funny thief wvwvw group build

ok so basically if you can get a stacked group of thief friends you can pull this off its kind of kitten but really funny. 1 thief uses dagger/pistol rest use short bow 1 thief targets and marks people preferably the dagger/pistol thief.

the idea is every 1 runs together like the stacked ele groups that churning earth bomb people. the dagger/pistol thief drops black powder and the other 4 thieves cluster bomb the powder for the combo field instantly your group will have 10 seconds of stealth, full initiative, and many stacks of might and you can continuously do it over and over so you always get the jump on people and they never see you coming, once you find a group of victims what you do is mark a target every one assist to that target, then 4 trick shots for root, backstab, and 4 melee cluster bombs point blank from stealth they die just as your group reveals, mark a new target and then 5 mugs instant death, drop a black powder and every 1 is back in 10 seconds of stealth and full initiative rinse repeat. people wont have a chance to react and they wont be able to find you since every time you do stealth it will be for 10 seconds.

the build is the norm crit gear and traits are ->
10 deadly arts ->(III)
30 crit strikes->(I,VI,XI)
30 shadow arts->(V, IV,XI)

anyways its pretty fun to troll people with and it doesn’t take that great of coordination if you are using voice chat.

Not bad but I think you could of utilized Pain inverter much better by precasting it then stealing before it went off that way you would t get revealed by using it in stealth

after the first strike you can move freely the second strike your not locked in place, when mugging during the whirl mug and first strike hit same time, immediately followed by the strike you can move with

The reputation of flanking strike is justified as it do miss very often. Flanking strike consists out of 2 attacks.
A tiny stab with the dagger which removes one boon and after that a clumsy whirl which gets followed by the stronger hit with the sword. The second his is the one which tends to miss very often while the first hit doesnt.

I sat down and actually watched the animation today to check for these misses, because that’s how I thought the attack was myself. It’s not.

When you use Flanking Strike, you first do the whirl without attacking at all. Once you’ve spun around the opponent, you’ll stab with the off-hand dagger (which removes one boon), then stab with the sword in an attack that looks like the auto-attack chain finisher, which does higher damage. Both attacks occur after the whirl.

that’s why it works well with the mug combo when you precast it cause the whirl is usually what makes it miss, but steal puts you right on your target landing the first and second hit immediately, it doesn’t miss with precasting hitting, steal just at the end of the whirl. first hit strips a boon and crits for 2k second hit hits for 3.8-4k

Hi so I got bored and was playing around with new builds and came across this, its lots of fun and uses flanking strike as a very useful tool.

utilities are hide in shadows, shadow step, shadow refuge, signet of shadows, and bas venom.

traits are

Deadly arts 10- mug
crit strikes 30- furious retaliation, practiced tolerance, executioner
shadow arts 10- infusion of shadows ( these 10 are really just optional I took this out of preference)
trickery 20- thrill of crime, bountiful theft.

Gear is berserkers amulet, rune of scholar x5, rune of divinity x1, sword/bow with sigil of fire, dagger with sigil of blood lust.

the idea is to open with infiltrator’s strike, cloak and dagger, stun ect the normal but save steal, as soon as your target pops there boons precast flanking strike then hit steal you get fury, swiftness, might from thrill of crime and 2 boons ripped from enemy + vigor, strip an additional boon with flanking strike and do a combined damage of about 9-10 k from flanking strike and mug.

good for when a ele pops tornado, or necro in plague, thief dagger storming can strip stability and interrupt the elite. anyways I like it so far maybe some of you will enjoy it as well

well hasn’t happened yet :o guess I got good reflexes p/d thieves haven’t really bothered of me yet but then again majority of the time in wvw I use p/d and do fairly well so I know what to expect

Hello fellow thieves thought id try to be helpful and post some of the builds I have enjoyed so far in gw2 I like to switch it up so the game doesn’t get stale.

first is a roaming bs build

Deadly arts 10 (III)
crit strikes 30 ( I, X, XI)
shadow arts 15 (VI)
trickery 15 (IV)

for traits I use Hide in shadows, shadow step, Shadow refuge, signet of shadows, thieves guild.

gear is divinity runes
sigil of fire
sigil of blood lust
off hand bow -> sigil of fire

berserker amulet.

