Well you’ve got a few options.
1. Not worry about it and just skip that one.
2. Just do it and get it done. You can find videos on how to get to it. It actually doesn’t take that long. Equip your falling trait and falling armor for extra measures
3. Wait for a Mesmer. They do portals up there quite a bit.
Mr. Simple,
I am using my mesmer but some of the falls are instant death, especially once one gets past the split to the goggles. I would not be so irked if they would not disable the gliding so I can glide down slowly and not die and have to start from outside again. Thanks for the advice anyhow. Just going to plug away at it a few more times while calling ANET a lot of bad things while pushing needles in voodoo dolls of their game developers.

So I am in Gendarren Fields for the diving goggles that are apparently well above a somewhat jumping puzzle in Broadhollow Bluffs. I do not care for jumping puzzles much but so be it, I figured. Using my mesmer helped a little in some areas too and got the chest but the goggles are so much higher as an addition to the crazy jumps and whatnot already done. On top of that, if I am lucky to make it to the first platform after the rocks, I launch from there only to get insta-launched from the second to my death! This happened twice in a row so far! What gives with someone wanting to complete the diving achievement having to do a super jumping puzzle just to freaking get there? At worst the goggles and jump point should have been with the chest but I really do not see the point of a huge jumping puzzle being any part of the diving achievement. It is the only one left for me and it is just stupid, in my opinion, to force such a jumping puzzle on someone trying to accomplish something else that is totally unrelated. The puzzle takes long enough just to get to the split. To be able to fall to one’s death so easily is also stupid.
I have been trying to complete the Defeat Mordremoth story and it is rather frustrating when that stupid Modremoth actually breaks up the rock area where the rifts are opened. The rifts are now opened out in the abyss with no way to reach it and that makes it impossible to do anything except get beaten to death and try again. He does it about every other time. I watched it three times at least but sometimes I was facing the other way so I only heard it. I reported the bug rather angrily with a screenshot of the rift out in nothingness. Also, the stupid updrafts were hardly working. I launched on one, for example, and no glider. I simply was raised about three times my normal jumping ability and down I went. I only managed to get the updraft successful one phase. Every other time it bugged out and I never left the ground. Three repair canisters and a lot of time and frustration for a story that never was truly tested properly. if it was properly tested, there would be a lot less complaints. I can put up with a few little bugs here and there but this is crazier than anything I remember back when I played WoW and their patches were pretty buggy!
Been spending much of my playing time in the SW and have not seen anyone link a portal in quite a few days. Most have been linking their drops in excitement when they did drop so it is probably safe to assume it is over.
This idea does not even make my lowest portion of things I would like in an MMO. I do not mean to belittle the thought but I am looking more for good content relative to beating up bad guys, generally speaking. A stylish home just isn’t part of this.
Well, since we are getting on the “complain, whine and ask for everything” band wagon, if I only had a place of storage for hoarding large volumes of a single item. Like a 2000 per slot bank tab with about 30 tabs. Of course, I could quit being cheap and just get a new bank tab too.
I am planning on buying directly from ANET. I do not see a point of a middle-man like Amazon, for example, being needed. And, I want more buttons to mash on.
I kind of liked the way the next beta invites were given by way of a random portal this time. Although there are too many complainers no matter how closed beta invites come, at least this way no one can say they got skipped over and they had seniority or something. I was fortunate on one of the final days to get a portal drop but would not have minded if I did not get one either. As much as I would like to play new content, it is still beta but I will be happy to have a look at what they want to show us this time. For those that did not get one all I can say is when you do get to play the HOT beta, it will likely have more content than this one as more stuff content will be ready. Try to keep it positive guys. I like the game and those I randomly group with in-game. Everyone is so friendly that it is strange seeing so many comments with the “all about me” theme. I will try to take some screen shots for everyone. Hoping to try some new mesmer power out on new bad guys.
I would like a flying mount. Let the mount have the wings. Not likely to see that because it would make some jumping puzzles a little easier.
I do not plan on standing in line and coming home to install the expansion, if I can avoid it. I prefer to download it directly and I am sure many others would like to as well. My question is, would we be able to pre-download much of the content with only a few key files on release day? I mean, imagine all of us hitting the download servers at once to download the entire expansion. So if we can prepay and download most of the expansion, go-live time would likely go smoother from ANETs end. We can just crash the game servers when we all go in at once, lol.
I would like more pet versatility. Like our skills and such, I would like the same (to a lesser extent) for the pets so I can choose to make one pet do more damage or be thicker skinned. I want more buttons to mash!
