Anet, on the topic of a new playable race

Nah, I would prefer Tengu first, I have been wanting to play as an Avicara Brave since Guild Wars one.

Tengu on the other hand are not locked into being just one kind of bird, but any possible bird in the world, a varity in plumage, crests and colors. They have a huge city near low level areas. No matter how much you want any of the icebergs to be a city for the kodan, it just isn’t.
I know that as of GW2 alone tengu does not seem overly intresting and so, but they have a long and established history in GW1 and being seen so little in GW2 means it is easier to polish/expand on their design, without it becoming too noticeably weird (like polarbears suddenly not being just polarbears)

I agree with you both Zeefa and Aedelric, If we get a new race it should be Tengu as not just would a playable bird race be unique for an MMORPG (and I think a FIRST), not just do they have this awesome Japanese flavor (tho I detect a dark, ancient South-East Asia untone that I would save for their darker faction only, if at all) BUT LOOK WHERE THEY LIVE!

On the world map you can see Guild Wars 2 has a diverse set of terrain and scenery but it’s missing Desert (wish we had Crystal Desert) but the Tengu area, past their wall, looks alternating sandy and green with islands! Not just that! This would give the developers the perfect opportunity and excuse to add Japanese themed weapons and armor like ?-yoroi and katanas! Guild Wars 2 needs these Angry Birds! xD

But some have wondered how such would be customized including “hair” and I’m going to show these possibilities both for players and hopefully for the developers to include:

Feedback/Questions: Town clothes, Costumes, & Combat

Brokeback.9543

This could be very simple.

Some people were asking for the chance to wear Town Clothes as armor. They got their wish, but for technical reasons many Town Clothes wouldn’t convert over to armor as-is.

To keep Town Clothes in the game for the people who bought them, they adopted the “Outfit” system, which bypasses those technical issues at the cost of the ability to mix-and-match individual pieces.

I appreciate that they did what they could to keep us from completely losing our Town Clothes, but they didn’t count on something; that NOBODY who purchased Town Clothes bought them to wear in combat, because you couldn’t wear them in combat. EVERYBODY bought them to wear around town. These were Role Players and people who wanted to create new, individual looks for themselves to show off. If nothing else, it was a way to get attention without flaunting a Legendary weapon or flashing a Commander’s icon.

Unfortunately, the Outfit system does away with the ability to create a unique look. One size fits all, with very limited colors to boot. I’m glad they tried to let us keep our Town Clothes, but Outfits do not fit the people who purchased Town Clothes. I doubt they will see much use, since they are unable to provide the individuality craved by their target audience.

What I see as a solution: Start from scratch if necessary and remake all the old Town Clothes that we bought. Turn them into individual armor skin pieces that work under the new system.

The darker sides of this issue bring forth questions of future trust in the company, as well as anger at being hit in the wallet. I believe both those complaints could be mostly dissolved if they took steps to make all of our old Town Clothing pieces into armor skins. Not one-piece Outfits. Not one-piece undyable tonics. If they tell us this is happening, we will wait as patiently as possible while it gets done.

Agreed. If this was the course of action that within say… a year (hopefully less).. we could get access to ALL our town clothes pieces as armor/armor skins under the new warddrobe system… then I could be satisfied to wait once it was clearly announced and promised and either a. I did not have to repay for them or b. was refunded temporarily what it costs for them and could rebuy the armor version when it comes out. I appreciate your solution Hamfast, though I still can’t believe what Arenanet has been saying to customers. Anyway, I don’t see why copying and editing the models and code would be much more difficult than creating 3 brand new armors per named set released.

We do understand and sincerely apologize that there are creative combinations of town clothes that will not exist anymore. Many have asked why remove town clothes as a concept. It boils down to we believe better armor skinning and the outfit system…

…When we started looking at bringing more of the clothing back into armor with mix and match styles there are some fundamental incompatible things between weight classes. (part of how we set up every armor to allow many dye channels and styles per piece).. There really is no way at this point over six years since we started development to make absolutely everything work together. So we needed something new to continue to grow in the future…

….As always we ask you to try out the new system of customization and see what’s available to you. I think many people will be surprised by how many pieces have become armor compatible. We hope the benefits to the outfit system and wardrobe in terms of future support and additions will be clear, and you can look forward to more new outfits coming very soon.

I bought at least 15 pieces of individual town clothes (shirts, cargo pants, riding pants, riding boots, etc) for my various characters so they could have a unique look when I desired it.

I did NOT buy them in order to get a bunch of tonics that can not be dyed and will force all my characters to look like uniformed clones.

Very bad bad idea and not a very nice way to treat players if this is what is going to happen. …

I think I’ll start gathering all my stuff together to demand a refund when the time comes and from this point on I’m going to be very cautious about what I buy in the gem store since, apparently, what you buy isn’t what you get to keep anymore. The light flamekissed was debacle enough – this is even worse.

