Fat Lute Tavern [LUTE]- Sorrow’s Furnace
“There are other worlds than these.”
The game shouldn’t have to. Players don’t NEED a LFG tool to make groups. Why not ask guild members? Make friends? MMOs did perfectly fine before they implemented LFG tools for the games. I think that the implementation of said tools has made players a bit lazy, and expectant.
I have never once had a problem finding a group to do a dungeon run in all of the many years I have been playing MMOs.
If the concept of using a third party infuriates you, don’t use it. I, however, find it useful because it isn’t server specific.
As an afterthought, if you choose to NOT use any of the above stated methods of forming a group, I’d suggest using your /m method in Lion’s Arch. You’ll probably have better luck.
Cheers.
But thats not true.
Its been proven that the higher toughness the higher threat you have…. ever seen a tanky necro grab a champ or boss and it not budge from them? Same with a guard or warrior sporting high armor high toughness…. the game is setup to target them first on the threat table. So if its not meant to be like that why does it behave like that.
Then say the low toughness low armor glass cannons are just that…. DPS.
While they nerfed healing I cant really say anything about that as every class can sustain themselves for the most part.
What I was talking about was the fact that the trees are setup like a there was a trinity…. when there is not and I find that to be rather limiting in choices….. and this has been admitted by Anet.
Ok there are some flaws to your thought process.
The “hate” mechanic that is used here in GW2, does often prioritize the one with the most toughness, but quite as often it does not. Many things can generate “hate.”
Conditions, Boon removal, many of the forms of control (chill, cripple, etc.), and especially healing can all generate “hate.”
How often have you tried to pick up your fallen ally, and BAM the boss wants no one but you, and possibly anyone you’ve ever loved? It happens quite a bit from my point of view.
It is impossible to have a true Tank, since a Tank’s primary role is to obtain and manage threat. There is no threat in this game, only “hate” and it functions quite differently. It changes from mob to mob, and sometimes I find it to be a bit of a gamble.
In my eyes, a true GW2 “Tank” is a character that not only builds for survivability, but also functions as the Control role. Controlling where your enemies go, and what they do, and allowing the more damage-oriented players on your team melt them down.
As to your comment on the Trait lines, maybe you should play around with them a bit. You will discover that there are options in every tree that allow you to Control, Damage, or Support.
Any class, with any build, can do anything if played right. More importantly, play to your style. You’ll find that by gearing a character towards the way you want to play, you manage to perform any or all of these roles, and on your terms.
Happy hunting, and I hope you’ll realize that there is no “holy trinity” in GW2, just players who pigeon-hole themselves.
I’d say Ranger, just based on the fact that you’ll probably be using it more often that way.
Bearzu. You are phenomenal. As more than just an avid reader or as a GW2 player, but as a Sylvari lover (I have 8, one of each profession), I have to say you have impressed me thoroughly. I have only read the first two or so chapters, but it was amazing enough that I pried myself away from it- which was no easy task- to come here and post about how much I’m enjoying it! Please keep it coming!
To all of those out there who have popped in the thread but have yet to read the story, DO IT! There’s a link in the first post. It’s extremely well-written and keeps you hooked! You will not be disappointed.
Dwarves as they once were are gone forever, yes. They gave up the future of their race to invoke the Rite of the Great Dwarf, turning themselves to living stone and ensuring the fall of the Great Destroyer.
They are still to this day fighting deep under the surface of Tyria, stemming the flow of the Destroyer army, albeit they aren’t much more than immortal weapons.
So yes, THOSE Dwarves are still alive, and still fighting. Immortality does that.
However, the proud race of the dwarves has ended, the price paid to save Tyria from Primordus’ armies of destruction.
first, destiny’s edge DID fight a champion of Primordus.
I’d like you to cite this for me, because from what I can tell about the lore, they have done no such thing.
Destiny’s Edge did fight Kralkatorrik, this would be the fabled fight where Logan turned tail, and Snaff was tragically killed, thus ending the reign of Destiny’s Edge.
However, from all the lore referring to Primordus, we can piece together that after the Great Dwarf (by that I mean our stony ascended little buddies that this whole thread is about) defeated the Great Destroyer, it struck a great blow to Primordus, who is now deep underground- tunneling a kingdom and raising an army of destroyers.
So I doubt that DE faced a champion of Primordus, who’s biding his time underground, sending out waves of destroyers that our immortal dwarven buddies are all but reducing to nothing.
Thanks Dwarves, couldn’t do it without ya!
(Don’t listen to the OP little buddies, he didn’t realize you were still fighting for the freedom of all of Tyria)
“In 1078 AE, the first of the Elder Dragons to awaken, Primordus, began to stir. Its greatest champion, the Great Destroyer, and its destroyer army swarmed the Depths of Tyria, driving the asura to the surface and destroying multiple underground civilizations. The asura refugees united with the dwarves, as well as the norn and Ebon Vanguard, to strike at the heart of the destroyer army, defeating the Great Destroyer and delaying the awakening of Primordus until 1120 AE, but at the cost of the dwarven race, who underwent the Rite of the Great Dwarf in order to suppress the destroyer forces. To this day, the transformed dwarves fight them in the depths so that the surface may be spared, although in recent years small groups have made it to the surface world. "
Straight out of the GW2 Wiki.

