So I just tried that “Kill 3 Legendary Clockworks” quest. It is nothing but a DPS test. Can we please stop having quests like these?

These quests are saying:
If you are not using berserker gear, go home.

That’s one thing that GW1 did very well.

Not one person defeated the Titans. A group of Chosens did.
Not one person defeated Shiro. A group of Closer to the Stars did.
etc

Prove that GW2 is Vertical Progression.

In GW1 it takes me 2 minutes to switch my build.
In GW2 it takes me 3 months to switch my build (from one ascended gear to another set).

And this is just one character. We can also talk about alt-characters. They all need one ascended set. And then if we want to try something else and switch its build… >_>

Surely most people sees a huge problem with this design.

[Proposal] Increase # of Skills.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

CHIPS.6018

Proposal Overview

Currently there are 5 skills per weapon set and 20 utilities skills. I believe this needs to eventually be increased to 15 skills to pick from per weapon set, and 60 utilities skills to pick from. This includes 3 different “auto attack” skill 1’s for the players to choose from, in each weapon set.

Goal of Proposal

My objective is to promote build diversity, build designing and build testing, which was a huge part of “game play” for me and many others in GW1.

Proposal Functionality

I know that having too many skills (like GW1) makes the game hard to balance. That’s why GW2 reduced the amount of skills available. But GW2 went to complete opposite way and have way too few skills to choose from. I think this makes it worst.

Back in GW1 I used to spent hours designing and testing builds to see what works and what doesn’t. This is one aspect of GW that I really miss.

What I see in PvE and WvW is people running the same few builds that works. This gets boring and dull fairly quickly.

I believe the community do enjoy the build diversity. Everyone’s character should be different from each other. And builds doesn’t necessary need to be the most efficient. Some builds are designed purely for laughs, as shown here. ^^

Associated Risks

At the same time having too many skills does get chaotic and makes the game hard to balance. So there needs to be a balance.

I believe my proposal of “5 skills to pick from per weapon set, and 60 utilities skills to pick from” is a good balance point. It gives enough skills to promote build diversity, and the same time not too many that it distort the balance.

Scarlet, Slayer of Lores.

in Lore

Anyone else feels that Scarlet is not only a bad villain, but her presence is killing all the lore?

Every time a new contend is announced, the players are not discussing how excited they are about it. They are worried about it being linked to Scarlet somehow because they don’t want it to be.

I made a thread earlier about why I don’t like the Molten Alliance made by Scarlet. Not everyone agree with me. But I am sure many do. It doesn’t make any sense, even after reading Konig’s explanations. The story just feels very forced.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/lore/Our-Pale-Tree-never-met-Scarlet/

If the Kraits allied themselves with Nightmare Court because of Scarlet, all the lores about Kraits are gone. And more lore will be destroyed if we let Scarlet continue.

Who will be next? Why not have the Pact (yes, that’s us) ally with Scarlet? Maybe we somehow agree to giving up Queen Jennah to Scarlet as a sacrifice or playmate, because Scarlet have a way to kill all elder dragons. Logan of course disagrees, but we end up killing him and all the rest of Destiny’s Edge.

Why not? Anything is possible with Scarlet.

We should call Scarlet not by her name, but “Lore Slayer” from now on. Surely Anet will take notice and not use Scarlet anymore in future contents.

If the Kraits allied with the Nightmare Court because of Scarlet, remember the Lore Slayer. Call her by “Lore Slayer” or “Slayer of Lores” from now on.

Say “Signed” if you agree.

GW2 AI is worst than GW1 AI.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

CHIPS.6018

To me, the biggest problem with fights in GW2 is a lack of relevance to the player’s health and damage. And to that end, the biggest problem with GW2 is that the mob AI is a lot worst than the GW1 AI. The horrible AI in GW2 was simply covered up by mob’s overwhelming health and damage.

Back in GW1, the mobs would at least try to use skills that are available to the players. Only a few mobs have monster only skills. And the monster’s damage and health are only slightly higher than the players for the most part. Being this relevant, the monster AI had to be decent in order to provide the player a challenge. GW1 mobs would at least try to kite from you when they are hurt, for example.

In GW2, it is all about monster only skills and giving monsters unfair advantage.

The monster is too dumb to bring stability? No problem, we give them 60 stacks of Defiant.

The monster is too dumb to kite and too dumb to heal? No problem we give them 10 times the health of a regular player.

The monster is too dumb to snare, bring speed buffs and hit the player? No problem we give them massive damage, sometimes one hit kill.

I am sure most of you agree that the average mob in GW2 have zombie level of intelligence.

What makes an mob intelligent? It honestly doesn’t have to be that complicated. I will speak for the necro mob AI, since necro is my more familiar profession.

-Using Plague #2 to blind the players, while the rest of the mob group attack the players.
-Dagger necro with Spectral Grasp, Spectral Walk, Signet of Spite and Flesh Golem (charge) to keep the humans close by.
-Corrosive Poison Cloud, Epidemic and staff for AoE.
-Randomly cast Flesh Wurm, and use it to escape randomly.
-Use Death Shroud.

Necro mob should use necro skills. For example I don’t think I have seen any necro mob using Death Shroud, the biggest thing for the necromancer.

Another thing is “mob unit”. Back in GW1 the mobs would at least try to fight as a team. They would heal each other. They would buff each other. The would resurrect each other. etc. In GW2 there are mobs that are in a group. But they don’t fight as a unit at all. They just each do their own thing during the fight.

Conclusion:
-mob AI needs major improvement. They need to starting acting more human like. For example Anet should observe how a human players plays a necro, and then make the necro AI accordingly.
-mobs need to be relevant to the players, just like GW1. That means using skills that a player can use, having similar health and damage. Mob of a profession need to start using skills from that profession, not some monster only skills.
-Mob units need to fight as a team, just like GW1.
