DPS Meditation Build (Critiques Requested)

I did the same trait setup (well almost the same) as the OP did. I used to play a semi condi/heal support build I made myself (which I must say didn’t go too well ><), but I yearned for some decent DPS. I had a few doubts about lowering my toughness at first, but its not so bad around 2.6k armor. I PvE and WvW mostly and this build feels pretty decent.

but I’m still feeling my build may require further tweaking.

I’m on the same page with Stemare, the Sword/Focus combo is great and all but its also matter of taste I guess.

I just really like Torch for its Hadouken like skill 4. Its skill 5 is good in its own way, not perfect but its to my preference, plus breathing fire to cure Burning on people is just awesome :P

Might swap out Retributive Armor for Focused Mind if the update gives it a nice long duration of much appreciated fury

Is this build any good ? Any adjustments I should make ?

Thoughts ? It’ll be much appreciated :o

Well, thanks for the tip. Maybe I’ll wait around for more responses, ya know, check everything out before deciding.

I did go AH before, went more of a tanky business last time. But felt lackluster of damage at the time.Just wanted to get a little damage in and try something without AH just for the sake of trying something different I guess. Maybe I changed it a bit too far? I wasn’t exactly going for high crit in the first place, I dunno, from my experience both dungeons and WvW. It works fine for me. Haven’t played anything outside of my guardian so I don’t really know how much big damage could be considered big. Maybe a few more test runs would seal the deal. Meh, opinions are opinions. So what do you suggest ? As the title suggests I would like to build this build better.

This is more of a personal build, wanted to make one myself without following other builds and was made to suit my playstyle of
(Survivability>Dealing Damage Support>Support) also lazy to change builds between WvW and PvE dungeons :P

Its still in its process of getting there and I feel it can improve but beyond that I like it.
Anyway heres my build, oh and this is my first build related post, so bear with me if I miss anything out or something like that

15/0/25/30/0

Zeal – trait VI (Spirit Weapon Mastery)
Valor- trait VI (Retributive Armor) and VIII (Glacial Heart)
Honor- trait III (Writ of Exaltation), X (Writ of Merciful) and XI (Pure of Voice)

Gear:
-Weapons that I often mainly use in some to all situations:
Greatsword – P/T/V- Superior Sigil of Bloodlust
Hammer – P/T/V – Superior Sigil of Restoration
-Weapons I switch the greatsword with when against one or a few number of enemies:
Sword – P/T/V Superior Sigil of Accuracy
Shield – P/T/V Superior Sigil of Hydromancy

-Armor, the only set I got ._. :
Mix set of P/T/V (Chest,Legs,Head) and Knights (Shoulders,Gauntlets,Boots) with Superior Rune of the Soldier

-Trinkets:
Guild Defender Backpack of the Berserker
Beryl Orichalcum Earring of the Valkyrie
Beryl Orichalcum Ring of the Valkyrie
Emerald Orichalcum Earring of the Berserker
Ruby Orichalcum Amulet of the Berserker
Nightmare Coil (P/T/V) with Exquisite Ruby Jewel

-Skill slots:

Shelter – for its tanky blocks and decent enough heal

Bane Signet – for its knockdown mainly and its pretty sweeet power

‘Hold The Line!’ – for its protection and regen, and Pure of Voice and Soldier Rune condition removal

Spirit Sword – to help get some heat off of me and have some DPS going, plus I love this thing, even if it does suck sometimes I just like playing it.

Renewed Focus – for its invulnerability to get out of sticky situations and recharges virtues, I don’t usually use virtues, only use Virtue of Resolve and Virtue of Courage when the situation demands it i.e low hp and shelter’s on recharge.

And I know symbols, spirit weapon, and shouts, a lot to go for, but like I said, its suits me. I mean by (Survivability> Dealing Damage Support>Support) is that I’m getting hit but not hard enough to easily kill me in one burst or so and returning some decent enough hits back, and in return help my teammates out i.e boons, reviving, damage support.

And I don’t know what the Guardian Community thinks of this whether its considered to be too glass cannon or too bunker, in my experience its been working pretty well, been able to hit hard and tank a bit at the same time, but I would like to know if I could further improve this build without making it too glass cannon-ish and not too tanky nuclear bunker-ish, but towards being in between or close to in between the fine line of both. I mostly WvW, and so to speak born and raised in Tier 8, so being in a group is almost a must for me. Don’t usually zerg so much.

Here’s my stats, oh I got around 21k hp just if you guys wanted to know.

I’ve never touched PvP (yet) besides WvW (thats if you don’t count WvW as PvP). And that does make a lot of sense. Thanks Guanglai

I did know it required 6 runes to get all the stats, but like I said, I didn’t know why the rune had all the stats highlighted and I ended up making a wrong assumption of why it did that. Entirely my mistake.

So yea, that burned 3g and 40s rather quickly.

But this rises another question, if it says 7/6 runes (or higher than 7/6), but have 6/6 runes on my gear, would that affect anything like what stat I get from the rune, or would it just be a display bug like what Trollhammer said ?

I’ve been playing for a month or so, and I’m still learning the ropes. I’m also rather new to the forums.

While on my guardian, I was checking the Trading Post for some runes, (I only recently found out I could do that) and the Superior Rune of The Guardian caught my attention. This was because all the stats the rune had were all highlighted in blue, while the stats of other runes are all colourless.

So I changed my character to my warrior and checked the Trading Post for the same rune, but it was all colourless this time, I then proceeded to check the Superior Rune of the Warrior and saw that all the stats on that rune was highlighted blue.

I assumed that the runes were highlighted as such due to my profession. (Rune of the Warrior gets the all stats highlighted if I’m a warrior, and Rune of the Guardian gets all the stats highlighted if I’m a guardian)

Well, I decided to experiment and bought the Superior Rune of The Guardian on the Trading Post (for my guardian) and placed the rune on my armor because I thought since the stats were highlighted blue, I would get all the stats on em with just one rune. But, now it shows that I got 7/6 Superior Rune of the Guardian even though I only got one Superior Rune of The Guardian on my gear and I’m not sure if I got all the stats from it.

I forgot to compare my stats before and after I put the rune on, my bad >_<

I want to know, what does this mean ?