The dwarves are still stone, down there duking it out with the Destroyers, stemming the tide of molten madness trying to claim the world.
Resolved. For now…
Here’s where I’m hoping for a reworked Dervish profession.
Do want.
Soooooo bad.
Dervishes are scythe-wielding holy warriors from the Nightfall expansion of Guild Wars, and they are awesome!
Anyway, I digress. I would assume that scythes would most likely be lumped into the “polearms” category of weaponry. Since the scythe was the primary weapon that Dervishes used in Nightfall, hopefully the introduction of polearms is a precursor to the inevitable rebirth of this awesome profession. We’ll see.
That aside, I’d say that I could see the Warrior using polearms, based on their core concept of being weapon masters. I’m not too sure about Rangers though, but POSSIBLY Guardians. It would indeed be cool on the Engineer, although I don’t feel that it falls into their particular archetype.
I DON’T foresee Necromancers, Memsers, Elementalists, or even Thieves being proficient with the polearms weapons.
However…if they brought a reworked Monk profession into the game, it’d probably be their bread-and-butter, so to speak.
-Confessions of a Sylvariaholic-
By that I mean that I absolutely ADORE the the way the Sylvari look. I have 8 character slots, and every one of them is a Sylvari, just one of each class.
Their character creation is so amazing. The choices of skin color, pattern color, glow color, etc. has made it so none of my 8 Sylvari look anything alike. I don’t feel that can be said about the other races in the game.
I know that you aren’t arguing along this particular route, I just felt like giving my 2 cents.
How do I check my hours played? Sorry for the noob question, I’m just curious.
It really takes the biscuit that; idiotic, no-hope, kitten-puppying salamanders, have to ruin things because of raspberry greed. Hack the JP? What a bunch of gooseberries! hope they all get caught and closed accounts.
I… I just love your terminology here. Just had to say so. Kitten great job sir!

So, if ye be interested in joinin’ up with a group of fun, laid back adventurers like we be, come on by the Lute! Pull up a stool and take a swig o’ grog! Put yer feet up, roll yerself a smoke, and maybe stick around a while!

Personally I see the concept of a Norn Santa a little frightening.
I feel like this red-clad behemoth of a man would much rather break into my house and TAKE all of my gifts (and anything not nailed down) and throw it all on to his sled, piled high with all of his stolen loot.
Then he would take off at a break-neck pace yelling “More plunder for me! Lock your doors tight tonight!”
“Psssh. This Orr, not Iraq. I’m sure I can make it to that waypoint without any trouble.”
On top of that though in all of the lore I’ve ever seen I’ve never seen anything that would validate the use of such heavy handed CC. Slowing and crippling sure, understandable, but all the other stuff? What kitten zombie throws axes and whips you forward? That entire thing is out of place.
If zombies did that we wouldn’t need busty naked women in shower scenes in horror movies. Nor would we have the oh no I fell in the woods scene. It’d be straight up zombies breaking legs and throwing dudes all over.
I REALLY need to see a zombie movie like that. Seriously.
On topic however, I have yet to actually take my main to Orr, mostly because I’m just shy of level 70, but also because I may have gone a straight-up glass cannon Ele build. >.<
After reading through this thread, I have a deep desire to run the opposite direction of those corpse-ridden shores. Yet, I’m enjoying this thread immensely and wanted to add my own thoughts.
And if I may say, OP you have expressed all of your opinions in a very well-spoken and easy to understand prose. I appreciate that. Now don’t let me keep you guys, I’d love to read more!
