Hey,
Former GW1 gvg´er and current GW2 WvW´er here.
Iv read this post and some of it i agree and some i dont. Ill just post some thoughts i find relevant.
1. GvG on GW1 was an awesome gameplay concept, very tactical and unforgiving. The learning curve was so high that new players rly struggled to do well. Although Gw2 has the potential for something like it, it will always be miles away from it due to gameplay dynamics, wich is neither good or bad, we would have to try it out.
2. Gw1 GvG was not paradise (although it was awesome!). The GvG community always had several issues and changes where always being demanded: nerf this, nerf that, buff this, remove VoD (Victory or Death) Vs bring it back…same old story. The beauty of it, imo, was that a balanced team, well played an commanded could outplay any other team build.
3. Original GvG had NPC´s: guards, Guild Lords (game ends when 1 of the GL´s die)…and it was fun, although VoD was always under hot debate. There was also a perma buff under dispute – the flag – and a player that was mostly dedicated to it – the flagrunner – that no1 wanted to play : P .
4. Guild Halls where a big part of the strategy coz each map had different dynamics and advantages that could better fit ur team startegy (ex: split or balanced).
5. GW2 GvG is…unfullfilling to say the least. If it was to be a deathmatch i believe it wouldnt be as exciting as the original. From what iv written so far, u can realise that theres was a lot of situations and strategies that u had to consider during a game and all very relevant: when to put flag on stand, when to spike target, when to split some members of ur team…being a DM, its just poor imo. I do understand that many may disagree as they have been creating this kind of game for the last 2 years coz ANET havent given us a proper 1.
6. If there is to be a GW2 GvG and if its similar to the original but with a 15 or 20 man guild prty, i bet its gonna be nothing like what you have seen so far. I imagine it would be fast paced, dynamic, and new meta will arise although i can also see some WvW or pvp builds being in good place to run, depending on strat. Organized grp Vs organized grp with strategical demands relating environment (ex: guarantee, buff, defend base, etc) is what made this game unique. In 2 weeks, u will have a very tactical and demanding gameplay genre. Thats what we, as players want, but i believe thats what ANET is trying to avoid coz of the huge and step learning curve to be a gvg´er.
6. GW1 was all about guild reputation: the tag was everything (there was no servers, ik) and in the gvg community you could be rewarded w golden, silver and bronze capes…ye, capes : P . Also, observe mode was a huge adittion, where u could learn and watch the best players from theyr own point of view. Priceless.
7. The bridge between WvW and GvG needs to be carefully thought. I want gvg, but i dont want WvW to be empty and im guessing a lot of players feel the same. Iv alrdy wrote in this forum how i believe this could work just look for it if ur interested.
8. Ppl will always complain.
Cheer,
Active servers did not happen by accident. They happened by design, by talented players.
If you have no talent, don’t blame your opponents.
Hmm, so Gandara has talent coz they got gifted with free transfer on season 2? Granting them easy win an enourmous influx of players? Nothing against Gandara, name its what matters less here, the point is that some servers got stronger coz of Anet bad calls. And ye, some servers got empty coz of that too, so, major imbalance…
Your argument might be true for some servers, just dont generalize it that much.
Bubba
Very sad news.
Eris will be deeply missed (also) in game. He was respectful and helpful as one could be.
As member of GH community, and WaCo leader, we will pay our respects to his memory throughout the next days.

For once, a good idea – PPK! Not so sure about the white sword removal but i understand the idea about testing it out.
More relevant than anything else is the overall attitude this shows. Its good to know they are, effectively, considering changes and they will have trial periods. Im also very happy about the nerf on siege disabler.
Good signs Anet, keep it up!!
Er…Why would a situational big flow of pve players in wvw maps solve anything?
Also, “unique rewards” dont go along with WvW as we´ve seen so far, sadly.
They alrdy have tons of posts and threads that end up the exact same way: ppl throwing ideas about how to fix/ revamp WvW. Its pretty clear thart either they dont want it (wich i believe) or dunno how to reprogram for that.
Cheers,
For megaserver WvW you would have to make faction/ alliance matchups, rely on guild reputation and track guild activity.
Iv alrdy posted my op on this on some other thread and i totally agree.
EOTM was not a solution to anything imo. Has some good ideas on it but, in the end, totally wasted resources. I feel bad when i go there w my guild coz no rly good fights: 1 hammerstun = 3 downed players…ye, the killing spree doesnt feel challenging at all.
But, nothing will change while we watch for the collapse of Bronze and Silver league. Maybe not even then. Anet doesnt care. They treat WvW as a “project that went wrong”. Maybe they always wanted something like EOTM.
Cheers
Anyway, this is supposed to be “Guild Wars”.
The guilds in the game title are nothing to do with player guilds.
Please read the lore:

Mate… -.-
Well, when we have something like EOTM its rly hard to argue that GvG would harm WvW.