The reason I choose blind on stealth in shadow arts is for stomping and I seem to eat the most damage going into stealth gives me a chance to bs then make some room.

For wvw I use a condition/healing build

shadow arts 30 (V, VI, XI)
acrobatics 20 (II, X)
trickery 20 (III, VII)

gear im using is all condition damage, vitality, healing power. utilities are signet of malice, Caltrops, shadow refuge, signet of shadows, thieves guild.

runes are 2x afflicted, 2x centaur, 2x krait
sigil of life-> dagger sigil of agony -> pistol
I use veggy pizza for food.

I have a few other builds I mess around with in wvw focusing on shortbow if any one is interested ill post it hope it helps some people

I find that popping shadow refuge/ haste/ sneak attack and unload well in the sr bubble is enough healing through life steals to not use malice

shoot people and when you proc quickness spam unload and steal in the middle of the unload been playing around all night and have topped every game. roam and gun don’t try to hold points its not a bunker build amd know when to run its like ranged pistol whip but not as boring

im pretty sure the devs have admitted there is a problem with culling but I don’t think they have said it specifically affects thieves. I play on a laptop and I have had some culling issues in zerg fights over keeps where a majority of the enimies where invis but it happens not very frequently after playing with a bunch of people I have noticed a majority of the culling issues evolving around thieves are that people just don’t realize that thieves are posistional and usually pop up behind them and they never turn around Oo even some of my friends do it. OMG that thief was just using the culling bug….. umm no he was shooting you in the back by the time you turned around he went back in stealth and started shooting you in the back again..

another good one is to use scorpion wire just out front of the dark room and just keep yanking them off the ledges, just keep putting poison field down so they cant make the jump in combat and they will just stand there so you can pull them every time

best way to stop a majority of the culling issues in this game is to pan your camera, hes probably just standing behind you lol

umm combo fields seems people don’t pay attention to these very often in the thief forums, → shortbow. atm theif is the only class in the gam that can spam blast finishers consistently over and over that give heals and insane amount of buffs a lot more then venom share and 1 stack of might/swiftness/fury.

you with a guardian can give 25 stacks of might to the party well you are still doing dps and aoe retaliation. you with a necro can do aoe blind in ridiculous amounts well still doing good aoe damage, or buff the group with endless amounts of retaliation. you with a ele can aoe heal for about 2k well still doing lots of damage per blast finisher, also can stack loads of might and swiftness. you with a ranger can spam heals aswell and might stacks. with theifs you can stack weakness not very usefull in pve, and canalso aoe stealth witch can be good if you are stacking regeneration on allies when you stealth them. mesmers you can give long durations of chaos shield to every 1 in group.

if you are looking for a support role the only way to really go to be actually affective and still do damage is to focus on being supportive on there fields well using a shortbow with initiative regen and melee spamming cluster bomb into there fields.

the problem is joining fotm from an overflow server from lions arch when you dc and log back on you are not in the same overflow server as you were, there are several overflow servers because a overflow server is the extras from every main server that’s why you can group with any one from any server. But if you just join from the main la on your origin server you are restricted from joining with people from other servers because they would need to transfer since they cant switch to it to get into your fotm

Well support theif can be good if you have a party that knows what they are doing but to be honest most people don’t know how to use combo finishers to there full potential. We currently are the only class in the game that can spam blast finishers making it very effective in group pvp. But we don’t really have many combo fields to take full advantage of it on our own, But if you are in group stacking boon duration/healing you could be affective as a support role and still do decent dps, for example if a elementalist drops a water combo field on the ground and you spam cluster bomb you will heal aoe for 2k per cluster bomb.

If a guardian drops there fields down you could give every one 25 stacks of might and a very long duration of retaliation, you can also aoe blind in dark fields, stealth in blind fields ect as well as still doing damage to the mobs you are attacking.

the best way to do this is to stand close range to what ever field you will be bombing so its a short distance for the skill to travel so you can use it over and over and stack traits that allow you to regen initiative faster as. if you stacked healing power your combo finishers in a water field could hit close to 2.5k heals but if you just go a normal dps spec and put combo fields near the boss or mobs you are fighting you can be supportive and still do good dps. the other tip is to remember is that combo fields don’t stack and this is where the problems will start if you are in a bad group because say having a theif drop poison on a water field will make you finishers not heal but spam weakness
