Maybe they could just add the option to hide your character when zoomed in all the way?

UI customization

…and i think that some dev replied in another topic to something similiar, he said that they wont fully customize the UI, because it would need much more ressources etc… so they choose wisely what should be customizable and they are trying to make it simpler and good enough for everyone without need of customization…

Please don’t speak for the devs unless you can provide a link back to their original post.

That would be like me saying, “i think some dev totally said that all of teh guardians with armor dyed blueberry and strawberry are going to get teh huge buffs that will instantly give them all teh goldz/gemz/booty instantly”. And then someone else on some other thread would be like “ohhaiz!! devs are saying free gold and booties for all strawberry and blueberry guardians!!!”, and then all the guardians would be running around with fruit-flavored vomit costumes and just imagine all the tears and bloodshed that would cause?

In all seriousness, I really would like to see any dev comments on the topic of the UI. If anyone else has come across posts that would help explain why they like it… uh, the way it is… please link to them here.

I poked around the forums for quite awhile trying to locate something myself (which is actually pretty difficult since it won’t allow you to search on users/dev’s posts). I like to do my due diligence, but trying to find anything in these forums is about as easy as scanning through microfilm of old newspapers at the public library…

There’s a post over in the suggestion forum that would address this issue, maybe if enough of us go over and +1 it, we’ll get their attention:

UI customization

This had never been a big priority for me until the 4/30 update that totally butchered my experience. I’m an Eyefinity user, and now have the pleasure of having all the UI elements shoved together right in the middle screen… right in my face.

GW2 is a beautiful game, and I’d really like to be able to see more of the environment when I play. Less blocky, ugly, UI…

Agreed. Having to physically turn your head to see the chat panel on the left edge of the left monitor is a ridiculous idea.

For many of us, we could care less if the chat window is positioned on the far left and think it’s just as ridiculous to have the chat window and the minimap blocking visibility on the main screen. It’s pretty clear to anyone reading this thread that some of us like the UI centered and others do not. Why, oh why Anet, do you presume that your entire player base wants the same thing?

Please give us the ability to re-position UI elements! At the very least, give your players an option in the settings to toggle the UI back to full screen. Right now, this UI feels like something that should exist on a console…

Eyefinity now screwed up!!

There’s another older thread w/ more detail about this issue that I think we should all vent our frustrations in over here:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/Eyefinity/page/2#post1935646

In the meantime, you can run your game in “windowed” mode to put the UI elements back to the left/right sides of the screen (at least it worked for me). I hate the crappy borders it puts in place around my window, but at least the game is playable again…

Can I get a refund for $400 of wasted gems?

I share your pain OP. I posted over in the tech support forums that there’s somewhat of a workaround if you change your game to run in “windowed” mode. It’s not perfect because of the crappy borders that puts around the screen, but at least it shifts the UI elements back to the left/right.

In the meantime, it looks like they’re taking a lot of flack over there, so hopefully we can shame them into fixing the issue. Or better yet, giving us the disturbingly obvious solution – the ability to move UI elements like pretty much every other MMO has had since … um, GW1?

Quick note first – for all you Eyefinity users who liked the original far left/right UI placement, you can try running your game in “windowed” mode in the UI settings. I don’t particularly like running my game this way since the borders around the window look like crap, but we’ll call this a workaround for now…

Now what I really want is the next ArenaNet employee to post on this thread to answer this one question: How is it even possible that the predecessor to this game has a far superior UI, with totally customizable window size and positioning… and eight years later the sequel doesn’t even come close?

Eight years! It boggles the mind. It’s laughable. It’s embarrassing… for you.

Feedback: Guardian Greatsword change, 10/7

I understand the need to tweak/nerf skills for balancing and I think that’s fine – I’m sure all that will change again in a future update anyway. However, moving the skills around on the Guardian’s skill bar rubbed me the wrong way.

Whenever Anet makes changes like this, I fondly think back to Colin Johanson’s “Is it fun” blog post: http://www.arena.net/blog/is-it-fun-colin-johanson-on-how-arenanet-measures-success (its a good read – gives me a lot of hope for Anet)

One challenging aspect of making the game fun is that “fun” is subjective – we all think that different things are fun. Some people think folding paper is fun. Some people think jumping out of airplanes is fun. There’s a wide spectrum, and that’s the key. Anet shouldn’t force players to play the way they want them to play – they should encourage players to play their own way by providing the means (options/customizations/etc) to do so.

Why? Because we’ve been able to do this for years. Countless games have given us the ability to choose how we want to play: keymappings, camera views, UI window positioning etc. Usually those games are the most successful/fun. When a modern game doesn’t provide enough customization options, it becomes frustrating for us. It’s no longer “fun”.

Reward those kittensurrect the fallen

The reward is enough. Otherwise, it is too easy to abuse that feature.

1. Get a char, fall to death (taking no equipment damage)
2. Other player can rez me for xp/karma/gold.
3. repeat as needed.
4. ?
5. profit!!

So no changes to the mechanic please. It is too easy to abuse.

Except that Anet apparently has a way to determine if you die from accident vs. combat (hence the no equipment damage), so they’d be able to only add rewards for rezzing for combat death…

Oh, and I really liked Rich.9503’s suggestion to give a little Karma bonus for rezzing. Cuz, when I rez someone IRL, I usually get a little Karma…

As it stands GW2 combat mechanic continues to feel a little cumbersome/dated. There are so many games out there that have done this right, it really surprised me when GW2 came out and it felt so similar to GW1.

Please give us some more combat options! =)
