to back mind you. Stealth…stealth…dead. So fun!

I can feel you’re pain OP, my first 80 (only days old mind you, so I’m very much a casual) is a Mesmer, often I found I could only do the story if I was 3-5 levels above and uber tired of repair bills. My warrior I can do 2-3 levels above with sword/shield & traited/geared greens. My biggest gripe is that while the storylines are generally epic in themselves, the rewards are pitiful. I did a 54 lev story as 51, and got a level 50 blue helm? I mean seriously? Why would it hurt to not award a rare after like every 5th story? It’s not like gear stays on long while leveling anyways. But a blue you can’t even use? I do agree with skullfaerie somewhat though. Chin up, keep trying.

I miss heroes/henchmen/mercs, guild halls, doing vanquishing, solo running dugeons (Frostmaw HM was always fun!), I miss xyz-Way builds, I miss Jora & Gwen as my War heroes, GW1 Necro’s & Monks, but mostly I MISS MY RITUALIST!

My first attempt, after just starting the story, I blinked into a wall where I could not roll or blink out of by stairs, first level. Second round, I got clear back to the basement with the device, and blinked…to under the floor, where I could swim under the house (map) but not get back to surface w/o “leaving the area.” A little frustrating, mesmers have to blink here to get away from all the mobs. Just passing along.

ANET, I know you guys have excellent AI for heroes/MERCS as demonstrated from GW1. It gets really really old sitting outside AC or in LA hoping 4 others will need story-mode too. It’s like if you didn’t have an 80 in the first month, you’re out of luck. Guilds are fine, but it’s almost as hard as pugging when no-one wants to take a lowbie. The community may not be WoW (thankfully), but it’s certainly not far from it. Everyone, has their own agenda, e.g., “how does it benefit me to help you?” I don’t even have an 80 yet and read complaint after complaint for anyone to do an instance if your less than 80. Bring them back! Soon! Pleeeeease.

I can’t even say how many times I’ve rolled right off of difficult to reach to reach POI’s and vistas. Not everyone uses WASD! I hate it! I use spacebar, z, x which feels intuitive to me on a keyboard for movement. But, just as I reach my vista…bam…I roll right the frick off. Plz give us the option to assign roll/dodge to a different key.
