The OP had me feeling sad but then the old & welcome spirit of friendliness from SF appeared & now I’m feeling better..
It may be a corrupt file in the game somewhere.
There is a switch you can add to the game shortcut that forces a file check & repair.
I can’t remember what it is but someone here should be able to tell you how to do it.
Crazy, post your system specs & your crash log.
You crash log is arenanet.log (my documents/guild wars 2) and you need to export it as a .txt then attach it using more posting & formatting options below.
Burntb, let us know how you go.
Well, it’s been a few days. I was forced into doing the upgrade from XP to 64bit Win7 because my hard-drive was corrupt after the last game crash. I lost all data (including account password) & had to get tech support to help me recover my account.
The good news is, with a fresh game install & running on 64bit Win7 I’m not getting the out of memory crashes I was getting when I was running on XP. My fps has improved by about a 3rd with much less lag during large wvw battles.
I can’t be certain the crashes were only related to XP’s limited ram because I have also got a fresh game install. So, those that can’t upgrade to 64bit might want to try a clean game install.
@Asmodal
Something else to consider with random shutdowns is your power supply.
A failing PSU is often the cause of such shutdowns. No shutdown process just a loss of power.

If not your ageing vid card it could be directx. The patch may be using more up to date directx than you have installed.
I’m guessing the patch is using directx 9 for cross platform compatibility.
Microsoft has a webinstaller that installs just the updated files missing.
I know it works with all windows as far as Win7 but you would need to check that it works with your Win8.
I will not provide a link for the webinstaller because I am not sure you can use it with Win8.
google is your friend
@ Kyllaa.
I will but it will be a few days. I have to clear some work stuff before I can do the Win7 install.
Yeah, same here. Crashes were very rare before the patch. I’m running a high end computer but still using WinXP for compatability with some old programes I use for work.
It looks to me & others have said WinXP can no longer supply enough memory.
I’m going to instal 64bit Win7 & see if that helps. Dunno what I can do about my work stuff but hopefully I can find something that works in Win7.
I think I remember what a queue is….. But here on ET we almost never see one.
I know, it’s because we are at the bottom of the ranks & many that make up the queue just want to ride the easy win gravy train. Lose a few times & meet the shrinking queue.
Simple answer is ET.
No wvw queue.
Always up against heavy odds, 5v20+AC is normal.
So, if you like a real challenge, join ET.
Aww, c’mon guys!
You all know AC’s are only ever used by the weaker side to bust those nasty over-populated zerg balls..
Btw, anyone know where I can get some of that Cool-Aid Devon drinks?
Reading back through this thread I see posts suggesting the AC buff is all about zerg busting. Unfortunately my experience has been the opposite.
Playing as I do on a low population server we now find stacked AC’s can hold us off, no matter how good or diverse our tactics are untill the other side can call in its zerg to hit us from behind.
Even killing the AC’s when possible is not the answer because they can be rebuilt fast enough in most cases to buy time for the zerg rescue.
The only way I could see the AC buff working as it appears to be intended would be for the buff to be tied to the outmaned buff.
I was a regular, played several hours a day on Eredon Terrace.
I loved fighting on the underdog side.
Constantly outmaned? Sure, but no problem!
ET had some dedicated players that loved a good fight. Saddly, I don’t see a lot of them of late.
Like a number of my gaming friends, I’m taking a break because stacked arrow carts just don’t make a fun game.
Thanks Anet, it was fun till recently but now I see a new game on the horizon..
5 minute timer for rams? No thanks!!
I’m sure many can think of situations where a 5 minute ram despawn timer would be just plain painful..
Same feelings about refreshed siege, if we take the time to refresh it, it should not despawn.

I never donate to commanders. I have my own private stash of siege that I can use at my whim.
Too many times I’ve seen people donate to even “real” commanders. Then the next day it’s ‘Cya guys. Going to another server!’ and taking the siege with them.
Yeah, I understand what you are saying but one does get to know those that are in for the long haul.
I also carry a personal stash of siege & do upgrades but I also see the need to help those commanders that are spending their own hard earned gold upgrading keeps, towers & camps each & every day.
I have donated towards a commander tag but more to the point, I do & we all should donate towards the upkeep of the good commanders that spend a fortune on siege & upgrades.
On a side note, ET recently lost a great tactical commander due to the trolling of a few.
Those few trolls have hurt ET! It’s time to wake up & support the commanders we have left!
I can live with downed as it is but a spiked/dead player should not be able to be rezzed while the rezzer is in combat.
It’s not all bad! Playing on ET, I kinda miss Kain.
There may well be a lot of them but so many are such easy kills they did wonders for my kill count.
