Thanks for sharing the upcoming changes Chaplan, but I haven’t seen anything mentioned in any posts or in the state of the game regarding changes that are so desperately needed to the matchmaking system. Rank 50’s getting grouped with rank 2’s really needs to stop. I would much rather wait a little longer in queue than get placed in a group with people who just bought the game or who just started tpvp’ing.

Can you please comment on this because I have seen nothing mentioned on it.

There has been a LOT of forums posted recently pertaining to Warrior. I’m wondering what the balance team feels about Warrior as it is currently. Most of the “information” presented in these forums is just downright wrong. It’s a lot different than Spirit Rangers where it was apparent that there was very few exploitable weaknesses. The current Warrior meta to me is only strong because it aims to counter the condition heavy meta, which I feel was an attempt to allow the players to shift the meta on their own without directly nerfing said builds in the current meta. The builds we run have several counters, you just don’t see them frequently because they aren’t popular currently. If Warrior remains how it is we may see a shift in the game so that for example Mesmers come back into the fray to counter the Warriors that are Countering Rangers and Necros.

I just pray that you do not listen to these forums filled with incorrect information and “shave” Warriors back into mediocrity so shortly after we were made useful after a year of being the punchline of every PvP joke.

Heya Bear, played in a pick up grp with you the other day for about four or five games (was on my necro Bluhde). My guildie Kata and I are looking for a stable grp of players to synergize with. We’ve both been top 100 players (before our team dissolved). Hit me up if you wanna run together again and see if we can get a couple more to establish a working team.

Just my 2 cents. I hear a lot of people complaining about the “meta”, condi, etc. It makes me a little sick to hear so many people complaining about it…whine whine….I say this because my main has been a warrior since day 1. If anyone has ever had room to complain, it was us warriors. You don’t have much room to complain until you have played what was the weakest class in the game for a quite a while.

Now, that said, what people need to be more concerned with (and the devs need to address) are not so much meta (the player base determines the meta ppl…) are the SYSTEMS currently in place. MMR/matchmaking, etc. is completely broken. There also needs to be a requirement that one is first X rank before they can queue for tournaments. I have literally had people on my team (solo q and team q) where they were rank 1 and never played a single match….or a hotmatch for that matter. This is a major problem. Reach rank 15 or 20 atleast before you can even queue for any tournie so you can learn the basics and have a remote clue as to what you are doing.

Completely agree with OP for a number of reasons. They need to fix the match making system. It is completely broken. They also need to drastically increase the penalty for leaving/not showing up to a match. FIVE (5) times and you get a penalty?? That is a joke. You leave a match 2 times and you are temp banned. Nuff said on that.

There are a lot of other tpvp issues that need addressing as well and to put so much attention on PAX makes no sense to me at all for a game that has such low visibility/viewers as it pertains to eSports to begin with. I understand the intent is to increase the visibility via PAX, but you are putting the carriage before the horse in this case. Get things ironed out with your game first…then promote it.

Problem:

I have literally had rank 1s, 2s, etc. who are completely new to pvp on my team in both solo queue and team queue. I am currently pvp (glory) rank 47 and leaderboard rank 500. So why am I getting people who are brand new to pvp (ranks 1, 2, 3, etc.) on my team? This leads me to believe that the system is completely flawed, or it is just completely random…which imo would still be completely flawed and needs overhauling ASAP.

Solution:

Please make it a requirement that in order to participate in tpvp (solo queue OR team queue) you must have first reached “X” pvp (glory) rank. Yes, I realize rank does not equate to skill, but I would much rather have someone on my team that has a remote clue than someone who does not. I had someone on my team the other day that was rank 2 and said they had only played the map we were on twice. They shouldn’t be matched with me to begin with, but they also shouldn’t be queuing for tpvp either. They need to get a clue about their class by practicing in hotmatches first. While I understand hotmatches are not exactly the same (far from competitive pvp), it atleast gives someone an opportunity to shake a stick at an opponent and learn what their abilities do!

Make it so one has to reach rank 15 or 20 to join tpvp. Or at a minimum rank 10. Allowing players to roll a character and go straight into a tournament match with out a clue is just a bad idea all together. That person will be severely ridiculed and they will be bringing down the other players on their team.

Agree. Or at least do something viable. Currently, warrs are a joke. Its my style of play…but its weak weak weak. Its very sad because I WANT to play my warrior….but alas if I do, you are kind of the running joke. What are the devs going to do to remedy this issue?

Empowered should be a 5/15/25 vitality tree trait.