Since some are putting in their requests for more of this and that, how about adding mounts sometime soon? One thing I hate is trying to simply farm some weeds, ore or trees and always having to run from one to the next and fight constantly with mobs just to pick one flower. Or maybe I get killed in a group event and have to WP then run back. A mount would help me get back into the action faster. Running all the time reminds me of sitting in rush hour traffic. It take a while to go so little distance.
wow, did everything in a whole hour in a beta….
worse xpac evah
If I understand correctly, this was mainly a stress test. It’s kind of hard to understand your opinion of this expansion when you have not seen much but I guess you will not be buying this when it comes out.
I use a mesmer a lot and one problem with conditions (and this has been mentioned in brief) is condition damage is small at first unlike like that of a dagger strike. Conditions take time to ramp up to be of any meaningful use but once the stacks build up, the damage is good. Best of luck trying to find a way to balance conditions and their damage with that of straight damage. While the extra stacks would help with longer fights, it does almost nothing for regular mobs. That is where conditions suffer a lot. And that is why the mesmer has zerker gear. I also noticed when the mesmer uses the staff, the Winds of Chaos is slow to launch. While with a group, some mobs are dead before I would get one orb to them, even at closer range. That makes it hard to put out one’s share of the damage and also denies a chance for loot so for the mesmer, it makes the staff kind of weak most of the time which weakens conditions even more for them. This is too bad since the mesmer with a staff can do some nice things for a group but if my loot opportunities are less because the auto-nuke is slow, I lose. Gotta stay on the greatsword.
Took way too many of the skills and mastery but know people who weren’t in the beta would want to see them.

Very nice, thank you. I am looking forward to giving it a go sometime soon.
Congratulations on those going to do the stress test for the first beta of HOT. Just guessing, I imagine those picked for this first round were those normally playing about the times specified regularly and narrowed from that list. Well, at least that is how I would begin to create such a list. Hope you all don’t find too many bugs. I did a beta for WoW once. It was fun getting a look at new content early. Not keeping any progress was a bummer though. Oh and please be sure to share some info not mentioned in the forums yet. I am curious what we are going to be able to do, thanks.
One thing I see constantly in this thread, a theme that is of considerable concern: “big boys”, “non-casuals”, “real skill” and other such attitudes from the pro-raiding group. This is the exact kind of stigma that the raiding community is well known for and why players of this NON-RAIDING GAME are so against such content. It’s not a matter of having the content optional or not, having it just because, and all the reasons in the world. No, it’s a matter of the type of community disdain that brings with the “I raided X and have these shinny ruby slippers so I’m better than you” attitude. Also it is a matter of locking away content from a large portion of the non-raiding PvE community. And as even Blizzard has admitted, only a fraction of their community raids, so developing for that fraction of a community that is even a lesser fraction here in GW2 would be a waste of development time and resources for A.Net.
The only difference I see in implementing raids:
Better controlled environment for the devs and players
No trolls
No moochers
No AFK’s
One loading screenand what Bwembo.8531 said, kinda. I don’t believe it was for the “noobs”. Trinity gave a sense of comradery and reputation, a concept that GW2 seriously lacks. That’s not to say GW2 needs a hard trinity either, but just a reflection of my personal experience and friends that I have played with.
Had to give you a +1 for your comment. My “noob” remark was for the crybabies whining and complaining that Anet this and other MMOs that. I just believe if a dungeon and fractal can work with the current methods of no trinity, a raid can easily follow along those lines as well. Either way, it is the whole group working together making a raid a success.
It’s quite impressive how many performance related topics have been opened since the announcement of HoT with absolutely 0 responses or any kind of info/news from the devs. I knew their PR is nonexistent at best but even so….impressive.
If you look at the history of GW thy have always made a product that could run on both high and not so high end machines. i don’t think there will be any changes made to the code to optimize it for beefier machines.
I don’t have a problem with this. I actually enjoyed the fact I could play GW1 on just about any computer I could download it on cause of how minimal the requirements were.
The problem is that you shouldn’t get to the opposite stage where the more beefier your computer the more issues you have with the game. I consistently client crash due to going over maximum memory at huge events. Either limit the client, or make the client able to handle what you’re letting it handle.