Arenanet, Mr. Johnson:
As you can see from others, what matters is not your “nice desires” but the what this fellow said “apparently, what you buy isn’t what you get to keep anymore.’”

1. I sincerely want to know, with no facetiousness or bad faith, does Arenanet support fraud?

2. Is this what “So we needed something new to continue to grow in the future.” looks like? Is this what that means?

3. Does Arenanet not respect property rights?
4. Am I not to make a purchase decision with a truthful description of said item and that item will, in fact, match description?

5. If I am to receive truthful descriptions and products/services that match from ArenaNet, how do these descriptions…

“Get cooking with this six-piece outfit (hat, shirt, pants, boots, gloves, and frying pan). Equip the frying pan to get five fun, nonlethal costume skills!

Does not affect cooking craft skills; you just look better doing it. Town clothes cannot be worn in combat."

or Fancy Winter Outfit’s in-game description
“Contains five pieces of town clothes (hat, uniform, boots, gloves, toy scepter), making up a Fancy Winter outfit. Town clothes cannot be worn in combat."

…match with Arenanet’s statement “Town Clothes sold through the gem store as outfits, such as the Pirate Captain’s Outfit, will be usable as a single outfit skin through the Wardrobe.”

Those are clearly a different amount of items for different slots to what I am now hearing you describe. When I purchased different town clothes for different slots I also read and understood they were separate gear I could put into the separate slots for which they were described. I hope there is a huge miscommunication somewhere among Arenanet staff about the upcoming release otherwise would be too appalling to even consider. I’ve trusted Arenanet as a company who is honest, who will provide what they describe, who can be trusted with my credit card and my money and I cannot fathom that this may not be so. Please show me my trust was not mistaken.

I expected things added to the game as growth, I cannot fathom bought things taken away and I hear you say "There really is no way at this point over six years since we started development to make absolutely everything work together. ". If this is really so, might I suggest the game is over for those who paid for those things and will not tolerate them taken.

We do understand and sincerely apologize

A few years ago my store was robbed. The thief apologized. Given he did not return my belongings… I did not accept his apology. (until I gained recompense)

I’ve always believed Arenanet is a company who is honest, who will provide what they describe and who can be trusted with my credit card and my money. Please show me my trust was not mistaken.

Please don't make traits start at 30

Brokeback.9543

To respond to the OP, The current system, at lvl 11 you read a book that unlocks up to 10 trait points and that is where you start investing and get your first trait point. Up until that time, you have no traits. At lvl 40 – 20 trait points and lvl 60 – 30 trait points. There is not a way one can unlock grandmaster skills at lvl 10 or even lvl 40. The way the current system is going, you can only unlock 30 points at lvl 60 – so the GM points would be at 60.

What they are trying to do is prevent kitten builds, I have done it myself when the game started, I had a build with only 14 pnts in one trait, missing the idea of the next trait. The are simplifying the system and at the same time, making it easier to retrait.

I find no negatives and all the benefits of this situation.

Dusty, I can understand why you’d think that and if I wasn’t reading and researching as much as I have I probably would be of the same opinion as you (especially given you’re almost certainly a longer player than me with my lowbies and only using my credit card a few times for gems) . However as you can see at their post they wrote “Starting with this feature pack, new characters will unlock the adept tier at level 30, the master tier at level 60, and the grandmaster tier at level 80.”. Previously, Grandmaster unlocked at 60 but if they go ahead it will be at 80, Dusty.

As for people making uneducated builds I see two solutions based on these questions:
1. How do people learn best? How do babies learn? Restricting options or allowing experimentation? Being told how to walk or letting them try it but in a way they don’t have disastrous consequences? I believe allowing experimentation like trying to walk, free and easy retraiting is excellent and the right way, while on the other hand restricting experimentation, preventing any type of attempts to walk until “the right age” / level or even locking the baby into a rail system where only the “correct” walking procedure will be allowed, is detrimental and not “true” learning. Let players experiment with traits earlier when their minds are still open to their concept of the game rather than waiting till they are 30 to learn how to walk.

2. When a teacher or parent should give guidance, not take control, so why not simply have a popup when one is about to trait in a very inefficient way? That way they know and learn and can even get different build tips on their class warrior, ranger, whatever. Also, who says that it’s an accident? What if someone chooses to trait strangely because they know the downsides but have a special purpose? What about the mere idea of choice and freedom? Is every hero perfect? Don’t quirks also add to uniqueness? Not everyone’s style choices are perfect, but I rather have people have freedom than a few carbon clones of “perfection”.