WvW has already been harmed coz it has been greatly neglected: same mechanics, same maps, “waiting – EOTM – room” is nothing but that, weird additions like siege disablers, bugs that took forever to be solved and some that still exist…the list is endless.
Being a former GvG player in GW1 and seeing how it was able to build an active, well knit and competitive community it was always hard for me to understand how they dropped the idea in GW2. Btw, there are still GvG´s ongoing in GW1, its still active, there´s still tournaments. I mean, real tournaments, not seasons that dont change and mean nothing.
So, by adding GvG in GW2 you would definitely hope to:
a) bring back players that left GW2
b) expect that the hardcore population of GvG´ers still in GW1 migrate to GW2
c) have proper tournaments and competitive play (major issue imo!!)
I do understand that adding GvG in a way that it relates to WvW would have to be carefully thought but its absolutely possible imo.
Cheers, Bubba
Hey, totally agree with overall idea.
Already wrote a post about it (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/wuv/wuv/Solution-to-fix-the-population-imbalance/page/24#post4476024).
Guild loyalty and rep is far stronger than server rep, imo. And if you want to stay guildless, you would just have to assign yourself to a color faction at the beginning of each matchup. Quite easy. Anyway, this is supposed to be “Guild Wars”.
Iv already seen a WvW server crumble to dust in UW (former APE in good old days) and I believe we can see more and more of that in near future if nothing changes…
Cheers, Bubba
Hey, we´ve having same discussion over and over…solving 1 single problem in WvW wont solve WvW. So, either think about a major overhaul or dont touch it at all. Iv posted my op about it alrdy (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/wuv/wuv/Solution-to-fix-the-population-imbalance/page/24#post4476024).
Also, WvWers are a breed of its own, we are more about battle experience than scoring or pts (doesnt mean we dont care!), so, would be awesome if you could ask the community how to improve battlefield experience instead of scoring. Surely, nobody would advise a siege disabler.
Make a factions WvWvW battlefield, single map and assign Guilds (ye, get rid of servers) to every match to keep it balanced, according to 3 different playtime day-period.
You will get always balanced matchups, and that will end up creating a Guild ladder/ reputation to every period. Every Matchup would always be fresh, new and wouldnt be a pain to last for 1 whole week.
Also, its about time we have GvG introduced. Is it rly that hard? We need gvG tournament and we need GvG Challenge Banner that a guild can lay down in a map and another can accept if they like.
This would actually bring back the sense of this game being called Guild Wars
Sry for the bitterness, but i cant avoid it anymore.
Hey, guess the activity on this topics shows well how WvWers rly need a big change. Its impossible to have read all topics but ill risk putting in my 2 cents.
My idea would basically mean a complete overhaul of how WvW works. Fyi, im a former GW1 and GvG player and currently playing GW2 WvW (nothing else : P).
1. Fusion of maps between WvW and EOTM, keeping the 3 colour factions scheme. 1 Single map, EOTM style and not 3 separate like actual WvW;
2. Change reputation from Server to Guilds, meaning the end of servers as we know it in WvW. Guess ppl who didn’t play GW1 might be afraid of this but, from my experience, Guild rep is much stronger than any server rep. No gems from transfer ANET…er.
3. Track guilds activity (hour, points gained for your faction) and make a ladder with guild reputation in WvW (!!!), according to those periods.
4. The beginning of each matchup would see Guilds being assigned faction according to points gathered on, say, 3 different periods of the day (8h each), keeping the balance. ANET could make as many matchups as they like…so, solves the empty WvW server´s issue. This way, a 1 week matchup would be no problem at all.
5. Tracking guilds WvW activity would allow a good assignment to forthcoming matches (ANET responsibility) and, therefore, solve 2 big problems: Population imbalance (again, ANET can start as many matches as they want, say 15-20), and “Night capping” issues severely reduced. Also, PPT would be replaced by Kills, Stomps and Secure map points.
6. Introduce GvG Tournament Arena where Guilds could battle each other (10 Vs 10, 20Vs20) in elimination rounds, say, best out of 3 wins; and also introduce the Guild Challenge Banner (upg with merits and influence), that a guild can lay down on the ground and another can pick up and accept or not. That GvG would have a timelimit of 25 mins. Result would give reputation to winning guild and points for the winning faction side. This would need a thread of its own to develop more insight on it.
7. A concentration of more than 40 players in a 1200 area would give a full map alert and a debuff on that grp, renewed every 2 mins if it still stands. This is to reduce zerging and karma training and improve battle experience overall.
8. Make breaching towers and keeps easier but getting the cap much harder (ditch the golems and siege disabler ideas plz…).
9. Introduce “Ressurection Sickness” when a player rallies/ gets bannered: A player with this debuff (lasting like 2 mins) is truly dead if HP gets to 0 again, no downed state anymore. Meaning: every1 has a chance for 1 rally when downed and not continuously… This would allow samller, more tactical groups to fight bigger numbers more effectively = better fights for every1.
Ty if u took the time to read all this!
