Simulator Sickness: Is it Just Me?

It actually is reasonably common and I have 2 friends who have motion sickness issues with some games.

Have you tested to see if you have the same effect when playing console games on the tv?

I have a friend who finds she gets motion sickness with a lot of PC games but not console games. For example when playing Skyrim on steam she can only last 1 hour tops before she has to give it a rest. On the other hand when she plays Skyrim on a console she has no issues.

Her solution has been to hook her rig up to a tv when intending to play such games. For her it seems to be something to do with the proximity to the screen that causes the issue.

A different friend who also has motion sickness issues with some games has found she is set off by the camera, in particular first person or zoomed in camera gameplay. She has found that playing with the camera set to a wider angle and further back from the character allows her to play without issues. She believes her issue comes from how, when zoomed in, the environment seems to move to her rather than her character moving into the environment as it seems with the wider and further back camera angle.

Not sure if any of this will help you but it might give you some things to try out.

Good luck, I hope you find a work around that allows you to play all the great games you want to play.

Thanks Loren, I will keep them in mind. I’m currently in the process of testing out another guild but if it isn’t a good fit I will definitely check them out.

Heyas,

I’ve started playing GW2 after a break of about a year and I am looking for a guild. I was previously part of a small friendship-based guild which started in open beta but has since collapsed as people left for other games.

I am definitely not a hardcore player and I’m not after a hardcore guild. However I wouldn’t really define myself as a casual player either. I’ve done the whole hardcore stuff in the past and it just becomes too tiring. I guess I would call myself a social player. I like being able to log on, have a laugh with some awesome people, get some content done (I like pve and pvp [wvw/spvp]) and have a great time while doing it.

I am after a guild that realises real life comes first and that doesn’t have strict attendance requirements. My play time during part of the year when uni is not in session is usually pretty high but during uni usually drops to just weekends and depending on assessment that sometimes isn’t possible either. As a note I am currently on summer break from uni so I have plenty of time.

I am 100% up for using teamspeak.
I play mostly during late Aussie time (11pm-till late/early).
I would prefer a guild on SBI but I am not opposed to changing server if need be.
I would prefer a medium-size guild but depending on how other aspects fit with what I want from a guild I am happy to join a guild of any size.

TL;DR

I’m an Aussie time player looking for a fun, social guild. I have previous experience with MMOs and GW2. I’m currently on SBI. I can use Teamspeak. I can change servers if necessary.

Cheers!

Please feel free to post here or PM me in game with any replies and questions.

Thank you for taking the time out of your schedules to read this. Happy Gaming!

Small SBI guild looking for more

Well, I am a couple of my friends are looking for a guild to run dungeons like AC and such. They can do WvW, however I cannot since I had placed my characters on Yak’s Bend and so I have to guest in SBI to play with them. Also another benefit that we would bring is our own mumble server that the guild can use to coordinate and such.

We have our own TS3 server so we already have voice chat covered. I’m definitely interested though because it sounds like we’re both in the same situation where some nights we want to get stuff going and just don’t have quite enough numbers. A few of us really enjoy WvW and would definitely welcome more people wanting to go out there with us as well as doing dungeons.

Also being on a different server is not the end of the world. Once getting to know you all better and if you decided to stay with us we can definitely look at options to transfer you over to SBI if that were your wish.

I’ll add you to my friends list and see if I can get a hold of you in-game but is there some way to talk with you and your friends?

Cheers!

That was a typical tsarazi moment though, that’s the thing. He isn’t saying mag’s good. We’re kittening terrible, he’s saying he’s good and on mag, there’s a distinct difference and maybe you think one player makes the server but it doesn’t, tsarazi is also one of the better cummanders on magrubma. That whole fight wasn’t cherrypicked because not only 5 minutes earlier he was bragging about a 3v1 he’d just won too. Although as is always said, the offer to duel him is yours, message him his name is on the forum, beat him and call him bluff or duel him lose and accept he’s an pretty cool player.

Point on guy before calling bluff, watch the video again, he got 5 kills. Same warrior twice and one necro add, so that’s 3 EA and an add, EA’s group looked to be roughly 6-10 strong so he wiped about half your group because your guild couldn’t work together and half decided to PvD clap

Interesting post. Most interesting is that you think our group had 6-10 people. We had 4. One of which, the warrior, died twice. One of those two deaths was when he was alone, as far as [EA] members are concerned because our guard, mesmer and ranger were engaged in another fight elsewhere. The interesting thing about being in a group is that you can see the health bars of your group members. Only one [EA] player died in that fight, albeit twice. Not saying the mesmer isn’t skilled because he obviously is but the description he gave is not accurate.

There were multiple opponents in the fight so it wasn’t a solo fight even if he was not grouped. Furthermore he only got one kill while the [EA] guild group was there. All other kills were after the guild group had started to chase other players. The warrior after being rezzed decided to try again and got his butt kicked plain and simple but by then the guild group was elsewhere so he was acting on his own.

So we will use your number of 4 kills (assuming the 5 is a typo and that you mean as the rest of your post adds to 4), if it pleases you. He killed 1 [EA] member twice, only once while the group was present, and got 2 other kills on people not in [EA] all of which occured after the majority, 2 members, of [EA] had left chasing other enemies while the [EA] guard rezzed the warrior before joining the other members who had found a different fight.

Hardly deserves the description of soloing a guild group when only one member of a group of four died and considering the guild group wasn’t even present for most of the fight as they chased other enemies after the initial contact. Again, not arguing about the skill of the mesmer. He did get a decent number of kills. Just saying the description is innacurate as only one [EA] player died in that fight and the other 3 did not while only two of the four deaths were handed out to [EA] and both to the same player.