Greater than all that however is my nagging and tearful sense of loss having my trait power, my choices cut down early during the part of the game I value most – my personal story (and playing with others personal stories while low and still some challenge). From the Orders everyone’s story is more alike and level 26-30 is when the Order is chosen. I’m just less me without traits, with less choices and I even have to wonder why my Order would want someone with no valuable traits? Much less players and parties for early dungeons and even some later dungeons if they’re giving so few trait points even after level 30 until I get 2 at level 66. This sincerely depresses me. A friend showed me the game and it’s weapon system wasn’t what made me excited, but it’s trait system did from early. That same night I bought the game. Now it appears part of what I bought, that content, is gone for so long and not in the part I enjoy playing, with multiple low characters, is tragic to me.

Someone said something along the lines of we shouldn’t be complaining, there are Experience Scrolls. That hurts my heart. Why would I want to skip the most compelling part of the game for me or at least make the personal story a breeze by doing it at that level. I tried with a friend during “The Commander” storyline and a scary amount of guards popped up and I thought we were in for a real challenge. Essentially one spell and they all disappeared… apparently the personal story does not scale well. That wasn’t fun. Isn’t this game supposed to be fun?

I’m very sad that my options are being taken away, it’s not what I saw when I bought the game but I understand the truth too: It take a very big person to admit what they’re doing may not be the best thing. That a person or an organization can be wrong. ArenaNet would be a very special organization indeed if they changed the low level trait removal at this point.

Pants! Pants! Pants!

Naus has it spot on with the current female light options, of which one could argue have their issues, and as for males the only ones I find don’t make me look like a eunuch are Apprentice/Acolyte and Gem store Phoenix leggings. Both are pants and skirt but at least they have more shape than the pure pants options of Ascalonian or Embroided. We need more pants, chaps and candied apples.

Brokeback.9543

Please ArenaNet, I am begging please to allow our characters to have traits from at least level 15!

My characters are special, even though mostly low level, BECAUSE of all the choices I can make. Please don’t take away my traits. I want to see my specialness early, in my personal story and early story dungeons. Don’t take away so much power and uniqueness from me. I even bought rare transmute stones to wear some higher level gear styles at low level but my abilities are a big part of that specialness and uniqueness. I feel sick and extremely sad that these changes are taking a significant amount of that away from me and I won’t be able to enjoy my traits where I want to most: my personal story. Also in every game I have played (and real life) progression should be easier and gains faster early and slower later in the areas one becomes more and more specialized or skilled in. I really don’t like the idea of having to wait till max level to “enjoy” things. I feel I’ve missed the point of them by that time: for use in my personal story. Shouldn’t I be able to choose who I am and write my own story in choices of traits as well as skills and moral dilemmas? I want to see my traits during the most personal of personal stories, the earlier parts.

I understand some people might have been confused by traits but that only posed a problem in the past because changing had a cost and inconvenience. If you make it so it’s free and anywhere to change people can afford to experiment with them as they play and see what they like and learn them rather than being fearful of them and fearing making a wrong choice. Doing this is enough to stop the vast majority of your concern over confusion and allows people to play in new ways free from penalty and full of experimentation… but not if you prevent us from having traits until so high of a level (please don’t laugh because I value not outleveling my personal story) and even at those levels being given so few points to experiment with and then a confusing acceleration of points at the end. That’s not how I want to play. That’s not my story.

More Emotes! D:

Brokeback.9543

I support more emotes!
I think there should be enough different styles of the emotes as well that you can express your Personality (Dignified/Cute/Aggressive/Diplomatic Charm/Militant Civilized Aggression/Charming Scoundrel/Unstable) you supposed chose/earned.
Some I’d most be interested in (and I bought the Bouquet of Roses 1st Valentines just for some of the awesome kinda emote stuff) are, in rough order:
Sit in chairs! (and emote in them). Object interaction / context sensitive options emotes.
bearhug / hug / embrace / flirt / showygreeting (e.g. exaggerated dashingly elegant bow) / lounge
stop or halt (with noise enough that people actually will stop) / applaud / crossarms or and suspicious / curse (also lightheaded/sway when actually drunk and persists as walk)
digust / dismiss or shoo /dustoff / drink / toast / danglefeet (sitting where edge)
sigh / scout / peeraround (corner high) / peeraroundlow (corner low) / go (with noise enough people will go) / meditate.

That’s my thoughts.

Underwater combat no longer being supported?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Brokeback.9543

Brokeback.9543

One of the main reasons I even bothered with this game was that the devs made underwater combat unique and actually made it part of the game.

Hahah, you almost got me! This, ladies and gentlemen must be the best troll post of 2014…so far.

D I V A

I’m not sure you should assume that that’s a troll. 3d combat is a great idea that you don’t see in many MMOs and I especially loved in a certain “superhero” MMO with flight powers, jumping ground attacks and more. I think GW2 underwater combat should be improved more so it can be truly 3d combat being able to place spells/fields anywhere in a 3d space. That’s something quite special for an MMORPG vs. 2d plane combat or pretend 3d with multiple flat planes.
