My PUG story...

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

I didn’t read most of the other comments but I would like to put my opinion on this.

After reading your opening post, I remain neutral and I am not taking any sides. I am not trying to victim blame. However from your OP, it seems a little one-sided. What could you have said to the party that leads to kick? Honestly speaking, the number of bad experiences I had with PUG can be counted with one hand. I have played for over 1 year and I run dungeons and fractals PUG almost everyday after I reach 80 on my thief.

When I first started this game, I was very bad at my thief. I keep getting killed or carried by my party. Everytime when I join a PUG I don’t join the party that says “zerk. exp” or anything similar. This is not because I think it is elitism but I feel I am a liability to the party. As I get better I try to join zerk party. Some went well. Some wasn’t so good. I can remember I only got kicked 4 or 5 times over my 1.5 years of playing and that was because I was bad.

But the surprising thing was I only got kick so little times even though I was kitten bad. However, there was some parties who kick good players out of the party instead of me, the bad player. Why? They were very bossy or rude.

As I get better, I am not worried of joining zerker party anymore. I don’t get kick anymore because I am contributing to the party. Sometimes I make my own LFG zerk party asking for certain level of AR respective to the fractal tier. Most of the time it went smoothly. But I don’t kick people. I don’t even second any kick. I only do so if it the member was uncooperative or rude to the party. I don’t like playing with rude players. Often times the PUG I am with kick those who are bossy or rude even if they are skilled. Not the srubbish players.

I am a very chatty person so I always greet my party and chat with them. “Hiya all!” “How is everyone doing?”. During the runs I would strike up random conversation. "You guys did the silverwaste?’ “Wow the new carapace armour looks great!” Random. I meet more good and skilled players than bad. I also met a lot of rude arrogant but skilled players but I don’t play with them.

I am just sharing my experience. My opinion is that most PUG be it whether you are the instance owner or the one joining the group, no one likes being bossed around. From your screenshot, I would say most of the insult towards you is uncalled for. But have you considered maybe you may have sounded too bossy/arrogant for most players? Even many skilled players who I know can solo some dungeons don’t like playing with rude players regardless of their skills. I am not judging you of course, but I only see your side of the story. Personally speaking, after playing with so many PUG, and players from my friendlist, we don’t have it so much bad experience than you. The number of bad experience I’ve had can be counted with one hand.

Just my 2 cent. Hope all things goes smoothly for you soon.

I think I can sum up what GW2 has become recently — it’s a game for newer players. It has become a clearing house for older veterans who are very familiar with the content and no longer have an interest in it. There’s nothing to keep the veterans hanging around, as Casmurro said.

It seems GW2 has become something similar to an airport transit lounge. New people come in, veterans leave.

We don’t really have any real data of veterans leaving. I don’t consider myself a veteran because I am not skilled enough yet, but I have played Guild wars for 1 year + now, and I don’t feel bored at all. It is the only MMO that continue to make me feel like playing. I feel that many who complains about the lack of content, feel bored and leave, are those who are burn out with farming the same thing over and over again because it gives the best Gold/hr. A lot of them aren’t really enjoying the content.

I played many MMO since young. Compare GW2 with other MMO, this game is the best. – No cash shop nonsense. I can play competitively without a single cent spent for premium consumables/upgrades. A cash user doesn’t necessarily means he/she can contribute to a dungeon run.
- No grind. I don’t have to see or measure how much time will I get to lvl XX. If I feel like dungeon I go dungeon. If I feel like fractal I go fractals. I don’t need to worry about my % to next level and which map is the best EXP/HR.
- No more standing in 1 spot and press 284638959411111 with 12×10 skill bars. Honestly, it requires no effort. I know people will argue this with champ trains/WvW/World bosses. But try standing in one spot spamming skills in dungeons and fractals. Other than the occasion stacking, most content require actual skills and coordination with party members (e.g Thaumanova Fractals, Dregde Fractals…etc)

Of course, harsh critique and feedback to the developers may help improve the current state of the game but there just so many negativity thrown at the game.

I quit MMO for 5 years. Mainly because of the above reasons. GW2 changed my mind about MMO. Compare to any past trending MMO, (WoW, Rift, Archage, Perfect World…etc) this game offers the best entertainment value.

I like what this person posted sum it up nicely.

It’s easy to pick holes in any game, but this is still the best option out there…for me anyway.

Just my 2 cent.

Impressions From A Returning Player

I have a feeling they made leveling from 1 to 30 slower because of the Black Lion Key farming. I could be wrong. I don’t see how it doesn’t feel any sense of progression. I levelled 2 character last year (before patch) and just start a new mesmer this year (after patch). Honestly speaking, even though it seems a little slower from 1-30 now it really isn’t as bad as you make it sound. Have you tried map completing all the cities and beginning stage maps?

Traits unlock is interesting to me because you need to do something in order to unlock a certain passive ability. It is no longer about getting skill points and inputing the points. It is to actually go out and explore and unlock. Anet also give some players the choice to obtain the skill without doing the quest at a price, which I feel is reasonable. It gives a sense of achievement.

One thing Anet can improve on is guide new players into other races map during level 1-30. This can encourage exploration.

Just my 2cent.

Should GW2 Implement Gear & skill Grind

You got many other mmorpg with gear grind. Please go play them. I quit playing MMO because it’s not fun anymore. Until Guild Wars 2 came out.

The only good MMO I know without ridiculous gear grind and/or ridiculous cash shop, without ever feeling bored, is Guild Wars 2. Let those who want grind play other MMO. You got WoW. They had an expansion pack. Go play it. Let us who enjoy playing dress up enjoy Guild Wars.

kthxbye

Thank you for the first statement; playing thieves and warriors are a disgrace, specially thieves.

Disclaimer: I will not play a Thief because I want to retain my dignity.

Sun Tzu Art Of War
(1) He who knows when he can fight and when he cannot will be victorious.

(2) If your enemy is secure at all points, be prepared for him. If he is in superior strength, evade him. If your opponent is temperamental, seek to irritate him. Pretend to be weak, that he may grow arrogant. If he is taking his ease, give him no rest. If his forces are united, separate them. If sovereign and subject are in accord, put division between them. Attack him where he is unprepared, appear where you are not expected.

Playing a thief is not disgraceful. If it is in sPvP, I can understand. It is like a duel.
This is World V.S World. It is a war between server to capture points.

A lot of time, as a thief, My main job will try scout for enemy zerg and report to commander when I see them. My secondary job includes keeping certain important areas contested. For example, North Camp or Garrison in Borderlands: If there is a good enough size of enemy zerg trying to attack north camp/garrison and my team’s zerg is somewhere hitting bay or whatever, my job is to report to commander, and then try to keep the area contested so my team can have enough time to defend it. The point is to delay enemy from capturing points.

I am still pretty new to the game and I am pretty sure other classes or profession can do a better job than me as a thief, but the statement that “Playing thief is disgraceful” is not a fair statement for WvW.
