GW 1 had independent auction sites that were reliable and legitimate. Do they exist for GW2? Quick glance on google didn’t turn up anything. Are they not allowed in GW2? I would guess they are not, since the TP exists and that would take away the gold sink of TP costs. Then again, there are out-of-game gem sources, though I don’t even know their legality.
Truthfully, I like to stay in game anyway, but I was just curious. Thought of it based on guy trying to buy Bifrost on this forum. I figured this question could warrant its own thread.
Wow I was almost more confused but now it’s clear…
I got the answer I was looking for – NOT the answer I was looking for – the Celestial armor is junk.
So Berserker/Scholar it is … with some PVT thrown in on chest, legs, helm until I feel comfortable full on.
Guess I’ll sell my Divinity’s & gear up!
My understanding thus far…
Focused builds in which everything builds to one aspect are far superior both in traits and gear.
So ALL Berserker is far superior for direct damage.
Berserker is a prefix (inscription) and a suffix (orb – upgrade slot) – rt?
I’m not sure on the Berserker vs Scholar – I think it’s a running debate but most prefer Zerk? Tho ppl argue strongly for scholar too.^^
But…
We all don’t function at that skill level & don’t like dying.
I know how to evade, but make mistakes I also find I can’t always evade out of aoe, etc…
Also I may change my build up and want to switch around (ie apply conditions) so seems like Celestial is a great way to go for me.
GO SPEARMEN!
So, I am new-ish to thief (obviously with a question like this). I leveled up and continue to run a D/P alternating SBow for aoe. I have been pretty much exclusively open world PvE. I would like to start doing more dungeons and a little WvW.
Once I hit 80/400 I crafted celestial gear because I had the crystals (& at time it was great with MF too!). I currently have Opals (PCP) and Beryls (PCV) mix.
I have 3 unbound Sup Runes of Divinity. Should I get 3 more & suit up or should should I be taking my thief gear in another direction? ie sell the Divines & just prep for ascended armor update.
I am a moderate skill player (improving, but no master) and still feel squishy (particularly getting hit with aoe, multiple range foes) so full berserker may still be too frustrating for me but I’m not sure. Should i consider Berserker/Soldier combo?
I am also looking to explore different weapons and builds without changing gear.
I suppose I should post my current build to see if I’m doing anything wrong there too… then if I improve my build/skill I could use all zerk ;/
Of course I just want to hear that Celestial/Divintiy is awesome & stick with it, but I don’t want to make a blind decision.
thanks in advance – ANY advice for a open world thief looking to expand & progress would also be much appreciated (ie how to approach dungeons&WvW as a beginner thief)
I think there’s a question too as to whether Crafted exotics salvage for DM. Anybody know for sure yet?
Any reason to use anything more than basic?
Also…
Is there any difference between salvaging a cheaper item than a more expensive one (in regards to Luck)?
Should the more expensive blue/green items (>1s) be merch’d instead of salvage?
What kit are you guys using to salvage? Master’s? Is it worth a BLT kit if you have a bunch?
Ha! I forgot that one. Thanks for the reminder.
Some methods I know…
- I rediscovered the gate to Fields of Ruin in east Divinity’s Reach during the Torch Run.
- Free travel to HOM first, makes Frostgorge and Fireheart WP’s cheaper
- Free return to LA through the Mists or WvW
Are there any other cool gates/travel around that are good to know about?
I’m glad you mentioned “general farming”. My engineer has been my main (90%) and with my comfort that I already have in general farming with that profession I may not want to risk soulbinding to a character I may not grow as comfortable playing.
It has me question: don’t I want the unlimiteds on a character I know I’ll be playing “out-there” the most and not necessarily the “best resource farmer”…
besides, if I am resource farming, I can gear up for the zone.
btw played a ranger in GW1 & can’t wait to play it in GW2 but I am an “alt-oholic” and messing around with some other profs first. Thanks for your post, now I’m putting ranger back on my short list.
What professions are the best for farming resource nodes?
My thoughts on characteristics…
a) fast movement speed
b) avoidance
c) hearty
So of course a Thief seems obvious for a&b (I have a new lvl80)
I added hearty cuz I’m thinking of doing a guardian.
I have a lvl 80 Eng with a chop-it-all axe.
More about me & why I ask…
Mostly because the unlimited gathering tools are becoming available again!
I missed them the first time but I got an axe that I put on my only lvl 80 at the time – my Engineer. Would love to not have to buy another for a complete set & just get her the 2 other tools.
but…
I now have a lvl 80 Thief so I’m considering getting her all 3.
also…
I think I’d like to start up a guardian and it would be great to run a character from the beginning with unlimited tools. I don’t really speed level – take my time completing things & gathering.
Anything else I should consider?
thnx!
Nobody has responded so I figured I’d weigh in, though its just my guess…
One year rotation
I too have wanted the unlimited pick and the sickle. I wasn’t playing GW2 those months and came back just in time to discover and purchase the axe.
I speculate that, given it was staggered 1 per month over 3 months, they’ll give it some time before offering them again (ie one year), but they will.
Would be awesome to have it sooner…
Thanks for the info! Saved me some frustration!
I know, lame newb question, but it’s getting late and I just keep running circles around her shooting at her with no damage to her… so what’s the trick?
Why stop at 5 characters? I’m going for all 8 professions:) Though quite early in the process I’m finding that each profession can be molded to a play style that is enjoyable to me, though it takes lots of time and research. Stopping at level 15 is way too early to form an opinion about a prof. I had no clue what a profession was going to end up really feeling like at that point.
Guess I’m more of am altoholic than you :P
Awesome thank you all for the support! I’m glad to hear it’s a simple matter of map rotation. I’m pretty confident now it will be painless on my server, Stormbluff Isle.
As soon as I finish this then I’ll have the joy of going down the explored area lists to get the Explorer achievements, that of course, I’m also close on.
evidently my old post did not post
Tried posting this earlier but don’t see it, sorry if its a repeat…
I’m at 96% map completion with my Engineer but know very little about WvW.
Any advice or hints about WvW with the goal of rapid map completion would be greatly appreciated…
Main ? – How does one get the points behind enemy lines? (I’m not a thief)
Thanks!
Excellent! Exactly what i was looking for, thanks to both of you!
I’m a very occasional player (due to real world constraints) and I’ve been looking for guidance as to what types of items to salvage verse those to sell on TP and haven’t come across anything yet.
I realize the question salvage vs sell is probably a loaded question as its dependent on so many factors – the current economy, and my place and goal in game (ie accumulation of wealth, crafting, throwing stuff in MF-which I haven’t done yet). I suppose I could just spend the time researching in-game and perhaps I’m just making it more complicated than it is, but…
Is there a forum thread I’m missing or a wiki guide somewhere that would help?
