GOT IT! Mesmer can re-skin the break-apart particle effect to be something other than butterflies, like Asura could have the square-block “decompile” effect, Sylvari could be a swirl of leaves.

I’d certainly feel a bit more heroic than it currently stands.

Great minds and all, just made a shortform post with the same intention. I would kill for this, especially as a PVE player who can’t run turrets due to instant AOE death.

Everyone eventually abandons turrets for one reason or another. Mine was PVE, since the turrets can’t move out of AOEs, essentially a waste of ability slots.

Would it be viable to have the turrets function like a Necro pets, or just replace the “Turrets use ground targeting” to “Turrets are mobile and follow the engineer” just like Ranger spirits? Have to admit I would use them again despite the low damage.

New skins that change things we normally have no control over:

Warriors: New racial-themed skins for all your banners

Engineers: New faction-themed skins for kits / turrets (I want a flamethrower that looks like a dragon!)

Hunter: Multiple pet skins so not every wolf looks the same

Mage: Attunement skins that give an aura/footprints while in that attunement.

Guardian: Custom transparent skins for summoned weapons, including showing spectral ghosts wielding the weapons.

Not sure what to do for the Theif, what do you guys think for the other professions?

I would say that and being Downed when a boss dies and getting no loot and what you posted are two problems on a way bigger tier than anything to do with waypoints.

Even though I’m sure the Devs will hate this, I’m going to make comparisons to wow, which could be argued in the most successful mmo in ages.

In wow you can’t rez a dead player in combat. Players who choose to go to the graveyard can’t re-enter the boss fight and are locked out.

In GW2 you can rez a dead player in combat, and while we also can’t “graveyard” anymore we don’t get locked out of boss fights.

Technically we’re a step ahead (but I’ll agree some bosses are too hard).

I’m fine with the removal of rez and run, but now that we can’t abuse it, how about a new waypoint after every boss is defeated?

To be fair, imagine the totality of stuff they’re trying to fix right now. I’m seriously not going to lay down judgement of this game for a year. (who remembers all the messed up stuff in that other MMO when it came out?)

I keep saying it, I want Utilities in Tier 1 and Weapons in Tier 2. The fact that I can’t go full-bore ranged and traps is a bummer! (Skirmish puts ranged CD, trap CD, and ranged traps into a 2-trait spread, can only pick 2 of the 3).

This way you could get a few points spread into utilities so you didn’t feel locked into one type of utility, and could spread them enough to get any weapon-swap combo into viability.

Devs: You might not like if a player customizes a way you didn’t intend, but that level of flexibility makes people LOVE a class because they don’t feel boxed in or useless.

My thoughts on Ranger Trait Problems

For me the biggest problems with the traits is the overlap between utility and weapon. For example, going into Skirmishing I can’t go full traps and ranged weapons, so I’m instantly locked out of some customization (which I understand you can’t be everything to everyone).

I just wish Tier 1 was where all the utility traits were at, Tier 2 was all the weapon traits were, Tier 3 was an uber for weapons or utilities, and all the other abilities were spread out in-between.

There are SO MANY instant kill abilities in the game I can’t bother to look after my pet. In a boss fight, it’ll get one shotted for sure (and so will I, so I’d rather pay attention to what I’m doing).

I would be okay with pets taking substantially less damage from attacks that didn’t target them (like AOEs and the like) so any traits involving my pet would be worth it, but right now, not even close.

Also I hate that my pet birds flies so far in front of me it pulls agro on mobs I don’t want to fight.

Ranger's shouldn't have passive pets.

It would be interesting if your f1 ability was based on your trait line, like you wouldn’t have a pet unless you went into Beastmastery, you got some spell-like abilities in Nature Magic (like a druid), Survival gave you some stealth and different ways to set traps (like a large trap at your feet, or a smaller trap but you can set it from a distance), Marksmanship gave you a range a buffs you could trigger for any ranged weapon.

Now I’m sad that isn’t the case… awh.

No more rez rush? This might help.

Everyone boss has a “you must dodge this” attack, either a ground target or a cone cast in front of it. Some of the targeting for it is random, but most of the time it is aimed at players.

Downed players should no longer be targeted. This would not make a downed player a target-free zone, random chance could still get them, any player standing on or near them would still get targeted, and any pre-set ones (like the spike traps in AC) wouldn’t be affected since they are set and not targeted.

To many times a shout or attack has targeted me, I’ve been downed, an then the Boss starts their “instant kill unless you dodge” mechanic and there is zero chance to coordinate a rez. If downed players drop threat and aren’t targeted until all other targets are downed as well, this would help eliminate a lot of the need for rez and run bosses.

Oh and I forgot, if we can’t abuse waypoints, add more of them!

20% Utility Cooldown Inequality

Signets, survival, and shouts are 1st tier and don’t conflict with weapon Traits, while traps are pushed into a prime slot where you have to pick between traps or ranged weapons (shortbow / longbow CD 20%, Traps are targeted & 50% larger, Traps last longer & 20% CD, pick only two)

Why aren’t all utilities spread in Tier 1, all weapons spread in Tier 2, and then an uber for utility or weapon in Tier 3?

This way we could spec any weapon / utility combo, and you can choose if you want to champion utilities or weapons (and not get stuck favoring a single utility line).

I just hate that I either gimp ranged or traps, and can’t be an awesome trap ranger.

Make elite skills worth it

If you look at any class, you can define their Traits for any given build easily “Oh my Guardian is Greatsword / Shouts.” “My Ranger is Survival skills & Traps.”

However it falls short at Elite skills. As a Ranger if I Trait for Spirits or Survival, I have an elite that plays off it if I’m so inclined, but nothing for Shouts, Signets, or Traps.

What I’d like is five or so elites that work as an “end tier” from your selection of normal utilities, and the 30 pt appealing to any build.

I guess I really just want a 10pt elite that resets your trap cooldowns, a signet that on activation swaps your pet without triggering the cooldown, or a shout that makes you want to use the shouts (you know, and cool elites for everyone else as well).