My old PC ran GW2 fine with only 4GB of RAM and a 1GB graphics card. That was my old WoW machine. It recently died but if the machine can’t hang, must be time to invest in a newer gaming machine. And I suggest avoiding any off-the-shelf or any that have embedded software that holds up resources. Things running in the background are big lag causers and those preloaded ones are bad for that. Build your own with decent specs and it should not cost too much. With mine, I did not go high-end on any part but did not short the system’s ability to get through some faster graphics either. Best of luck.
I would like to see some things to craft and trade like agony infusion slots. Would like to at least be able to vendor some account bound items like bloodstone and dragonite ore, for example. What was that? A mount? oh yeah, running around all these up and down terrains and hillsides gets old. It’s like driving my car. I don’t want to spend large portions of my life in traffic nor do I want much of my GW2 time spend running or limping when a mob tags me. How about being able to craft a personal WP? Like, I can drop it somewhere in a zone where I am currently at so I can revisit that spot without the trek on foot. Well, can’t wait to pre-order whatever you do come out with for an xpac. For now it is just farm and hoard, farm and hoard.
Everquest?
Rift?
Show me a raid dungeon that didn’t have trinity please.[/quote]
Because a raid in other games have a certain makeup, it does not mean that is the only way it can be done. The same trinity is needed for for just plain dungeons. As I recall, it is one tank, one healer and three dps. GW2 proved with their dungeons and fractals that the trinity is not needed to have such content. Raids, as large scale as they can be, can be created as well. Just because the other kids on the block do it, does not make it the only way or the better way. In my opinion, they all do it because one created the idea and the others copied it because it was easier than being creative. It also gave noobs a comfort level of knowing they have a tank or healer to get them out of trouble. No sir, the trinity is not needed. It is just one way.
I see a few old WoW types of players thinking raids must have the basic roles of healer, tank and dps. That is not what makes a raid. That is how it was designed for the subscription based game that put out a Chinese expansion, complete with Chinese food, endless pandas, Chinese architecture and the crappy “White tiger watch over you” line.
A raid consists of far more than “this is your only role noob” and requires a coordinated effort by larger groups. Which of the two was the noob fails? Tank can’t keep aggro or stepping into the purple circle too much? The raid would not only fit into Anet’s way of play-style but it would flourish. I mean, the possible combinations the professions bring to this game allow for one to bring what they have to the group. Some offer group protection or heals, to a point, while others add buffs and better cc for the group. If GW2 was simple stack and burn the boss, as a few mentioned, then completing a fractal with a group of mesmers should be easy, right? Might be good to take a guardian perhaps? Anet did for this game where Blizzard failed in WoW. There are no loot issues, for one, but there are many more I will not go into. My point is, if Anet wanted to dedicate some time and server space to raids for the big boys, it could be done easily, as long as they have a lot of coffee or tea. The dungeons and fractals alone already prove the trinity is not required.
I am not by far the most knowledgeable mmo player here, but 6 years of WoW, including doing all the raids before I left, leaving 10 maxed toons there while I have 6 maxed here and almost two years with GW2 gives me at least enough xp to tell a few of you to go get a diaper change and man up a little. You whine worse than my four-year old and do not have a clue of gaming architecture, what makes a raid or how old it is to read the same complaints that have little value for the game. When I left WoW and came here it was like a breath of fresh air and it still is, so far.
Let the slice ’n dice of my comments and opinions commence…
Hello,
Any chance of us getting a free character slot added with this expansion? It did not take me long to max out the default limit on toons. I still have to make a guardian yet and now a new one is coming. Or, maybe adding a feature in the TP for selling back unwanted goods at half price for gems would work instead. I have a pile of transmutation thingies that will never get used but continue to pile up because I hoard stuff. All the free stuff that is worthless could be sold back to the TP and I can obtain things I could use then. Just create a special type of gem for this so it cannot be used to buy gold or something.
Either way, I am excited for this. I am curious to see how my mesmer can perform. It’s not easy being squishy but they sure are fun.
I opted for ascended. Although stat-switching on the fly would be nice, I can make several types of ascended weapons to swap out before I can make one legendary.
I am in agreement that the scaling can be annoying, at times, and a means of toggling that on or off should be an option. My reason for that is when things like the instances are making me run back to lower level places, I do not want to fight my way through all the creatures. It takes too long to deal with that and takes away from my playtime to progress. The easy alternative is using the waypoints, of course, but at level 20 one does not have an abundance of copper to do that. I also like to run so I can gather some resources for my crafting skills. So to mine one node of copper ore takes me quite a few minutes because I have to kill my way to it. I believe, however, if grouped to help a lower level player, the higher level should be scaled back so they are actually helping.