I got tired of killing CD bads over and over so I decided to solo guild groups from SBI. Here’s one of me killing most of the [EA] guild in one go. It was probably just a lucky battle though since I don’t actually have any skill and just save the wins instead of losses. Ignore the 25 stacks and outmanned buff please, I swear I got those from farming coyotes instead of SBI for the hour before.

I think you might need to watch your own video again. You can clearly see that the majority of that EA group that you “soloed” runs off towards the SE tower after another player. Granted you did managed to kill the warrior at the start and again after he/she was rezzed. However the guard from [EA] that was there, he/she too seems to run off. You also get another kill on some other person but he/she has a different guild tag to [EA] so you can hardly claim that as a kill against the [EA] guild.

So a kill on one player out of 4 (it appears) who then gets left behind and dies again while they chased a different, presumably better target. Then a kill on a tag. Skillful, but hardly soloing a whole guild group. Soloing them implies you killed them all and you only killed one of them, albeit twice.

WvW Titles/Rank/Skills & Multiple Characters

Just my 2c for what it is worth.

I’ve come from a game which had open map pvp like WvW, though definitely not to the same level of quality design as what ANet has implemented. I personally like the character specificity of these achievements and upgrades. In the game i used to play you had to earn your abilities and titles by playing on the class you wanted the upgrades and titles for. If you wanted them on a second character you went and played on that second character.

This meant that if you ran into a rank 12 you knew that they had put some dedication into their class. It didn’t necessarily mean they were better but you at least knew that they had spent a lot of time playing on that particular class. Similarly you know that the rank 2 in front on you has spent probably only a handful of hours on that character, alt or main.

I like to play WvW with friends. In fact, i don’t go out solo because it doesn’t interest me. I usually run around in a group of 2-4 people and if needed i am more than happy to play a different class to what i start the night on. Heck we’ve even rolled lvl 2’s just for the giggles of running around on lvl 2’s of the same race out there together. I’ve played multiple classes out there and will continue to do so.

Yet I still really like the idea that if i get to a high rank on my main it isn’t going to show that on my other characters and that each character gets their own stuff.

Though, for me the highlight of WvW is the gameplay itself. I enjoy going out there and killing other players. That at the core is what pvp is about. All the bells and whistles are nice but pvp should be played for fun, everything else is just gravy.

Extra passives to earn that give small but nice little benefits. Sweet! New titles. Cool! Some nice little extras to get as i play WvW the way it is intended – for the pure enjoyment of the pvp.

See you all on the battlefield!

Have fun!

Will Guild Missions need a levelled Guild

Just because Art of War currently only has PvP related upgrades and bonuses attributed to it does not make it the “PvP” line of guild upgrades. The Art of War is the art of killing stuff, at least at the core. It thus makes sense for guild missions such as guild bounties to be under the Art of War line of upgrades. If there was a diplomatic guild mission it would similarly make sense for it to be in the politics line and a trade-based mission to be in the economics line.

As for small guilds not having upgrades. Our guild has a total of 20 members. A load of which stopped logging in after about a month. We have 6-7 active members, members who play at least once a week. We have all the upgrades except politics tier 5. It is not hard, nor impossible for small guilds to get enough influence to get all the upgrades, you just have to approach your influence gain and expenditure with some thought. You just need to do stuff as a guild. Leveling alts? Level together. Do dungeons or pvp or WvW together. Influence quickly tallies up even with just 3 people in a group roaming in WvW or leveling. Only use what upgrades you really need. Be smart about using the influence you’ve earned. Make use of your influence bonuses, don’t waste them. Make sure you log in 20 characters, 5 per account, each day to get the points for just logging in.

I think this update will be a load of fun, even for small guilds.

edit Just wanted to add, the guild has not used gold to buy any influence. It was all gained through doing content.

Lost Shores Feedback Thread

I filled out the survey in regards to the Lost Shores event but found it to be a bit restrictive so I figured this was the best place to leave my comments due to the area it related to.

Overall I enjoyed the event. There was some level of frustration due to lag but experiences from other MMOs and living in australia has conditioned me to being used to such issues. I found all other aspects of the event to be fun and enjoyable. The bugged events were fixed in a timely manner (less than 24 hours) which is a nice change from some other MMOs which i played that had simple bugs from 4 years prior.

I don’t think having a free trial on the same weekend as one-off events was a great idea, at least not until the servers can be brought to the level where they can handle the current population in one area without lag. However I did think the idea of a friend trial was a good one, just the wrong weekend to do it.

One question on the survey I had issue with was about if I would refer people to this game based on the Lost Shores weekend. It only allowed a simple yes/no/maybe response. I would not refer people to this game based on that particular weekend. Content was awesome, execution not as great. However I would readily refer people to this game based on the regular content and realistically i think that is what they should be referred on. A new player is going to be starting out and less likely to be participating in such events – they’re just trying to work out the game.

I think next time – try to make sure the servers can handle it, put a trial on a couple or a few weeks prior but after the event has been announced to try to pull people in before the event and get them into the game a bit more, don’t put the trial on the same weekend as the event and most of all keep developing the awesome content for us.

Cheers!

Here’s to next time!

Haven’t tested it 100%, but Detha seems to bug if she dies during the trap event and you kill the breeder after she’s dead. The event is listed as complete and you get a new objective and can’t restart the trap event that really failed.

This. This exactly for the Detha bug. When this sequence of events happens, Detha will NOT trigger the event in the next room with the turrets. 100% reproducible.

Just tried Detha path. She didn’t die during the trap event or even come close. Bug still occurred so that is not the only cause.

Good to see ANet supporting all their players no matter where in the world or what timezone they live in. But then I expected no less with ANet’s history of support for GW1. As an Aussie, I thank you ANet.