Can you elaborate on this a little? Just not clear on what you are recommending. Do you mean 5/15/25 % damage increase based on adrenaline level? If so, I think this would be a nice addition, though we still need to look more at the SURVIVABILITY of the warrior, and less at dmg output.

Enduring Pain on a 60 second cooldown like Elixir S OR Complete Invul (no damage and no condition damage) for those 4 seconds at the 90 second cooldown.

Longer range on shield bash/whirlwind

Additional things to stances. For example, 3-4 secs of protection with balanced stance.

But I do like your mobile strikes suggestion as well.

Totally agree. Engineer, Ele, Mesmer,….and just about every other profession gets some kind of invul, drop target, or something that is WAY better than Endure Pain. In some cases, they get multiple applications of it.

I think the devs justification regarding warrs survivability is that they have a little more health. But this doesn’t keep someone alive at all. Slightly larger health pool is burned through like butter.

Boosting damage is great and all, but that is not really the issue with the warrior. The issue is its survivability. Warriors are one of the only classes in game that cannot drop target. Aside from Endure Pain (if you choose it), we are pretty much sitting ducks. Definately needs some work. No one plays a warrior in top ranked teams. You would think the devs would see this and realize there is a problem.

Same utility just used in a different way. A properly spec’d and played warrior can provide the same team support an ele can. I do it all the time. In most cases I out play ele’s in both team fights and 1v1 fights (when those happen to occur).

If this was true, teams wouldn’t be bringing double ele and 0 warriors.

There are a lot of bad warriors.

You both have valid builds. I certainly wouldn’t say Shouts are worthless though. I destroy on my shout warrior. I run a consistent 3K attack power, heal myself and my allies for 2200 health per shout, provide an insane amount of condi removal not only for myself but also for my team, and am providing fury and might boons for my allies. Not to mention all of the other team oriented benefits from the minor traits in the Tactics line.

Its simply a matter of preference. One is more bursty, one is more team support via condi removal, boon distribution. Both are equally viable. Its simply what you prefer.

…and yes, the Soldiers Rune does provide AoE condition removal now for your allies within 600 range.

Uh, you want something you can use anywhere in the game? You already get two things: Dyes and Bags.

Larger bags are valuable no matter what level you are. Dyes can be sold on the trading post no matter what level you are. You can even grind out for rare dyes and large bags to send to your alts later. There, external rewards to grind for.

When paid tourneys come out, you can earn gems. So now you’re getting character rewards that are worth something regardless of level, gold, and gems.

Still not happy? GW2 may not be the game for you.

Here is the key…."When paid tourneys come out, " Nuff said. So yeah, my point entirely. Right now the rewards are redic.

We get bigger bags… new dyes… tons of new armor and weapon skins… titles… I don’t know what else you want that doesn’t include stat gear grinding. Maybe some cash shop gear I suppose but overall I don’t understand what you want as a reward that wouldn’t give someone in PvP a stat advantage over another player.

Uhm…perhaps something I can use on my character ANYWHERE in the game. The fact that I can only use it in sPvP is rediculous. If it is limited to skins only (no stats), dyes, bags, etc., then why not allow for you to take what you have worked hard for in sPvP and take it out into the rest of the world?? That I do not understand at all. If it is purely a “look” then it should cross over.

I’m all about having “fun”. But GW2 (last I checked) is in the MMORPG genre is it not? If I just wanted to burn through match after match after match of playing other opponents, I would go play many of the hundreds of FPS games out there. This is not an FPS. I do not want to play an FPS because FPS games you usually don’t “earn” anything as a reward for your character that you get to keep. Moreover, you usually don’t even have a “character” either; at least not one that is perpetual anyways.

I think I speak for 90% of the community when I say this…we like the “fun” factor. We do NOT like the lack of reward for it. There have been hundreds of ideas thrown to anet to consider. Please consider your clients here.

I would venture to say you do not speak for 90% of the community. There is a large part of the MMO community that has been waiting a long time for someone to listen to us about the lack of time grinding out gear. There are literally hundreds of MMOs that will give you what you want, this game is one of very few that gives people like me what I want, and I think that there are far more people looking for something different at this point than people looking for more of the same.

It’s nice to know I could stop playing for a few months and come back and not get whooped every match because I don’t have the gear. There’s no carrot at the end of the stick.

You missed my point entirely. I am NOT asking for a carrot on a stick. I’m asking for SOME kind of reward. New skins for my armor is currently it. Do you not agree that is pathetic in terms of reward for doing well?

I like the mechanics and game play, and I’m not asking for a “grind” for the carrot on the stick. What I am asking for however is some kind of reward for the time invested other than “fun”. Its a game. I will have fun playing any kind of game I enjoy. But part of the fun is the reward.
