Overview of mesmer bugs (?) after patch

Ok while doing AC I found that the cast range for disenchanter is definitely not 900 as the tooltip states. Around 600 maybe. Most of the time my phantasms will read (out of range) even if I am within the specified range.

I tested it and it’s more like 300-450. Illusionary Leap is 600 range, and I couldn’t summon the Disenchanter from the same range.

I can’t see them ever completely removing it. The combat in this game is intended to be skill-based, not just hitting your number keys and hoping for the best. It’s about strategically using your skills when appropriate and taking into consideration things like range and positioning. There should be some downside to using a skill incorrectly.

That said, I do wish it wouldn’t go into full recharge, especially when you have skills that tend to bug out if you are on a slope or have random objects in your way. It’s especially punishing to Mesmers since most of our damage output relies on our illusions, and our autoattacks tend to be weaker compared to other classes.

Either that, or I have played other MMOs that will display the range of your target, which would be fairly useful since saying something has a range of “600” is really arbitrary. Some other MMOs have also made is so your skills will be tinted red if your target is out of range.

Phantsmal Disenchanter Range Bugged

Seems Phantasmal Disenchanter will currently not summon at the range it is supposed to (900). My best estimate is that the range is now either a half or third of that. It’s definitely less than 600, because I couldn’t use Illusionary Leap and the Disenchanter from the same range.

The tooltip remains the same, so it’s obviously a bug. I already bugged it in game, but figured I’d give a heads up here.

Keys for Black Lion Chests

To be honest i get the feeling, that they ninja nerfed everything with the latest patch again. Before the patch i had way more rare drops than after the Patch.

I was commenting to a friend the other day that it seems like I get far less dye than I used to. It used to be I’d easily get anywhere from 1 to 4 dye drops during a few hours of play. Now I’m getting 1 maybe every other session, and sometimes not even then.

I personally would rather buy the salvage kits or level 80 transmutation stones directly, rather than gamble with the chests. Gambling with the RNG is too much like dice, and dice and I don’t get along (DnD game, rolled 9 1’s on a d20 in a row, GM banned me from rolling my own dice for the rest of the campaign).

Yeah, I’d be more interested in buying keys to open chests, but there is just too much stuff that comes out of them that I really don’t care about. If there’s anything I’d really like to get from a chest, I’m much better off just spending the gems to get it rather than getting a key and rolling a roulette wheel and ending up with junk.

Emotes and Jumping Puzzles

Seems like they decided not to invest much time into making emotes. I get the feeling it’s just not ANet’s kind of thing.

This is a list of emotes from GW1. Also, note that every class/gender combination had their own, distinct dance animation.

I’m thinking it’s more a matter of the fact that emotes weren’t much of a priority during prerelease (for obvious reasons). If I recall, the dance emote wasn’t even in the game until just a few days prior to release.

I think it could be a huge improvement, if they just added 2-3 random variables to every event. Just mix it up in different ways, so that players would never know exactly what was coming.

I’m sort of hoping that’s what the Live Team is going to focus on for the short-term. While I wouldn’t turn down more Dynamic Events, I think it’d be much better served to make the existing ones more dynamic. There was all this talk prior to release about going through the same zone multiple times and seeing different things every time you go there. I won’t deny that that isn’t necessarily the case, but it is definitely something that could be expanded upon.

I want to be able to do events and not know the outcome beforehand.

You guys are too frail. The mesmer is one of the strongest professions for pvp at the moment, and more nerfs will come. Phantasms cooldowns were too short, they were too spammable, and the consequences for killing phantasms were questionable.

Changing one build from overpowered to reasonably strong is not going to destroy that build, unless mesmers still have other overpowered builds, which might be the case.

But the unfortunate thing is any changes they make in PvP affects PvE as well.

Mesmer is sort of the odd duck in that the class seems like it was built more with PvP in mind than PvE. Certain things that are very viable in PvP to the point where Mesmer is really powerful are sort of lackluster when taken into the PvE environment. Shatters, for example, are a good example. Since stuff in PvE generally doesn’t live as long (DEs, especially), it’s not as easy for us to work to our full potential.

There is this really delicate balance between how Mesmer works in PvP and PvE. I think it’s something that they’re going to need to address at some point, because they’re either going to swing things too far in one direction where the Mesmer is really underpowered in PvE to keep him balanced in PvP or they’ll swing things in the other direction where he’ll be really overpowered in PvP to keep him balanced in PvE. I don’t think just finagling our numbers is ever going to bring PvP and PvE in line.

Some of the costume designers should understand that male casters often want to retain looking manly while retaining the themes of magic and mystery that that they are incorporating – ballroom gowns won’t cut it for a lot of us fellas.

Compared to some other MMOs I’ve played casters in, I’m just thankful they didn’t go the route of sticking us only in robes.

Though, I hope at some point they add some sets of armor in that are class specific and made to reflect the idea of the class. A mesmer seems to lend itself more to a ritzier and, perhaps, flashier set of armor than the other cloth classes.

Its hard not to when the game spoonfeeds you XP every turn you take… I really wish leveling was slower in this game, I’m already at level 65…

I feel the same way from time to time, but then I realize it really doesn’t matter for the most part. It isn’t like I’m running the risk of outleveling content or being unable to play with my friends. In this game, I just try to remind myself that level is just a number.

If anyone is particularly vulgar or inflammatory, there is an option when you report someone to pick offensive language as the reason. I’m not sure if they’re still doing this, but early on, there were a lot of reports of people getting suspended for 72 hours for not being respectful in chat.

As far as I know, the amount of mystic coins you get remains consistent. The amount of exp and money depends on the level of the character you complete it with.

Someone might want to confirm this one, but it seems to me that, sometimes in PvP if someone is trying to stomp me and I use Deception, the skill occasionally won’t teleport me very far away (like a foot or two to the left) and the initial stomp will still hit me.

Do you think events should increase in difficulty?

in Dynamic Events

Cantatus.4065

The way I see it, one of the worst things about the events almost always succeeding is it makes the world feel a lot less dynamic than Arenanet has designed it. Rather than seeing a whole bunch of different events, you usually just see the same ones repeatedly. I have never had to, for example, take back an area from the Centaurs, because the Centaurs never are able to actually win.

It would be extremely cool to zone into one of the zones and have an area need to be reclaimed, but the way things work now, that just doesn’t ever seem to happen.

Events where things like centaurs attack to retake their lands, need to get harder and harder with each sucessful defense until eventually they win and the event chain moves the other way, Right now the events seam locked in ultimate sucess mode.

Failure needs to not only be possible, it needs to be probable if people dont play well and work together.

I think this would be a good solution, and it’d also make things feel more dynamic. It would make sense that if you repel one attack, they’d regroup and come back stronger.
